MVM WEDNESDAY

Good Morning My Friends,

A GORGEOUS day weatherwise satrting at 68°, crystal clear and pollution-haze free.

Here's the ibuprofen-aspirin interaction in a nutshell.
Aspirin, even very low dose, quickly and PERMANENTLY binds to a blood platelet enzyme's site to PERMANENTLY inactivate the platelelet for it's 10 day lifespan. This prevents THAT platelet from EVER being able to participate in clot formation (heart attack-occlusive stroke.) Unfortunately, since 10% of our platelets are replaced every day and 10% active is enough to clot we need aspirin every day.
Ibuprofen also knocks out the platelet's clumping by binding to a different site but very TEMPORARILY...the rub is that when it binds it prevents apririn from binding to that platelet. Ibu's protection lasts from 1/2 to a full day.
So, you can get PERMANENT protection, if you take the aspirin 2 hours BEFORE any ibuprofen, but not 2 hours AFTER. HOWEVER, researchers found that somebody taking 3 ibuprofens, 600 mg. spaced out during a day, which is a common arthritis dosing, will STILL block the effect of the aspirin administered the next morning:, BUMMER!
The jury is still out on the antiinflammatory effect of jiggling the two and inflammation seems ALSO to be very important in heart disease. I guess we'll hear more as the research unfolds...I just KNOW they will try to get everyone on frigggen' PLAVIX so I sniff all this data for Bristol-Myers, Squibb scent which I KNOW is lurking around.
Acetomenophen (Tylenol) has NO effect on platelets nor inflammation.

Loretta, maybe that high morning dose of IBU (600-800mg) is the way to go with aspirin 2 hours beforehand??

Linda,
I'm faithful wiith Vitamin-E (40 years) and Fish Oil (5 years) but they really don't touch the platelets, they use different routes as does heparin.
Doesn't your SYSTEM TOOLS, DEFRAGMENT on Win XP still give the choice of STANDARD and THOROUGH defrags? It did on Windows ME, Win 98 and Win 95?

We are going to bike to City Hall and see if we can dig up the DOMESTIC PARTNERSHIP applications...no time like the present. If either of us kicks the bucket the other can get his hands on all the loot without state inheritance tax (15% of all assets from dollar ONE for non-immediate family heirs...even on the total of JOINTLY owned property! )

Shawnee,
Didnt I just get a mailing that you were off on a hiking tour of Oregon? Or was that mail a consequence of taking my OLD mail into my newly set up OUTLOOK EXPRESS? Poor Zip's confused

I read a fascinating article in the TIMES yesterday about Lake Missoula (Montana) explaining that during the last ice age it had dammed up with ice and held as much water as Lakes Ontario and Erie put together. When the ice dam broke, as it did periodically, it sent a gargantuan torrent of water racing for the Pacific and made most of Northern Idaho and Central Washington what it is today. They arte hoping to get a LONGGGG walkway permanently protected along the route of the water flow...let's hope they don't find oil or there will be plenty of Halliburton rigs instead.
I'll see if I can link the article.

Bye to all.

Edit: Aha, here it is...I'm sure you Westerners (and especially Linda) will find this fascinating:

Good morning to all.

Roger, No the system tools doesn't give an option. It's just a thorough defrag. The disk clean up is the same and got hung up yet again. Unfortunately there are no other options. I guess I'll have to call that computer guy after all.

Bummer on the aspirin and ibuprofen. Guess we are all caught between a rock and a hard place.

The Geological history of the NW is fascinating to say the least. My cousin, in Missoula, is a Geologist/Hydrologist and talks about Lake Missoula.
I really don't think there will be any drilling for oil in that neck of the woods because all of the Forbes "fat cats" have bought most of the ranches and canyons there for big, beautiful mountain homes.

Well, it's about time you and Bob got the paper work. I'm surprised that you haven't done it sooner.

I'm off to let Dakota out and do a few things around here. I might have to put another coat of stain on the deck railing. UGH!

Gotta think about dinner too. Humm, maybe just some chicken on the BBQ.

HI to all

Thanks Shawnee for the pic and the pot dimensions. I could probably use the bigger pot too. Your tulips are just so grand. I want some too. I did put some packing peanuts in my pot I planted the mrytle in. Will try for a pic soon.

Roger let me see know about the asa and the ibuprofen and the tylenol. I give the tylenol in the am along with his asa. He does not get his ibprofens until about 4. Then at bedtime he takes more tylenol. Too many ibus will have a blood thinning effect. Now Linda has me worried about the liver effects of the tylenol. Dh is more than a social drinker. If I gave him aspirin for the arthritis more blood thinning effects. Guess he might have to just toughen up.
Roger I sure hope that you and Bob can get something together for your DOMESTIC PARTNERSHIP. IF not that can you at least get some sort of paper work on a partnership as in the business type. One lawyer (divorce) told me that marriage is no more than than, a partnership.

Linda you sure have been busy since you retired. Hey what happened???? I find myself very busy in retirement. Mostly doing things I enjoy, but I still feel like I am on a schedule to get them all in.

Julie hope you get to check in soon and that things are working out.

Barb enjoy getting back in the routine of school. You probably enjoy your "job" for the most part. I liked being a nurse and was happy I chose that profession.

Hi to Susun, Ginny, Jackie and the lurkers.

Loretta

You guy's have been great for your patience. Love you all and will post later.

Back Julie, we sure missed you and hope there is light at the end of the tunnel for you.

Loretta,
Read this about alcohol and Tylenol please
http://www.postgradmed.com/issues/20...0/draganov.htm
It's been in the news for some time now.

You asked on the Golden about SpyBot and Ad-Aware. Yes you should run them about once a week ( both are free) They find spywear on your computer and let you get rid of it.
Run Ad-Aware first and follow up with SpyBot. Sometimes it catches things that the Ad Aware doesn't get. Just use care when you quarantine things.
Some are low risk and need to be on your computer. Just rt. click on each item and see what it does before you delete them. You can also go back into the quarantine "room" and retrieve things that you may need.

LOL I don't know why I'm so busy. Guess I'm just getting to things that needed attention and never got it.

Off to fix dinner.
Later.

WE DID IT- WE'RE DOMESTIC PARTNERS

On a hunch I brought all our "evidence", joint accounts, leases, insurance thinking MAYBE we could get it all done in one swell foop. Well the gal, Karen, at City Hall took care of everyhting including notarizing the application for us. We got lovely fancily printed certificates and all. Total feel $38. (We tried the adoption route a decade ago to avoid the inheritance tax and the lawyer said it would cost $5000 retainer with no guarantees...we said BYE...this was MUCH better)

Dinner and a show tonight to celebrate...gee, feels like we should go to NIAGARA FALLS!
We asked the lady how many since it was legal (July 28)...we are #45 in Jersey City, equally split between guys and gals. Gee, not many for a town of a quarter million!

Had a lovely big bowl tripe soup at a Polish restaurant right near City Hall (Bob had mushroom barley!)

Linda,
THANK YOU for that excellent POSTGRADUATE MEDICINE Reference site...I'll be there often.

I get ONE headache that hits me in the back of the head and lays there all day that absolutely needs acetamenophen 1000mg , nothing else, so I take that dose about 10 times a year and get 10 years out of a bottle of generic acetamenophen. I'll be careful that it's NEVER near any period when I'm drinking. Also my INDUCTION headaches were of that kind (never again) as is the Dark Chocolate banger.

Hmmm, no STANDARD-THOROUGH choice on defrag with Win XP. Eeeccch... I suspect a flaw in your hard drive. If you have Dell they sent a diagnostic disc called DELL DIMENSION RESOURCE DISC that has a diagnostic...do you have it? If so, I'll try to remember how to run it. It diagnosed my bad hard drive after an ENDLESS scan disc (my only symptom)

Julie,
Welcome back. I hope your life falls back into a peaceful place.

Loretta,
NEVER worry about the blood thinning effect on a man over 50- HE NEEDS IT...but stop your hubby's daily Tylenol. Actually the problem with taking the IBU with the ASA is too LITTLE blood thinning!

CONGRATULATIONS ROGER AND BOB!!!!!!!

Linda, how do you know what to get rid of and what to quarantine on AdAware? Even if I right click and see what it is, I'm still not sure what it is or if I need it. Do you do a full scan or what? Never sure what to pick when we have these options. Sure not very computer saavy.

Julie,

After AD AWARE runs and generates a list, I RIGHT CLICK on any item and say SELECT ALL and DELETE. I've never had a problem trusting its judgement...it KNOWS what's spyware!
If you keep quarantining, all those little files will clutter your computer forever, besides who ever goes back and restores a quarantined item?

Thanks Zip,
I just did that, I clicked next and it looked like it was still quarantined and then deleted them. It's so comfusing but it picks up much more than Spybot does. I hope I'm doing it right. What about the TAC rating? Some say 3 up 10 but all say low. hmmm

Congratulations Roger and Bob!! It's about darn time, eh?

So why don't you two go someplace fun for a few days to celebrate? There are plenty of places not too far from you.

I have a diagnostic disc here someplace but would be scared to run it. LOL Maybe I'll dig out my paper work and have a look see. If it finds the problem, does it tell you how to fix it?

Oops, I always quarantine for a couple of months to be sure I didn't take something out like the spell checker for OE..LOL did that once when I was deleting things at once.

Julie, Roger answered your question. Good luck. Just read and be sure you can do without those things.

Later.

Hi Y'all

What a change in the weather this last week...from roasting to wearing sox !

Hey Zip, thanks for the link.

BIG CONGRATS to YOU & BOB ! Dang, y'all sure managed to get it taken care of easily and cheap! Excellent idea, going prepared with all the validating paperwork.

LOL, the E Mail I sent y'all re the trip was sent about 10 days back. It was Barb who'd previously gone to OR.; I went to Mt. Rainier.

Glad to see this discussion re Aspiren and Ibuprofen...Bob has the 800mg Ibu.

Julie, glad to see ya back
Love the pics...actually, I think the one of you and Bo is the sweetest, most natural one I've seen of you...you look happy with your FurBaby. (and lookin' TINY too)
Hoping you are turning the (positive) corner with family relationships.

Ginny, hope all's well in your world, and you're finding time to play with your new Hobbies. Do your FurKids get along with your cousin's crew?

Loretta...I WANT YOU to have happy tulips too! They sure are an "upper" on a cold Spring day, especially after a dreary Winter. Would love to see a pic of your Myrtle. Hope DH continues to improve.

Hi to our busy SuSUN...can't call her Lazy Susan, she's one on the go Gal Hope lil Ella is continuing to thrive happily

Montana, how did your turkey dressing turn out? It is kinda cold here, maybe time to do some baking..and dressing sounds Yum.
Still thinking bout ordering some of that "other" flour?
Hope you get the puter Scan thing cleared up soon.

Barb, bet you're glad (after your busy day) that ya did the Prep work, huh?

Jacki, can't wait to see/ taste your new homemade Relish...
Isn't it great that our lawns are getting greener?! Starting to look forward to Sunshine again; enough of this rain already.

More lil Country Fairs coming up for us, one on Friday, another Sat. Maybe I'll get lucky and see a mule. I do love to get them "talking"

Shawnee
