MVM Monday March 14
So lets get this started.
Appointment with a local cardiologist in the afternoon for a routine thingy, and then off to see my nephew in the hospital across the street from the doc's office. Poor kid is in a lot of pain from what his father and my mom tell me. Hope the little ******* learned a good lesson. OK, I'm off to bed. see you all tomorrow. |

Just popping in to say Hi. Not much planned for tomorrow. Coffee with my Church gals in the morning and of course get DGD (the one to the left here in my avatar) to her preschool. I could run a few errands, like dog food! Bo would be happy,
See ya all in the A.M.![]() |

Been having some computer problems, so that's why I haven't been here this weekend.
So, if I need to lose weight I should follow Zip's advice, mmmmmm wonder where I could find that MANY willing participants!! Later, Barb |

Back so soon --
Just read about your nephew Linda -- he is lucky to be alive!! He has movement in all limbs? Skiing, it seems, is becoming one of the most dangerous sports. How did it happen? Barb |

Good morning Linda, Julie, Barb and everybody.
Linda, Are you going to have a serum lipid panel run today? Sorry about your "great-nephew?" Anyhoo, after my experience with about 5 years of skiing, the one word of advice I would give anyone who is about to take up the sport: "DON'T!" And I have the shoulders to prove it! Barb, What a coincidence. I thought I'd open the board with a post titled DAY ONE of 2,000 calories/day. I got out my HUGE old pad and began the first entry since Dec. 23 that began with Weight: 212#. TODAY'S begins with Weight: 220#. Next line is 3 coffees (14 ounces each): (that's for 3 ounces of non-fat Half and Half..........60 THen, 2 Med HB eggs and 1/2 Tbsp Mayo..........200 1/2 English muffin &SB (that;s Smart Beat at 20 cal/Tbsp.)...80 I will keep to 2,000 for the average and try my best to go between 1900 and 2100 since I don't want any 1500 calorie days triggering the "starvation response." I tried the 2 glasses of wine a day for 28 days (for my HDL's) and slowly but surely I stayed at 2 wines a day but unfortunately it became 2 LITERS a day. Two liters of wine is 1600 calories EXTRA. I reaped what I sowed. Now all I gotta do is find a technique to get my HDL'S up...it's HARD for me. If you want to join me hop aboard (but maybe with 1400 calories or so...you know what works for you.) I'm going to take it to 205# this time. I THINK that will be my PERFECT weight and allow me to hang onto some muscularity. I will make sure at least 100 grams of protein a day (400 calories) so I never go into nitrogen deficit. Writing everything SUCKS after about 2 months, but it's the only way that gives me control so tabulate I WILL.

Mornin' all,
After a pretty weekend we're back to cold again, but it looks like only today and then warming up. These last few days of 'winter' aren't letting go willingly but they eventually WILL!Shawnee, like your variety of getting the nutcase puppeteers and their sick instigator outta the way. Sure hope my TAX DOLLARS don't go to such drivel, I don't care who calls it art! Let me know if you need a hand sharpening the knives.......... Linda, OMG on your nephew! Back when I was a kid, one of the other kids in the neighborhood broke his leg doing a 'helicopter' off a ski jump. He spent the rest of the winter on crutches (no mean feat in a MN winter!) so I don't think he did that one again. Hope he mends well! We only have the 1 computer too, and we do pretty good sharing it. Loretta, did y'all take time this pretty weekend to work on the boat? We were warm enough here to do some porch sittin'.... sure felt good, I almost fell asleep on the porchswing! Zip, soon will be the big orchid show in NYC, are you going? Good thing you quit that kind of partying when you did.... nowadays that would be like playing russian roulette without many empty chambers. Hey, if ya wanna lose weight, there's this really good way to do it....... ever tried LC? ![]() Julie, bet Bo looked and felt great after the bath! Ours get so mad at us, but they get over it. NO WAY could I blowdry them all I was reading in my essential oils desk reference that there are some things that could help RLS...... if you wanna know more, email me and I'll type it out for ya.Barb, well, with all the colds and flus going around, the 'puter caught something? Sure hope it's fixed/feeling better. No fun to be without the 'net! Time to start another week, actually my LAST week of being a 30-something! I'm sure not worried about turning 40, I think I'm just surprised I've been around that long as I don't feel like I've been here for 40 years! Off to lurk,

Good morning everyone.
My thoughts on Cholesterol and then I'll shut the hell up. There is not one valid study proving conclusively that cholesterol causes heart disease. Not one. It's all speculation and propaganda fed to us by the pharmaceutical companies. They want everyone on meds of some kind. 50%, yes 50% of people who have heart attacks have so called "normal" or low cholesterol. Studies for the past 10 years indicate, notice I didn't say prove, inflammatory process is to blame for heart disease. ...Get your C - Reactive Protein levels checked. Ginny, Only one more week, eh? Heck 40 isn't so bad when you are looking at it from over the 60 year mark. Roger, no blood lipid panel today. I had it done last June. I do want a CRP done though. Skiing is very dangerous. White Face Mountain "snow snakes" got me back in the 80's. Left knee totally destroyed. Barb, the nitwit tried a back flip off a jump. Last night he was in considerable pain so I hope this teaches him a valuable lesson. So what's wrong with your computer? Julie, Do you have to take your DGD to day care every day? Waving to Shawnee, Loretta ,Susan, Jackie and lurkers. |

Ginny,
Thank You for the heads up on the NY Orchid Show...April, usually? I'll give a search. I DON'T want to miss it! On the LC, I've got 4 words: "Tried it; never again." Sugar free, yes by all means but I need my pasta, rice and potatoes. Atkins heart condition and my stent scared the bejezuz out of me and I'd NEVER dare eat a high fat diet again...even if it DOES take the weight off better. edit: Looks like the show is 4/12-4/17...here't the sponsor site, maybe you'll find it interesting: http://www.gnyos.org/ Julie, You are right, EVERYBODY'S HDL goes up with hard exercise....except, you guessed it....MINE !Well I walked the Mall back and forth this morning just to get out of the house...BORING! Shawnee, (You snuck in between edits! )You beat ShopRite on the seedless grapes by eleven cents ($.99.) edit: Linda, just saw your sneak in too....My last CRP was, hold your hat: 0.1. So BELIEVE ME you can have serious clogging with virtually NO inflammation. My homocysteine is also always stellar. You might find some interesting studies in this analysis: http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/445150 I think it's a wonderful summary of where lipid control stands today based on good studies. Good luck with the GP today. Nice day all. Last edited by zip2play : 03-14-2005 at 10:22 AM. |

Linda, hoping nephew is doing better today.
I think I'm do for a physical in May and will try and get that C-RP done. Do you think a HMO will do it? We'll see. Linda, yes and no on DGD. She goes Monday-Thursday. We can either pick her up or take her and we choose to take her. Her other grandma does the picking up. It's only for a couple more months. With either of us to do it it's not bad. If I can't, Chuck can. No let up on the sunshine. Oh darn! [size=1]kidding...) 60° here but Shawnee, I bet it'll be warmer where you are. Jeez Ginny, don't remind us how old WE are around here. I emailed ya. Bo hates his bath but loves the hair dryer. Go figure. Off to my coffe so have a good day!

Just checking in before we hit the road for Dr's appt for DH. Nothing wrong, just a check up.
Talking about statins Linda, my sister was placed on Lipitor 10 mg for about 2 months now. Her last blood work showed nice numbers for cholesterol but her liver enzyemes sure went up from her last testing. Not a lot but they did show an increase. So many people now are taking the statins. I will be anxious to get my numbers checked soon. I will see the doc this week for my checkup. Hope I can talk him into the CRP test also. Ginny I don't think our weekend here was as nice as the one you describe. IT was windy and chilly. DH won't do anything much on a Sunday. He seems to mess up if he works on a Sunday (he feels that way) We watched a lot of the basketball games. Enjoy your last week of the 30s. 40s not so bad. I am inching toward 65 being a REAL senior citizen. IT is just a number. Zip another thing you can take to raise your HDL is psyllium fiber daily. That will do it. I have been taking it for years and have always had a high HDL, over 100 usually. You could post on the menu thread if that would keep you accountable. I agree with you that high fat is not for everyone. I do better lowering my fats some. Hope you don't have a serious computer problem, Barb. For me that could even make me a little ill until I got it fixed. I just like my pc and more or less depend on it. Shawnee hope you find some deal at the grocery store. You could start growing those radishes and green onions in the garden if you are willing to share with some critters. Hey to Julie and Jackie. Later folks, Loretta |

Thank you Loretta,
Coincidentally I started psyllium TODAY (for other reasons ). I didn't know it raised HDL. Oh I HOPE you're right.I'm gonna dig for that info. I've often heard that soluble filer was great for serum lipids but I didn't know specifically for HDL's. I should check Bob's last couple tests...he's taken psyllium every day for 10 years (after they took out his sigmoid! )Thanks again! Ahhh nuts, Doesn't look quite so good for fiber/HDL, Loretta: http://www.ajcn.org/cgi/content/abstract/59/5/1050 Maybe that pantothenic acid? Are you still taking it? 'Nuff Internet...time for the stationary bike and treadmill...and STEAM! ![]() Bye, til tomorrow (I PROMISE!) Last edited by zip2play : 03-14-2005 at 10:41 AM. |

Hello all...I thought I'd better check in.
Yesterday my mother in law passed away. Her service will be thursday or friday. She was a very sweet woman but suffering from altzhiemers for the last few years. She went peacefully in hospice. Hope you are all doing well and I'll check in later after I've had time to read all your posts. |

My heart goes out to you and your DH Jackie. Fortunately she went peacefully.Roger, I don't think my diet is high fat at all. It's more moderate and some times low. We use only natural fats...butter and olive oil and avoid hydrogenated fats and processed products like the plague. IMHO Ifeel that what we have done to our bodies over our life time is what get us in the end. Not a healthy eating plan for the past several years. Glad your CRP and homocysteine were good. I'm sure mine aren't with all of this arthritis and red, swollen fingers. ![]() Humm are you taking omega3 fish oil? That helps raise HDL. (statins not only lower LDL but they lower HDL too...running and ducking )Loretta, it's difficult to get these doctors to order the CRP test unless they are up on the latest. Most aren't unfortunately. Julie, it's good that both of you grandmas share the responsibility of transporting the kiddies around. Sometimes when we are retired, our kids tend to take advantage of us, if we let them. My nephew has to have another scan tomorrow and may have to have surgery to tighten and repair the ligament holding the vertebrae to keep the bone from separating . Keep your fingers crossed. |
