SATURDAY for MVM

Hi everybody,

Ohh this weather: AWFUL. It can't get more humid and the feeling of mid 80's and FOG is ghastly. Like being in a clothes dryer at the start of the cycle! Thank Heaven for the fake interior environments we can generate (at a price well worth paying.)

Linda,
You must be getting the storms now, but our haven't come through yet. I look forward to an exit of this FRONT...it's really been in place for a solid month!

Laptop is a hoot. Once I charged the battery, all works well. It also feels like familiar ground because it's almost identical to my first puter in 1996. It's a Pentium 150 mhz (I had 166), with Win95, and 1.5 gig drive (I had 1.2.) Problem is 80 Mb. ram whic slows things down and the poor thing is fully filled (it shipped standard with 32!!!)
The mouse"nipple" is taking some adjusting, but there's a whole OFFICE 97 on it so I can certainly write THE GREAT AMERICAN NOVEL while travelling (whatever THAT is?)
PCMCIA card is a hoot (at 33.6 kbps)...I know how to plug it into the puter but not a clue how to hook to phone line??? There's a bug slot that holds the CD-Rom that pops out (much fiddling to get THAT fart out) and is replaced by the included Floppy Drive.
I'll put some games in...wheee, Pacman and Tetris on the fly (I don;t think it can handle my new kick, "CHICKEN INVADERS"!.

Bob doing his THING today (in the coming rain )...I've got a TON of Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis to catch up on, and a GOOD solid gym day. I bought some lovely spinach and might try my hand with leftover chicken to make a "Chicken Saag," an Indian Spinach based curry that everybody loves.

I hope y'all have a nice weekend.

Jacki,
I LOVED the ...what's it called? Hey. Rose, what do you call those funny stories...oh yeah...JOKE!

Take care.

Screamed from the horses: "THE REPUBLICANS ARE COMING; THE REPUBLICANS ARE COMING" <nailing garlic garlands around the dooor this morning>

Good Morning Roger and All that follow!

It is a peaceful Saturday morning, no rushing off to DD's; or work yet! I really love the quiet on the weekends now. DH and I watched a movie last night and it really relaxed us.

DD and DSIL have treated me to my hairdo today, my colour, highlites, cut and blow are all overdue. I had no time the past 6 weeks.

Yes, she is 6 weeks old tomorrow. I feel much better at leaving DD to manage now. She has a huge home to clean and a newborn, cooking, cleaning and errands have really slowed down since Ella takes most of the time.

Linda, I think I will be going over half days on my days off. Contemplating cutting my days down at work too. Not raising Ella, just becoming the extra pair of hands for DD.

Barb, Glad ya got some terrific bargains. I too wear, those dressy office outfits for work. I have'nt worn a Nsg. uniform for ages.

Shawnee, BACK! Sounds like a fabulous trip that you had, paddling your canoe!
Glad your weather is breaking for you. How are your plants and flowers surviving?

Roger, Good for you! Sounds like that fiddling paid off for you!
Enjoy your new found treasure!
Let us know how the Chicken Curry turns out, then post the recipe! Pleeeeeze!

Jacki, What a wonderful smile your DGS has. I bet he lights up the room with that one!

Loretta, Hope you have time to check in today.

Waving to Y'all and hope to be back later, off to get my hair done for 11a.m. Roots sure need that colour! LOL!

Hi to all

Zip what a fun toy you found and it has taken up lots of enjoyable moments for you. It might just be a keeper, maybe it was not meant to be left where you found it. Maybe it was just forgotten, unless it was in the junk pile. Can you identify the owner by what is on the notebook? Just curious.

Shawnee back from that neat camping trip. Thanks for the pics. My Dh worked at a few of the federal parks. Springfield, Lincoln's home and the Indiana Dunes state park.
Congats on that RAIN in the forecast. We have had some here too. I got a crepe myrtle for 5 bucks, which I think I will plant in a big pot. It is the red color.

Jackie thanks for the pics of DGS. Did he aim that hose toward the open kitchen windows? I remember my sons chasing each other around and doing just that. Your pics reminded me. He is a doll and your flowers look great.

Barb you are set for school now. Great bargains too. All of those new shoes, Imeldia. WTG.

SuSun sounds like you will be getting a "normal" life back soon and one that includes little Ella. What a very nice gift to get your hair done. Enjoy the refreshed look.

Linda did you get those baseboards washed. I sure can't remember when I did that. Do we have to include that in the chores? Every once in a while I touch them with my feather duster. I forgot to tell you how much I enjoyed seeing Nicki's pics. He sure is growing. Thanks for sharing.

Hey to Ginny off busy packing and shipping or trying out that t-shirt idea.

Hi to Julie if you are lurking here. We miss hearing from you.

I don't think DH is out of the woods yet. Last night he got the chills and he had a little elevated temp. (99.2) this am. Not hungry today, so far. I've got my good eyes on him.

Hi Y'all

OH, NO! Montana is adding another chore for us, washing the baseboards?!?! Does running the vac attachment over them (every six months) count??

Loretta, so sorry to hear your DH may still be running an infection (?)...poor man. Bless his heart, and yours too. He must have some great memories/ stories from working in those Parks.
Love those Crepe Myrtles, but they don't do well here. Gonna give us a peek at it?

Zip...cool toy, and GREAT price on it ...can't beat Free.
Got your torches/ lanterns ready? (One if by land, two if by sea...)

Hey SuSUN....gonna get all gussied up and ravishing today? Good for you!

Got some of the pics on PhotoBucket...we had a discussion awhile back bout Huckleberries; well, I found a bush by the road, but the tourists or bears had bout picked it clean...still a few orange stragglers hanging on..(look hard)
And a good shot of Oregon Grape, also edible

Hi everyone,

Just taking a quick break to check in. I just made some cranberry sauce and am going to make up another batch of ice cream. Chocolate/almond this time. Can you tell I just love my new "toy"?

Roger, the storms passed through here during the night and early morning. Now it's a cool 63 with some sun trying to peek out on occasion.

Boy! you made out pretty well with that lap top. Wish I knew something about them but unfortunately I don't. My son has a new Dell laptop that I have played with on occasion. He does have wireless INTERNET access but OY is it difficult to use that weird mouse thingy.

Oh please, please share the recipe for your chicken/spinach curry.

Susan, It's good to hear you will cut down on work hrs. and start enjoying life.
Does your DD have someone come in to clean? It's really a huge help especially for new moms.

Humm, thanks for the reminder to color hair. I'm getting my "skunk" look. Maybe tomorrow.

Loretta, gee your DH is sure having a time of it. It does sound like there is a bit of infection someplace. Do you think you need to put in a call to the surgeon and let him/her know?

LOL NO you don't need to include washing baseboards in your chores. It's just something I inherited from my mom and German grandmother. Darn it all!

Ginny, we want to hear all about making those tee shirts. Give us a lesson please.

Shawnee, Yeah running the vacuum over them is just fine. Teehee, maybe I need a med for my "condition", eh? At least I would stop driving Gerard NUTS.

Wow, wow and wow! Those pictures just made my day. I fully understand why people want to live in Washington State. It's spectacular! Off to check map quest and see just how much further a drive it would be to get there from NW Montana. So much to see, so little time and money.

Julie, come on and check in with us hun. We miss you.

Waving to Jackie, Barb and everyone else.

Hey everyone!

Today it is absolutely gorgeous! 70's and mostly cloudy, perfect day to have the windows open and feel the breeze! This morning I got up early (for me!) @ 8:00 so I could go to the 'soap store' up in Crashville. I wanted to get more of the soap base since I just love what I got before. The vast majority of that 2 lbs was sent to my MIL for her birthday, so I was running a bit low. Anyways, I made quite a haul! The soap bases are all first generation, all vegetable glycerine/natural. Got 4# of the aloe vera, 2# of the goats milk, 2# of the oatmeal and 2# of the plain. I also picked up a gallon of lotion base (just add fragrance) and a tin of solid perfumers base (heat and add fragrance). Got some Cucumber-Melon fragrance oil, Patchouli, a small bottle of Lemongrass (it's supposed to repel insects, we'll send some to DSisIL in mosquitoland and see if it works), and 2 essential oils: Cedarwood and Tea Tree. Got just a couple bottles and small plastic jars for the perfume base. All this for $113 including tax! I think I did really well! Also, survived the drive with flying colors Can you see I'm getting interested in this stuff? Now, mind you, it's not all just for me. Some of this will be a wedding gift (for friends who already have a houseful of stuff) so I'll make her some soap and lotion, and maybe perfume if I can find out what she likes. Then there's Christmas to think about, and this stuff will definitely ship well. Strange.....me planning ahead like this LOL!

Loretta, what do you reckon is causing his lowgrade fever? Poor guy, sure wish he'd heal up quickly! Hugs to you both, and too!

Zip, how fun to find a laptop! Even an 'antique' can be fun to piddle with. Reckon you could find some bits and pieces to upgrade it with? Don't worry about the Republicans, they won't hurt you! Us conservatives (unfortunately not all Republicans are conservative like the label says) just want to make life better for ALL! IMO all politicians have an agenda, and it's usually self serving....Democrats definitely included.

Linda, NO NO NO, not the BASEBOARDS!!! Mine are lucky to get SWEPT! Wanna come to my house and clean? Wait, better not...the dirt is what's probably holding it together

Shawnee, home! Missed you, girl! You have access to some pretty country...now all you need to do is point that travel trailer to TN and drive! I'll even share puppy snuggles with ya.....can you be bribed???

Susan, way cool on the gift of beautician time! I haven't gone to a salon in years....a friend cuts my hair, and I have no perms or color or anything. I reckon you're enjoying the relaxing now that the weekend is here...don't forget, you need 'me time' too!

Jacki, your DGS looks like a fun loving sweetheart! I know you gotta be so proud of your GBrats--not only are they a good looking crew, but their smiles are genuine!

Barb, WTG on the shopping expedition! I too HATE to pay full price. Pretty much the only thing I will pay out the nose for is my steel toed footwear. In that case, I will, since if my feet aren't happy, no one around me has a chance! Do you have any consignment stores near you? That's where I'm gonna start when I look for my next 'nice' outfit. Have to buy DH a suit too and he will HAVE to go for that!

Well, all, off to lurk for a little bit, then probably play with my new toys One of these days I'll scan in that pic of us. I'm pretty ok with it, but as usual I spot something I don't like about my part! Sheesh!

Just saw your post, Linda....

The t-shirts are a breeze to make. All it consists of is the transfer paper you can get at WW or any other large retailer, a 100% cotton shirt (so you can use a HOT iron), a computer and printer.

Just find a picture you like (or create one), if you are using text be sure to have it reversed so it will be 'right' when you do the transfer. All your images will be reverse of what you have on your screen but you can reverse them too if needed. Send it to print on the printer using the highest quality setting you can. Just your regular printer ink is needed, nothing special. Let it set for a bit after printing to make sure the ink is dry...eliminate the chance of smudging...then trim out the item you are wanting to put on the shirt. On a prewashed shirt (no fabric softener) iron out the area where you want to put the transfer. Let cool. Place transfer where you want it to go (paper side UP) and iron on the hottest setting the garment will take. Follow the package instructions on how long to iron, but I usually go just a bit longer. Wait for the garment to cool, then peel off the backing paper. VIOLA! You have just made a one-of-a-kind garment!

Most of all, IT'S FUN!

L8r!

Hi ya Ginny,
Wow did you ever make out like a bandit with those soap making supplies. My gosh you are a crafty girl and are inspiring me to maybe make something this fall. Soap sounds like an easy thing. I did make a few candles in my Woodstock days.

I very well may start with the tee shirt transfers if I can figure it out. Does that transfer paper just go into the printer paper tray? ..LOL dumb ass here..

Consignment shops and thrift stores are the best places for clothes as far as I'm concerned. I am looking forward to visiting a few in the Bitterroot valley in Montana. LOL those Forbes billionaires donate lovely stuff to us poor folks.

Ramblings of a Retired Mind

I was thinking about how a status symbol of today is those cell phones that everyone has clipped on. I can't afford one. So, I'm wearing my garage door opener.

You know, I spent a fortune on deodorant before I realized that people didn't like me anyway.

I was thinking that women should put pictures of missing husbands on beer cans!

I was thinking about old age and decided that it is 'when you still have something on the ball, but you are just too tired to bounce it'.

I thought about making a fitness movie, for folks my age, and call it "Pumping Rust."

I know, when people see a cat's litter box, they always say, "Oh, have you got a cat?" Just once I want to say, "No, it's for company!"

Employment application blanks always ask 'who is to be notified in case of an emergency.' I think you should write, "A Good Doctor!"

Why do they put pictures of criminals up in the Post Office? What are we supposed to do -- write to these men? Why don't they just put their pictures on the postage stamps so the mailmen could look for them while they deliver the mail?

I was thinking about how people seem to read the Bible a whole lot more as they get older. Then, it dawned on me, they were cramming for their finals. As for me, I'm just hoping God grades on the curve.
