THURSDAY ON MAINTAIN MOUNTAIN!!

Patty, that's COLD!! Do you plug your vehicles in at night? When we lived in WY we had to all winter it seems. Even now my DH plugs that Dodge in when it reaches 0.

All this talk of SS makes me feels soooooooo old!! Cut it out! I still look in the mirror and see a young chick!

Julie -- your jeans are tight? Are we cutting back on that cheese again? It must be more than that, do you count calories? I expect a ride this weekend -- are you still picking up and delivering?

Waving the everyone --- later

Barb

Hi Barb, and EVERYONE,

Well, we dodged the bullet with a temperature of 35 and only heavy non-freezing rain overnight...stopped and foggy now. A little inland, NJ got some snow and ice.

Linda,
Bing seems to be on the cusp of rain/snow/ice...I guess that's meterologically called SLOP (sorry to get technical.) DON'T DRIVE; it's one of the advantages of retirement and FREEZERS!

We are taking a break in the rain as a sign from God to GO TO SHOPRITE. The deals are $1.99 six-packs of the Canada Dry family (Sunkist and A&W Root Beer)...also Bottom Round beef roasts at $1.49 a pound. Axelrod yoghurts are $.20 and the Ax. Cottage Cheese (the very best) is $.99 a pound. Taking the BIG cart because we need milk, eggs, 1/2&1/2...all the basics (that happens when I've been sick for 2 weeks.) Oh yeah, Progresso Soups for $1 a can (Clam Chowder is great.)

On the SS poll...I will VERY probably claim at 62 this year but I MUST decide whether I will ever work again. Not bloody likely, but sometimes NEEDS MUST! (I LOVE that phrase.)

Take care everyone and away I go (like the DOWN of a thistle!)

OK, Gal...we want pictures and a verification note from your DH!
Verification? Are you kidding??? hehehe In the summer those skylights give off some good heat but now the sun never gets that high!!! Cooooold here this morning.

Barb, I'm desparate!!! Need to do something fast. I think I made it through the holidays ok but since then I guess I've let up thinking I had this woe down pat! HA!!! I hate this CREEP!!! So do you count calories???? I need all the help I can get....

You may still see a young chick and I do too BUT age doesn't lie sweetie. I think I'll go with the ss too. Why wait, we could drop anytime.

Roger, dang those are good deals. I love the Progresso soups at a buck a can. Nick goes through those pretty fast. Guess I need to check those ads better. Great buy on the roast too.

Off to get my corn whittled down today and not a minute too soon. Dang they can sure be a pain in the little toe!!

Later..........

Good morning everyone! Not too bad only about -25 so far today.
Barb' yes we plug everything in for months. Keep the Nissan in a garage on the house with a heater in there. It (Nissan) came from Florida so had no idea what cold was!!!!!!!
Linda how old do you have to be to collect SS? I have about 19 years of working in. Of course out here they think $5 or $6 is top pay. My years as a park Ranger paid better. But I would like to have my mad money for stupid things I want and my husband doesn't think I need. We women understand right? I can just go online and apply you say? I won't be 62 till August. Might just as well try. Are you putting it into a separate account or will it have to go into the joint account?
WEll guess I better stir up late breakfast or brunch for JuDean and me. Later Patty

Good morning everyone. Yup it's still morning the last time I checked.

Gerard is out shoveling the driveway but I really bet he wishes he had fixed the ride of snow blower thingy. LOL Doing a 125' driveway with a shovel is NOT an easy task.

Weather person keeps saying "significant" ice accumulations on top of the 8" of snow we got, but I'm still going to try to make it to the Vascular surgeon's office about 10 miles away.

Barb, ah the good ol days when we "plugged" in the cars. We had several gadgets to heat the oil or keep the engine compartment warm, and they did the job quite nicely.

Roger, Geezzz I'm jealous. ShopRite has some great prices. Last time I looked, Bottom Round was $2.28 and Dannon yogurt was $.69 at our Giant Market. Wegmans has much higher prices. The super wally world and Price Chopper have better prices on some things but not all that many.

Julie, OUCH!! Hope your poor toe doesn't scream all day in pain. That procedure sounds painful

So what are you eating to make those jeans tight? I don't think eating cheese and nuts hurt much. Are you letting the carbs creep back in?

Shawnee, glad you aren't minding the big 60. It's not that bad and better than the alternative.

Waving to all.

Memo to the Cat and Dog:

1) When I say move, it means go someplace else. It does not mean switch positions with each other so there are two of you still in the
way.

2) The dishes on the floor are yours and contain your food. All
other dishes are mine and contain my food. (Note: placing a paw print
in the middle of my dinner does not stake your claim on it nor do I find it aesthetically pleasing in any way)

3) The stairway was not designed by NASCAR and is not a
racetrack. Beating me to the bottom is not the object. Tripping me doesn't help because I fall faster than you can run.

4) I cannot buy anything bigger than a King size bed. Locate your inner beast and remember sleeping animals can actually curl up in a ball. So it is not necessary to sleep perpendicular to each other stretched out to the fullest extent possible.

5) My compact discs are not miniature Frisbees.

6) For the last time, humans like to use the bathroom alone. If
by some miracle I beat you there and manage to get the door shut, it won't help to claw, whine, meow, bite the knob, or get your paw under the edge and try to pull the door open. (Trust me, I have been using the bathroom for many years and canine or feline attendance is not mandatory.)

7) When you see me asleep on the couch, it is not funny to make a sudden leap onto my stomach and drop a chew toy, bone or jingle ball on my crotch, no matter how much that makes the other family members laugh.

8) Dog: Don't think for a minute that making a sad face and
whimpering pathetically will get you out of trouble when I find a puddle on the carpet. The face and whimpering only validate that you knew it was wrong when you did it.

9) Cat: My sitting down to bite into a juicy sandwich is not a
signal for you to begin gagging loudly and then hocking up the most disgusting hairball in history.

10) Dog and Cat: the proper order is kiss me, then go lick
yourself. I cannot stress this enough!!

To pacify you I have posted the following message on our front
door.
Rules for non pet owners who visit and complain about our pets!

1) They live here ... you don't.

2) If you don't want their hair on your clothes, stay off the
furniture.

3) I like my pet better than I like most people.

4) To you its an animal --- to me, its an adopted child who is
short, hairy, walks on all fours and is speech challenged.

5) Dogs and cats are better than kids. They eat less, are easier
to train, usually come when called, don't ask for money, never drive your car, don't hang out with losers, don't drink or smoke, don't worry about the latest fashions, don't wear your clothes and don't need a gazillion dollars for college.

Finally if they get pregnant you can sell the results.

ROLMAO LOVED the memo Linda!
We got dumped on this aft, just in time for the crawl home, sheesh took me an hour and a half, slow but safe!
Poor Gerard shovelling all that.
DH and I will set to tomorrow as he is not as strong as he used to be with those weak knees.

Roger,
Wow, great bargains! What did you purchase? I hope you did't drink Canada Dry? I thought you were on the wagon?

Julie,
Once the battle of the bulge is over and you become more active those pounds will just melt away. YOU know how to do it!
WE can all encourage each other here.
Take care of those tootsies!

Barb,
I guess you must be a young chick, if that is what you see in the mirror!
I think all this talk about SS is good for us, forward planning and all that eh?
How is Sam today? Sending

Patty,
Yes, we used to plug everything in too, but the last 20 years or so since we got a double car garage, that seems to do the trick.
The last cold spell a few weeks back. DH did have to re:charge his battery on his Maxima. My Volvo started after a short groan!
Your poor Nissan coming from Fla, guess it didnt know what hit it!
Keep bundled!

Wavin to Shawnee, Ginny, Jacki, Loretta and lurkers!
I was at the salt mines today, so tad tired to read yesterdays posts will catch up tomorrow.

Hugs, SuSUN

Hey gang,

Maybe this will decide for us whether to take the SS as soon as possible:
From the Wall Street Journal front page this morning:
(Nuts, there's a way for my scanner to transfer to a font, but it would take me til 3AM to figure it out)
Anyhoo,
<quote> The White House, in a private memo to conservative allies, strongly argues that Social Security benefits paid to future retirees must be SIGNIFICANTLY reduced. The memo disputes those on the right who insist that creating private investment accounts is all that's needed to fix the retirement system.
To fail to make benefit cuts while diverting payroll taxes to workers' personal accounts would be irresponsible and "have serious short term economic consequences."
...Memo was an e-mail Monday from Peter Wehner, Presaident Bush's director of stragegic initiatives, and was marked "not for attribution."
The WSJ received a copy but it was not clear how wide the mailing was.<unquote>
I'm amazed that the WSJ even scooped the NYTimes on this one!

Quick, RUN to the SS Ofice!

Hey all,

Pretty much the status quo here. It's turned off a bit colder today and probably will be tomorrow, but then back to a nice little warmup through the weekend. I'd sure love to be able to open the windows again for some more fresh air!

Linda, the memo is a HOOT! Love that one! Yuck on your sneaux, especially the shoveling part. Y'all be careful, no slipping/sliding or pulled muscles.

Julie, I've used the Dr. Scholls corn patches back years ago and they worked really well. Have to use them longer than they say, but eventually they disappear. You know what to do to get the lbs off....nip it in the bud and get 'er done! Keep a food journal if you feel like that will help.

Zip, $1.99 is a deal for a 6-pack of cokes? Regularly around here a 12-pack is under $4.......but I never buy them anyways, I'll get the 2 liter for cheaper! That beef sounds like a REALLY good price tho....time to fill the freezer?

Patty, back years ago when we lived in MN we plugged up our pickup when it got below 0. It was a good ol' 78 Chevy and would crank over no matter what, but we babied it (and then WE got heat faster too!). Sure glad we don't have to deal with that anymore, but the farmers do plug in their diesel tractors if it gets below freezing.

Susan, be careful driving in that stuff, even tho all y'all up there know how, best to be safe! That 1 1/2 hour drive would have made me nuts--how long does it usually take you? Are you off tomorrow or will you have to go back out in that stuff?

Barb, how's your DD feeling today? Sure hope the stiffness and soreness goes away quickly for her. Be sure to tell her that even though she's been checked out to watch for any other problems and NOT sign off on any insurance waivers etc. Sometimes it takes a few days for everything to gel and be noticed.

Hi to all our absentees.......hope y'all are having a good night!

Off to lurk for a bit, then ZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzz!
