Good morning Barb and everyone,

We have 10 degrees right now and are going down to 3°F tonight with wind chills of -15. This is weather to make PENGUINS shiver. The water in the tap is COLDER than the water we keep in the fridge.
Linda will have it UNBELIEVABLY COLD and Susun even UNBELIEVABLIER! Stay inside kids!

Water bloat is getting tiresome, but alas, if I'm not going to take a diuretic daily, I MUST cut down salt and that means cutting out almost everything in a can and most prepared frozen foods. That is a big SUCKFEST concept. Who the Hell wants to spend
half of every day planning nutritious low sodium meals and the other half COOKING them...Bah, Humbug! And there's no realistic way I can count calories, fat grams, SATURATED fat, AND sodium, while keeping an eye on getting enough protein to keep building gym muscles...I don't have a built in Excel program in my brain!

Yesterday's lasagna (Stouffer's LARGE) was 2200 mg sodium...AND I added extra parmesan, OY! More "Bah, Humbug."

I have the "cutest" creases accross the back of my wrists <yeccchhh!>

Today I'll roast my first portion of pork loin and have some nice unsalty rice and apple sauce with it.

Hugs to Ginny, <the only Republican I'll hug>
It will be remarkably fast for MIL. Once we make the decision to go, the body understands and cooperates.

Yesterday I burned about 370 calories on the bike in 35 minutes and got final heart rate to 140. I was working at a rate of around 650 calories/hour...pretty ferocious.
For 60 year olds, the bike defines fat burning range as between 96 and 116 BPM and then the cardio range of 117- 136. At age 60 our maximum HR decreases to about 160. Over that it's not called AEROBIC EXCERCISE anymore, but rather TACHYCARDIA <I just gave myself a bellylaugh>
Ranges over that are called the "say hello to St. Peter" range!

Beginning to clean the house...poker game tomorrow (I need new chips but they are so damn expensive.) Bob was scrubbing the kitchen floor when I came out if the bedroom. <Go, kiddo!>

Have a nice warm day you people out west : 54 degrees in Seattle, INDEED, it's positively UnAmerican!

Oh, I made an Internet purchase yesterday, a new cuff for my BP tester, fair price at $16.50.

Geez, sorry Roger! But we are in trouble here with these warm temps. Snow is melting and flooding but next summer there will be no water melting for us. Well, not here on the pennisula but over in Seattle. Ski slopes are closed too. This is not good. Flowers are budding out and hope it doesn't freeze now.

So guess there are 2 ways to look at it.

Roger, stay away from the processed crap!! You can eat clean. Just think fresh! Fresh meat, vegi's etc. You can do it.

Hi Barb, so whats up with your life?

Got a busy day!

Thanks Zip, I think I have my cookies on this computer - my laptop was ok!

Yes, it's that processed food that gets the sodium award. Eat natural Zip!! Need any hunting impliments? We aim to please!

I love to just slip something in the oven from the freezer, etc. because it's so convenient. My DH told me the other day he was watching sodium - since when buster!! Cooking just doesn't take place during the work week!

Other than COLD, is the weather settling down in the lower 48?

Has anyone tried Netflix? It's a movie (DVD) online service where you order as many as you like (can only get three at a time) postage is free and you send it back and you get your next movie. $18 a month -- no late charges!!

Keep
if it's too cold!

Barb

A friend is doing Netflix, Barb. He said it was $20/month so I see they've come down in price. He's got no cable and is an avid movie buff.

Here's how I see it: if you watch a film a night when you get your three and then mail them back and wait for them to mail you three more, at least 7 days transpires between each receipt. So you can get 9-12 film a month at from $1.50 to $2.00 each.
But if you're busy and fall behind one month and get fewer films your cost per film goes up fast.
The downside might be feeling like you are on a treadmill trying to squeeze as many as you can in every month...can be exhausting, and how many movies would you rent that you really didn't care to watch to get your money's worth.
On the other hand it might be good for someone without cable, shut-ins or people who live in the DEEP boonies.

We get almost any film that was ever made from the NYPL for free...we reserve on-line and they notify us by e-mail and send it to the branch of our choice. It's the best deal imaginable.
We also are members of the BEST video rental store in the Western Hemisphere: WORLD OF VIDEO in Greenwich Village, 5 minutes away by PATH train.

My total OUT today was the gym downstairs...GOD but it's cold!

Wow Roger, that's a great site! Thanks.

Can you pop down to Atlantic City and buy some good, used chips? Our facility used to get them and cards free from there. Our Volunteer Service office obtained them somehow.

Yeah try eating clean. You could spend a day a week cooking up a storm and freeze each day's meals. It might save money too.

Barb, Can't help you with the movie options. I just don't watch them. With over 100 cable channels there is lots of variety. My favorites are News, National Geographic, Discovery and occasionally HGTV. The rest I could do without.

Julie, Let's hope your area gets some much needed snow pack. Pray for some heavy spring snow falls. My brother in Montana is extremely concerned about the wild fire hazard this summer.

Ginny, know that we are all thinking of you and your family.

Loretta, how's the weather in your part of the country?

Our area broke another record for cold last night and tonight it's going down to minus 10. Geezzz.

Waving to Susan, Shawnee, Jackie and lurkers.
more later
