Sunday on Magical Maintenance Mountain
Hi Gang, sorry I haven't posted for a couple of days. Busy shopping for DD who will be in Thanksgiving and we'll do her Christmas then.
This morning I'm taking advantage of the time change back to slow time, as I get ready for Church. Finally back down to my sig. weight after the anniversary blowout LOL. Went shopping for a marathon 7 hrs. yesterday, that should help in the exercise department. Gonna try that faux sweet potato casserole. Just wanted to post about a new old fashoned oatmeal recipe I came up with involving an egg (Like my Mom used to make) Break an egg in a cereal bowl and whisk it a bit. Add the oatmeal, Using 1/2 a package of regular instant oatmeal (about 2 tablespoons). Don't worry it makes a full bowl. Whisk that into the egg mixture and add about 1/3 cup water. Whisk again. Microwave for 45 secs on high, whisk again. Microwave another 45 seconds and whisk and then let it set. Add butter, cinnamon and cream. Carb count is 10 grams minus 4 fiber. I just perfected this recipe this week and have eaten it twice with no bad results. Do you think I should post it on the recipe board?

Mornin' y'all!
Vikes play NY Giants today.....hoping to continue our winning streak! Venison in crockpot cooling now in preparation for bbq sauce. Looks like it cooked up nice and tender overnight Turn, good for you concocting that oatmeal dish up! Not much for oatmeal here, so I'll let the others give their opinions.... I've come up with a few modifications to different things I like, but I'm not a really creative one--I leave that to Shawnee, Linda, Loretta etc. Now if I only lived closer to one of y'all cooks, I'd be able to TASTE TEST!!! My best lc throw-together I've come up with is using the asparagus stir fry (from walmart, frozen section), Moores meat marinade, cream cheese and parmesan cheese. Dump veggies into nonstick skillet, splash on some Moores, cook on medium until tender/crisp. Drain off most of the 'juice' and then add cream cheese (I use the whole brick, but I LOVE cream cheese) and stir until CC is melted through. Slide the whole mess onto a plate, top with parmesan and scarf down. Shrimp or grilled chicken breast chunks is good in this too if you want more protein! In the pkg of veggies, the whole thing is 20 g carbs, less 10 g fiber, so this is a pretty good legal meal. Hi to all, off to lurk for a bit!

I always like oatmeal also but, when hit goal last year I went over board with trying so many new things - my weight suffered.
So now, I'm more conservative. My FIL always made oatmeal that way - with the egg. Ginny - you and I are on the same page with the idiots who are in charge. My biggest problem is that this idiot is the son-in-law of the supt. Talk about NEPOTISM !! I can hardly wait until this election is over and we can return to regular dumb commercials on TV and my answering machine won't be filled at home when returning from work with that "crap". It's almost as if we can't think for ourselves. My mom (82) said they called her to take her to the polls and she said -- No, it's right around the corner, I can do it. Football today -- need to get my favorite jersey on!! Barb

Hi gang
Not much on Oatmeal either but it you put that in some cookies then we are talking. In fact I do use oat bran "flour" in my cookies. Maybe I could leave the oats as they are instead of making them into flour. That's a thought. Congrats Becca on getting down to that sig weight. Ginny that dish you came up with does sound creative. So see. How is the floor reconstruction going on there? Is the job done. Hope your Vikings do you proud today. Barb the closer we get to that election the worse it is getting. Give me some good old food commercials, mcdonald, wendy pizza hut etc. They usually come on right at supper time when we are hungry. Enjoy the game. Looks like fishing is cancelled for today due to rain, but DH will enjoy those games too. KNOW WHAT YOU GET WHEN YOU GOOSE A GHOST??????? A HAND FULL OF SHEET!!!!!!!! Have a fun day!!!!! Hi Y'all
Rainy again this AM...what's new...that's what makes this NW area lush and green..(and mildewy..LOL)_ However, THANKS again to the ones who answered my SUN request; yesterday afternoon was gorgeous. Unfortunately, just as I started my outdoor grubbing/ Spirit-rejuvinating process, had drop- in company....and NOT the ones who lend a hand at menial chores. To go back a few days, about that Chef's flour: I still have a couple # of the origional 10. Using it sparingly as an addition to various baked recipes. Worked well in the Pumpkin cookies. There's now a new bake mix being touted on the Help Board, which is not made with Soy flour (Carbquik)...however, it does contain a "small" amount of soy oil. ![]() From their site: Does Carbquik™ contain trans fatty acids? No. Carbquik is made using partially hydrogenated soy oil, which does contain trans fats. This is used in small amounts in Carbquik and does not contribute nutritionally. According to FDA guidelines, Carbquik™ does not contain nutritionally significant trans fats. Loretta... .....looks like you are feeling better!!!Ginny, GrandPup Burk will be ONE on or around Nov. 8...GBrat figured backwards using limited available age info when she adopted him, and decided to share HER B-day with him. He's so sleek and trim, a bundle of bouncing energy, and just thrills my heart to watch him in action. He has only two speeds: full throttle, or asleep. Only Pup I've ever seen that can frown and smile simultainiously (he has that Pit wrinkled forehead, and a constant happy, slobbery grin.) I'm impressed with GBrat's training and care of him; carefully managed diet (he views apples as toys/snacks), and tho he's almost as fast as a greyhound, her command stops him on a dime. He's probably about full size now, about 55 lbs. OK, I'm thru bragging now...can ya tell I adore him? ![]() Barb, BINGO !! I'm so sick of ALL the elections crap on tv, and the implications that I would make important decisions based on them. My Ballot was in the mail the day after I rec'd it. Having worked for 2 Gov. agencies (St. Employment Office, and as a VISTA volunteer)...I cringed at the crap I saw. My SIL had forewarned me that I was "too honest" to tolerate that type of employment....five years of banging my head against the powers that be proved him right. Becca, yeah..the Recipe Help Board can always use simple, good recipes. (Thanks for sharing.) Thing is, ya never know what kinda reaction you'll get: some may be all over it positively, others may give ya flack for it being "instant packaged'' instead of the slow cooking or Irish type. I have noticed its much more liberal there than it used to be. Better qualify it with the heading MAINTAINENCE LEVEL. ![]() To ALL, have a content Sunday. Shawnee |

![]() Hi Shawnee, yes I am feeling better and trying out the photobucket finally. Anxious to see if this will work. Sounds like Burk is well on his way to being a healthy adult soon. I like those 2 speeds. There has been alot of talk about Carbquik but I will use my own almond, and oat flour for now. I stay satisfied and try not to eat too many baked items. Loretta |

Hi all!
I might hold up on posting the oatmeal recipe for awhile. Maybe I should buy some steel oats, rolled oats or Irish oats and try that. Trouble is, who has that kinda time to put into just making one's self a bowl of o'meal. LOL! But cookies? Now you're talkin'! |

Having a bad day. My best friends DD, who lives in Florida, is in the ICU and my friend is on her way to be with her. She started bleeding internally and they found a (supposedly) non malignant tumor on her kidney. She's had 3 units of blood so far but almost died last night. The DD, DH is in the middle of moving out as they are separating. Can you believe it? My friend has already lost her son about 10 years ago. Why does it always seem to all happen to the same person? Anyway, I've been pretty upset all day.

Oh Julie, I'm so very sorry.
Please keep us posted.Becca, I just may give some oatmeal a try. Been maintaining for 6 years and haven't even thought of trying that. Irish Oats are my favorite. Thanks for the reminder. Ginny hell, I'm no cook but I play one on TV. Actually I used to love to cook but haven't had my heart in it in a good many years. Just the necessary stuff.Your stir fry sounds great and I may give it a try with chicken or shrimp. Yummm. Barb, I'm with you on this election and all the BS that has gone with it. My God!! I'm so F#cking sick of it that I could literally scream. Hope you enjoyed your football game. Loretta, love that little Halloween joke. As much as I used to love oatmeal, I never did like oatmeal cookies. Give me some old fashioned Toll House and a quart of milk and I was in 7th heaven. I've been using Villagephotos and Fotik for picture hosting and am pleased. Just can't figure out a way to edit them there. Shawnee, HA!! I read that about carbquick too and thought BS!! partially hydrogenated oil does contain trans fat. Who are they trying to kid? and BLANK the FDA too. Grrrr Wow Burk is a big boy now isn't he? Send your GB here for a month or two to help train Dakota. He is a bit on the wild side but does listen to me. Not my DD or Gerard, but me. Funny how they are, eh? Yeah, I worked for NYS government and saw far too much waste and inefficiency. We have too much government involved in our lives already and it's going to get much worse. Susan, Thanks for the picture of Ella and her Bumble Bee costume. She is just adorable!! I changed all the clocks before I went to bed last night so it was a nice treat to sleep in so "late". LOL Roger, zoom...zooommmm. Hope you had a good day. Off to catch up around here. |

Hi again
Loretta.......... If it walks like a duck..... And she is a darlin' lil duckling OH, those first few steps !Wonder what she will call YOU? Is Leah's older Sis (Brittany?) still thrilled to have a baby sis? I've been satisfied with the Bucket. SuSUN, I can see your beaming smile from waaaay over here...that lil bundle of bumblebee joy is so huggable! Montana, probably Dakota has figured out you are the Top Dog of the family, and respects ya! (are G and DD pushovers?) ![]() B was always so inconsistant with our critters, they would only humor him if it was worth their while. This pic of Burk was taken bout 5-6 weeks back; he's added a little weight and leg length since. http://photobucket.com/albums/v179/s...k10months3.jpg ZIP...zooming in and out? Are ya doing an experiment on yourself with BP meds? Ginny, hope your days off were good. to all the Pups.Had a cool but sunny afternoon..was great! My major chore outside today was giving Bob a haircut...no clean-up needed. How's DH holding up to all that home repair? Julie, so sorry to hear of your Friend's DD's many troubles. Blessings and for that family.Jacki, love the look of your new house siding. I have some frozen pumpkin cookies if ya need a Gourmet coffee break Today, halloween, is GBrat's SECOND Anniv...time flew, huh? What I remember most about that day is breathing a sigh of relief, once I got those cakes delivered. Shawnee |
