Atkins ppl-How did you do it?

Hi I'm just wondering how everyone got to where they are. It'd be great to get an idea of what different people did.

1. How did you decide your goal weight? Did it change as you lost weight?

2. How long did you stay on induction?

3. When you started OWL, what foods did you add in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th weeks, etc.

4. What was your CCLL?

5. How much on average did you loose on OWL per month?

6. How long did you do OWL?

7. How did you start Pre-Maintainance?

8. How long did it take you to get to your goal overall?

9. How many carbs do you eat now and still maintain?

10. If you could do something different, what would you have done?

Hi Lark,

1. How did you decide your goal weight? Did it change as you lost weight?

::I recalled what I weighed when I was last considered "skinny". I then added 10lbs. I figure that's not a bad goal! However, a friend of mine who has been following a similar WOE has lost 80lbs in 5 months, and is now, frankly, gaunt, so maybe I can get to my "skinny" weight!

2. How long did you stay on induction?

::Two weeks hardcore...I've essentially been on a modified version since then....modified in that, say, today might be 20gm carbs, tomorrow might be 30gm, the day after might be 25gm...yatta yatta....Also, I didn't drink during the first two weeks....as for now - well!

3. When you started OWL, what foods did you add in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th weeks, etc.

::I guess my modified induction sort of qualifies as OWL. I added wine, a few more vegies, berries, low carb ice cream now and then, and more wine!

4. What was your CCLL?

::Haven't actually worked it out yet...

5. How much on average did you loose on OWL per month?

::I'm losing 1-2lbs per week now. I could probably ramp it up, but it seems like a nice rate to lose. I guess a 4lb loss every now and then would be cool!

6. How long did you do OWL?

N/A

7. How did you start Pre-Maintainance?

N/A

8. How long did it take you to get to your goal overall?

::Well, I'm hoping by end of February 2005!

9. How many carbs do you eat now and still maintain?

::I'm probably doing 20gm to 50gm per day, and I'm not gaining....

10. If you could do something different, what would you have done?

::If only I'd heard of low carbing 5-6 years ago......would have saved me 20lbs!

I've been maintaining for about 7 years now, and it's pretty much 2nd nature for me any more.

I didn't have much weight to lose, just 25 lbs, and once I went on induction the first time and lost 15, I just watched my carb intake so I could maintain that. Then I changed jobs and was more active, doing a pseudo-induction for the last 10 as well as the extra activity.

Since then, I just stay mainly away from sugar and starches, and eat pretty 'clean' through the week, then on the weekends I will splurge a little. I have a fairly high CCL, I figure about 80-90 will keep me in line, but the biggest thing is to never get more than a week away from your goal weight.

During the holidays it is tough since lots of companies bring in food for us (shipping dept, so many trucking co's like to tempt us!) and having that in our office is NOT conductive to eating clean. I do know the drill, and sometimes I fall off the wagon, but I do get back on and work it

1. How did you decide your goal weight? Did it change as you lost weight?

I just recalled how much I USED to weigh when I felt best in the past (which was 135), although now that I weigh 133 Im thinkin of lowering it to 130-125.LOL

2. How long did you stay on induction? STRICT for 2 weeks only, then went to OWL.

3. When you started OWL, what foods did you add in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th weeks, etc. In OWL I added a few nuts and berries, some LC 'products" ,including LC "chocolate bars" in moderation. I wasnt in a HURRY to lose weight so I didnt mind a slower rate of loss.

4. What was your CCLL? NOt totally sure yet BUT I think its around 40 carbs

5. How much on average did you loose on OWL per month? dont recall. I didnt weigh myself too often, just tried on my jeans THEY DONT LIE!

6. How long did you do OWL? Quite a few months. Cant recall exactly.

7. How did you start Pre-Maintainance?

8. How long did it take you to get to your goal overall? about 7 -8 monhts I THINK. ALso it just crept up on me soo Im not totally sure.

9. How many carbs do you eat now and still maintain? 25-45. It varies daily now.

10. If you could do something different, what would you have done? Excersized more. Im NOT an excersize fan.

1. How did you decide your goal weight? Did it change as you lost weight?

I didn't even start with a goal weight because I had no expectations. When the weight started coming off, I decided I would be satisfied with 120, but then that became 110 later. I ended up losing an additional 10 lbs while supposedly being on maintenance, due to a lifestyle change (college) and adding a lot more carbs to my plan I think.

2. How long did you stay on induction?

For really strict induction in the beginning, maybe a couple weeks. I have been on and off of induction throughout when things slowed down, but it didn't really help. Adding more carbs is what broke my stalls.

3. When you started OWL, what foods did you add in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th weeks, etc.

Nuts (including peanuts), strawberries, and peaches... cottage cheese, too.

4. What was your CCLL?

I don't know for sure, because I'd always approximate, but I'd say around 30-50.

5. How much on average did you loose on OWL per month?

There were a lot of months where I lost nothing... on good months, around 5-10.

6. How long did you do OWL?

Most of the time, I guess

7. How did you start Pre-Maintainance?

I started Pre-Maintenance when I realized that it was almost time for me to call it quits on weight loss, and how I wouldn't be able to maintain if I kept limiting the foods I was eating so much. I realized it was now or never to be brave, so I added food like fruit (all except for bananas), whole grains, sweet potatoes and other starchy veggies like carrots.

8. How long did it take you to get to your goal overall?

To get to 105 from 155 it took a year.

9. How many carbs do you eat now and still maintain?

As far as I know I can eat up to 100 and maintain, but I try not to do that everyday. Most days I eat around 80, according to Fit Day. The carbs come from coffee, cream, Splenda, fruit (fresh and dried), whole grain bread, veggies, sweet potatoes (soo good), and recently brown rice.

10. If you could do something different, what would you have done?

I wish I had been braver about adding foods considered untouchable on Induction and OWL... it took me a long time just to add low-glycemic fruit because I was terrified that more carbs would make me gain weight. Turns out they actually helped, and I wish I woulda figured that out sooner... would have made it a faster, less painful process .
