SUNDAY Magnificent Maintain Mountaineers
Hi Y'all
While surfing Alternative Meds sites, ran into this Info that made me think of Loretta and SuSUN's DHs, and their battles with Shingles........ For a quick home remedy for blistery dermatitis's try painting the area with Maalox and letting it dry. I've used that on patients with everything from Chicken Pox to Shingles. The Magnesium and Aluminum Hydroxide act as a desicating agent and dry up the lesions. Also Collodian Oatmeal baths work well. Also, from the Main Lobby, this was thought-provoking: Cholesterol-Lowering Can Be Bad For Your Brain |

Well...that cholestral thing is interesting.
Good morning Carol. Hey! We have our new kitchen window in now. And tomorrow the siding work begins. We have a knowledgable neighbor that is a builder doing it for us. By the end of the week it should be done! Not painted tho. But that's ok. We are going with the hardy board siding. Hello everyone! Rainy cool fall day here. How's y'all? |

Hi Shawnee and Jackie
We have a beautiful day here in KY. I have been out washing and waxing that Honda before winter sets in. DH has gone fishing with his condom on his "thumb". I made sure he could get his jigs changed and helped him thread up a new fishing pole he bought. He has a needle threader which will work great. He wasn't sure how to use it but I got him going on it. I even made some Peanut Butter Fudge. I left out the cocoa and added some cinnamon about 1/2 tsp. It tastes great. I don't think I should make any more. TOOOOOOOOO tempting. Thanks Shawnee. Not only for the recipes but the hints. That maalox is a good idea. I liked the article about the cholesterol. MY DB on statins has a very low cholesterol. He looks bad and is frequently ill. I'm not aiming for a low cholesterol just a decent one. What ever that is???????? Jacki will that be the last of your home improvement projects????? Any more in the wings. Will you be making a tulip pot? I am waiting for my bulbs to show up. My pot is half ready. Zip I am wondering about the cd writer. Evidently it does not work the same as a floppy. I wanted to add recipes to the cd I burned from my recipe file but ???????? I tried to drag and drop but no go. I do have a INcd (Nero) program, but I need to use a CD R-W dics in order to use it like a floppy. If I am understanding the instructions right. Of course the salesperson said the cds are all the same, but I think he is wrong. You need a different one for dvds. Help>>> Time to go and help the fisherman clean his catch of the day and bring him a beer. Loretta |

GRRRRR! I just lost a long post. Damn it!
Anyhoo, Laid back day around here today. I did manage to get to my DD's for a hair cut. Shawnee, Thanks for the information on using Maalox. I may just try it on a rash I get occasionally on my back. Thought it was dry skin but it's lasted since last Jan. Give the Zucchini a try in the Mousakka. Just slice it in rounds about 1/2 " thick and brown on both sides. Someplace around here I have an article about low cholesterol causing increased suicide risk and cancer. If I can find it, I'll post it. Jacki, wow you are moving right along on your remodel. So you are leaving the siding natural or will you paint later? How about some pictures? You are fortunate to have an experienced and willing neighbor to help. Loretta, Now you've done it. I MUST make some fudge. I think I would add chocolate to mine though. Pass me a beer and I'll help clean those fish. ![]() Waving to everyone else. I'll be back later. Edited to add article for what it's worth Roger, LOL. http://www.second-opinions.co.uk/cho...ol_myth_4.html Last edited by LoveMontana : 10-24-2004 at 04:41 PM. |

Hey all,
Shawnee, interesting on the cholesterol. It's understandable that extremely high chol. is not good for you, and I believe it when they say that too low is bad too. There has to be a happy middle ground, and so I'll stay with my 212 and low triglycerides. I also feel that so many of the meds commonly prescribed now will do more harm in the long run than good. Not a pill taker here for the most part. Jacki, wonderful on your kitchen! I know you're gonna be so pleased when all this remodelling is DONE!!! Loretta, you sure baby that car wanna take care of mine too? LOL Good for your DH to get out fishing again, not too many more gorgeous days left before the cold weather comes in.Well, all, off to lurk a bit. Hi to our MIA's...

Hi gang,
Well. the $100 worth of ZIZANIE has mostly dissapated but what a bother with blowing and venting over and over again...Yeah, Linda, carpeting with foam pad in the bedroom ala BICK SMELLY WICK! Shawnee, Gotta LOVE what some people do with statistics. From the link you pasted: Quote:
I look forward to trying Maalox on my next outbreak of facial dermatitis...shhh, I SEEM to have it under control with something called BACTROBAN 2% that a neighbor gave me...fingers crossed. Loretta, I suspected you would be disappointed with that burner...I tried to warn you off it. Firstly, only a CD-RW can approach the way a floppy works with the read and rewrite capability. Second you need a special program (different from audio copying) that runs it right, how can I say this, that makes the drive work like a hard drive. I use something called ADAPTEK CD WRITER. A data disc is very different from an audio in that you can copy a musical CD and play it in most players but a data disc can only be read with one of these programs. I copied some stuff onto a disc and took it to a friend to read on his plain vanilla CD drive...NADA! Even to make a CD-R (unerasible) with data, you need the special "Direct CD software." Re-read your Nemo stuff...I'll bet there's something on the topic and something on the CD they probably gave you with the drive. When you get it working right it really is all drag and drop just like any drive to another. Wonderful for saving pictures. I know this may look a bit of a muddle but the gist is in there. Barb, Indian cooking is quite complex but for a good peek into what it's all about, here's a good peruse: http://www.gadnet.com/recipes.htm My last cholesterol was a TC of 163 with an LDL of 96 and an HDL of 58. I have the newest ones in the mail...I'm hoping for even better! Jacki, I wish I had a place to remodel...I LOVE doing stuff like that. G'nite kiddies. Thanks Zip for the info on the CD
I have that capability with the Nero CD W that I bought. The guy at the Wal Mart did not know the difference in the cds nor did I. I need CD RW instead of CD R which is what I bought. My son talked with me this evening too. He will trade with me for my CD Rs. He does a lot of music recording. I might want to give that a try too to get some good country music. I think I will be happy with it once I get the right stuff going. I think I have a good program with lots of advanced stuff that I will never get figured out. Waiting for your results too on your blood chems. I will get mine in March when Medicare kicks in. Dh caught 4 crappie but 2 got away. He is worn out this evening. Trying to watch the baseball game but is fast asleep. Linda that pb fudge is just too good. I ended up eating it all. It just made a sandwich size, thin amount of fudge, maybe 1/4 inch. Once I started I was hooked. I will not make it again for a while. |

Hi again Y'all
Loretta, which recipe did ya use? Too good, huh? So were the Pumpkin cookies, I had 2 for brekkie.Yahoo for your DH, bless his crappie-catchin' self. Did the condom do its job? Montana, please ship your DD to me, I'm shaggy..and skunk stripe is starting to show too. My younger DGBrat graduates from the Hair/cosmotology school in Dec...each cut she's given me is HER version of my cut, not mine...damn, I'm a good sport! ZIP...amazing, huh? MIND over Matter; please pass the sugar pills. My family is sooo weird: some are hypochondriacs, just mention a disease and they immediately develop the sumptoms. Others will let no physical maladies slow them down. Speaking of statistics, both political parties have really mangled every number available. Drug Companies are the wizards with their statistics...don't think I'd buy a used car from them ![]() Ginny, I hear ya on the pills...research ANY of the Rx's and the possible side effects scare the hell outta me. Jacki, inside and out, your house is coming right along. Great feeling, huh? Geez, time to feed the ol' Finn. Shawnee |

OK, glad to be joining ya'll!
OrchidCactus, "My guess is you have quarter horses with that name? Brings to mind Barrel racing, but ? Just jump on in here and tell us about yourself!" You are exactly right about the quarter horses (we have 3) and barrel racing. I have a high-point trophy but haven't done it for awhile, I still enjoy trail riding. Loretta, I live about 45 mi. from Louisville. Um, about myself. Well I'm 47, been married 28 yrs to a wonderful guy and my DD is in the Marines, already a veteran of Iraq and will be deployed to who knows where in Dec. About the diet, I had been unhappy about my weight for many years and it seemed to be spiraling out of control (could it have been super-sized fast food lunches?) I tried weight watchers on my own and got bored when it didn't render very quick results. One day I overheard a conversation that someone had tried Atkins and lost so much weight so quickly it scared them. It was like an epiphamy (sp?) I couldn't wait to try it (this was one year ago today). I got on the web and found the Atkins site and started the diet 10/25/03. The book came in the mail 3 days later and I read it about a dozen times and followed it to the book on induction. I did really well, but from time to time would fall into cheats and succumbed to binges and somehow have managed to get back on track the next day. I went from a sz. 16 pants to a sz. 6. However, this weekend has been kind of bad for some reason and tomorrow I need to go back to induction for 3 days. I can't explain why, but hopefully not too much damage has been done. I have spent too much $$ on clothes to gain back any weight LOL! Sorry for the book! Glad to be accepted into this gang.

Hi Y'all
Color me a Happy Nana...just confirmed I'll be "doing lunch" with younger DGBrat (the Hair gal mentioned above) and oldest DGBrat ( the mom of Burk, the PitPup.) We have a new Appleby's, gotta christen the joint. SuSUN, if ya get a chance to check in, hope your Family Day was teriffic. Loretta, that particular recipe sounds like a very heavy Splenda to other ing. ratio. Was it really sweet? Remember the NO Bake Cookies? Hmmm, thinking this recipe (with more p-nut butter) could be used for them...add in some coconut and oats...xanthan.. Maybe use part DaVinci to cut some carbs. Jacki, great piccies. Yippie for you, going thru the blood, sweat, and tears: the PAYOFF !! Happy for ya! Hey Turn (please give us a NAME to use) Thanks for the "book" of info, its helpful for us to get acquainted. Our Ginny knows her horse stuff, huh...picked right up on ya! Congrats on your ONE year anniv. tomorrow...WTG !! We are proud of our Vets here, and don't mind saying so. Size SIX, WOW! I weigh 128-130, and usually wear 10's ..a few 8's. ..call me ThunderThighs We LOVE pics, so if ya have any to share... ![]() OK, y'all...post your portraits so TURN knows the kind of folk she's getting involved with ![]() Shawnee |

LOL Shawnee, Post our photos? Gotta go find some.
So you have a hair dresser in the group too, eh? My DD does her thing which isn't exactly what I had in mind either. I feel like a sheep that got too close to the shears. Sending her off to you ASAP. Turn, the one thing I have learned since starting low carb in 1998 is NO SUGAR or WHITE FLOUR ever. Hang in there gal. You can do this. Jackie, YIKES!! That was some HUGE job you and DH took on. Bless you. It's going to be a spectacular home. Barb, you have that right. We are all going to die some day so let's just enjoy the here and now. So you like your Honda? We have Toyotas but are looking at a Honda small SUV or a Rav4Toyota maybe a Subaru to buy this fall. We do need 4WD or All wheel drive around here in the winter too. Loretta, I would probably eat all of that fudge too or if not, Gerard would find it and gobble it all up. Roger, I just spent far too much time on that Indian recipe site. YUMMM. God you have wall to wall in that bedroom So how are your poor feet? Hope you didn't get cut to ribbons from that shattered mirror. Can't wait to see your latest blood lipid numbers and wishing you the very best. Ginny, congrats on those Vikings winning. Not a pill taker here either. Those meds scare the CHIT out of me after a few really bad reactions. Where the heck is Julie? |
