New Maintainers - All Plans (wk of Feb 6)
It has been some time since I put up the New Maintainers thread. I will put the thread up each week. Please feel free to join in and give an update on how you are doing.
I reached my goal in June 2004. My goal wt was initially set at 125 but I was not satisfied with that (I am just over 5 ft tall). I have lowered my goal several times as I continued to lose wt. Just before Thanksgiving, my wt was down to 105.25 but it was difficult to maintain and since then my wt varies from 107-110. This past week I decided to maintain at a higher level (up to 112) so that I could add back yogurt, fruits, nuts, oat bran, peanut butter on a daily basis. I still would like to maintain from 105-107 and might renew my effort soon to get back down to that level. I am exercising 6 days a week. MWF I do 30 min of wt training, 15-20 min ab work, and a 3 mi jog/fast walk. T,Th,Sa I do a 3 mi jog/fast walk and try to do 15-20 min of ab work. Vickie

Good Morning Vickie - Glad to see you starting this thing back up. I'm like you, I have struggled back and forth with my weight. I maintained so well for about a year with no problem whatsoever. Actually, I had let my weight drop a little too low and was getting all kinds of remarks about my weight including true and sincere concern from my DH and my children. Well I started out to gain a few pounds; actually I didn't like the way I looked either. My problem is that I have gotten so used to eating much more and being more liberal with my food choices and now it is beginning to get me in trouble. Once my weight topped over 105 I said, time to stop. I had let myself get up to 109 at one point and have really had to struggle to keep it back down under 105. I have made a renewed commitment to myself this morning to try to get myself back to around 100 lbs. and work hard to maintain at that point; especially for the summer. Its harder to hide the flabby legs in the summer. I am up and down with my exercise. I will go for weeks and do great getting in at least five good workouts per week and then it starts dropping off. I hope I can pick that momentum back up even if it is just a good brisk walk on those days I don't want to go to the gym.
Anyway, thanks Vickie and I hope we will have others joining us. Sounds like you are doing just fine. Really good going on all that exercise.

Vickie and Ann,
Yep, I need this thread too. Thanks for getting it up Vickie. I know you know my struggles Vickie but Ann may not remember. Mine is typical of most of us....up and down and forever a problem. I know most of mine gains are water but I panic. I'm so afraid I'll gain it all back like I've done several dozen times over. Since Xmas I've gone a small binge. I did great over the holidays but why after Xmas I don't know. I was up to 123 but I know how I put it on. Eating poorly and making bad decisions! I even had GERD this past week when I went a short vacation and splurged. I was literally sick the whole 4 days and sat up sleeping. Now is that "sick" or what? I came home and started counting calories and am back down to 120 this morning. I hate counting calories but seems with me, I have to do both! Whatever it takes! I think one of my problems is people telling me how good I look and don't lose anymore. Did it go to my head or what? Ann, sometimes we don't see it in ourselves...getting too thin. It happened to me too back in 1990. I was so gaunt looking and they kept telling me but I wouldn't believe it till I saw a photo one day. So then I gained back 25#!!!!!!!!! I'm sick, sick, sick!! Ann, it is so hard to stay the same weight. Vickie, you can sure relate too. I maintained beautifully for 18 months and then something happened. Guess I got too complacent. I feel for you...it must be very hard to have to gain and then try and maintain again. Trying to get your mindset back. Vickie, sometimes we do have to change our goals. I decided the 115 is just not reasonable. I can't maintain that weight. I think eating healthy is important...getting good nutrients. Nice to have this thread back. Just maintaining IS difficult and I for one, like the support so thanks Vickie.

Hi Ann and Julie! Well after adding back more carbs last week (and over-indulging over the weekend) my weight has gone up from 109 to 114 as of Monday a.m.
The weight above 107 shows up on my stomach and I hate that. I have now decided that it is more important to me to get back to around 107 even if I have to limit what I eat.Julie, I too have people telling me I have lost too much weight and I think, ok, maybe I can relax the eating but now I know I can't relax too much. I tried adding back too much too soon. I did ok until I added back the plain nonfat yogurt and oat bran (although I used both when I was losing wt before). So this week I am back to basics until I get back to 107. Then I really must be strict about counting carbs and will consider counting calories if necessary. I just have to make sure I get enough calories and protein for the workouts I do. Vickie |

Vickie, you'll know you aren't getting enough food if you lose too fast or have no energy!
I was just telling you my experience and have fought it way too long. I'll just count the calories and keep the bad carbs out! For some reason the lower carb way was not working. I know you'll get back down to 107 but maybe join us back on the Challenge thread on the Golden Y. OK? ![]() |

Hi Julie! I was at 112.5 this morning and hopefully will be down some more Wednesday. I am glad that I have continued to keep a daily food diary as I can go back and see what my problem foods are. Vickie |

Just hanging in there. I'm starting Stillman on Monday. I would start earlier but have a babysitting engagement for the entire next weekend and it is difficult to do Stillman when away from home. Trying to just cut back doesn't seem to work too well for me. The one pound I lost was just simply probably from overeating water weight which came off overnight once I started watching my eating. If I don't do something soon I'll just slowly continue to pack the pounds on. All my clothes are still fitting but some of them are a lot tighter than they were a few months ago. If I honestly thought I could go back to a good clean Maintenance and stay there, I would be happy. I just don't trust myself and a couple of days of over endulging will put 3 or 4 pounds on me. I did CAD a couple of weeks to get rid of my cravings and it really helped. I did cut out a couple of bad habits by doing it. I just flat like to eat carbs and I am a CARB ADDICT.
Todays menu: Breakfast BB Carb Freedom Yogurt with a lowcarb peanutbutter cookie(didn't need the cookie but I thought I had to have it) Lunch - Tuna in olive oil (plain right out of the can) and green beans. Ever tried the tuna canned in olive oil? I really like it. Dinner Hoping for a lean meat and veggie or salad.Hang in there and lets continue to keep our "girlish figures". |

Morning,
Well counting calories too must be working. Slowly I'm losing the pounds I put on last week from my huge binge. I'm down about 1/2 lb a day so I've lost 3 lbs. Down to 119.5 this morning and that makes me happy. Not sure how long I can do this counting bit but will stick with it till I see a solid 118. Maybe 117 if I can keep going. Ann sorry it's been so tough for you. I hear ya on the clothes but mine are tight. At lease my jeans are. I always seem to gain it in the tummy, the spot I hate the most. I've never done Stillmans but maybe it will shake things up a little. Ha ha..wouldn't it be nice to just shake those lbs off. Funny, we are babysitting all weekend for our Grandkids too. These 2 are 5 and 1 1/2. Should make for a exciting but exhausting weekend. Thank God my DH is really good about entertaining them. Never tried eating the tuna in oil. Of course now with doing the calorie thing, I'll probably stick to the water one. Today being Ash Wed. for us Catholics we will be eating a small fish dinner. Vickie, whats up with you today?? Getting my hair cut today....Off to church... |

Hi everyone, remember me?
Just wanted to check in and let you know I am still alive...barely. I am down to nearly 93 pounds, having been severely depressed for the past 6-8 months and now dealing with what some may describe as anorexia, although I still eat....just not much. I am on meds now, after a suicide attempt back in Dec and a subsequent visit to the psych unit ... Am seeing a psychologist too so hoping for brighter days ahead. Please say a prayer for me that I can get this demon off my back and gain some healthy weight back. I'll check in periodically and let you know how I'm doing. Thanks guys. Betty

Betty,
and for you to get back to a healthy weight. Please keep us informed of how you are doing.Ann, going back to Atkins induction helps me but I know it is not the answer for everyone. Just hang in there. I have never tried Stillman's. Is it more strict than Atkins? I love tuna and eat in with the oil but mostly in water (I drain both). Julie, glad the weight is dropping back for you. Enjoy the babysitting. I do know how exhausting that is. My weight was at 111.25 Wed morning and I should be lower Thurs morning. I am thankful I did not get any cravings from the over-eating this past Sunday. Our weather is supposed to turn really nasty. There was some rain when I went to Wed night Bible study and the winds are supposed to start gusting 30-50 mph. I hope everyone has a great Thursday. Vickie |

Betty you have been missed. Lowcarbette and I had been very worried about you and hoped you were doing OK. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to help. Hope you are back to your running and working those healthy carbs back in. You always seemed to be so healthy and fit and I kept thinking I would love to be able to run and maintain a beautiful body such as yours. Please hang in there and check in often. You are in my prayers. Granny Ann

Hello everyone. I can't believe it's Friday already. This week has flown by. I was at 111 Thurs morning--thought it would be less, hopefully will be lower Fri. Have any of you tried using the Virgin Coconut Oil? There was an article about it in this week's Woman's World magazine. I know there have been threads about it in the ML but I just wonder if it is beneficial. According to the article, it helps lower cholesterol, which I need. It is supposed to speed up metabolism.
Betty, continued for your recovery.Have a great Friday everyone. Vickie |

Hi, Its been a fairly good week. Hope Betty is continuing to feel better and will check back with us often.
Corgi and everyone else - Do you ever wonder why we worry about our weight so much at our current sizes? Are you like me just scared to death the scale will just keep climbing? I'm finding I will not drop below my current weight unless I do something drastic like Stillman or a sparkling clean induction. I just haven't had the guts to do that lately. I have never been so "wishy washy" about my WOE as I have lately. One day it is CAD, the next day it is Stillman, the next day it is "the heck with it"; I'll eat just exactly what I want. I just need to get back to a good routine of maintenance and quit worrying about everything else. It worked for a good year and it can work again. I just need to get my "mindset" again. Hope everyone has a good weekend and I hope I make up my mind soon. As I said before we will be babysitting this weekend and that little squirt in my Avatar has the German Measles. Just had her first birthday and no MMR vaccinations yet. |

JG,
Yep, you described me to a tee. Wishy washy! I too fluctuate between woe. Right now I'm counting calories and upping my carbs. I had lost 4# but nothing salty yesterday and today am up a lb a half. Go figure! I'm just going to keep it up and see what happens. I'm sick of doing this and at my age I never thought I'd still be having to watch what I eat. I too obsess about it and wish I could just forget it but we can't. When I do forget it and eat like everybody else around me, I gain! Hang in there.. We got our DGKids this weekend too. 5 and 1 1/2! German measles? Didn't know anybody got that anymore. Why not the shots? Hope it goes ok with your babysitting. Do you have a DH who helps like mine? Off to coffee with a friend.... |

Ann, I know what you mean. I think the reason my weight has been fluctuating is that when I get to 105/107, I think I can eat a lot more carbs (which I can't). I had also lost some of the determination I had during the weight loss but after going back up to 114 earlier this week, that scared me back to be disciplined. I am very paranoid about gaining the weight back.
Julie, sometimes the wt goes up for no apparent reason. It is frustrating when you stay on plan and watch the salt intake and still gain. I am down to 110.5 Friday morning. Slowly but surely I will get back to 107. Since Atkins worked so well for me, I just stick with it. Both of you have a good time with the grandkids this weekend. Vickie |

Not doing well on my woe. I've been so preoccupied, I think I'll start being more diligent tomorrow. I'm eating the right choices but a little too much.
How's everybody else doing? |
