VM - What is your secret??????
I am a struggling Maintainer. I did absolutely good for about a year and with the holidays this year and the fact everyone was preaching to me about my low weight set me off on a new path of destruction. I'm managing to hold my own at this point but I AM NOT happy with my WOE. I'm a carb addict and always will be.
My question: What is the secret of your great success? Don't you get plain old tired of worrying about everything you put in your mouth? I don't like meat, I don't like veggies, I could care less if I ever ate another piece of fruit. I want my carbs! The only thing I have going for me at this point is I honestly think I have my cravings under control but I'm not liking what I eat.

I think by looking at your stats Jonah's Granny you have it in control. I don't think that craving will ever to away. I think alcoholics and x smokers have the same feelings.
I think the important thing is to stay in control If you must be satisfied with those high carb items, do so in moderation and then put it behind you and get back on your plan. To say that I have never strayed in my 3 years of maintaining would be a lie. I have strayed but seem to be able to be in control of it. You have done a wonderful job with your weight loss. We are ALL reformed carb addicts.

Ann, I'm a carb addict too but finally broke the addiction.
Vegetables weren't my thing either but I learned to like them. Well not exactly like, tolerate is more like it. When those cravings hit, just eat protein, drink water and wait them out. A craving lasts only a few minutes weather we feed it or not. Hang in there. |

I agree that people will sabotage us big time. I hate vegi's too so I struggle with this. I get this idea sometimes that I should be eating carbs that are healthy. The media is so mean to us, telling us to eat grains! It gets inbedded in my mind and off I go. I love carbs, and am a ex smoker, recovering alcoholic and a plain old additive personality type. I think I need to treat my woe just the same way I do alcohol. NEVER TAKE THAT FIRST DRINK OR FOOD!! JGranny, so how can we do it? I think to really have a heart to heart with ourselves. What do we want more? To be healthy or to indulge. I personally have had my GERD back eating some sugar and way toooo much. I feel like crap too. So today is a new day...back to counting those carbs till I'm back to where I want. Did that thread we had a few months back go by the wayside? The struggling maintainers is what I want to call them but know that wasn't the name of the thread. Hang on with me and lets see how we can encourage each other.

Thanks ladies. What it boils down to is that its not easy and takes constant diligence. I guess after awhile we do learn there are just certain foods that are off limits regardless of the situaiton. Sorry Jewels you are struggling too. I've tried everything and found out there is no secret; its just all up to us and the choices we make. We are in control.

Hi Jonah's Granny
You have done so well for so long! Few (if any) of us have this Maintaining thing down perfectly. It takes individual adjusting. Don't you get plain old tired of worrying about everything you put in your mouth? I don't like meat, I don't like veggies, I could care less if I ever ate another piece of fruit. I want my carbs! ..but WOW ! ...don't like meat, veggies, fruit...just CARBS ! OK that leaves grains, fowl, seafood, dairy...and (bad) carbs ![]() Seriously, what kinda carbs are you wanting/ craving? Anything that can be LCed? (I'd last about 3 days on a WOE that I didn't like, or felt like I had to "put up with" to Maintain...and I sure don't want the stress of worrying about what I eat) Yeah, sometimes it can be a bit of a struggle, cause most of us live in less than perfect eating situations...my personal ones are that I'm Hypothyroid (NO soy) and have to watch my med level...and a DH who LOVES High Carb Crap. I don't wanna be fat for all the usual reasons, so I stay with LC. As I recall, you were really into Yogurt; do ya suppose you could combine your "likes" ( say, dairy and seafood?) into a LC casserole, and toss in some LC veggies? Most of us on the VM Board have made some damn fine cheesecakes, cookies, cakes, muffins...that even non-LCers like too. My "secret" to surviving 4 years of LCing is learning to sub HIGH carb stuff with LC stuff... I gotta feel satisfied and NOT deprived, or I'd drop LCing like a hot rock. (like I did any low calorie, low fat "diets") The Recipe Help Board is full of great ideas. So many good things there taste, look, smell and feel high carb.... Best wishes ShawneeLast edited by shawneesioux : 02-04-2005 at 06:12 PM. |

Ann, I have not put up the New Maintainer's thread since before Christmas. Would it help you if I started it again? Vickie

Thanks again ladies for all your comments.
Sure, Corgi it might be what some of us need. I lost interest because I lost interest in lowcarb for a few weeks. Can't let that happen again! Thanks |
