RUBIES for the TUESDAY MVM'S

Hi everybody,

While it's still in the forebrain:
Linda,
Right Click MY COMPUTER; Left Click DEVICE MANAGER tab; Hit the "+" next to DISPLAY ADAPTERS; Right Click yours (probably an NVIDIA card?) and choose PROPERTIES (or click the PROPERTIES BUTTON on the bottom...that will tell you if the card is working right; then choose DRIVERS tab...and hit the UPDATE DRIVERS button...let Windows choose the best driver.
You can't do any harm this way.

Susun,
Tell us about DH's "proteins." Oh, Bob saw the Barrie/Peter Pan movie...he liked it a lot.

Barb,
Congrats on the 2 pound loss. I've got to do SOMETHING to get the last 5 pounds that I want (Down 20# this year.) Maybe an HOUR on the stationary bike<arrrrgggghhhh!>

Julie,
I'm with you on the cheese thing...for me it's a 2-part problem:
1. they keep having the extra sharp 10 ounce cheddar blocks on sale so I buy it;
2. I cannot walk by the fridge without slicing another ounce (I weigh it...I really DO!)
When I was on Atkins I was eating 5-6 ounces of 70% butterfat, doulbe cream BRIE every night...at least the cheddar is less fat than that, but I have GOT to find a snacking substitute!

Ginny,
Three of Phonecia's flowers opened and I think I'll have to be content with them...the first 2 of the 40 other flower buds have discolored and dried already from the stove and I'm sure all the rest will follow...I just can't fight the laws of phal nature. Oh well, I made a conscious choice and I'll live with it...at least the Zygos and the African Violets are blooming like houses on fire and we're nice and warm.

Shawnee,
On the "I like snow" comment I immediately ran and got two crucifixes and held them against your post. My ideal world would be sunny 76° days and 65° night for the rest of eternity...NO DEVIATIONS!

Gotta admit, I'm CURIOUS whether I'll get any ink-flow from the printer...I'll be pissed if the tanks are dried up. Linda, how often is the minimum use to keep them open?

We have an OLD OLD OLD CITIZEN 5800 Black Ink Jet Printer (20 years...dentist had it in his basement?) and 4 times a year we pull out the 50 feet of ribbon (across the whole apartment...and ink it with a stamp pad inker...it works on and on and on and ON and ON...with ZERO cost (neighbor gave me reams and reams of the "continuous" paper) but it really isn't what you'd want for "letter quality."

Shawnee,
I need a poussy fix...is Chuck feeling up to a photo-sit?

To all a good day...just aerobics for me and the second half of EARTHSEA tonight (Sci Fi Channel.) First half last night was good.
They are doing BOTH parts tonight for anyone who likes good FANTASY-SCI-Fi (from 7PM to 11PM.)

Loretta,
How could I forget you. All new computers have growing pains...and make the happy new owner NUTS. My current one had a blown hard drive that took a month to diagnose using all the bells and whistles diagnostics on the planet...and then I had to reload everything onto the new hard drive, which was a WEEK'S more work.

My FIRST one though (PROTEVA), ran so horribly poorly with EVERYTHING I tried and it took a while for ME (not tech support of which there was virtually NIL) to determine that all the cards in the computer were loose from poor installation or delivery in a horse and buggy over the Rockies.

After finally getting them the way they were SUPPOSED to be, both proved to be excellent machines.

Patience, it's the way we learn how these dang-blasted things work.

Hi to all

The new pc is time consuming and DH thinks I have climbed inside this gizmo. Annoying all of the updates for security etc. Glad that the service pack is on this guy already.

Zip I am starting a new bp med today called Lotrel. It is GUARANTEED to lower your bp. It is a combination of two drugs.http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic3/amlobenaz.htm I am to continue with my atenolol, 100. I will take 50 at night and 50 in the am. I think I will take the Lotrel at supper time instead of in the am. My first pc was an ACER. That was an education it inself.

Ginny glad you are getting your shipping done. Everytime I go to that post office there seems to be a line. I have a few more items to mail out. Did you get this cold wave? In the 20s this am. Glad you found a way to keep warm at work. My walk really warms me up except for my face.

Good news Linda that you will be seeing one of America's Best Doctors soon. I know you will have lots of questions for him.
I think Susun had a great idea for you to go there the night before incase of bad weather. I'll vote for that. Less stress.

Julie glad to hear that you are doing OK. This is a tough time of year for a lot of people, plus what the normal stress brings. I for one will be happy to see Jan 1 2005. I only like the snow on the grass and not on the roads. I miracle might be needed for that.

Susun I bet there will be lots of gals your age or older in that class and not just young uns. Enjoy it. Is your job paying for the class? That is even better. Will you go back to Fla soon?

Barb you sure are in the right area of the country since you love all that snow. How long have you lived there in Colo?
Congrats on that 2 lb loss!!!!!!!!! KUTGW

Shawnee I FEEL like I have so many things to do in this pc. I have not had time to enjoy it all the way yet. It will be just fine though and I am happy to have made the switch over to XP.
I baby sat Leah Sat evening. She sure was good for me, we even took her to church and she behaved there. The folks were at a Christmas party. She is on regular milk now and eating table foods plus a little baby food.

Hi Jacki lurki

Special to those needing them today.

Later, I hope

I'm here!!
I think my knee is telling me, my job is killing me!!! I have to squat to get under my cabnets and it's just toooo much. Called my boss yesterday but he didn't call me back yet. Grrrrrr Hate to quit but don't know how I can keep this up. Orthopedist appt on Thursday and not a minute too soon. Taking Advil regularly and icing it.

Zip, I'm up 3 # since Thanksg. and I HAVE to give up something and cheese may be it. Writing everything down and see where I am. I hate doing that but something gotta give.....Barb, HELP!!! Words of wisdom for this ole broad!!

Linda, are you going to attempt Roger's advice? I did go to the website he showed the other day and got rid of some junk. Scares me but so far nothing happened that I can see.

Loretta, getting a new computer sounds waaaay toooo complicated for illiterate me. Hope this Dell lasts a long time, at least til I get smarter. I knew nothing when I got my first one, about 5-6 years ago. So I've come a long way but not long enough. LOL Good luck..

Susun, sounds like when your DD unleashed you, she is using you more all along. Are you enjoying it or is it a bit much? I couldn't get enough of Nick, my first, and did babysit 3 days a week during the day. Loved it but cou***'t do it now. One day the other day with my DS kids and I was a wreck.

Shawnee, come on, we need ole Chuckster to join us again and put smiles on our faces.

Ginny, you are in our thoughts and prayers today.

Off to try and bowl today.

Oh Loretta,

You are taking large doses of atenolol [beta blocker] <you'll DRAG around>, amlodipine[calcium channel blocker],<your feet will swel>, and the benazapril [ACE inhibitor]<you'll COUGH 24/7.
Mark the old zipster...you won't be able to bear that regimen for even a month, if that. All of them will also contribute to insomnia.
That combo is really WAY too much medication,

Why not read the healthboards.com page on High Blood Pressure...everyone there has taken EVERYTHING (myself included.) I am a firm believer in monotherapy, in spite of the doctors and drug companies who want to sell 14 bad medicines when one won't do the job.

Julie,
Let's try a cheeseless week. (Friday, 12/17 though Thursday 12/23.) Whadda you say? (Notice I left out Xmas Eve and Xmas Day)

Hi Y'all
Just wanna get this info posted re Ginny, then be back later to chat.

As y'all know...I was pretty upset last night about Ginny's situation with her old darlin, Bubba.
Thankfully, the situation is better than anticipated.
from G, after the Vet visit:

Well, the vet says it is not a stroke, but Vestibular
Disease (inner ear infection) which causes many of the
same symptoms that a stroke would. He's on an
antibiotic, prednisone and an antihistamine.
.................................................. ..............
BLESS your heart, Ginny! and
to you and Bub and Family. REST for ALL.

Be back later

Hi everybody,

Shawnee, Oh thank GOD the pup didn't have a stroke but something that can be treated. I just broke down and cried when you notified us of the problem. Whew!!

Ginny, huge ((((hugs))) to you and pup.

Roger, I did try what you said many, many times but unfortunately I can't get to Device manager or the + doing it that way. Maybe XP is different. I went to "My Computer" and couldn't even find display adapters. Actually I rt. and left clicked everything there and nothing like you posted showed up.

This BP crap is going to drive us all NUTS! It's high, it's low, this med works for awhile and quits, this med has too many side effects...etc. What the hell are we supposed to do?

Susan, don't work too hard and don't worry about that class. So what if there are young'uns there? You can probably show them a thing or two.

Loretta, YIKES that is a lot of medication. Sheesh! Does the Atenolol give you "sock" lines? It's driving me nuts and I'm only on 25 mg.
Thanks for the link on the new med. Interesting but I'd still be scared.

Glad you got to have fun with Leah. So what kind of foods does she like? Little Nick will eat anything!! LOL

Julie,
OMG your poor knee. I know you love the job and being busy but geezzz. You can't have that knee acting up. Why don't you just hold off quitting until you see the doctor and get his opinion. (((hugs)))

I've tried many things that Roger suggested but not much works. I really think there is something radically wrong with this damned machine.

We went to look at a vehicle today and the darn brakes didn't work very well, those ******* car salesmen!!! Anyway on the way home, we spotted a Toyota RAV4 at a small place. It had 73,000 miles on it but it looked to be in great shape. It was under book value, pretty good warrenty, and the guy had the "carfax" report. No accidents, etc. so we may take for a spin tomorrow. If it works out, it should last us a few winters. We shall see.

HI Guys.

Back from DD's, love being there for DD and Ella. I can see how it can become too much though. Thanks for the tips Julie.

I think I am okay about the course tomorrow, just a tad nervous. Thanks for all your encouragment.

Loretta,
Yes, they are paying for the course and my salary for the two days that I attend. I sure need this course. It is crazy when you have lots of info in your head and cant seem to express it logically and concisely. So I will be like a sponge and taking lots of notes for the next two days. The instructor has a PhD so I hope he will be gentle with me.
We will probably go to Fla after my next group. I usually start one January for the new years resolutions for 8 weeks, so after that.

Shawnee,
I am SOOOOO relieved to hear the good news on Bubba! Whew!

Wavin to y'all and keep well!

Hey y'all,

Well, I was a wreck last night at work (Bub's trouble happened after I had gone in, and DH got the brunt of it), and with little sleep for either of us it was a long drive to the vet's office. This morning Bub actually trotted a bit when he went outside, but still pretty staggery. The dr.'s visit wore the old guy out, but he is on his 3 meds and should be showing significant improvement soon. I sure hope the dx is correct and it is complete, since Vestibular Disease is completely curable, with no lasting damage. Basically, it is an acute inner ear infection, and shows up in weakness, loss of balance, eye movement rapidly sideways and up-down, and the tendency to hold head sideways and walk in circles. All these are also signs of strokes, but the big difference is the eye movement and also with stroke there is generally paralysis of one side or the other. In dogs, the Vestibular area has 3 sections. One is vertical, one horizontal and one at 45 degree angle. If these get infected (and especially if the barometric pressure changes) it will cause severe vertigo and make the critter act stroked out or drunk. There is no way to diagnose this until the symptoms show up, and when they do it is like a ton of bricks! Bub was never in any pain, never whined or whimpered throughout it, didn't try to bite himself or anyone else. He still hasn't shown any interest today in food, but last night I was able to spoon feed him a can of dogfood (he loves that kind!) and he is drinking sparingly. Hopefully when he wakes up from this current nap he will be hungry--that will make ME feel better!

I've gotten about a 3 hour nap today and feel pretty human. DH is currently tapped out on the couch getting his nap. The rest of the gang has been quite concerned, and none of the usual enthusiasm of seeing Bub (they are segregated so no one bumps him) when they do go past him to go outside. Usually when one is away for any length of time, the absentee will get mugged upon return.

Thanks y'all, for your thoughts and prayers for my baby and us! Bub is 13, moves pretty slow anymore, and at his age we are concerned about how much more time he will be with us. All y'all's support means A LOT to me!

to everyone!

Ginny I am so happy to hear the good news for Bub and you also. We are never quite prepared to let go. Good news that it is curable.

Well I am on my old pc. I have had to take a break from the other it is too much for my brain to compute. I am on overload and just punching keys. I have messed it up once more.
Maybe I will just return it. Or wait until after Christmas. Xp is difficult to say the least.

Zip please don't tell me any more bad news about the rx. I just want something to keep this bp in control. I guess I will just force myself to get around. I was used to the 100 of atenolol after a while. It might take some adjustment with this new guy but it might be worth the risk of not having a stroke.

Great news Ginny!!!

These fur babies keep us on our toes.

No cheese???? It's what I need but........ what are the alternate snacks? I KNOW that cheese and nuts are my downfall -- and I also take a slice when passing thru!! OK -- I'm game but already had some on my broc. tonight.

Loretta, I used to be on Lotrel and can't remember why we switched. Low blood pressure is important and high BP nothing to fool around with -- is heart disease in your family?

I have lived out west since I moved from WI -- good answer Barb! Oh, that was about 1970 or so. I hated snow in WI, and by February I was just plain mean and grouchy. But out here -- it's been different from the humid cold and snow. Then we did live in KY for 4 years and didn't have any!! From KY we moved to WY where we had drifts higher than people and a heavy duty snow blower!! The snow was so high the dog could walk over the fence. CO seems to be just right!

to everyone, more tomorrow - too tired!

Barb

Hey Y'all

Ginny and heartfelt to you and Bub and family...know y'all have been thru a really rough time.
Blessings and hoping that those meds do the trick for him, and give him some quality...and time. We all care about you, and your whole bunch.

Oh, poor Loretta...I know how frustrated you are. I can't help but think that perhaps you just got a machine with problems...remember my first XP, and how I was banging my head for a week with it it was a flippin' lemon!!! I exchanged it, then the replacement was NORMAL. (it wasn't ME after all ) I'm sorry for your frustration.

Yahoo for lil Leah...she has her Gramma's good qualities

Julie...so you and Barb and Zip are doing a Cheese Challenge?
Gonna call yourselves the ExCheeseHeads?
I went thru the cheese thing last summer, running in and out of the house...grabbing it as snacks. Luckily I was able to switch to other things like bell peppers and cukes. Too bad the price of them is rising!!!!
I now cook more meats than I need, and keep leftovers available.

OK, Zip....put the crucifixes away. Let's have a Peace PowWow re the Sneaux. Pass the Pipe (No, not THAT pipe)
Having spent a Christmas wearing shorts in LA, I NEED to feel the change of Seasons. Can't take the cold so well anymore, but the same ol, same ol weather gets boring. We'll all come visit ya every Winter when ya get moved to your warm Paradise.

Here's your "P" - fix : (ya owe me big time)

This is Bob's Mom's ol' antique-y rocker, ShawnPup's TeddyBear...and Snarley CharlieChuckster

http://photobucket.com/albums/v179/s...pteddybear.jpg

He's into Bears....
http://photobucket.com/albums/v179/s...terCHBears.jpg

Lastly, the Annual Cat & Tree Pose

http://photobucket.com/albums/v179/s...huckCH2004.jpg

Montana, good luck with the vehicle shopping...hope ya find a good one at a great price. All 3 of ours are 4x4s, and keep chains in them too "just in case"

Barb, y'all are like the Three Bears...and finally found the one (snow state) that's "just right" . Those Rockies are magnifico.
Good luck with the cheese-dumping.

Jacki, *whine*...I never see ya anymore! Miss ya!

SuSUN...go to Class and show your class. We believe in your smarts and talents!!

To ALL, hoping your tomorrow is content.
