Thursday, Oct. 28 Maintain MT., magnificent

ones or what ever the heck we are calling ourselves these days. LOL this old brain just can't keep up. So WHO are we? Where are we?

Anyhoo, I'm off to the dentist soon for my semi annual clean and sharpen, then to the grocery store.

We haven't decided just yet on the car we are going to get. Either a Honda CRV, Toyota Rav or Subaru Forrester, well maybe.

Julie, I was ready to install the service pack too but heard someplace to wait until the bugs were worked out. Don, the computer guy, confirmed this too.

Shawnee, 70 degrees, sunny and an afternoon romp around the yard with Burk Pup sounds like heaven to me.

I hadn't heard of using coffee filters to clean the windows. Humm. I'll have to run that one by my DIL who's family owns a plate glass company. She always recommended using the cheapest paper towel I could find.

Waving to everyone. Back later.

Hey all,

Still warmer than normal here, and I'll sure take it! Rain off and on, but I still got to see part of the eclipse at work (just as I was fixin' to leave at 11 pm). The beef we got was a whole critter, free range. He weighed in at @ 750 lbs live weight, so we probably got around 400 lbs of meat. Our average is a little above the norm of about 50%, but they didn't give us a packaged total. We will be set for a while now! One of the things I'm so pleased with when we get our beef is that there are NO steroids or growth hormones, these guys eat grass, hay and are fed out with standard crushin', so we are getting some good clean meat. And, there is virtually NO grease to strain out so we don't lose a bunch to the dog dishes!

Here's a funny story about beef tongue for ya: back a few years ago when we butchered, my gf (they have the 150 acre farm where we used to have our own cows at) told us to be sure and get the tongue as she was going to cook it like her momma did. Sooooooo, we got it and turned the package over to her. When she decided to cook it up, she called and told us to come for dinner that night and we'd all have the tongue, she raved about how good it was when her momma made it and to bring our appetites. Fast forward to THE DAY......she had set out the packages to defrost, and upon opening them and retrieving the 2 tongues, she almost tossed her cookies (this is rare, as she is a nurse and has a STRONG stomach). It turns out that the tongues had HAIR BALLS on them that were not washed off prior to packaging! EEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWWW!!! Needless to say, she couldn't stand the sight of it and promptly made one German Shepherd dog VERY happy! Don't remember what we actually had for dinner that night, but it WASN'T tongue!

All is well here! Hope everyone is well and content......time for a bit of lurking before starting the day

Just don't call us "late for supper", Linda. I can't keep up with
our name changes. What ever works if fine for me as long as I stay in the Maintain Lane. on getting your teeth sharpened. I like that one. Hope you find what you are looking for at the grocery store. I was surpised to find some vanilla DaVinci today. I am going to quit the Diabeta sweet after I finish up what I have.

Ginny now we know "where the beef went" The beef we get is from the Amish and usually grass and hay fed also. It sure has a better taste than the store beef. We are warm here too but rainy for the next few days. NO fishing unless we get some cloud breaks. I don't think I EVER want to eat tongue.

Shawnee glad that sunshine arrived safely. You needed that.
Boy Bob's truck must be in the Classic Catagory. I think that's neat that it's still going. 400,000 miles. Hope that Honda will do that. Thanks for taking a peek at the kids. They are a handful for DSon. He coaches the soccer team for Beth.
I think we need more cold weather before those fruit flies go away. I have had my share of those critters too. THey want to eat my salad.

Had breakfast with Leah and DS this morning. She has started to make the cutest faces.

SuSUn thanks for the pictures of the Christening. I was trying to find your Disaster in law. Thanks.

Taking DH for thumb check up today. He says it has been hurting him lately.

Later, Loretta

Mainlining a magnificent vintage on Magic Maintain Mountain ... (well not really drinking, but I HAD to get the word vintage into it.

Hi pals,

Pot Roast was really delicious yesterday...I'm sold on the pressure cooker method!

Ginny, what is the tariff for a 750 pounder, including all costs?

Linda and Julie,
I'm glad I don't have to decide about SP2...Ginny, Shawnee, and I don't get too many changes with Millennium.

I bought some pasta toda and I saw some LOW CARB...DREAMFIELDS brand. How in blue blazes can they advertise a product as LOW CARB when the product has 43 grams carbs/2ounce serving (and 4 grams fiber). Even the Barilla I bought has 42 grams and it's certainly HIGH CARB.
I've heard of taking LIBERTIES but that labelling is just a full blown LIE!

More theater tonight...they called Bob in to work today til 4:30 so he'll come home and we'll eat here and go back into Town later.

Today the NYC subway IRT line is a CENTURY old...the coronary arteries of NYC! They are running a couple of the antique cars (quite posh, actually) but it's hit or miss what you get.

edit:
Checked on the DREAMFIELDS:
Quote:
Using a proprietary method that wraps protein around the carbs in their pasta, Dreamfields Foods has successfully achieved the concept of "net carbs" and glucose control all in one package
Now I;ve heard it all...anybody want to buy a nice BRIDGE!

re-edit: I LOVE tongue...but I can't AFFORD it!

Good afternoon -- Maintain Mountineers!!

Oh boy, that story about the tongue makes me want to puke! I wish we could get better beef here also. I hate buying it from the store.

When I was growing up we always raised our own beef and had it butchered for what we wanted. Well, one time my sister Donna became friends with one of the calves and named him "Boo-Boo. Well, life was good until myself and two other sisters sat down to dinner (a while later) and said: "Are we having Boo-Boo tonight?" It doesn't pay to become too friendly with what you butcher!

Loretta, I bet Leah has some really nice expressions -- it's such a great time!! Lucky you, to spend so much time with her.

Linda, I vote for Honda. We've always had one -- great mileage, etc. but not a CRV.

We are having PTC tonight until eight -- it makes for a real loooooong day. We are having a pot luck tonight and I have made a fantastic salad.

Later,

Barb

Can I join you?

Hi! SmileyAmy told me about the thread...Thanks Amy!

My name is Kim and I am expecting #2. Like others that have had micsarriages in the past it's been both scary and exciting at the same time. I've had 5 miscarriages, the last being back in June and then I got pregnanat right away without a cycle. You could have bowled me over with shock. But evidently that was the magic pill because this one stuck.

I have an 11 year old dear daughter who will be 12 when this little bundle of joy comes along. We just had our BIG ultrasound today and it's a GIRL!!!!! She was sucking her thumbing and bouncing all around! It was so exciting! I will be 19 weeks tomorrow.

I've had a wonderful pregnancy so far. No morning sickness or anything. I did get sick one night when I waited too long to eat dinner, but that was it. I've had some round ligament pain which I bought a maternity support belt that has worked wonders.

The only problem I'm having is finding maternity pants!! Because I am larger and just happen to be petite I'm not finding anything!!! I have found one pair of jeans which were not petite and I have to cuff them up and they were a whopping $40.00 bucks!! Any suggestions on where to find petite larger sized pants would be appreciated.

Hello to everyone and congrats to all the preggos and everyone trying.

Amy, hang in there and keep your chin up! I'll keep you and your family in my prayers.

Kim

Back for more

First of all Hi Ya Kim. Umm, I think you want the daily pregnancy thread on this maintain bb and not this one, although you are welcome to hang out with us old folks.

Barb, LMAO about poor "Boo-Boo". My grandmother used to raise pigs, goats and chickens and told us NEVER to name the critters that were to be used for food.

I'm surprised that you can't get good beef out there in ranch country. Wow! Don't any of the ranchers sell to private customers?

We are going to check the gas mileage on the CRV as well as the Rav.

Roger,
"Mainlining a magnificent vintage on Magic Maintain Mountain" Oh I LOVE that one.

Well darn it all. Now I'm thinking about a pressure cooker, but I'm scared. With my luck I'll blow the thing clear through the roof. If I can find a cow to buy ( after that freezer) , you can have the tongue.

Yeah, the Dreamfields has me wondering. I tried it several months ago and tested my blood sugar before and at 1 hr intervals after. It spiked my BS 90 points the first time and 30 points the second time. It's good but I'll not eat it very often at all.

Loretta, our wally world carries DaVinci SF vanilla and almond only but I don't use it any more. It's less expensive to just add splenda and vanilla to water. LOL Diabeta sweet is rather harsh on the intestines.

How about some updated pictures of Leah. I bet she is just darling.
Hope your DH's thumb is OK.

Ginny, OMG hair balls on the tongue? are you sure they weren't the "Rocky Mt. Oysters"? LOL I came close to eating some of those at the "Testy Festy" in Montana because they smelled so good, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it.

You and Loretta are fortunate to be able to find that beef. I've been looking but not as hard as I should. Sheesh, we are right next door to Pa. farmland and should be able to find some.

Shawnee, What's your DH's secret to keeping that truck going? I bet our Toyota would go that long if the damned body didn't rust off.
