SATURDAY on the SLOPES of MAINTAIN MOUNTAIN

Hi gang,

We had a nice night out: a Moliere play (THE IMAGINARY INVALID)- a silly farce with some good sendups of the medical community and a NEW Indain restaurant find. Cheap and Delicious (called PANNA.)

Fiddled with my BP dosage by adding some old nadolol to my cozaar and thiazide: 90/60 with 54 BPM. A bit of OVERKILL, wouldn't you say? We can stop THAT real soon.\

Comacast came in with a REGULAR cable line yesterday. We haven't a CLUE what their pricing structure will be but it seems we will have the right to go with them or stick with RCN. I;m keeping the Verizon DSL in either case, even though the Comcast will have cable high speed. I'm sure they won't beat the $29.95 I'm paying.

Ginny,
THat pale violet Cattleya is a real beauty. I'll bet you hated to break her up. Blasting flowers so beautiful even brings tears to MY eyes and I'm nearly 1000 miles away! BUT bringing whitefly or spider mites into a greenhouse is far worse!

Linda,
Good go on the computer. I hope your fireall makes a good fortress. You NEED one with cable moda??(modems??)

Oh,
Thursday we wasted time and money on TEAM AMERICA. I LOVE South Park but the guys REALLY missed the mark with this one. Puppet work was MASTERFUL but that can't get you through 90 minutes of a Stevan Segal type BORING action movie.

Gorgeous weather but a crisp 45° dawn.

Later mountaineers.

Good morning all of you on the slopes of maintain mountain!! Does this mean you are skiing already? They did open two places here in CO last week. Lots of nice snow in the mountains and of course on the roads going over them. Some friends left here for Denver and it took "forever" to get there - especially when they close that freeway over Vail.

Looking forward to a nice sunny weekend! The leaves are going fast and still freezing at night.

Zip, what is Indian food? Are talking about foods and dishes from India? What are they composed of? Some friends have tried a few restaurants serving Indian food -- but we never have.

Going out for a walk -- be on later

Barb

Hi Zip and Barb

We have rain today and warmer temps. Tomorrow is suppose to be nice and sunny. Dh can get back out to fishing. His thumb with the skin graft looks like it is healing nicely. We saw the doc yesterday and got a look. Another large bandage and I will change the dressing on Monday. We see the doc next Friday again. I bought some condoms for DH to wear over the large bandage. I think it will work so he does not get the dressing wet. The finger cots are just not large enough.

Zip I have added 2 new items to help control bp. One is folic acid, 400 bid and the other is cinnamon. I sprinkle the cinnamon on various foods, (peanut butter). The cinnamon is also suppose to help lower cholesterol. I am crazy. My bp is great in the early morning 110/78 and late in the evening but the in the afternoon it climbs, 160/90. I remember my mom trying all kinds of stuff to lower her bp. (garlic) Can you look on your Puritan catalog and tell me when 3 for 1 that sale ends. I might order some lecitin to help my supply make it last for the next big annual sale.

Barb do you ski? I am too cold natured. I did try it once when I was younger but spent more time on the ground. It was pretty cold up there in Chicago at the time. We have not had a hard freeze here yet and the flowers are still blooming.

Shawnee I am having a hard time trying to decide which PB recipe first. Eeene, meene, mino, mo????????????

Hi Y'all

Rainy and cold here; sure making up for record-breaking NON-rain Summer.

Loretta, WTG with DH and condoms ! ...which brings to mind the story of a Health group that handed out condoms in a third world country to help control diseases and overpopulation...the health workers demo-ed usage via the thumb show & tell method . Follow up visit found NO improvements ..disease and pregnancies still rampant.........and the males happily displayed their thumbs, encased in tattered condoms.

Sorry, Gal...you gotta pick your own choice.
Cinnamon and walnuts are BIG for all kinza health stuff.

Zip, glad you were feeling up to a night on the town.

Barb, you are blessed to live in a magnifico scenic wonderland.

Today is (was?) my DD's B-day, so GBrat and I will get together for lunch to celebrate it, and her. Kinda bittersweet, but by now, mostly sweet.

To all coming in later, HEY !

Be back later

OH ! the Pumpkin Cookies hit the spot! Nothing like a cozy oven-warmed kitchen with spicy fragrances ...and homemade cookies on a cold day.

TurnNBurn

So glad to have you on board! I am sure the mountainers will have some battle plans before too long!

Hello All,

Had some server problems and then the company are here. Our son arrived last night for the weekend. He is enjoying the cooler temps and the colourful trees. It is a bright sunny day today but cool. He says he loves it!

Off to get my colour and hair cut today in readiness for the big day tomorrow. I have my outfit, all winter white with a peach top with a tiny fur collar and diamond type buttons. I wanted to be in light colours for the Baptism. The reception afterwards is at a gorgeous hotel with 30 of DD's friends.

I think it is going to rain a bit tomorrow but what a wonderful celebration to Thank the Lord that Ella is here. I can finally let my hair down and enjoy her.

So glad to see that ALL are back in the fold!

Roger, I hope those slopes are not the slippery one! I sometimes feel that I am on that one.

Have a wonderful weekend!

SuSUN!

TurnNBurn!!! No plan now for the holidays. Just stick to LC mostly.

Roger, we have Comcast cable here but probably wouldn't be the same price but ours is $44.00. So your's is cheaper by a lot. Stick to it!
What are you doing fiddling with your bp meds? Isn't that a little foolish?

Barb, we too got lots of snow in the mountains last night. They predicted 4-10 inches but didn't hear this morning how much. Snow level down to 4,000 ft. It's only 46 here this morning at 10:20. I do love the stuff but only for a day or 2.

Loretta, glad DH finger is healing well. Funny about the condoms!!

Shawnee, thanks for the pb recipes. Dang, I'll have to wait to try them, trying to get a few lbs. off before my cruise. Sure look good though. Nothing better than PB and chocolate. Also love Pumpkin!! Hmmmm PB or pumkin? Love them both!

SuSun, sounds like a grand affair that baptism will be!!! Wish I could peak in. Your outfit sounds so pretty!!

Off to bazaaring today with gf. I'll probably get it out of my system in one weekend and be done with them!

Turn aka M.O.M.

I live near Paducah, about 30 miles east of the big "city"
Glad to have you join us. Where are you in KY? I am a transplant from the Chicago area. Been here about 20 years now. There are lots of good ideas here on this web site for holiday recipes. Help yourself.

Shawnee on that story on the health care use of condoms. Pretty cute. Glad you and your DGB will celebrate the life of Kaci. Enjoy the memories. We have tons of rain too but warm temps.

Susun hope you gets tons of pictures for our viewing. Enjoy the festivities. You will look fabulous.

Hey all,

TurnNBurn! Glad to have you join in! My guess is you have quarter horses with that name? Brings to mind Barrel racing, but ? Just jump on in here and tell us about yourself!

60's today and rain in the forecast. Had a beautiful sunny day yesterday, nice and mild. I'm sure enjoying the warmth while it lasts, dreading the winter and coveralls season at work once again.

Shawnee, HUGE today for you and DGD! Enjoy your lunch with her and all the good memories you have. Get in a puppy snuggle or 75648 with the Burkpup too! Our gang sends their love as well.......

Zip, yes it was hard to blast all those gorgeous blooms, but most were starting to fade anyway. I'm glad we got the plants when we did and DH could do the de-bugging outside. The new 'chids are currently in the cactus side of the gh somewhat quarantined until we are sure the treatment received has done the trick. It's cool enough for them to be in there (no cooling in that side!) and still warm enough at night. Glad you're feeling better, has the cough subsided enough to get off the meds?

Barb, on your temps. In MN we've been there done that, but I sure enough don't miss it. I've been cross country skiing a couple times, but never got the nerve to try downhill. I figure if God wanted me to slide down a hill on a pair of waxed boards at a high rate of speed he would have made me with REALLY BIG FEET!!! LOL I know it is good exercise, but I'd rather do cross country with less opportunity for injury (yeah, me saying that and having a couple half broke horses......)

Loretta, good deal on your DH's thumb healing up. I bet you had fun buying the prophylactics! Didja get the glow in the dark kind? LOL! I know he'll be happy once he gets to ditch the bandaging and can get back to fishing again. Lucky man to have YOU taking care of him.

Linda, sounds like you have a keeper there in your 'puter guy. Were you able to take notes on what he did? Memory installation isn't tough, DH did ours, and it makes a huge world of difference in the performance. We went from a 128 to 512 a couple years ago and this baby does so much better.

Julie, what kind of bazaars are you going to? Seasonal, crafty type? They are really big up in MN but not so much down here. We used to go to the different craft boutiques. I would look around and enjoy, but rarely spent much. I'm not a seasonal decorator, just find things I like to have up year round.

Susan, sounds like you're all set for Ella's big day! Hope she takes to the christening well My goddaughter slept through the entire thing...not really what we were expecting, but it was nice to have a calm child for it! Don't forget pics!

Ok, motormouth (motorfingers?) better finish for now. Y'all have a content day, be well and happy!

Holy Cow, everyone is here already. I slept in late and have been gagging some lollies waiting for my daughter to call. She is supposed to trim my hair sometime today.

Still trying to figure out this new anti virus and firewall. They look similar to my old ones but the menu is different so I can't find some things

It's sunny and mild here and all the leaves are showing some spectacular color. I could take this kind of weather all year.

Roger,
Funny how they installed cable right after you got your DSL service. Cable may be a bit faster but will cost considerably more.
Road Runner is $45 here but worth it for us.

Let's hear what you had to eat at the Indian restaurant.
One of my former co workers was from India and would bring in some very interesting "dishes". She was a Hindu but would sneak off to Burger King every so often.

TurnNBurn. We are happy to see you here with us old folks, well everyone is "old" except our baby, Ginny.

Tell us about yourself.

Barb, you live in the best skiing country in the world! Do you ski?
We did for years until the snow snakes got me one day at Greek Peak. The little b@stards pulled me down and destroyed my left knee. God I miss skiing but alas, no more.

Loretta, Isn't it strange about BP? Mine is usually very low in the morning and afternoon and shoots up at night. The Greeks put cinnamon in most of their tomato and cream sauce meat dishes. Boy it's good. Give it a try.

Good idea putting a condom on that thumb. I sincerely hope he continues to heal well.

Shawnee, Enjoy lunch with your GB and each and every loving memory of Kaci.
Time eases the pain but it never completely leaves.

LOVED the condom story. OMG I guess some people need very "detailed" directions. Something I would buy tickets to see. LOL

SuSun, You are going to have a wonderful weekend!! Don't forget to take lots of pictures to share. How much does little Ella weigh now?

Julie, enjoy your day bazaaring. We want to hear all about it later.

How long does the snow stay on the ground in your area? Living so near the water, it must not last long.

Ginny, just how cold does it usually get down there in the winter? Do you ever get below 0?

It must have been difficult to blast those beautiful blooms but one can never be too cautious. LOL Guess we need to start calling you Dr. Ginny. You give such wonderful care to those "chids". Hope they can get out of quarantine soon.

Later gang.

Hi Y'all...again

Went to Lunch early, beat the Sat crowd. Great place, was one of my DD's favorites. Better clarify: EVA was my DD's name...Kaci is her DD (my oldest GBrat). Then did a tad of shopping...one of the Gift boutiques was having a 75% off $Sale, moving the business...BOY, was that fun! Kaci got $200 of fancy Xmas decor goodies for $45. Had just moved into their house at Christmas last year, is ready to do it up proper this year.

WELCOME, MOM...Turn- having another KY lady is cool
We are the world's most nosy bunch here, so tell us about yourself.
See that you are about to celebrate a YEAR of LCing ..CONGRATS!
I'm one of the ol' Broads here, headed toward 60....very opinionated, but trying to be civil as needed
On the Recipe Help & Suggestions Board, there's lots of Holiday recipes.
We post some here too as we find or invent something worthwhile.

Ginny, thanks for the poochie-smooches. I'll take all I can get.

more later, I MUST do a little something productive...LOL

Hi, Turn and Burn...welcome to the mountain

Loretta,
Three for ONE sale ends 11/18/04...plenty of time. I do Folic Acid 1200 mcg./day in a single dose...have for YEARS (battles homocysteine an arterial inflamer.) I'll try to punch up the cinnamon too...I even have a full POUND of stix in the cupboard.

Linda,
We did Mulligatawney Soup (spicy lentils) folowed by a vegetable samosa, a banana pakora and an onion fritter (all deep fried) (appetizers).
Entree was lamb curry with basmati rice and usual accomaniments (daal, onion relish, coriander sauce...)
Dessert was a teeny dip of homemade mango ice cream...served with spiced tea (coriander CINNAMON clove you name it)
All for $6.95 each...can you BEAT THAT PRICE!

OK today I found a like NEW full bed foundation that a neighbor was discarding because he was moving. Mine was SHOT with springs breaking right and left. I boutght it in 1966 and it's had 4 different mattresses but I hung onto it because it fit my back JUST SO after I hack-sawed 3 of the center springs to sag just the way I liked it.
WELL, we dragged it in and stripped my bed (a full) and in the process knocked over a MILLION pound mirror that was propped up on a chest just laying against the wall. BOOM onto us and into a zillion pieces <I know, I know>. But WORST of all it destoyed a 4 ounce bottle of ZIZANY which I think was a gift from Mary Magdalene herself.
After an hour of cleaning teeeeny glass shards, we are blowing fans into the bedroom trying to get the SMELL OUT...halfway between a hareem and a GAS CHAMBER!
Upshot is the new foundation is like a ROCK and unless I decide to offer penance for my profligate life, I could NEVER sleep on it...so OUT it went, back in came the soggy old ragbag and all was for naught...kiss one afternoon GOODBYE! OY!
(I HOPE we can sleep in there tonight!)

Me again......

LOL Zip, I just had to laugh at the mis-adventure, but you DO have my sympathies on the fragrance! Not to mention the glass shards......hope you have a good vacuum! No bare feet in there for a while, y'hear?

Linda, we've been here almost 13 years, and so far it has not gotten below 0. I think the coldest it's been was around 6 above and that was the first winter we were here.

Shawnee, glad you had a good lunch with DGB! How fun for her to find decorations she's been wanting, with the be$t part being on $ale!

TurnNBurn, no battle plan as of yet. Usually I just wing it, and do my best to behave during the holidays. I have a pretty good tolerance for occasional carby treats, but I do try to stay away from sugar as it now makes me HYPER as well as fat . And, I do all the cooking here, so DH has to just deal with the lack of goodies!

Oh Gee Shawnee, I knew your DD's name was Eva. Sorry I was in a hurry posting. Please forgive me.

Cool on the bargains Kaci picked up.Wow! So what did you get?

OMG Roger, I'm so sorry about all the work you two made for yourselves and the SMELL! OY!
I know you have wood floors in your place but are they in your bedroom too? God I hope so. Watch those poor bare feet.

Now you have me drooling for some Indian food. YUMM. I could fiddle with a menu and make it suitable for low carb. well to a certain degree

Ginny, 6 degrees isn't bad especially when it gets much colder here. Sigh, I wish my asthma hadn't kicked up in Tennessee. I would move there in a heart beat. At least you have seasonal changes unlike some of the states further south.

TurnNBurn, sorry I was in a hurry before but no battle plan for the holidays at all. We just adapt recipes for pumpkin pie and chocolate treats to low carb, make our own cranberry sauce using splenda, use guar gum to thicken gravy etc. It's really pretty easy and so guilt free.

Running back to my book and waving to the rest of our gang.

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
2 tablespoons chopped parsley
1 can of crushed tomatoes
1/2 cup white wine
2 egg whites
2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese

Sauce
3 tablespoons butter
(Use guar gum to thicken or add an extra egg yolk)
1 1/2 cups cream or half and half
2 or 3 egg yolks..beaten
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
dash of nutmeg and dash of cinnamon

Melt butter. Stir in guar gum , stirring constantly. Slowly stir in the cream or half and half. Return to heat and stir until the sauce thickens. Add Nutmeg, cinnamon, salt and pepper into the sauce. Blend well.

MONTANA...please..no need to apologize...

....just set me a place at the table when that (YUM) Moussaka is ready

Thinking we seldom see decent Eggplant here (usually soft and bruised)...so maybe sub in zucchini sliced lengthwise..?

What did I get? A huge hat box,,,75% off $21.99 ..and a precious rabbit I'll give as a gift for the friend who built the log house, its in the pastels she wants for her guest room. (again, 75% off $13.99, so both for under $10 !!)

Hope we get some pics of lovely SuSUN and lil Miss Ella.

AW, ZIP...BUMMER !! All that work and disaster too! Blame Ginny, she chased MURPHEY ('s Law) away from her house...guess he paid y'all a visit.
How's Phonecia?

Loretta, lil Leah is stepping, how old now...going on 11 months?

I'm beading tonight, seed beads around a chrocheted bookmark...damn, used to do it well years back..NOW those beads seem as small as pepper grains..and my hands feel as graceful as bear paws. Youth IS wasted on the young. This getting old crap is ..well... getting old.

Is NO ONE excited bout the World Series ? ! I'm betting on the Cardinals, just because I'm from Missouri stock.

A Content Sunday to ALL.
for a weekend, our ol' Board is HOT!
