Maintaining Veterans on Saturday
Hi everybody,
Stabilized at 208# and it looks good. I'm going back on the wagon again tomorrow til Xmas since I am no good at this "2 drink a day thing." Maybe I'll get the after drinking whoosh and get to my goal of 205#. I think that will be where I want to be but we'll see...maybe 200 by Summer will be more appealing but I'm in no hurry. Julie, Have a nice trip and I'm sure all boats have a high speed connection for passengers (Just bring your password.) Barb, Something nicer about a pine box funeral and a covered dish meal. So much better than those $10,000 silk lined (doesn't chaff!) mahogany jobs and 16 vulgar stretch limos. Linda, Loretta, Shawnee, Ginny, Jacki...have a nice weekend. Nothing in the cards for us til Monday (Steak and Lobster fest!)

Good Saturday Morning Maintainers!
It is a lovely sunny morning, not too hot yet! Oliver is enjoying the mild weather and yard. He gets more time for walkies and lots of new smells to discover. I have to "fess-up" bin over indulging! I am out of control right now. I guess I am a carb addict, just one slip leads to another. Wishing YOU ALL a wonderful Saturday! SuSUN ![]() As you asked: Roger, the surf is wonderful, we had a day at the beach on Wednesday, the sun sure lifts one spirits. I enjoy this time to catch up on my reading. Loretta, Yes, we did see some remnants of the hurricanes, many roofs covered with tarps. The waiting list is long for the roofers! Lots of signs still down and partial signs remaining. The tree debris is all gone. DS said those were the obstacles to getting around, some lovely old Oaks have gone. How is lil' Leah? Has her little cold gone now? Sending her way!Shawnee, Glad to hear Chuckster still protects his home and he is lucky that he has YOU to protect him from all those nasty infections! Linda, Glad Gerard has some answers now and can begin to heal. DH still has itchy skin and milder pain from the shingles bout. Ginny, Those Kids o' yours would thrive down here! I told DS about your venture. He is so busy with Christmas orders and installs right now, he has no time to breathe! Which is good I guess after the slow down from the hurricanes. Wavin to y'all! SuSUN! ![]() Last edited by SuSUN : 11-13-2004 at 07:47 AM. |

Susan,
So sorry I forgot to mention you in my post...that "first thing in the morning before coffee" typing can be sketchy and that one hour edit done me in...DO have a nice weekend and continued good weather. No sneaux here yet...we are still waiting for the first 32° night. Hey gang, I need some advice. I've bought salt cod and am soaking it for the next 24 hours to remove excess sodium. Have any of you EVER tried any recipes using it. A jillion years ago I had it in some kind of cream sauce, maybe baked with scalloped potatoes, but my memory is foggy. Any recipes appreciated...low or high carb makes no difference as long as it's yummy. On the way to the A&P I ran into the floor guy. I am FINALLY getting my foyer patched up after waiting only 11 months! ![]() Weird Computers: I finally attached a USB OPTICAL MOUSE. Since I have a USB KEYBOARD with a USB outlet so I attatched it there. Well, weird slowdowns in typing and in a few games occurred more than occasionally where I push a key and it takes a second or two to register. I was going to switch back to the PS-2 roller ball mouse, but first I attached the optical to a port in my 4 way USB splitter...works fine now. I guess the mouse was sucking just a little too much power that the keyboard needed. Like I said WEIRD! I probably should get a powered splitter in the future. HI to all
SuSUN glad you checked and are enjoying that warmer weather. Zip can't give you any advice on that COD. I usually just bake my fish after I melt some butter in the pan. Paprika and some pepper. Glad you FINALLY got that floor done. We have lost our paint job for this year I think. The weather has not been cooperative. Too much rain. Will look forward to it next spring. Don't know what to say about your wierd mouse. I'm still using my original mouse from 1999. Linda I'm not sure when we will talk again about the new boat. Dh is somewhat of a procrastinator. It will be a FISHING boat. Glad you like that cheesecake recipe. I hardly ever make it myself because of the fat content. It was good though. Did your weight get back to normal? How is Gerard. Ginny good to hear from you. Glad that floor is completed. What's next? The jury is still out on the cialis. Shawnee no I have not gotten around to making that yogurt. I guess I am satisfied with the 5 carb yogurt. Funny the store did not have any vanilla though. That is my favorite. I add some cinnamon and chopped nuts to it. Boy, Bob is taking a time away from home. You will be happy to see him. DH and I have not really been apart much. Tomorrow I will go to a wake for a former co worker of mine. Her husband died suddenly at age 56. A massive heart attack. Plus they are having a tea for our local surgeon who is retiring at age 70. What a wonderful person he is. He has done lots of mission work in Africa. I will get to see Leah and may take her home so her mom can man the refreshment tables at the doctors tea. HI to the rest of our veteran maintainers. Hi Y'all
Enjoying my last days as a deserted wife; I've sure gotten lazy ....just reading, shopping, and putting up with the Chuckster. SuSUN, lovely to see your Post! YAY for you and lil Oliver, enjoying the Good Life! Hugs to Oliver...hope he doesn't overwork his nose. Zip, shall I send the Chuckster to smack that power-sucking Mouse into submission??? So far, he hasn't shown interest in my mouse, but has been known to help me type. Totally agree on the pine box; graceful workmanship... simple lines. Bob insisted on a $4,600 contraption for his Mom, "cause it matched the one Dad had." Who's he trying to impress anyway... The Cod...how bout sauteeing it in olive oil til golden, then baking it smothered with your fav sauce? GINNY, if ya do a search using "sugar Alzheimers" ...it may prove helpful. ![]() Thanks for the collective .and right backatcha.Hey to Montana, Jacki, Loretta, Barb...Fav Lurker too. Back later. ShawneeEDITED: Hey Loretta...guess Vanilla is the most popular, so it disappears fast. Enjoy your time with lil Leah. Last edited by shawneesioux : 11-13-2004 at 11:02 AM. |

Hi everybody,
Just popping in for a minute before we go out to dinner, with a quick stop at my son's house to let Niko out. They have rented a suite for all 5 of them at the Regency Hotel with plans for a room service brunch in the morning. Must be nice. Roger, Congratulations on that 208 About that cod. My grandmother used to make a white sauce, butter, flour, milk... and add it to that along with peas and boiled potatoes. Unfortunately I hated cod fish so never ate it. Love my Logitech optical mouse but don't know what to tell you about yours. I just plugged mine into the back of the computer and was good to go. Susan, Boy you must really be enjoying the wonderful sunshine and surf. How we all envy you. Those carbs will grab you if you aren't careful. Guess we are all addicts. Ginny, it must be such a relief to have that living room flood finished. Was it a very difficult job? Aww Loretta, poor little Leah. Those ear infections are so painful. Hope the specialist can come up with the solution. Procrastinator, eh? Must be a male trait. Shawnee, enjoy your last day as a hunting widow. Did the guys get anything? My brother called last week and got a huge mule deer buck up near the Idaho border. Unfortunately he wasn't able to get that elk yet. Waving to the rest of the gang. Later. |

Congrats Zip, on the 208!! 200 is the goal?
Loretta, enjoy taking care of Leah!! More people it seems are dying younger with heart problems - but I guess it's always been that way. My grandpa died at 55 and that was a long time ago. Linda, did your snow disappear yet? We are having a lot in the mountains and other higher elevations. Is Roger's itch gone? Shawnee, isn't that so funny? It matched !! Like who's going to see it? I agree Zip that simplicity is grace! I detest these ostentatious funerals with a waste of money! Mine will be so simple, no one will know I'm gone for weeks -- until I don't post on several boards! Shawnee, how long have you been a widow? Most of these hunting trips are for pleasure - you know. If they don't kill something in the first few days - maybe they are playing cards. Susan, sounds like you had a fun time in the sun -- when you get back to the northern cold, you are get rid of those carbs!! Waving to Ginny, Jackie, and Julie!! Barb ![]()

OHHHHH CRUDDDDDDDD!!!
I posted a big longggggg post and then lost it trying to edit it!!! Cussin and stompin Now I have to do it all again. damitall So! here it is: Hello All....I've been in to read but not to post. I'm a ------LURKER!!! I'm in the same boat as Susan---off the wagon and out of control. Not much inclined to do anything about it yet. When I am I have the lowcarb 'tools' to make it work. I had good news wednesday. Since Sept 17th I've been filling in an open position in my school kitchen. The lady that left it took a job with less hours. Her DH is retired and she wanted to cut back on work hours herself. Until they could post the job she left (30 work days--union rules) I've been doing it. I put my bid in for it and wednesday was told that it's mine! My house is almost finished being sided. It is looking so good! We are using the hardy plank siding. We even have gingerbreading at the peaks and under the front two windows. Like a little doll house! My neck and sholders are setting up so sore and stiff...like I pulled something. I don't know if it's from pulling up old plants from the flowerbeds or trying to haul my big old doofus dogs a$$ into the shower today to wash the stink off. I had a double handful of scruff, and was pulling her into the shower--while she was putting on all four doggie brakes....it was a battle of epoch proportions but I got her into the shower stall. I won I won I---owieeee owieeeee--won? hahahahaha Some ibuprophen will do the trick...I hope! Someone was asking for the recipe of the soup I took to Carol. Here it is: (warning---recipe will feed a big crowd) Jacki's Minestroni 1 1/2-2 lbs good ground beef 2 rolls Jimmy Dean hot sausage brown this in a big stew pot drain the meat fat. add 2 or 3 tbsp olive oil add next ingredients and saute: 1 large onion diced 1 red bell pepper diced 1 green bell pepper diced 1 cup or so diced celery 1 diced good size fresh jalapeno (optional--but good) 1 or 2 tbsp minced garlic 6 or 7 beef bullion cubes then add: 1 28 oz can of diced tomatoes juice and all 1-2 cups red wine or red cooking wine 4 cups water or so 4 or so bay leaves...depending on size 1 tbsp dried basil (crush in your hand first) 1 tbsp dried oregano (crush too) bring to a 'high simmer' and add 4 or 5 diced up carrots. While that is simmering prepare: 5 or 6 fresh zucchini diced 1 head of cabbage diced When carrots are getting tender add the zuchini and cabbage. Take to a low simmer and cook until the cabbage and zucchini are tender and all ingredients are married. (does that make sense?) I think this recipe is great for low carb dining unless you eat a gallon of it. We love it. You can also add other stuff to it: kidney beans, noodles, rice....what ever you like. Make it your own and enjoy. ![]() Last edited by JackiCWa : 11-13-2004 at 04:39 PM. |
