MVM Monday

Good morning everyone,

Nice dinner, good show Saturday; lazy day Sunday.
Spent MANY houurs trying to get 2 pics of us that didn;t cause violent wretching! "Auuuugggh, you mean I LOOK like that?"..."No, No you don't REALLY"...that kind of thing.

I'll toddle these over to the Kodak machine (Target's works...CVS's kinda shot), insert my Compact Flash card (what Canon uses) and process a 6 pack of each. Machine has good cropping facilities.

If they are still eccch after size reduction, I'll put them through a free download of a Photoshop 2 teaser downnload (antique) that I got with an Adobe Acrobat Reader freebie download. I have a copy of Adobe PhotoDeluxe 2 which is unloaded yet and even the MONSTER PHOTOSHOP 6.0...but I can't bear that huge a learning curve for 2 lousy photos. The Adobe "starter" should be able to get rid of about 10 years of age ravaging.

I presume the PhotoShop 2 Started might be able to remove a FEW imperfections if I need it, but since Passports expire soon (Sept.) we MUST get SOMETHING submitted, baggy eyes or not, or the process becomes even MORE TEDIOUS. (We'll emigrate if Dubya steals another election with rigged electronic voting...don't want to wait til a Depression and concentratiion camps...so up-to-date passports are a MUST.)

Happy Birthday, Julie...another 1943 baby...that makes at least 3 of us.

Linda,
I have no use for Uffe Ravnowski and even LESS for FOX NEWS and even LESS, LESS for THE CATO INSTITUTE. That nonsense about no link between cholesterol and mortality and/or heart disease is internet claptrap and I've argued against it in several other places. (Reminds me of a radio "new age" jackass named Gary Null who is STILL babbling that HIV doesn't cause AIDS, that there's NO epidemic worldwide, and even that there's no such THING as AIDS...it's all caused by eating poorly! (I'm not making this UP!)
For some REAL info, this MEDSCAPE research about statins/heart diese is quite compelling:
http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/445150
(I had to dig for my password...it went poof in the last reformat) It's a long, but rewarding read!

Loretta,
The criniumm is so beautiful. Looks like a lily (allium family?) Is it?

To all a lovely day (we're going up near 90 but only 70 now, so blowing the fan mightily and I'll seal up in an hour.)

To all my Maintain friends:

Happy Monday from Sunny Colorado!!

OMG -- there are people born in 1943 on this board??? I didn't know I was in such great company.

Well, I did weigh myself Sunday and I'm two pounds up from goal -- but the peach pie (just a sliver) I had Saturday night didn't help I suppose. I'm cutting down this week.

I met a guy on Sunday who after being diagnosed with diabetes last May - gave up his former drinking habits, adopted a low carb way of life, lost 50 pounds and is doing well. His blood sugar is low now. I love hearing these stories!!

School doesn't start for us until August 25, but I understand others have gone back already. We have inservices, etc. etc. blah, blah, blah, on some days before that!! I'm getting to the stage in my life where I could give these for memory -- so I just drink a LOT of water and keep leaving the room to go to the bathroom and walk around the whole building to do so.

I just don't know what to think about the cholesterol "debate" !! I see both sides of the story but.......... drugs sure are too expensive!! I have a sister who works for a phar. co. based in Chicago and they sure do live well!! She handles complaint disagreements and travels all over to settle cases -- with a team of corporate lawyers, how can anyone win?

Take care -- have a great Monday and will check in later but must go exercise!!

Barb

Hey gang,

Just a quickie here as I have to run to town this a.m. and send off our morning shipments! Normally DH would do this, but this morning he is over at the farm helping haul off cows. I'd rather go to town!

Shawnee, LOL on the 'classification' of NA vs Indian...I wanted to be sure everyone knew who I was talking about! Many cultures did things in different ways when raising children, and at the time the things they did were usually out of necessity. Of course now, with all the changes to this age, many of the practices have been abandoned or just become traditional. Love the pic of that calf! Wow, she was a brave momma to drop the baby in so much activity!

Julie, yes, that's true that many places think higher of a diploma than a GED. I think that's changing tho, since so many young adults have gone for the GED. I do wish employers would just look at the person, since I know many people who have diplomas and not a lick of sense!!! But, it is a sorting tool for them. Your DGS has to take the best route available to him to help his future. Happy Birthday a day late! Your excursion sounds wonderful!

Loretta, sure hoping your DH can get settled in well with the new equipment! It has to be quite a change for him, and he'll learn how everything feels with time. Hugs to you both!

Linda, sure hope it is just the batteries....those digicams have come so far in such a short period of time that buying a new one would be a learning curve!

Zip, playing with pictures can be fun! Don't let the software intimidate you!

Susan, glad you enjoyed your time off to decompress We know you're loving being a grandma! It would be hard to go back to work tho.

Barb, I thought I saw you zooming past here! How is everything going?

Jacki, what new projects are lined up for this week? Love your pics of your gardens and plants! I love the unusual stuff.

Well, off to get a shower before town...

Hah, Hah....I lured you into my TRAP Ginny...what photo editor are you gonna be my LAST WORD ON. Anything with Photoshop? I know it's QUITE a program.
I promise I won't torture you with TOO many questions.

Barb, mean to tell me you and I were born 2 weeks apart????
Neighbor down the hall is ONE DAY younger than I....so it's 4 of us in 1943?... Anyone make it 5???

Anyhoo,
That do it yourself photo processer at Target is SUPER COOL...$.80 TOTAL including TAX! got me 12 nice 2 x 2's, 6 for each of us...Nice photographic paper and laser (none of that klunky inkjet on plain paper nonsense.
Only problem is it's too heavy on the red side for skin tones...but I'm not quibbling for a passport. If I do more I'll tell them to adjust it (brand new) or else compensate with TUNGSTEN setting con camera (that blues things up.)

If you have a similar machine available, bring your media card with you and play with it...it's FUN!

Native Americans make a really ROTTEN CURRY!

Gosh we all live different lives, Ginny's DH helping haul off cows, Barb, leaving the classroom to go pee, Roger spending the day at Walmart, (hehehe) and and me? Hmmm what shall I do today? Have an appt. with a counselor which I've been debating all morning cancelling but know I won't. The new antidepressant seems to be working faster than I was told. Great news for Chuck and my friends.
After that, I need to make doggie cookies for our Bichon Bash I'm helping put together for next Saturday. I'm not a crafter but did make some cute magnets, bichon junk all over. We're expecting over 35 bichons!!!!
We are all so different but hey, Zip, Linda, Barb and I all 1043 youngens!!!!!!! Shawnee, no, I like 60, so think I'll just stay there. 59 was just so yucky. LOL

Going to be high 80's around here today. So will soak up some Vit.D for winter!!!!! Catch ya later..

Hi to all

Well I guess I'm the old lady in the bunch since 1940 is my year of birth. Should be able to advise you all with the voice of experience. Guess I maybe have had time to make a few more mistakes than you all.

Leah is waving hello to all today. I might meet her dad for lunch at the new house today. He is busy working on his deck and will see if he wants me to bring him some lunch later on. He wants my advice about kitchen cabinet placement.

Shawnee thanks for the pics. I loved the little piggies and the calf. Guess those mommies don't have a problem on different schools of though on raising those young uns. They just follow mother nature.

Barb you are right about the great cholesterol debate. That is going to go on for years. My sis office nurse called her and told her they the doc wanted her to take the drugs because of her high cholesterol only giving her the total choles number. NO other numbers were given. She is on a very limited income and it is out of the question for her and she did not WANT to take them to begin with. 2 pounds up from goal is not bad at all. "a piece of cake" to get them off.

Thanks Ginny for the thoughts on DH. My thoughts too and he is on new rx also. He just needs adjustment time. Keep those shipments going. What a great way to sell your orkids without a bunch of other hassle except for the packing and shipping.

Zip have you tasted that curry made by an American Indian? They might surprise you. Hope we get to see those pics when you are done getting them "right." Where are you going with that passport? Inquiring minds.

Julie you did great to lose on $10 and have a great time on your birhtday. Bet the dinner was great too.

Linda hope it is just the batteries and not anything more. Won't that be nice. I use those rechargable batteries too and probably would not have thought about that either.

SuSun enjoy your days at the salt mines with Ella. She will only be this age once, cuddle away.

Later folks

Lretta

Aw, Zip...ya gotta use the young, fresh ones, and add extra spices !!

Hi Y'all

Shades of Hades, its pushing past the 100° mark here

Some of my Cherokee Purple heirloom tomatoes are ripe... they will not be going into any curry

Loretta, how cute is that Leah? !! Such a doll. Bet she has adorable toes too.
Mother Nature and instincts are good teachers.

Ginny, that Momma cow didn't have much choice in the matter. She was experienced, tho
Yeah, we all know educated idiots...all facts but no common sense.
GrandPup Burk came visiting today, he's 9 mo. now and about full size, will just bulk up some now. We have toys for him here, and he prefers the squeeky ones.

Julie, you are gonna use the oven??? (makes me pop out in sweat, thinking about it) Thirty-five white fluffballs all together will be a cute sight. Hope you and councelor are a good ''fit".

more later.

Shawnee, NOPE!!!!!!!1 No oven for me today. 89 is all but hotter than hell in this part of the world.
Can you believe, since last Friday, we are up to over 55 Bichons!!!! One couple called with 6 Bichons. Are they nuts? Actually I'd love to have a least a couple but 6? About 3 couples have 4 each. Should be a blast. Will get my camera empty so I can take lots of pics.

Loretta, Awwww Leah is so darn darling. I sure wish I could just pick her up and hug and snuggle her little neck. She is a charmer for sure.

Off tomorrow for the day and night for our 41st Anniversary bash!! Be back Wed. night gang. Hold the fort down.

I'm finally getting here. We bought an ice cream machine tonight ( lol we went for batteries for the camera) and are trying our hand at it since we have some liquid splenda and heavy cream lying around waiting . I'll let you know tomorrow how it comes out.

Roger, I agree with Shawnee. Young, fresh, spices and cook em well.

I suppose in another 50 years, cholesterol won't matter a damned bit to any of us. But you do have to admit the pharmaceutical companies are making a fortune marketing all these drugs on TV.

Ginny, boy your orchid E Bay business is going strong. Wishing you the best.
It is a shame that employers don't look at the person, rather than the diploma. Book smart doesn't always cut it in today's world.

Batteries are charging up now, so tomorrow we will know about the camera.

Barb, another 1943 old gal here. It sure was a good year, eh?

It is great to hear stories about people taking control of their bodies and health. Wishing him continued success.

Aug. 25, eh? That isn't too bad. Our University year starts about then but the public school kids go back the day after Labor Day.

Loretta, Leah is such a beautiful little doll and we know she is the apple of your eye.

Hopefully your DH will adjust to those meds quickly. Keep us posted.

Shawnee, MOTHER OF PEARL!!! Hitting 100 Hope that heat wave breaks soon. That is just awful. How high is the humidity?

How much does Burk weigh now? Those young pups sure do love the squeaky toys, don't they? When my DD calls I can hear Dakota chewing away in the background.

Loved your pictures. What a lovely area you live in.

Julie, LOL you only lost $10 at the casino? Boy are you disciplined.

6 Bichons I can't imagine.

Have a wonderful Anniversary Bash. You deserve it.

Waving to the rest of our gang.
Off to lurk.

Just a quickie tonight!

Want to let you know I lost 2lbs of the 3lbs that I had gained.

Yippeee! That sure came of easily! I did the pure protein thing but allowed myself the blueberries and yogurt.

GORGEOUS PIC OF LEAH, THANK YOU LORETTA! She is adorable and giving us that Royal wave!

Off to bed soon!

Wavin to y'all.

Hello all....looks like I'm the last one for the day.

Look at that little beauty Leah. I wanna squeeze her!

Hey Carol, it was hot on this end of the block too!!

I went out this morning and mowed the yard before it got too hot then hibernated inside with the new big a** AC. That thing sure works good!!!

One chair left to go. I finished my daughter's planter chair today plants and all. I'll take pics tomorrow and post them. Now I can start on the last chair---mine. I'm putting mums in them since fall is just around the corner.

Not much else to report. Oh...I made another batch of cole slaw today....and made a discovery when I used some of the cole slaw in a salad with ice berg and roasted chicken. I added some Italian salad dressing (the Newman's Own) and WOW!! It's delishious! Next time I make cole slaw I will mix some of the dressing with the mayo and celery seed. I'll call it......Italian Cole Slaw.

Good night you wonderful magnificent ones. Sweet Dreams

Me again...

Loretta, what a beautiful baby! She sure has grown a lot too!

Zip, we have PictureIt (millenium version) and it is really user friendly. DH does most of the picture stuff.

Shawnee, how long do you gotta cook em? Does it go by weight or just until they are tender LOL!

Barb, your inservice 'speeches' are probably like our monthly plant wide meetings. Yawn.

Linda, keeping my fingers crossed for you re the camera!

Julie, YIKES that's a lot of dogs! Now, granted, I can't say much since we have 5, but we have 5 because we DON'T want 6! I can't imagine that many dogs of any size or breed being together for a party--you're braver than I am.

Jacki, school has started here already for the public schools. It was hard to get used to seeing the buses running so early in the year when we moved down here. Up north, schools never started earlier than the week before labor day, and that was usually just a couple days.

Well, all, off to lurk for a bit, then bed. DH is already snoring--poor feller was whupped from that early morning with the cows.

Julie, HAPPY ANNIVERSARY ...consider the Fort "held".

Ginny, first they gotta be rubbed with deer brains and urine...NO! WAIT ! ...that's for tanning hides..

Jacki, your grass looks greener than mine; therefore, it can't be as HOT at your end of the block. (envious of your new four-barrel-with overdrive AC unit) I like the idea of Italian Cole Slaw.

Here's how dry our back yard is, but ol' GrandPup Burk stopped playing long enough to do his share of "watering" it.

http://photobucket.com/albums/v179/s...eringgrass.jpg

YAHOO for SuSUN, already dropping two of those pounds!

Montana, ...I'd feel foolish, being a Spring chicken, born Jan. of '45...but SuSUN is waaaay younger , and our Ginny is a young pup yet. It ain't the age anyhoo...its the milage...

Hope your super-charged batteries cure all the camera ills, and you're ready to shoot!

GrandPup is about 50 lbs
