A friend of mine is PG and the dietitian told her to eat over 300 carbs a day. She is doing this and they also have her on the insulin pill. SO now they are saying her sugar is still to high so they are going to put her on insulin shots. Am I nuts to think she should cut her carbs some or does a baby need 300 carbs a day???? I told her to ask her DOc as I didn't want to give her advice esp since I don't have any idea.

The baby definately does NOT need over 300 carbs a day, but a lot of doctors still go by old school thinking unfortunately... I'd suggest she get another opinion... my midwife knows I'm doing modified LC and trying to stay under 100 and she said that's perfect! Especially for avoiding GD.

At my last doctor's visit I asked about the GD eating plan. I had GD with my last pregnancy and well, you usually get it again. So they gave me this handout with carb levels and meal plan examples and stuff. They were recommending a minimum of 180g of carbs! I almost fainted! Last time I was on the GD diet I ate maybe 100 or 110 g of carbs a day and I was still having to cut back a bit -- having just 1/2 a piece of whole wheat toast instead of a whole piece. I can't imagine eating 300g a day. Where do all those carbs come from? Rice? Potatoes? Ick.
