MVM's Sat. March 12

Just thought I would get us going for our Sat.

Not much planned except some snow shoveling around here. Darn it all!! This has to end soon, doesn't it?

Got some Chicken thawing for tomorrow's din din but don't quite know what to do with it yet. Maybe something like a oven fried thingy using carbquick and spices???? Hummmm. Will sleep on that.

More tomorrow.
Night all. Back to the news and my book.

Hi Linda,

So what is Java? And where do I look for it to see if I have it? If I do, should I get rid of it? I haven't opened one single attachment if thats the way Roger got his viruses. Scarey!

Clainex? Not sure if I've tried that or not. I've tried many of the nasal sprays by prescription but they take a couple of weeks to kick in.

Hopefull the weight will level out soon Linda. For pete's sake, don't go back to smoking. With your asthma, you are doing the right thing.

I'm fixing chicken parmasan Sunday for my sons 39th birthday. How about that for din din tomorrow..

Going up to our friends house tomorrow. About an 1 1/2 hours away. Bo's best friend! Going to go to lunch and pick up some posters for our Bichon Bash next summer. Getting an early start this year. Probably have lunch, gab a bit and come home in time for church at 5:00.

Had the 2 darlings for about 3 hours tonight. Boy, they sure can wear a Grandma and Papa out. Glad to see them come pick them up. Sounds kind of bad but I'm just getting too old for this. Was different when I was 42!!

Have a good weekend...

Good morning, Linda and Julie,

First order of business was to open the SUN JAVA and get a big update and hope that fixes any security vulnerability. Basically, from the little I know, you need a JAVA engine to allow any interactivity.
Julie, like the game, ELF, for example or any stuff that moves or updates itself...like a weather map loop.
Windows installs a version called VM (Virtual Machine) Java which it leases from SUN, but computer "gurus" like my friend pooh-pooh anything by Microsoft. Of course once you turn your back on an MS component, Windows tells you to "go frack yourself." My guess is you all have the Microsoft VM Java enabled instead.
To check hit TOOLS>>INTERNET OPTIONS>>ADVANCED and scroll down the long chart for the Microsoft VM and see what you have activated. If you have the SUN version, you'll have a line that says JAVA (SUN) with a checkmark in it's box. Otherwise you'll have one or two of the VM box checked.

Another check for the SUN version is to go to START>>CONTROL PANEL...with SUN you'll have an icon called "JAVA Plug-in" and it's a cute steaming cup of coffee. If you don't have icons set click VIEW (on top) and choose LARGE ICONS.

(Gee, that's the FIRST time I ever "exceeded the 1400 word limit."...Naah, that's GOTTA be wrong???)

So basically an infection can visit your computer just by going to a site with an infection on it...no need "to open a mail atttachment."

What AMAZED me is that NORTON could FIND it easily enough, but not delete it!????(Ran the anti-virus 4 times.)
They are gone now I THINK!

While you're in the CONTROL PANEL look it over and open any that you're curious about to see what's there...it's the WHOLE SHEBANG and very interesting. (Don't change any settings unless you are SURE.)

Snow has stopped at dawn instead of Noon as it's supposed to. GOOD because we have theater tickets for 3 PM. Probably SUSHI afterwards.

Linda,
We haven't had much TOTAL snow, maybe 2 feet max this winter but oh, so OFTEN! I'm sick of it too, especially as soon as we have an inch of snow we get 2 inches of salt on EVERYTHING...all the dogs here wear BOOTIES...I;m sure many an owner grumbles before the 11PM "walkies."

(I'll shut up now.)

TO ALL

Zip is on the wagon til Memorial Day...my two drinks of wine the last month stayed at 2 drinks...2 LITERS

Hey to all

Not much going on here in Ky. A beautiful sunny day though. I feel like I need to be doing something but will take a rest day today and tomorrow. I gave blood yesterday and ended up about passing out last evening. Dh got me to the bed. Have not had that happen before. I think my blood pressure bottomed out. What a sinking feeling. I feel much better today.

Linda you could stand a few more pounds. You metabolism is probably slowing down even though you are eating the same. How do you feel otherwise?

Zip you sure know your way in and around that pc of yours. My son took my old one and did a reformat and then installed Windox XP on it. I wonder how that will all work out? He works for Toyota in the computer end of things. THere big project now is getting PDAs for coordinate some thing?

Shawnee LOL on Bob using that recylced whiskey on the rose bushes. I do not use a purse anymore, but I do see that happening where those gals leave them in the cart. I use a wallet size leather "purse" that hangs around my neck. I wear it under my coat or shirt. I have a seperate little purse I keep change in, in my car. I don't care for the looks of a "fanny pack".
I sure could use some of your energy. How about a picture of your pond?

Susun I used a leash on my kids. Not sure how it would go over today though. I do see some handcuff type gizmos being used. I lost a kid once at a state fair and it was "panicsville" for me. I'd go for safety and keep the kid reighned in.

Julie walk and read? I sometimes ride my stationary bike and read. Guess you have it under control after all that time practicing. It does get harder with those little ones after getting older, I think we get out of the routine and forget that kids that age hardly every stop.

Hi to the rest of our bunch.

Loretta

Roger, under JAVA, the only thing I have marked it something called JIT. What the hell is that? Jeez, so dumb about this computer stuff. I once had a virus Norton said it couldn't repair but everything was ok so what does that mean?

Going out of town today and will back later this afternoon. Have a good day everybody.

EDITED Loretta, hi there, we were posting at the same time.

Hello Magnificient Maintainers!

I am back home sleeping in my own bed agin!

I enjoy helping DD out while her DH travels. He was on a US road trip this week. He will be settled for a while now, so I can get back to normal. He had a busy two weeks.

Glad to hear your comments re the harness reins thing. YOU guys are the "Voices of Wisdom" after all. I think DD will buy some and try them out within the next couple of months. The "fencing in" will come first...hee! hee!

Julie,
Yes, I am so glad that I can be there for her. I remember back...I had no help(my mother was deceased and DH's mom was quite ill) It was tough going for quite a few years. So, I put it down to over compensating for the missed relationship with my Mom.
Great tip on the Lint for composting.
Enjoy the lounging in those pj's...there's nothing like it!
Hope you are feeling better soon, so you dont need to agrivate that RLS any longer.

Shawnee,
LOVE the tip on the lint for the birds, what a soft nest that would make. I recycle most stuff with the critters first. That was a lovely reminder.
Urea, Nitrogen is all good stuff for the green critters! Does Bob plan to bottle his "Whisky?" LOL!

Roger,
Had to re-read your post:- Quote
Shawnee...If I aim STRAIGHT at Phonecia she WINKS at me if she's feeling "amicable"! It is AMAZING how quickly carp fill the size of any enclosure...evolution is WONDERFUL.
SHEEEESH!!!!! ROLMAO
I am sure you didn't mean to say that!
I think we are having Indian take out tonight as we are babysitting agin for DD and her DH while they go for dinner with a couple of friends.

Linda,
Fabulous going on the no smoking, you will soon be through the worst. It sure is tough and hard work in the early days. The weight gain will re-adjust in a couple of weeks. I have clients that gain 30lbs by eating all the wrong foods but at least they kick the habit, then lose the weight later. You have to gain at least 125lbs to equal the same health risk as smoking a pack a day. I know you smoked less. YOU are doing great! Keep up the good work! Keep those hands busy and get the oral satisfaction by chewing crunchy foods and lots of water. Hand to mouth movement is 250x a day for a pack a day, so replacing this with something healthy is key. Just my two cents!
Enjoy the chicken what ever you decide to do with it.

Loretta,
Oh what a wonderful day you have been blessed with!
I really must move South, just have to work on the pensions, so at least we will have an income later on. I see Pres. Bush has passed a bill and given an extension to Nurses that are willing to work past 65 and also to retrain others as the nursing shortage looms closer. Ummm, what can I do in my old age eh?
Yikes, on the passing out. Did you have your ferritin levels checked too? It does sound like the BP though.

Ginny,
Hope all the FurKIDS are behavin today!
How was the visit to the Lawn and Garden show?
DD is hot to get a deck put in around their hot tub. DH of course keeps saying that he can do it. She of course wants it done before next winter!
Oliver's breath has been worse than usual. Do you know what that means. I have given him fresh water daily and tried to get him to take the parsley breath biscuits. Hope all is well with his gut.

Barb,
Enjoy those mountains! DSonIL just returned home yesterday from Denver, what a lovely airport with those white peaks!

Wavin to Jacki and All!

Afternoon by now!!

Had a looooong post and lost it and then had to go to a memorial service and now we have to go back to the dinner. So, I gave up.

SuSUN, the Denver airport is very nice inside and out and I LOVE those trains running under ground. I vote for leash also. Kids are grabbed so fast and also get lost quickly. You might as well have peace of mind and peach for us who don't like to be run over by kids running the aisles. I have stopped some and asked where their mother or father were!!

Gee, Loretta, passing out? My mother would ask if you were eating enough!! I think that food must solve all problems (also brings most of them on). What is your BP?

Julie, I take Clarinex and love it! I usually only take it in the Spring and Fall and at night. In the morning I can wake with a clear head.

Linda, you are doing GREAT!! You could probably stand to gain a few (just in case a big wind comes up and blows you away). I've been doing Beer Can chicken now for most Sunday dinners when I'm home. It's easy, cheep, and moist!

Zip, I love SUSHI!! I had it for the first time last year and it was a neat experience. If I had to put booties on a dog I would get rid of the dog - quickly!!

Shawnee, you will appreciate having those bushes or whatever away from the house. We drove through fire areas in the last two years and it's awful. Even if they can save the house, it's black, black soot all over. All of those wonderful trees will be gone.

Ginny, Jackie, doing well?

Ended up with a cat scratch on the eye lid Thursday night and by Friday am the whole eyelid was swollen. So, spent time at the clinic yesterday updating the tetanus shot and also getting antib. Then I was applying moist heat compresses. It's almost normal today and yes the cat had been vacc.. I tried to separate the two of them and got caught in the crosspaw action.

Well, need to head back out the door to the dinner!!

Later, Barb

Even Jed Bush is on the band wagon!

Any thoughts, suggestions welcome!

Hi Y'all

Another nice day here, but a tad windy at times.

Jacki is getting her house spray-painted, hope the gusts aren't causing problems....
(looks so clean and fresh, Jacki !)

I am taking the day OFF from outside activity...being a Bum feels good!

Barb, memory is dim, but I have a vague recall of many problems re the Denver Airport construction...Do remember the Natives were called in to do Clensing and Blessing Ceremonies.

Yikes with that eye! Sure hope its healing well! Had an eye scratched in the Second Grade; had to wear an eye patch to school for a week...mortification
At the Grocery this AM, there were youngsters running loose and wild. Gggggggggrrrrrrrrrrr.....wolves do a better job of raising their young.

Montana, Snow Shoveling sounds like a lot of work. I've probably shoveled several mountains of soil...

OK, eat lots of hot peppers tp get revved up...then follow this suggestion that nobimbo posted:

Get Sexual for Ultimate Weight Loss

Poor Loretta, sounds like you had a scare with that BP. Will ya need to juggle your meds? Hope its stable soon. How's your glucose, BTW? I eat something every few hours to escape those woozies.

SuSUN, in the last few years, our local newspaper Ads have been begging for Nurses. Relatives in the profession in various States say the same.
Glad to see Nurses are finally getting the respect and pay they deserve.

Are you seriously considering making THE BIG JUMP? I see your (emotional) biggest drawback as leaving your DD and Ella...sure relate to your reasons behind your closeness with DD and helping her. Some of us do try to give what we didn't get.

OH ! Meant to say, Pups can have ICK breath from a sundry of reasons...like people do! They get gingavitis, cavities, etc...as well as intestinal thingys.

Ginny, where are you today? Is this the Bloom Season in the GH?

Zip, Congrats on your Sobriety

Julie, hope your time with Friend is FUN.

Be back later, Duty calls.

Shawnee,
Thanks for the info on Oliver's bad breath! Feel more relieved that it could be dental related. Hate gut problems with dogs! Scares the chit out of me!

Forgot to tell ya I have convinced DD to relocate too. Her DH can work from any location...! Her brother is so excited at having his family close by. He gets lonely down there, even though he has lots of friends, its not the same.

DH is still concerned that we can only do the winter months. I think if I worked down there things might work out better.
Not sure if "I will be jumping from the frying pan into the fire?"
The grass is always greener, etc...

We are off to babysit again.

Gorgeous weather up here today!

Running in real quick. Sorry I didn't get back sooner but we found out my nephew, Larry's son, had a ski accident last night and fractured C1 vertebrae
Fortunately it was a spiral fx. and didn't compress. If that had happened we would be making funeral arrangements right not. Poor Larry and Debbie are really angry and upset that he did something so stupid. Took a jump and tried a flip. Damned stupid kids Hopefully he learned a difficult and very painful lesson.
He is in considerable pain, immobilized in a neck brace but is out of the neuro ICU and in a regular room. Kid has several bio and chemical exams next week but won't be able to drive. Hopefully arrangements can be made. Keep your fingers crossed that this won't kick him off the Deans list.

Roger, Not sure how much snow we got but it was considerable. LOL there is nothing but salt "dust" all over the place on our roads and sidewalks in the city.

We have had SP2 since Jan and it's working just fine.

Hope you enjoyed The theater and Sushi.

Julie, Hope Bo enjoyed the visit with his "best friend."

Clarinex is the newest form of Claritin and works well for me. If you can't take that, just use the steroid nasal spray. At least in a few weeks you will have some relief.

Susan, so go for it!! If you, your DH and your DD and her DH want to relocate, DO IT! You could always move back if you don't like it.
Your nursing degree is valuable and can be used any place and if your son in law can work from any location, why not give it a try?

Loretta, you deserve a couple of days of rest after having a bad experience from the blood donation. Hope you just relax and recover.

Thanks for asking, I am feeling really MEAN and B*tchy. LOL Wine helps

Shawnee, That should keep my mind off smoking, eh? Humm, every time I get the urge to smoke I could....never mind.

Glad you are taking the day off from outside work. You need it.
BUT consider yourself lucky to be shoveling dirt rather than snow.

Good catch. Dogs and cats need regular dental checks and cleaning.

OMG Barb, Glad you got to the doctor. Cat scratches and bites are nasty. One almost never avoids a bad infection.

Take care and I hope you enjoyed dinner out.

Jackie, we want pictures of the new paint job, PLEASE.

Ginny, what 's up with you this weekend? Busy working with the Chids?

Gotta catch up a bit then give Gerard a turn on this machine.

Hey all!

Usual busies here, but today's busy was pretty much play. It was a gorgeous 60+ day, sun shining, breezy. We went to an auction this morning that looked good from the ad, but all the good stuff promised was not in attendance. All the 'play pretties' were chipped, cracked or junk. The house was a 2BR 1BA that would be a fixer-upper.......nothing a match wouldn't fix right up! Anyways, we turned in our number and left before the auction even started! It's just the beginning of the heavy auction season, and we always keep our eyes peeled for a good'un We then poked around a little town called Bell Buckle, lots of antique/junktique stores, really a nice little town. No industry, just the little shops. Most people who live there work elsewhere, so it's really a quiet little place. Back to the hacienda for lunch, then rode around a bit looking for yard sales. Not much going on this weekend tho. Since yesterday was cold, I bet that scared most of the people from having sales. Looking forward to consistant pretty weather!

The gh just feels like it's waiting to explode into growth. There's lots blooming, more in spike. We're a little behind this year (had lotza cloudy weather) but there's an orchid show the end of April that we'll exhibit at, so maybe the delay will be beneficial? First show we'll go to is the end of the month in Huntsville. They always have a nice, friendly show with lots of gorgeous eye candy.

I got my supply of bottles in for my shower gels/lotions, so now I can get some travel sizes and smaller sizes made for sale. I got in 2, 4, and 8 oz bottles, so now I have to sit my little butt in front of the calculator and notepad and make up a price list, as well as jot down my ratios. Keep your fingers crossed for me that I can get it going...otherwise I'll have b-day and Christmas gifts for YEARS to come! LOL!

Jacki, never made the connection on the 'volcano bait' Sheesh, let's say 1983 and call it even! Pics please on the new paint job?

Shawnee, glad you're taking a bum day--sure is nice to have the yard all prettied up and then take the time to enjoy it! Our shrub magnolias should be ready to bloom soon, azaleas look like they'll have a good year, and our Bradford/Cleveland pears are looking to really show out. Starting to get some nice buds on the epiphyllums (orchid cactus) in the gh too!

Julie, ewww on the description of RLS...I thought it was a severe form of what I get sometimes where you'll have muscle spasms and your legs will involuntarily kick. The worst for me is leg cramps after a busy night on forklift!

Loretta, I haven't given blood in years, but the last time I did I got a bit woozy. Never passed out from it though. I'd hate to see what I'd say if they tried to force an oreo cookie down the hatch! LOL! Take it easy and rebuild the vein-juice!

Linda, on all that sneaux y'all got! I NEVER want to see white chit like that again. That would be enough to make me postal, forget quitting smoking too! You're doing good, keep on keeping on

Zip, those poor puppy feet would be so ate up by all that salt, no wonder they put boots on them! We never had that problem in MN, but our sheltie did get snowballs between his toes periodically and we'd have to stop to remove them before he got cut when they refroze into ice We never booted him since his outside time in the winter was just his walks and quick potty runs, then inside to melt! We were pretty much in suburbia, so salt wasn't too bad.

Barb, my niece is just outside Denver, talked to her today....how far are you from there? Sounds like y'all are in the same climate, but not sure how the land lies in CO.

Well, all, better get my lurkies in.... tomorrow will be a bit of a 'crafty' day!
