I'm having baby at home
I'm having my next baby at home (I'm due next July) and I'm curious who else has done it and what your experience was like. My first one was at a hospital and now I'm ready to try something new. Please give me your stories, whether good or bad.
Thank you, Dax |

I think you've made a great choice! I had my daughter at a stand alone birthing center since I know for me a home birth just isn't practical (home stresses me out and I rarely can relax there), and the idea of a hospital birth was scary... I think anyone who can give birth at home is lucky!
Have you already found a midwife? Are you going to have a doula as well? |

midwife
I'm just having a midwife. I will also have my husband and mother present (and who knows who else). I am very excited.
You were lucky because here in Kansas we don't have birthing centers. Nor in Colorado where my mother lives. D. |

I was in Houston Texas when I had my daughter and I had to drive 2 hours to Austin to find a midwife and birthing center that would take me... out here in Arizona there is one, count 'em ONE, stand alone birthing center in the whole state! Personally I think they should be much more available!
You must have a great relationship with your mom for her to be there... I have a hard time even just talking about the pregnancy with mine... I could NEVER let her BE there while in labor! We just don't have that mother/daughter dynamic!

I just had baby Oct 5 and almost had a home birth. I was in labor at home for 20 hours, pushing for 2 hours, when my midwife saw a lot of meconium in the amniotic fluid. She recommended that we go to the hospital because if the baby had aspirated any meconium, this is something the midwife couldn't deal with at home. So the actual deliver took place in a hospital. My baby didn't aspirate any meconium but she did swallow some and had to have her stomach pumped right after birth. I wish it had all happened at home but still it was a great experience and I wouldn't ever do it any other way. Laboring at home was so comfortable and intimate.
