SUNday December 12th MVM

Good Morning Mountaineers!

No Sunshine today, just a white, very full sky. Lots of light reflecting from the sneux though, so at least we have that.

Ginny,
LOL! on the PUPS questions on your return! What a wonderful program the Greyhound rescue is. There are several folks around here that are members, one is a local doctor and his wife.

Shawnee,
Fill out those bellies indeed! I agree, I have never seen an overweight Greyhound!

Better make more tea, I think DH is stirrin!

L8ter,

SuSUN

Good morning SuSUN and the rest to follow.

Lots of sun here -- really feels good and does a body GOOD!

Went to watch some HS Basketball last night and was fun -- don't have much tolerance for some of those "youngsters" who run around and eat the whole time. But, some players had asked me to come and watch them. We all need some recognition for what we do.

Cleaning today and football -- have more wrapping to do!!

Later,

Barb

Hi Susan, Barb (in at the same time) and everyone,

Partly sunny and cooler (44° ) here today. I'll TAKE it happily after many days of rain/fog/drizzle...like April weather. We're going to the theater and dinner today in the Village (Greenwich) so I'm glad it's nice.

Computer on the brain department: I came upon some info on upgrading the BIOS, the startup semi-permanent memory burned into a special BIOS chip...sort of the "who am I, what do I do first?" core of our computers. In the last half decade or so, these chips have been made FLASHABLE meaning the info can be changed. I researched mine and it was VERSION A5 on this Dec. 2000 Dell Dimension 4100 (you see this info by hitting PAUSE/BREAK key exactly when the first written stuff appears on bootup.) F1 restores the bootup after you read the stuff.
I downloaded the latest for my puter which is Version A11 written in 2002- onto a floppy. THat was the last for this computer and Windows ME (like Ginny's I think.)
I'm trying to get up the nerve to boot the computer with the floppy in the drive ...it will FLASH (upgrade) the BIOS...but if ANYTHING goes awry, the situation can be a nightmare yielding a HUGE $1500 paperweight which is in a permanent BSOD coma!...I JUST cannot decide whether to do it or not.
Anyone wanting to check theirs out, this page is WONDERFUL:
http://wimsbios.com/

Oh, the "old" turkey breast was WONDERFUL and I'm sold on the transverse slicing method. Our freezer holds food VERY long because it's sub-zero and doesn't ever do a defrost cycle...that damages food, especially meat, by warming it every day to melt frost !

Hi to all

I am alive and screaming, pulling my hair out. Well not that bad. I am finding my way around in the xp system. Owing to a few owner mistakes I have had to redo most of my work. Already I have messed up and have had to a restore. That *&^% quicken program is what got me messed up. I am trying to copy my files from my old pc to the new program and they might not even be compatable. I will call the Quicken people tomorrow. It is nice having a new toy and I should have gotten it sooner before I tried to beathe some life into my windows 98 se. Zip get a new computer. Too much of hastle. I am happy thought that I had the cd writer so now I can move stuff from the old pc to the new one in the folders etc. That is a big help.

Susun has you Dh gone to the doc yet? sure hope he gets some answers very soon for his legs etc. Sorry you had such a scary trip getting home from DD's Maybe they should bring Ella to your house. That would be nicer for you. Especially if you have to travel on unsafe roads. We had Leah last night while mom and dad went to a Christmas Party. She was pretty content and happy even though we had to take her to church again.

Ginny it sure would be nice if they could catch the culprit. It would make for better security at work. Seems like a lot of hastle to lock up your lunch and bring an ice pack.

Shawnee I have been making flax meal muffins for a while now and eat one twice a week, usually. I have a recipe if you need it. Just let me know. I put cranberries in mine.

Barb won't you be out soon for Christmas break, maybe in another week or so. You will be home for Christmas, right.?
We will go to local step daughters on Christmas Day, but not sure how the rest of the celebrating will workout. Probably after christmas.

Zip I want to find a FREE photo converter. I used to use photo islands all the time. I think it is not accessable any more.
I sure have lots of new stuff to learn here on this pc, but a lot is similar to the old. I want to accomplish it all in one day.

Now where is Linda today?

Well, will check in when I get a chance, in the mean time I am having fun and frustration.

Tis me finally, been gagging lollies most of the afternoon just reading the paper and making phone calls to family.

My 2nd son and his family are flying off to Disney World tomorrow for 10 days. Hopefully little Nikolas will be good. He is a real happy baby but all that time on a plane might make him cranky.

Susan, Bet that snow is beautiful!! BUT did you have to send it on it's way here? We are getting some tonight, and we wanted to go to PA tomorrow and look at 4 WD cars. Heck we may not even be able to get out of the driveway with the Corolla.

Shawnee, I agree that those poor pups do look rather thin and would probably do the same.

Ginny, LOL your poor group of fur babies probably wonder just what you were up to. Don't you just love those magnificent Greyhounds?

Barb, I'm jealous. We don't see much sun until spring, darn it all.
Yeah, those young kids just eat constantly and it shows. Gosh I have never seen so many overweight kids from very little to teens. How sad.

Roger, yes you scare me too. I haven't a clue what you are talking about since I know almost nothing about computers. LOL

Glad that turkey breast came out good. Gerard must have been reading here because he came home with another turkey and I woke to that wonderful smell this morning. What a guy, eh?

Julie, Hi ya. So what are you up to today?

Loretta, Quicken? I've heard of it but never used it. LOL I'm a dunce.
Hope you get used to XP soon. It's not really bad at all.

If you find a free jpg converter, let me know. I'm still waiting for Don the computer guy to come and fix what ever happened to my computer. It just doesn't give me the option anymore and I can only load pictures as a bitmap thingy.

Dinner was really good and the play was WONDERFUL...a brilliant witty musical about the Algonquin Roundtable (Dorothy Parker, Robert Benchely, Robert Sherwood, Edna Ferber and a steady stream of all the glittering literati of the 20's. They had lunch every day of the decade at the Algonquin Hotel at the same big reserved table.)
Show is a HUGE success...I hope it moves to Broadway (but they'll probably do another sick revival of CATS or THE SOUND OF MUSIC for the tourists instead.)

Favorite Line:
I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy...Dorothy Parker

Loretta,
I like www.PHOTOBUCKET.com for my photo site. It's MUCH easier to use than PhotoIsland was.

Computer is running very well (and at 933 mhz is PLENTY new enough for me...4 years old)
They will soon release LONGHORN to replace WinXP anyways...I think the beta release is due next year, so maybe by 2006 or 2007 sometime I'll go for new (unless disaster strikes.)
I just like to keep things up-to-date and that's why I'm considering FLASHING the bios.
