New Maintainers - All Plans (Wk of 2/13)
Happy Valentine's Day! Hope everyone had a great weekend. If you didn't stay on plan, Monday is a great day to start over! I stayed on plan this weekend but I was hungry so I may need to add more protein. I'll check back in on Monday. Vickie

Good Morning Corgi - Glad to hear you stayed on plan. I didn't do as well as I would like to have. Tomorrow I plan to start out clean with the meat/egg fast for a few days and go on to OWL and then clean maintenance again (I hope). I will not start today because we have plans to go to a very high end restaurant tonight for our Valentine's Day Dinner and I don't want to have to worry so much about what I eat. I will not overdo anything but they have a couple of entrees I love and have no plan to worry about what is in or on them. Tomorrow is another day and if it is not, at least I enjoyed my last meal.
I've been real lazy with my exercises the last couple of weeks and have got to get back into it. If I can't get to the gym I have decided I will jog three miles around my subdivision. We have a perfect loop around our house of exactly one mile and very good for jogging. I'm sure hoping I will stick to it. Some days I get so tired of trying to get to the gym and absolutely hate videos. I even have a gym at home which I need to be using. I'm hoping getting out in the fresh air some will keep me going. Hope everyone has a wonderful Valentine's Day! Ann

Ann, sometimes I do just the meat/egg fast and it does help to get the appetite back under control. I do my exercise at home except for going to a neighborhood track for my 3 mi jog/fast walk. Even if you don't do anything else, the walking definitely helps. Have you tried using hand weights? The weight training is another good exercise that you can do at home. Just start with lighter weights if you are new to wt training. Enjoy your dinner out!
Julie, hope you are doing well. Continued prayers for Betty. I was at 109.5 Monday morning. Tue and Wed will be challenging for me as I will be eating out those 2 days and will be away from home all day each of those days. I will need to carry some portable foods as snacks. Vickie

Hi Vickie and Ann,
I've still out of control. The carb cravings will not go away so..... Starting tomorrow I'm back to strickly LC. Forget the calories, I guess I had to find out myself. I get too mnay cravings. But I'll not start today and tomorrow will be a new day. My jeans are very tight so am sure I'll be up. Almost afraid to get on the scale after not for a few days. Ann, ONLY meat and eggs?? How long do you stay on that? Might think about it to get the cravings under control. This eating is a hard job huh? Vickie, so good at supporting us. Now, you do so well getting back on the "losing" mode. How do you do it? Do you just lower the carbs and the lbs creep back off or what? I need alll the help I can get. I think counting the calories and upping the carbs started a bad craving for me. I learned a lesson. Starting a new Challenge tomorrow on the GY so join in Ann. Vickie are you going to continue? I hope so! The more support we can get the better. Thanks for being here. ![]()

Julie, yes, I am going to continue on the challenge. When I gain a few lbs, it is because I add too many carbs (fruit, peanut butter, yogurt). I just go back to induction level and the weight comes back off (although more slowly than I gain it). But I don't think the weight I gain is fat but is most likely just water weight. I hold water so easy. It is frustrating. This time, I am trying to follow the carb ladder in a more proper way so I can find a way to have the foods I really like but yet maintain between 105-110. Do you do any weight training? If not, I really encourage it because building muscle helps burn calories.
I am watching the dog show on USA. I want all of them. Vickie |

Our dog show isn't on for another hour so don't tell me how the Bichons went.
No Vickie I don't do any weights. Everytime I start them, I quit again. It's hard to keep the motivation with them. Do you do them at home and if so what's your routime? I wish I could stick with them. I know it would help. Tomorrow is a new day and new challenge for me so will give it my all. I hear ya on water weight. Thats what got me in trouble this past week. Hit me when the defenses were down and I plunged into a binge!!!!!!!!!! It's never too late to begin again. Going strickly LC this time and sticking to it forever. Enough fa*ting around. |

Julie, I do most of my exercise at home (my 3 mi jog/fast walk is done at a track near my home). I have always liked wt training and I am really serious about building noticeable muscles. I wt train 3 days a week for 30-35 min using up to 80 lb wts. The thing with the wts is that, although you need to start out with lower wts, you must challenge yourself if you want to gain muscle. I also do pilates for my abs. I do spend a lot of time exercising. MWF, my total time for everything is 1.5 to 2hrs; Tu,Th,Sat, the time is 45min to 1hr.
Hang in there, you can get back on track. Just commit to at least a week of clean, low carb eating and I think you will be motivated to continue. Vickie |

Hi ladies, well I'm on to my 3 Day Kimmer thingy. The one that is so popular right now. Name it, I'll try it.
I did so well for a year and all of a sudden I'm in "no man's" land. This flip flopping around is new to me. I'm not sure what caused it other than I set out to gain a couple of pounds and it escalated into you know what and I can't control the beast. All my smaller size clothes are tight, thank God I can still get them on but not if I keep going in the wrong direction. I just think us little ladies right now are all in the same rut. Sounds like we are just beating a "dead horse" to death. I have a question for you all. First I think the few of us that have been posting are all in close age proximity so here goes. Truthfully, for your age range, height range, what do you really think is a healthy weight for you.? Some people keep telling me, Ann you are not a teenager anymore, you are a Granny. It's like I'm expected to be overweight and out of shape. Do you believe in the old rule; 100 lbs. for first 5', and 5 lbs. for each additional inch? I also want to be in good physical shape as far as staying active and exercising, having lower body fat, but do you all want to look like body builders, have the six pack, etc? In answers to my questions: I'm 56 years old, 5'2", small boned. I truly believe my weight is good anywhere between 100 and 110 lbs. I try to stay active; I do move around a lot. I don't always get a lot of formal exercises; I do try to do some cardio, weight lifting, etc. but personally have NO desire to have a six pack or build up big muscles. Maybe if I were younger but as long as I don't have a lot of flab I'm happy. Personally, I feel like I'm in pretty good shape for my age; then why can't I be just a happy granny? Lord knows, I'm mighty proud to be a Granny. I have two precious, beautiful grandbabies and my goal in life is to grown old with DH and enjoy them grandbabies. How about you? |

Hi Ann,
Well I'm 61 and 5'2" and weigh as of today 122. If I weighed 110 like I'm suppose to, I would look like a refuge. As I got older I lost weight in my face and at that weight I would be waaaaay too thin looking. 120 is probably ok but I like to have 5# to play around with but I can't seem to maintain it. Do you suppose that is telling me something? I did maintain 117/118 for a good 19 months so that is what I'm shooting for. I too have been on an eating jag and haven't a clue why. Why do we do this to ourselves? Why or why???? So today am back on the wagon and eating just protein for a few days. Ann, what is the Kimmer thingie??? So far so good but it's only 1:30 in the afternoon. Evening is when I have trouble. I need all the encouragement I can get! Oh I'm a granny too to 5 DGKids, age 19 down to 18 months! |

Hi you guys,
Just a short note to let you know I am still alive ... and trying so hard to overcome this demon of depression. I am on meds and seeing a psychologist right now .. slow (very slow) progress, but for now, that's all I can expect. I'm just not patient at all. Still having a difficult time holding on to weight .. I fluctuate between 93-94.5 despite eating (DH makes sure I eat) .. just not real hungry most of the time. Still running so I know I have to have the fuel for that. Don't want to lose muscle I've worked so hard for. Anyway, wanted to let you know I am still around. Glad you're all on track and doing well. Betty

Betty it's so nice to see you posting. Sounds like you are trying and I just know you are going to be just fine. It's good to know your husband is helping you and being sure you eat. I agree, you don't need to stop the running. You have worked so hard for your results and have a lot to be proud of. Just take care of yourself.
Corgi, Julia - like I said before we all seem to be in the same boat. The Kimmer thingy is basicly a protein fast. There is a huge thread on the main BB about it. Its interesting to read and a lot of people are doing it. I've had a great first day. Can't wait to get myself back in ketosis; its been a long time. Everyone have a nice evening and I'll catch up tomorrow. Ann |

Betty, I am glad you are keeping in touch. I am glad your DH is watching over you. Please hang in there. Just make sure you are eating enough for the running that you do.
Ann, I am 56 and just over 5' tall. I do not feel any older than I did in my 30s. I do want to build visible muscle and I won't give up on that dream. Although my DH and my family think I have lost too much weight, I feel really good at 105/107 and am working hard at staying under 110. Julie, there are threads in the ML and Challenge boards regarding Kimmer's way. I believe it is very low calorie and as Ann said, mostly protein. Kimmer lost a lot of weight really fast. IMO, I don't believe you have to starve yourself to lose weight. For me, because of the amount of weights I am lifting and the exercise I do, I have to keep my calories up. I will be challenged on Wed at lunch as I am going to a matinee performance of a dinner theater. They give you a choice of meats but everything else is standard. I hope I can get fruit/cheese for dessert instead of the regular dessert. Have a great Wednesday everyone! Vickie |

Hi everyone!
I would like to introduce myself. I am currently at goal and would like to join you guys. I have a very hard time maintaining this weight as I know how to get the weight off, just have a hard time keeping it off. I met goal last Sept?/(I believe) but then lost it after a vacation hoildays and all of that. i currently met goal again and would like to keep somewhere at 105 to 108.. My plan is this...I watch it during the week and then eat what I want on weekends(aka carb cycling) this was working for me but I cannot stray from it at all on the weekends and if I do I slowly add weight. So I have been watching it a bit more on weekends, and allowing myself a bit more room during the week. I have also added more good carbs in my diet but still watch the bad white carbs. Another thing I am learning is that I need to go to bed feeling hungrey at least a few days a week to stay at goal. On a personnel level, I am 39 a mom of one gorgeous 3 and a half year old. Live in CA and own my own buisness(along with dh) i am a sah/work from home mom. I hope to learn how you guys do this! |

Welcome Janina!
Wow, that's quite a plan. I haven't heard of that before. When you say you eat what you want on weekends, what kinds of stuff do you eat? (just curious)... Do you know your CCLM?? I'm always interested in how people handle maintenance. For me, vigilance is key .. I dare not go back into starchy foods again....I know myself all too well. Tell me more!! And again, Betty |

Thanks for the welcome Betty!
Wow you are just the tinest little thing. I am a size 0 at 105 and being 5'2, so you are just very thin!!! As far as my plan..i am not strick Low carb, so I hope I am still ok here. I started low carb and the 5 lbs fell of quickly. I had 5 more to go but they just wouldn't come off. I found myself splurging on lc cheesecake, cheese and butter on weekends as eating on weekends just fits in with my life, and I wasn't losing. So one weekend by accident really I ate carbs. Not bread or pasta but sushi and chocolates..after three days I was down 2 lbs. I realized that my body gets stuck in a rut and mixing it up a bit works. During the week I might have oatmeal in the am but I will watch my carbs and fats at night. i really don't eat cheese as it stalls me, so I am not a true Atkins but more of a low carb person. what is your plan like? Do you watch calories now at all are or you strict low carb? I am also interested in others woe! |

Betty, I am sorry, I didn't realize you were going thru a depression and it is affecting you! That is great you are getting the help you need. My mil went thru something similar and didn't help...it is the best thing to do!
Vicki, I think I saw you before on another board. i love hearing that you don't feel over 30! I do not have alot of mucle. I wanted to take the weight off first and then work out, if I add muscle then I will know it is that. Jewel, I agree with the face and weight thing..what is that expression sacraficing the face or the butt? Since people look at our faces, I say face! Ann, the protein fast sounds interesting. i found myself back in ketosis a while back and I felt so nausous..the way I did in the beginning..it was strange! but I did lose weight |

First of all..
Janina!! Love your name. I have a DGD named Jana but yours is so pretty. How do you pronounce it? Jan ena or Jan ina?Betty, so how are you doing? So glad you joined in there with us. Maintaince is so tricky and we are all different. I have a very addictive personality, I'm surprised I didn't become anexric or bulemic. Well, I've been trying to do all protein the last 2 days and failed. I don't know how they do it? I just can't. last night I ate some lite yogurt, 16 carbs! Sp. sqush for dinner added up to 10 carbs. I was shocked at that #. So I did terrible. I will just try and keep the carbs down but I'm not one to do this all protein thing. I'm too weak. How's Ann and Vickie today? |

Julie, thanks for the welcome! May name is pronounced Jan ena.
I have an addictive personality also, so I have quit drinking, smoking, but I can't quit eating..I have been a tad anorexic but learned in therapy that not eating was trying to gain control over my life)at the time I had no control) I agree this is tricky! I can't do all protein either..it makes me sick to my stomach. So hopefully we can learn fro all of us. I mean I know what is right...3 or 4 small healthy meals a day..yet that never happens.... |

Well, I think 5 or 6 even meals a day are best. At least for me anyway.
I am a control freak too! An ex smoker and an alcoholic! Lots of control issues and addictive personality!!!! I'm a mess! So no wonder I have trouble with my eating. We have to eat! edited to say hi to Rachel!! ![]() Last edited by Jewels60 : 02-16-2005 at 06:14 PM. |

Welcome Janina and Rachel. Its good to have some fresh blood in this group. Maintenance has been a challenge for me. I did so good for about a year and I got sick and my weight dropped way too low to 91 lbs. I made up my mind I would try to gain some back and the pounds started piling on way too quick. Betty is smarter than me. If she gains weight she will probably do it the right way. I let all the frankenfoods get out of hand and eventually I started trying out some real stuff. When I did I would go on a binge most of the time. I have found out it is all or nothing for me and I hate it. I suppose it will be a lifetime struggle for me.
Betty, so glad to see you posting. I wish you all the luck in the world. I know you want do what I did trying to gain a few pounds. Now I struggle to stay under 105. I know that is not a bad weight but when you get used to weighing 97 lbs. and feeling good, its hard to see your clothes getting tighter. I've done really well for the last two days on the Protein thing and I'm making one more effort to get my eating under control again. Hope everyone else did well today. Again, welcome to the new Maintainers, Janina and Rachel |

First of all can I say Julie, you are one hot grandma! lol! As far as the height and lbs thing I do believe in that general rule. For those who have muscle, I think it can weight and extra 5 lbs so it is really hard to gage. I have some jeans that I use to see where i am at. If I can zip these jeans and have a little room and no over spill then I am doing good. The rule must be a good one as I look best in the 105 to 110 range...I have been 95 in my 20s and I looked 30s whereas now with alittle more weight on a good day I can pass for late 20s(and sleep and a cute hair day..lol) Also Julie i am all or nothing..I have learned how to do all on weekends and nothing during the week and it seems to work. I know that to stay in this range it will never come easy, and I just need to accept that.
OK Julie, I like you already to admit what you did. I think we will get along fine. I quit drinking 13 years ago, it was the best thing I did for myself, and I did it at a relitively young age. I feel blessed. i quit smoking when I got my pg test back and it was postive..my dd is 3 and a half..the crazy thing is I crave a ciggerette more then a drink at times but it isn't worth it. So here it is with me and food. i guess it could be worse. Rachel, you look amazing in both photos. You are just beautiful inside and out(rachel and I "know"each other from another thread) we both worked at getting our last weight off and it wasn't easy after holiday eating. I hope you all don't mind us coming here. I can't believe I am in company with you tiny ladies! So someone mentioned a challenge? can I join? I am up for a challenge. I need to share with you that I am on vacation as we speak(brought the laptop for work) and I will need to get back on track after this holiday eating..I am actually doing not as bad as last time as we went away. Thanks again for the welcome! |

Janina and Rachel!!! So glad you have joined us here. Congrats to both of you on your weight loss.I have been gone all day. Two of my sisters and I went to a matinee of a dinner theater to see a play. This is my second day of eating out and so I know my weight will be up on Thurs. Janina, I tried the carb cycling and I got so nervous about the weight gain from the high carb days that I didn't keep going long enough to see if my weight leveled out. Hi Julie, Ann, and Betty! Vickie |
