MVM MONDAY
Hi guys,
Great footage of that flooding Linda. Nope Jersey City can't really flood by rivers getting full because although we are at the confluence of 3 rivers, the Hudson, the Passaic, and the Hackensack, we sit stride New York Harbor several miles wide and then the open Atlantic. We had one "flood" of sorts in the 30 years I've been in the area but that was a storm surge from the ocean on that huge 1993 Nor'reaster that crucified the whole coast (Storm of the Century I believe the Weather Channel calls it.) But that was a typical sorm surge In and water for 20 minutes and then back out to sea. It was weird to see water geysering up from our sotrm sewers. ![]() ![]() I tried to get a pic of Precious but my camera showed CHARGE BATTERIES (8 hours)...I should have done it after the Macy's Flower Show...maybe next pussi-visit. Mr Ironpants came down with a chest cold after spending Saturday frolicking from one theater to next in our deluge. He's not going to work today. If I catch it I'm going to MURDER him because there was no real need for him to go out in the rain. Well, maybe he'll learn now...or maybe I'll put my foot down next time. I always though Ogdensburg was New York too but I just checked the map and it looks to be on BOTH sides of the St. Lawrence. I'll ask Bob when he reawakens. (He was born in Massena NY...right on the Canadian border also.) OK, off to make coffee and apologize to the furball for my stern words while she was helping me type this. <I'm sure everybody knows all calicos and three colored cats are female?> OY, NINE days of this papal mourning may get to be even more aggravating than Terrri's "wake." Did you all notice his Burgundy BASS WEEJUNS? The ONLY shoe to choose if you're going to wear them for all eternity They can capitalize on the choice and start selling it in Papal Purple? It has a ring to it!Later.

Monday morning and it's still dark!
Linda, thanks for sharing the pictures. Really helps one visualize what flooding means to so many. I'd hate to have to clean up a flooded basement or anything else. Aren't you lucky to live on a hill? So Zip, what this means for Jersey City is that everything flows out? Now I need to get the map out and improve my geography skills. I've never been able to visualize that part of the country even though I have an aunt who lives there (FL for the winter). It's interesting to look at the politics concerning the election of the next pope. 60 minutes did a good job last night of educating the public on how this happens. I don't know Zip, Princess Di's went on forever!! Time got away from me here -- check in tonight and see what happening to the rest...... Barb

Hi Barb,
If you choose image Level 3 we are exactly where the orange line hits the left shore. The Hudson is a mile and a quarter wide here and the NJ-NY state line goes down the middle. That's Manhattan on the other end of the orange line (Holland Tunnel.) THe peninsula we are on is the tail end of the Palisades so the center of the city quickly rises to several hundred feet above sea level. Level 5 will show you where we are in regards New York Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. Hmmm, I can't make the [img] command work anymore either. I guess they disabled it to save bandwidth! Too bad, but I understand their point. Last edited by zip2play : 04-04-2005 at 07:50 AM. |

Hi Gang!
Coughing and spluttering this morning, dont know if I over extended on the weekend, feeling a bit run down today! I was suppossed to work today, cancelled that. At least I have no groups running for a while. The cause of the flood at DD's seems to be the big thaw last week, lots of sunshine and their sump pump was not big enough to handle it, so it flooded and tripped out the electrical, the furnace electrical tripped out so that's why they had no heat. Not sure what happened with the water supply but that was not working either. A plumber and electrician got all that going yesterday. So just one night without heat and water. (Maybe why I am run down today) DH went with Dsil to Home depot to rent a pump to get a head start on clearing the water, then when the insurance crew came they brought a bigger pump and that cleared most of it overnight. The insurance sent a crew over to clean up and sort the salvagable stuff. They have an expensive gym down there, $1000's dollars of equipment, elliptical, 2 work stations, a brand new treadmill, all soaked over the motors, so maybe not much hope there. (DH is always hopeful that he can fix them for us.) Her Christmas villiage of several trees, a lifesized Santa, woodsman and collectable dolls were floating too, cost over $20,000. The insurance adjustor yesterday seemed to think all would be covered. Another adjuster is coming tomorrow after the clean up is complete. They did carry the extra flood insurance, so at least that's not a worry and guess when the renewal date was? March 29th paid automatically from their bank account, or they would have been in deep doo doo! They were miles away in the England on that date. Feeling under the weather today, gotta rest and take my vitamins. HOpe to be back later. HUGS to ALL! SuSUN |

Morning, a big day for me as baseball starts. Yep, if this is a big day for me, I'm not a very exciting person. First baseball and then the NCAA basketball championship after that. Our local boy will be hooping it up..
Now Roger, you know you can't get a cold from getting wet. Maybe all the people and/or being run down will do it but not getting wet and cold. Sorry you feel that the Pope is getting too much primetime coverage. For what he did in the world, I would give him the respect of all that and more. Barb, we have spring break here this week but guess you are heading back to work, huh? Whip those kids to a pulp! SuSun, so sorry you are feeling puny. ![]() Hi to all...best not keep writing or I might say something I don't want.

Hey all,
We had a good time at the orchid show yesterday. The displays were really nice, but the sales were a bit on the blah side, we only picked up 3 plants. Lots of the same old same old that we see at most shows, but a few interesting things were there (or we'd have come home empty handed!). This year they were a vendor or 2 short from what they normally have. The tear down of our society's exhibit went well, no casualties from the show. Of the 8 plants we put in the display, we came home with 1 first, 1 second and 2 third place ribbons. There were sure some gorgeous plants being displayed there! Linda, OMG on the flooding! That's a LOT of water there. Sure glad you're on that hill and staying dry. I'll be watching for your envelope....will send box today on my way to work. Shawnee, looks like the Chuckster is safe for the minute. I don't reckon he wants to be cut in half again either LOL! Your box will be in the mail today too, so hopefully by Thursday you'll be unpacking! Sure hope everything travels well. Zip, hope Bob gets over the virus quickly and you don't catch it. No fun there....start chugging the OJ! Eat something with cinnamon in it too, or add some cinnamon to some tea, it's a natural anti-everythingbad. Loretta, wonderful on y'all getting that boat back in the water! Let the crappies start a-bitin'! Good idea on the needle threader thingies, that would be much easier. Julie, will email the flyer again... I'll try to put it into a different format. Hope your new season opens with a WIN! Barb, those bikers are unusual creatures at times. Have a couple friends/coworkers that ride, but not the wild variety that can be out there. Time for us all to start watching for that single headlight! Have we got a new member to our group? Hello to yesterday's final poster! Tell us about yourself! Well, all, off to get my butt in gear......this time change has me scrambling!

Hi Y'all
Loretta and SuSUN, hope you both make a turn-around quickly from the Bug! ![]() Also Mr. Ironpants too! Hard to avoid germs in a crowd. Zip, If I found a MALE Calico, I'd be able to take over Ophra's and the Donald's empires. ![]() LOL, the Chuckster thinks he can Type too...mostly he puts hair on/in the keyboard. Montana, have the waters started to recede yet? Your pics brought back memories of this area when the Mt blew, also 1996 it got ugly too. Hope everyone stays safe and practices sane driving. Fools here try to drive thru flooded areas. GINNY, MAJOR CONGRATS on those Winners! OH, Boy! I can take a great shower when your package arrives...THANKS... Bob said to tell ya, "Thanks" also...that I'm getting too ripe and skanky since I ran out of your shower gel his Damn redneck humor..........Julie, guess you've entered 7th heaven re the Baseball now, huh? Did ya make the Bread? I need to make some type of bread, there's none in the house. Have you been checking your Roses? I have Buds ...plus aphids and leafhoppers...grrrr. The potted tulips are really doing well, considering all the rain that's been beating on them. My DGrandDaughter #2 ( DSon's offspring) is getting married in a couple months...I'm not too thrilled, as she's only 19. She's the one who is the Hair person. Smart in some respects, but short on everyday common sense. At least she has a job, makes more in Tips than wages. (She's really cute, so that is a Tips-magnet)..and her DH- to- be is also employed , as a carpenter. Hopefully they remember that RENT money comes before FUN money. I'll be making the cake. Hey to Barb, Jacki, and Lurkers. Shawnee |

Took a ride around this afternoon and looked at some of the flood damage.Rivers are just now starting to recede. What a MESS!
Town Square Mall where Sam's Club, Wally World, and a whole bunch of other shops are had a parking lot full of water. If one stayed close to the bldgs, there were a few parking places otherwise one would have to SWIM to the shops. Roger, found this map of Ogdensburg and it looks like it is on the eastern bank of the St. Lawrence River. Bummer! http://maps.google.com/maps?oi=map&q=Ogdensburg,+NY Tell that Bob to get better soon and to please stay away from crowds. Too many bacterial and viral infections out there yet. Barb, I'm surprised that you have never been to the east coast. Come on out for a visit anytime. We have lots of room. Electing the Pope is quite a process but I heard that the candidate need be only a catholic male. How about this one "ZIP FOR POPE!!!" Wouldn't that be interesting?Susan, sorry you are under the weather. Sheesh! This winter has been bad for folks. How fortunate that your DD and family did have the extra flood ins. It's still a pain to deal with all of that water. Julie, Hey you are interested in what you are interested in, so what? If ya like baseball and basketball, enjoy it to the fullest!! LOL I have a talent for opening my big mouth too often so jump on in with me. I like being a grumpy ol broad like Sophia. Ginny, it's going to be interesting to see how long it takes to get here. Let me know when the envelope gets there, I just don't trust USPS. Shawnee, Unfortunately we can't do a thing about who those kids marry or when. Just have to hope for the best. One never knows. My great grandmother got married at 15 and had a long, happy marriage. Tell Chuckster to relax. Problem solved. Rog and I will cat hunt at the shelter. ![]() |

BACK OFF from the SOPHIA personality, Y'all....I claimed her FIRST !!
![]() Whew! The Chuckster will be relieved, he already has a split personality...I couldn't stand TWO of him! I read a book last year by Father Andrew Greeley, re the choosing of a Pope; remember how I complained to y'all about what a difficult read it was? As I recall, its a very involved business/political process. Yeah, I know some young marriages work....her maternal gramma was married at 16, going on 43 years now...and my own mom was married at 15, got in 55 years of marriage. Just seems so many modern young couples lean waaay too much on parents, financially. My DGBratKaci is thankfully a glowing exception, that kid budgets! LOL I made some bread type stuff, muffins actually. Still feels weird to place those rubbery muffin pans in an oven! Had some batter left over, so I nuked it, enough for 2 slices. Bob says its good, but then...he's afraid of me! ![]() ![]() Flax Cheese Muffins 350 for about 20 min (Hand -stirred....Yes, I actually took notes of measurements/ingredients as I comglomerated this mess) ![]() 1 ½ C flax meal 1 ½ C almond flour ½ C Gluten 1 tsp baking powder ½ tsp baking soda 1 Tbls onion flakes 1 Tbls basil flakes ½ tsp salt 1 C shredded cheese ¼ C olive oil ½ C yogurt 2 eggs ¼ - ½ C water Hand-stir all the Dry stuff together in lg bowl. In smaller bowl, Beat the eggs slightly, adding olive oil, water and yoggie. Add Wet to Dry, stir together…batter will be thick and lumpy. Let it sit a few min for the Gluten to develop. THANKS ZIP, that was a great visual on your area. Now, I understand what's happening. How about Linda, what's happening there - I haven't seen her posting. ???
I agree Julie that the Pope needs to have this week of TV time. It's a matter of history. It's the only time one really refreshes one's religious beliefs and history of that belief. So many religions look on him as being a leader. I am amazed at all of the different religious people from other religious backgrounds standing in line so long to view the body. The funeral is on Friday and then the task of choosing a successor. (maybe the new pope will "include" women) I'm sure you all remember the last viewing of the pope and with the heat of Rome the problems with the body (think "nose"). Shawnee, and.......Bob knows where his next meal is coming from! I'll have to try that recipe - looks good. So WHY is a calico female? Is this going to be one of those questions? That's ok, I can take it. Ok, ZIP for POPE !! Let's start a campaign -- ZIP IS POPE = ZIP I'' be in charge of posters. ( what a pun, I'm proud)Julie, you NEVER have to apoligize for having a passion "baseball" or whatever!! It's what keeps us young. My mom is 82 yrs "young" because she can tell you every stat and players' name in pro football! Shawnee, you are showing your age - rent money BEFORE fun money? SuSUN -- sounds like DD had good insurance to cover the losses - smart!! Now, should we ask you if you ever used any of that equipment while you were babysitting? Congrats Ginny on your 1st, 2nd, and 3rd placing at the show. Linda, I've never been east and am ready for a trip. I would love to see the coast and all of the historical sites we read about. I had a very good friend who lived in up-state NY and always wanted me to visit and now she remarried and lives in CA. That was a long time ago and I never realized that there was more to NY than just the city. Nice to know I'd have so many new friends to visit. What is a SOPHIA personality? Barb....... with time to spare with DH of in Reno !! (Better go un-lock the back door) |

Hey Barb...
so is this the week ya get friendly with the Mailman? ![]() Yeah, I'm from the Old School: If ya want Adult Privileges, ya gotta take the Adult Responsibilities along with them. I'm antiquated that way. ![]() The Sophia syndrome is from the ol broad on the Golden Girls sitcom. She speaks her mind, and takes no prisoners. Here's a nice site re Calicos http://www.mdarchives.state.md.us/ms.../html/cat.html Hmmmmm, I thought Julie was referring to the Pope, not Baseball , cause she feels deeply bout giving him respect Hi to all...best not keep writing or I might say something I don't want. If so, forgive us Julie ShawneeLast edited by shawneesioux : 04-04-2005 at 07:50 PM. |

Oh no, Barb is getting "friendly" with the mailman
Shuush, we won't tell. Yes the Pope does deserve this week of pomp and ceremony to honor him.He was an extremely well educated and devout man who deserves respect. One of the Plastic Surgeons I worked with was from Rome and went home to view the last pope. He had some stories. Shawnee, aww can I at least be a Sophia wanna be? She was my hero too. Dorothy was well on her way to being just like her mom. Loved her too and all of them. Oh those muffins look delicious!! Love those pans but I know how you feel. Oh my brother is on the phone from Montana.. back later. |

Hi Guys,
Sorry to give such a litany of DD's woes earlier! As I mentioned earlier I have a cough and a cold, so I took some lame decongestant/antihistimines thru out the day....best I have felt all day! Guess, I am up for the night! LOL! Barb, Sorry to confess, that I did not use their wonderful gym while babysitting. I was too busy folding laundry and sorting my own paperwork. Shawnee, Those muffins look good enough to eat! I really admire you not only do you bake 'em up, but take pics too and post them here! Not ready for that yet. I saw a pair of cardinals today, robins, blue jays, love doves too, lint out for all to take! Great news on the upcoming Wedding! Bet that cake is wonderful. Ginny, CONGRATS again for those winning ribbons! You sure are our Goddess...an Orchid Goddess! I still have to review your soaps and lotions, can't smell too well at the moment. Linda, Wow, on those river banks and flooding. Great pics so timely. I gotta figure this pic stuff out one day! Julie, Hope you enjoy the basket ball and the local boy hooping it up! Thanks for the kind wishes for my "puny" never heard that expression before! Roger, Sorry to hear Bob ironpants has come down with a cold...had to type that carefully! What is all this hype about Ogdensburgh...I just thought that was the closest place for me to buy those curry bargains that you told us about the other day. I think Massena might be closer not too sure. DH and I used to go to the "Crossroads" motel there for the odd weekend. They accepted Cdn at par, so it was a nice change of scenary and a bargain too. Loretta, Get well soon...notice we both took our DH's for their check ups and WE are the ones that get sick! wink Wavin to the rest! HUGS SuSUN |

Never heard of feeling 'puny', huh? It's really a Southern phrase, but we'll let the PNWers use it LOL! How's the cleanup going? Loretta, pretty day today, did you wash the new baby? Thanks, y'all, for the congrats to my 'chids. They did me proud! ![]() Off to lurk for a bit! |
