New Maintainers - WK of 4/10
Hi everyone! So sorry I haven't posted in several days. I just read back through the posts from last week's thread.
Betty, I think you look great. How tall are you? I like that halter top. Va, you asked about my scale. I have an old Sears balance beam scale that is still accurate after all these years. Hi to everyone else. Hope you had a great weekend. My wt was at 110.75 Sunday morning but afraid it might be higher on Monday. My new resolve from last week didn't last long but I have got to get back on track this week. I think my temp job will be ending soon and it will be much easier for me to do some protein days or a fast if I am at home. Vickie

Just a quick check-in as I am running late this morning. My wt is at 111 this morning. I must get back on track this week (I know I keep saying that every week). I have not been eating anything off plan but still too many carbs. Have a great Monday everyone!

Yesterday was so busy I never got here! LilDD woke in the middle of the night with a migraine. We gave her medicine and I decided not to wake her for church so only bigDD and I went. The 8:00am is tough to make but not crowded so it is my favorite. I scrubbed bathrooms and did yardwork all day with just a little basketball game with LilDD before dinner.
As for eating - bad, bad. I ate well on Saturday but then the scale was up on Sunday and something snapped in my head and I had a carb-fest. Back to the basics today for me. I will be back to my ‘happy’ weight by this coming weekend. We have no travel planned until June so I hope to have several uninterrupted months to get better and pre-maint/maintenance. |

Goodmorning all. Sorry I didn't get here yesterday either. We we were supposed to have a barbecue but my bgfs ex dh pulled a stunt so that he would get Ethan for the day. It seems he gets Ethan more then she does. She needs to fight harder but this man is evil. My dh is having a half day today and we are going to do the barbecue today. Yesterday i ended up woing a bit and then we hung out by the pool and jacuzzied with Ava. Her and her nana had a great time.
I was b@#$%^& about the preschool thing with Ava but found a solution. I found a book that teaches *SRAs distar* program to read. Two seperate people told me that thier children learned to read with this book. It is 30 minute sessions. You do exactly what the book says, and in 100 lessons that are spelled out and given to you exact. Your kids will read. this is perfect as it is a tool for me to teach. my dd loves to learn. I did print a kindergarten learning checklist and it was full of the simplest things..talking in 5 word sentances, using sissors. She can do everything on the list except bounce a ball. So i think I am working myself up for nothing. i will keep her in her activities for socialization and teach her at home till kindergarten. Perfect. my dh will start teaching her the computer as they use that too. Since I never learned to type and do this with two fingers...IE typos..dh can do that. Scale is 110 today. I know it is carb water and also pms water. I think if it wasn't for the pms my weight would actaully be lower this Monday as I did eat carbs but didn't go nuts. Tomrrow is back to the protein fast. Can't really do it today with people coming over. i wish I wasn't pmsings, as I feel alittle bloated and I am defiantly crabby. Va, your garden plans sound amazing. I meant to tell you that. As far as your wieght i am learning not to let myself get past a certain point. If it does it is fasting and whatever it takes. It seems all of us here still are on some sort of plan or excersising alot to keep wieght off. defiantely a plan for life. Yesterday on my carb up i didn't go too crazy...no breakfast, sanwich and chips for lunch and pie and icecream for dinner. I read from a celebrity trainer that for those of us that have sweet tooths to skip the dinner and have dessert for dinner. It has worked for me. A had a late lunch with her nana so she had an ice cream dinner. There is time to disapline and time to show your kids you are fun. Brenda, I love the photo of you and dh on harley. You guys look great!!!! So cool. On the protein fast if you follow it for a day or tow you will lose your appitie completely. i know first day is tought. I have done the fast twice and the second time was a snap. i am doing it again tomow. Vickie, good luck this week with paln. Hope to see you more! Hey betty! Did you run again yesterday? I think you look great in photo but if dh is urging you to eat..that is a pretty good sign. my dh stays out of it. he says he can't tell much differance if i am 105 to 110...over 110 it gets on my tummy and it can be seen, even if it is just a lb. Anyways when i get under 106 he notices and always says something to me about eating. i think dhs are good judges as men can miss alot, so if thier radar is on..it is something pretty obvious. Va had some good ideas for what to eat.....what is a sample eating day for you? I would love to see, if that isn't too nosy. You are under a healthy range but to me you look good..just like you have really thin lovely legs..which I will never in my life have btw...wahh! Ann, how are you? Rachel, are you going to come back? what a small group we ve..but we are still maintaining!!!!!! yay that is HUGE! I need you guys!

I did my workout, mostly cardio right now to get my weight back where it was. I have eaten very lightly today and will continue with that as long as it takes and then back to maintaining. Dinner was pork chops and green beans. I did not have much time so I just pan fried the pork in a little olive oil and made sure not to overdo it - wow, was that yummy! I wish I could have eaten more but stuck to just under 1/2 a chop. I did have 1/2 the bag of green beans! I just sautee in a little olive oil and throw in some garlic. The beans have carbs and the pork doesn't but right now the calories matter more -
Off to check on DDs homework - |

Hi all,, It is back in the 50s here,,not too warm , I really want summer to get here. Had to work yesterday, I actually did good, I stayed with my plan mostly, I did have some asparagus and a small spinach salad, but other then that it was eggs, turkey bacon, chicken, and salmon. so hopefully I can do it again today.
Janina, thanks for the comment on the pic,,DH is so proud of his custom cycle, He did the paint job himself. My son took the pics,he wants to be a photographer,, so he says at times,, when he is not thinking about joining the Marines like his old brother,, speaking of which , he just sent me an email telling me he is going to Thailand tomorrow, he is flying over for a month or so, he cant tell me what he will be doing of course, but he is excited to get out of Japan for a while. I hope he has a good trip. I ran 5 miles yesterday, today I think I will run 3 and then some weight lifting. I am going to stay protein today. turkey bacon and eggs for Breakfast,, chicken for lunch and tuna steaks for dinner.. wish me luck. Va mom,, we too go to the 8 am service, it is more comtemporary and my DH plays lead guitar in the praise and worship band, it is funny to see him up there, being a harley dude and all,, haha well I got to get moving,, hope you all have a great day,, Corgi, Iwish I could get back to 111, you are doing great,, I guess I will go and weigh and see where I am at,, yikes , Brenda Last edited by Brendajm : 04-12-2005 at 05:28 AM. |

Good morning to everyone. Weight back down a few pounds today. I am getting rid of the extra water that those carbs are holding onto and then I will need to work on the fat too. I would guess there will be at least 2 pounds of fat to burn off once I get through all the water - yuck! I am eating well. Having finally gotten to where I wanted and staying there for over a week reminds me that this is doable and I remember how happy I was to have a stable weight. I was beginning to introduce other foods and test maintenance and I really want to get back there. I have a dentist appt this afternoon so I might not get an early workout in but I hope to do some lifting later. I really don’t want to lose any of the muscle that I have built up. My incline walk was definitely effective yesterday - my hip flexers were achy (in a good way) last night.
Brenda - I missed my run this weekend. I usually save it for the gym when I can run with DDs. Maybe I will do one on the treadmill this week or if the weather stays nice, I could head outside - that would be nice but the pollen might get me! Betty - Have you been running? How are your fish? I was walking by the pond this weekend picking up branches from our weeping willows and noticed that some of my sunfish are out. I wanted to go feed them but the ducks were around too. If I try to feed the fish with the ducks around I end up feeding the ducks and the fish get nothing - the ducks were raised by the people who live across the pond and they are pretty tame and very greedy! Janina - Any pool weather? I heard from Nancy that there was a small earthquake in SD this morning - did you feel it? Drink your water - |

Lots of drama this am. Yes there was an earthqauke. Small.
I was out this am feeding my plants and watering. i was wearing a bathing suit with a white tank and shorts. i had this wierd lurking guy come and stand and watch me glaring. He got out of his car to do it. He parked his car in my neighbors space so i thought he could be working there. He was in a beat up old truck, since he parked in neighbors spot I thought he was waiting for them. i got so freaked I went in my garage and shut door. Avas little house was in way so door didn't go down. I saw the guy took off. So he was just there to watch me. Called police. They came and talked to me. They have two cars looking for him. It musted have sounded serious to them...scary. More later..Janina |

Hi all, Dh is home to check on me and put a lock on one of our gates. He is the best.
brenda, how is protein fast? You can do it. i restarted mine so we can do it together. I am doing it till Friday. Lets see if it is as easy with pms. VA, I was lurking on LLs and saw you are going to Hotel Del. It is so beautiful there. One of my favorite resturants in in Corando. it is called Pheoes..spelling..I need to recheck that. You need to eat there. There is also the greatest mexican resturaunt there known to man. If you need and referances I have many. I didn't get what Kim said about SD not being nice. It is one of the nicest cities in US. We have many laws protecting our land and it is far from being built up too much. It is a CITY which is not like country living but I think it is the greatest city anywhere. since the average home cost is 500 grand(and that is a small little house in a not so great area) it is so overpriced bc everyone wants to live here. You will have a great trip! OK dh is leaving..more indies later Janina |

Went off to the dentist and my teeth are doing well. Hamburgers and zucchin for dinner, if I go defrost them.
Janina - DH has a conference there and mentioned me coming out to meet him after. It is just a few weeks after our anniversary and we had such an awesome time in Bermuda last year that we thought we would try to make it an annual event. I have been to SD for work many times (to meet with SAIC and JPL) and just loved the weather and location. Nothing is definite on the trip yet but it sure would be nice! Betty - Are you out there? |

Mostly yummy dinner. I tried to lessen the cals on the zucchini so I sauteed in 1/2 olive oil and 1/2 light butter spread. I have used the spread on lc bread and it is great - spreadable right from the fridge and way less cals than butter. I checked the label and did not see any warnings but it must not be intended for cooking. The pan was only on medium but there was a funny taste to the zucchini and that is the only thing I did differently - bummer. I ate a bunch anyway!

Talked to the neighbors and found out they had no workers. The man in thier driveway staring and lurking at me was an official stalker/wierdo. I am really scared and upset about this as I had a "stalker" in hs that slit his wrists in our english class bc I wouldn't date him. Gory. he got sent away. When he got out he proceeded to stalk me and threaten to kill me. I am just freaked out.
anyways..my menu was B nothing L three eggs two bacon D sausage and halibut. I am down under 110 and pmsing after a carb up weekend. I uped for 4 days rather then three. It is working as a maitence tool. i can have my cake and eat it too. I just need to portien fast three to four days a week. where is betty and ann? hope everyone is well! Janina |

Wow Janina,, that is FREAKY. I too would be alittle weired out, especially after what you went through in HS. I am sure he is long gone, but I am sure you will be looking over your shoulder now as you will be thinking about it alot,, sorry to hear that you had to go through that. Hope the creep is caught, he might be doing it to others too and someone will get him. I did not stay true to my protein plan , I did good for breakfast and lunch, but for dinner I had a tom/mozz salad , tuna steak, and baked sweet potatoe fries, and then LC icecream topped with raspberries,, yikes.. I want to make a strawberry pie today, I am trying to resist the urge..I will use you as my inspiration....
Vamom,, you cannot use the light butter for cooking, it does have a low smoke point, I tried using it too and it just separates in the pan and then starts to get smoky.. Like you said,, it is great as a spread though,, I might try cooking with the light butter. maybe that will work. Sounds like you are eating good. I tend to over do it on veggies too. Ilove my veggies. Betty, are you running today? I am ,n ot sure how many miles,, I will just start and see h ow it goes,, hopefully it will be a good one. Well, i hope everyone else is doing good,, I am going to get myself moving, got lots of cleaning to do today and my running to get to, my son is getting a ride to school with a friend that just got their license so I am having a nervous breakdown//haha he gets his permit next month, I will be a really nervous person then,, talk to you all later, Brenda just wanted to edit to say I am at 116 this morning,, ![]() Last edited by Brendajm : 04-13-2005 at 05:53 AM. |

Janina, that is so scary about the stranger. I hope the police can find him.
My wt was back to 109 this morning after a protein day on Tuesday. I will continue with mostly protein for a few days. Tonight I will be going to dinner with friends then we will attend a lecture by Elie Wiesel at our local university. I plan to talk to my supervisor at work today to say this is the last week I will be working on a daily basis. The new person has been hired and she needs to learn by doing the work. For the future, I will be going in on an as-needed basis when they are really busy or to fill in for others on vacation. Have a great Wednesday everyone! Vickie |

Janina - That is so freaky. I wish I could lend you one of my big dogs to help you feel safer. Maybe keep some pepper spray or something in your gardening stuff or your garage just in case? I am interested to see if your carbup, protein fasting continues to work. I wonder if your body will get used to it. One of my sisters used to maintain her weight by eating very lightly during the week (but not really in a good way - no bfast, salad for lunch, lean cuisine for dinner) and then eat whatever on the weekends. My body (and my brain) does not seem to like it when I splurge and put on pounds but mine seem to be a few water AND a few fat. It sounds as if yours is almost all water.
Brenda - I see your on the Recipe forum. Doesn’t it bug you to see a new recipe and want to try it but it is just bad timing with your weight? That happens to me all the time. The no-bake key lime cheesecake I made for Easter was so great and I ate a small slice everyday after without trouble so I had hope to try some more baking but then I went away and put back on weight. I really want to try the pecan cake, strawberry pie and the choc mayo cake as well as a sf choc soufflé. I have never made a soufflé before and just ate my first last fall (non-lc) and it was wonderful. I have both a non-lc and lc recipe for one and was going to come up with my own but not until I am back under 130. We rarely have leftover veggies but I have leftover zucchini - now that I know it was the butter I might try to rinse them today and then use them in a quiche or something - I hate to waste them but the taste was funky. Vickie - That is great that protein works for you to. I did try a protein fast last summer but seemed to gain all back once I added back in veggies. Now, I tend to do more mega-veggies and moderate protein to get down when I jump up. This way, I don’t gain back when I add in extra protein. Everything about lc, especially when you are close to your goal weight, is so individual. Betty - We miss you - come tell us how you are! Scale is down a bit more today but I still have 2.5 pounds to get to where I was. I was reading some new womens fitness mags last night and they inspired me to get up and do some lifting. It was great! I got in a solid upper body session with some ab work - not using super heavy weights but enough to help keep the tone I have. I need to remember that I can lift at night, it is just cardio at night that keeps me up. Today will be some cardio to help with those pounds. Off to work - |

Yeah, I got in an 8 mile run,, I feel great, getting ready to hit the shower,,
Vamom,, yeah, I spend too much time on that board,, I made many of those cakes you are talking about, that is the problem, I want to try them all, I end of freezing alot of stuff as I am always making something else,, I am trying not to bake anything to day,, but i have some strawberries and want to make that pie.......the best recipe I have ever gotten off that board is the spongebob flax bread,, it is so good I have a slice everyday, really helps in getting in some extra fiber.. well got to go and get things done. |

Brenda - I love the flax bread too. Cin and pecan is my favorite. I tried banana, but it was just not as good. I have been wanting to bake some but it has lots of calories so I have resisted. That is one thing I will try as soon as I get below 130 and stay there for a few days.

Hi all,
Yes i am freaked out. I will defiantely not be gardening in the front yard with a tank top and shorts anymore, and never alone again...did I mention I live in a suburb and very safe area? before this happened a man doing new windows for our neighbor got out of his car and gave me his card and told me if I needed anything done in a learing way. Here I am so hard on my figure but it was getting alot of unwanted and ugly kind of attention. I will be extra cautious. I worry now for my dd. Brenda, congrats on getting back to 116. You are doing something right..or your body could be adjusting to the workouts. You could start slowly losing a bit more. It sounds like you are a night time eater like me. i have a suggestion. Eat everything you did yesterday but rotate the times. Eat all of your extra carbs and fat in the am and do only protein at night. How is your dh? any news from him recently? Vickie, good job on hitting under 110 again. i hope your schedule gets back to where it should be. It is nice you are so wanted! How are your dogs? Va, yes I agree how individual our bodies are at this time. It seems we can all lose on atkins alone at first but when you get the end it needs some mixing up or more excersise. Something. I am happy my body does so well with carbing up weekends. I eat alot and what i want although lately I have been taking in more calories on the weekend. Some people can successfully just excersise more and keep the weight off. That isn't me. I just bulk up under the fat. I love that you and dh are keeping up with yuor alone time. i can see you put effort into the relationship. B and i do too and we have one of the few healthy and happy marriages that I know about. If you guys come here i am sure it will be all couple time but if you guys had time for a cup of coffee me and B would meet you. I understand how on a romantic vacation it might not be the first thing on yuor list of things to do, but keep it in mind. I am 109 today. my rings are tight and I still haven't got tom. i usually drop 2 lbs. It will be interesting to see where I am after tom. I have been consistantly .50 lbs lighter each day that I start a new protein fast..this is after all of the carbs and water. If I can take off a solid .5 every week and this works to keep it off and eat weekends. i would be thrilled. I am getting my hair done today. B is driving me and taking A to visit some of our clients and do a bit of work while I am there. Our clients love seeing her. see you later Janina |

Ugh - ate too much. Chinese night tonight and I started well, even weighed my chicken and broccoli just to see how much I was eating but then I ate 2 dumplings and some of those crispy noodles. I did finally stop and my numbers are not crazy high but what was I thinking?! (Sure was yummy)

Hi again, well so far today I have ate pretty good.
Breakfast was flax bread, 3 slices of turkey bacon,, and a homemade LC cereal bar late lunch was 1/2 tuna steak, and very small tom/mozz salad and 1 tbsp peanuts Dinner was porkchop topped with mushrooms in an alfredo sauce(I know,, high calorie) with spaghetti squash. I also could not stand it and made the strawberry pie everyone talks about on the recipe forum. I only ate a bite of it to try it.. it is GOOD. I am going to try to go the rest of the night with out any more eating,, just lots of water. I think I should give Janinas suggestion some thought,, might help me out. My son is not in thailand yet, he is now supposed to leave Japan monday for thailand. I hope he goes or he will be so mad and dissapointed. chinese sounds so good,, I have not had that in a long time. I got to try the cinnamon and pecan version,, I have only ever made the banana,, I love it.. but could use a change,, howmuch cinnamon do you use?? are you using cinnamon syrup?? I dont have any of that flavor.. hope everyone has a good night, see ya tomorrow,, Brenda |

Brenda - Glad to hear that the strawberry pie is yummy. I hope to make one this weekend. Did you add the extra milk or cream? I was planning to. When I make the flax bread, I use vanilla davinci and 1 1/4 teaspoons of cin for 1/2 recipe (I think - I can't read my own notes!) plus pecans. If I get down a bit more by the weekend, I will do some flax bread and double check the cin amount - I was thinking of halving the amount of pecans to reduce the cals. I also use 1/2 flax meal and 1/4 WPI and 1/4 almond flour. I have never tried just flax but read about this mixture in the thread and really like it.
Janina - I love hearing all that you and B do together. DH and I are best friends and more in love now than when we married almost 16 years ago but I do consider us very lucky. We are definitely the happiest couple in either of our families and of most of our friends. I hope we do get to SD this fall. Maybe I will fly out a day early and we can shop! Meeting with DHs would be really funny because DH and I are the 'tall' couple (me, 5'9" and he, 6'4") and I believe both you and your DH are much shorter (no offense meant). I'll keep you posted about the trip. We might pose the question to the inlaws when they visit next month for lilDDs Bday. Off to bed and to chug some more water to rid my body of the Chinese food. P.S. Anyone else getting worried about Betty not posting? I am new to this group but it seemed as if she posted once a day. |

VA, if you came and could see us we would make time. since we own our own buisness, we make our own hours. Ava can stay with my mom or Caren and we could do something adult(shop, dine, whatever) we could also drive if yuo guys want to do something. I would love to meet you!!! Too funny....I just told B what you said and we are cracking up. No offence taken. We call ourselves the Littles as we have a little child and little dogs. I didn't know how to bring up getting together bc I was afraid you might not want to, but if we were near you we would for sure. We love doing most everything!
Day 2 of protein fast. B nothing L hamburger bacon and cheese(it was drive thru and I went for the cheese) D ribs(also a bit of sauce) This paln is easy for me. i think of eating protein and would rather not eat. i get nausous at thought. It does kill my appitite. Went into one of my clients to shop and the girls were freaking out at how"skinney" I am. They haven't seen me for a year. They said i was tiny before but super thin now. They are small women themselves. i was shocked at how it was noticeable to them. Got tom tonight. I can't tell true weight right now but I am under 110. Here is a question? do people guess your weight to be more or less then what it is. I get numbers said alot bc I am shorter and percieved as tiny. People say what are you 100 lbs. At 105 when I tell people I am 105 they are always shocked and think I weigh less. Anyone get the same or reversed? Have a great night. Also VA, I can tell that you and dh have such love. it is just the way you talk about him. I also notice you and I rerely ****** about our dhs. Trust me, I would too! lol! We just get along so great. i can tell you and your dh do too. i love hearing it can still be ike that after 16 years!!! |

Hi all,, I am holding at 116 this morning, I did ok eating yesterday,, will have to be extra strong today as I work my back to back 13 hours today and tomorrow.. you really tend to get the munchies in a restraraunt..
Vamom,, I did add 1 cup of hoods milk to the 1 1/2 cups of water,, I dont see how you could do it with out it as there is not much liquid to poour over the strawberries,, it is nice and creamy,, but still sets up really nice. My DH and I sound alot like you and yours. We have been married 16 years too, we get along so much better now, we seem to be in sync with each other and we are each others best friend. We pretty mcuh do everything together. He does go riding once in a while with guys but prefers it to be the two of us. I am going to try the flax with cinnamon this weekend. Janina, are you staying on your protein again today? you got some great will power. I am going to hang tough today,, I did not snack or eat anything after 7 last night, I will go for that again today. I will eats lots of chicken today at work or maybe a 4 ounce filet mignon for my dinner and chicken for lunch. People tend to think i weigh less than 116,, I am 5"6",, so maybe being a little taller makes people think I look skinnier. My sister who is about 5 ever has put on so much weight from all her beer drinking is trying to lose some weight before we go to the beach,, she is about 123,, which looks like alot on her small frame. I try to tell her what to cut out,,but she does not listen,, she is in a bad relationship with nowhere to go, so drinking and eating is all she does I guess.. I did see a post from Betty yesterday on another board, it might have been the main lobby or the excersise one,, dont remember,, but she seemed ok.. talk to you all later,, I got to go and lift some weights before I go to work,,Brenda |

Hello everyone! Our weather has been terrible the last couple of days--rain and in the 40s. Last night we had a freeze and this morning there is ice over everything. Looks like we will have nicer weather today though. My wt was at 109.75 this morning but I expected it to be higher after eating out last night. I only had a side salad and only ate half of it but whenever I eat out, I gain the next day. It must be the preservatives they use on the salad. I am back to eating protein today and plan to continue that for several days.
Janina, I just have the one dog, Molly, and a cat we "inherited" from a neighbor who passed away a few years ago. They are both incredibly spoiled. Molly has more toys I think than our kids ever had. You mentioned living in a safe neighborhood but it seems like nowhere is safe from perverts. Please be careful and especially for Ava.Va, I love Chinese food but have not had it for almost 2 yrs. I know when I do have it again, I will have to order from the menu--I just wouldn't trust myself with the buffets they offer here. Brenda, I can imagine how hard it must be to be around food all day. You are doing really well. I hope we hear from Rachel, Ann, and Betty. Lurkers are welcome to come on in too! Have a great day everyone! Vickie |

I had an early mtg at DDs school. They invited the 4th and 5th parents in to talk about appropriate language, games, books, etc. Of course, they ended up preaching to the choir because the ‘offenders’ parents never come to these things. The scale is down a tad today but I will take it after the Chinese noodles! I want to lift later but will be going to bigDDs opening Lacrosse game this afternoon so it might be another evening session. The guys are here mowing the lawn and it looks so great. It is really green and was getting so long that the little pup was having trouble running through parts of it. If it weren’t for pollen, spring would be really nice! Brenda - I will add the extra milk - I think it would be incredibly sweet without it because the 2 packages of mix call for 4 cups of liquid. You need to update your stats - you are almost back at your posted goal! Did you and DH get married fairly young? DH and I met in college and married when we were 23 - most of my family married much later or never at all. I feel so blessed that we are so close. We seem to have almost grown together over the years and have such similar values and views on child rearing and charity and everything. Given that we started out so young, I could easily see that we could have ended up as very different people because I really don’t think you are fully mature at 23. Janina - Most people think that I weigh less than I do. I am tall so I think that throws people off in guessing. You are great at staying with all protein. I did the protein fast last summer but didn’t like it. I think my key will be to keep steady and introduce a little treat here and a little treat there |
