Mornin' all!

Looks like I'm the first one on the 'puter today!

Got in a little 'retail therapy' which (if I like the stuff) may turn into wholesale therapy soon. Y'all remember Horsetrainer? Well, she and I went up to a place in Crashville that sells fragrance oils, soap and candle making stuff. I bought some of the 'heat and pour' type soap and some fragrance oil. Burning some honeysuckle fragrance now and it smells really good. Tried my hand at the soap and it WORKED!!! Now I have a bar of honeysuckle scented soap waiting for me in the shower. They say nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool, so I must not be sufficiently talented as it smells good and it set up well

Linda, sorry the camera went on the fritz! Aggravating to say the least! Our Sony Mavica has done very well for us, and I would bite the bullet and fix it were it to ever tear up. It has a 14x zoom on it, and takes wonderful pics! It does work off a floppy disc (newer ones work off mini cd's I think) so I don't have to worry about memory sticks or any of that.

Zip, someone else doing the laundry is always a good thing! Hope you enjoyed your evening out!

Shawnee, those sales are so much fun! We're going to look in the local paper and see if there's anything going on today yard-salewise. Never know what you'll find! We've had a cooler weekend too, actually turned the fan off in the bedroom and it was plenty cool to sleep well Horsetrainer has a mixed breed pup that has become my buddy---lotsa baby snuggles from that little one!

Jacki, love the chair! You are one creative gal! Have you ever thought about doing items like that for sale? Were you at the sales with Shawnee yesterday?

Loretta, fresh garlic would be wonderful! I bet the cooler temps made it a LOT easier to do the outside chores. I can't handle a weedwhacker (wrist and elbow would definitely regret that!) so DH does all that.

Susan, good for you getting in some relaxing time! I know Shawnee will verify this: Native Americans trained their children as babies to not be 'criers'. They would wait for the child to stop crying before picking up, and would set a child down should they cry while being held. This was done as a necessary safety precaution at that time, since a crying baby would draw enemies in to their location. Of course, nowadays this is not necessary training, but I have seen many parents pick up a child as soon as it cries, which rewards the baby for crying. Sometimes a baby has to just 'cry it out', so letting one cry is not necessarily a bad thing if the crying isn't a 'necessary needs' cry. Opinions?

Julie, those pups sure can spot a willing attention giver! It's a proven fact that they gravitate towards us 'suckers' and get their due! Sounds like your DGS is settling in well. We have the alternative school program here, but not really sure how it works. I do think here it is for the kids that get removed from mainstream due to behavioral problems, so I wonder (if yours is similar) if that would be a good situation for him to be in? Is he interested in finishing actual schooling in a classroom environment or would this prepare him for his GED?

Barb, are you all recovered from vacationing? You sure have had a busy summer!

Well, gang, off to lurk for a bit, then try out my new soap!

Good morning Ginny and all who follow.

Ginny, home made soaps and candles are wonderful! Years ago I remember watching my grandmother make some wonderful things. Back then there weren't any commercial fragrances to use but she put in vanilla, cloves, etc.

I'm doing some research on cameras and will take my time getting a new one, unlike the last time. Instant gratification gets us into trouble. LOL

Glad to hear that Horsetrainer is still around and hope she is doing well. Tell her we miss her around here.

I'm still trying to wake up so I'll make this brief.

Umm, Roger don't hit me but I thought I would share this article. As they say at Fox, "we report, you decide".

Ginny, I'm not even sure exactly how this alternative school works yet but this is what I do know. He will get his diploma through this smaller classroom environment. He does have bipolar so his attention span is limited and he will do much better in this type of school. Thats one of the reasons he has had such a tough time in school since jr. high. He is the perfect candidate because of his arrest and behavioral problems. He needs to be in court every Friday morning and the alternative school only is in session Mon.-Thurs. So that works too. I'm not real keen on him being around all those other behavioral problem kids either but.... I'll talk to the principal about this. This will be better than getting his GED. All the "professionals, counselors etc." are telling us a GED isn't as impressive as it use to be on resume's. Sooooo...

Boy, does that soap making sound like fun. Sure is looking like you could sell them too. Thinking Ebay or bazaars or what? Hope you enjoyed your shower.

Linda, are you awake yet??? Good that you are researching the camera's. We have a Kodak DX3600 but it's only a 2mg.pix and probably not the best but for our first one, it's ok. Next time, maybe a better one.

Ok, I'm lost, who is Horsetrainer?? An old poster?

Going up to one of the Indian Casino's and dinner today. Haven't been to this one. It's smaller but hear the food is great. Have a good day everyone.

HI to all

My new avitar is a crinium. Janie, over on the golden posted it a while back. Any of you gardeners growing some?

Ginny, honeysuckle is my very favorite fragrance. I love the month of May since the air is perfumed with it then. You have lots of things going on for you. I visited ebay finally and found your orkids and the prices seemed to be very good. I also copped some more pics for avitars. Thanks.

Julie is that Dh of yours a Gemini, by chance. He sure seems to be multi talanted and I bet he is very good at all of his endeavors. You have taken on a real job of love there with Nick and it must take a lot of thought and study to get him in the right program like alternative school. It is like you are giving him the best start on a new and productive life. You and your family are in my prayers.

Zip how did the picture taking go?

SUSUN glad you got some alone time and time to rewind for yourself. Since you will be returning to work in a few weeks, you probably need to schedule more ME time in there.
My DS #3 and also Leah's dad were believers of not letting the kids cry. I remember #3 would hold that 18 month old son of his and rock him until he went to sleep. Just different ideas on the subject.

Barb when does that school schedule begin. How was the weigh in? Just curious. I have been able to stay below goal now for several months. I weigh in weekly now as opposed to monthly.

Shawnee it wasn't hypo thyroid that ate off my eyebrows, just natural aging. You probably have had a combo of both there.
How many miles of that garage sale are you going to cover?
We had something similar here in Ky a while back. Hope you find some real treasures. Dh has had some rough days but maybe he will settle down now. Some sweats, heart pain (which I slept through) He said it felt like his wires came off but he got them back on place. I think it was the pacer doing its job. Will get him set with some home made chicken soup today.

Linda how was that turkey? I sure am not real patient at researching new purchases. My sis sure takes her time and does all kinds of internet searches before she buys.
Thanks for that article on the statins. Pretty soon they will be like cell phones, everyone will be on them. I think no matter what when your number is up, you will go no matter what your cholesterol numbers are. I try to enjoy each day as it comes.

Have a great Sunday all and be content.

Lretta

Good SUNday to One and All!

Enjoying my second day off, it is glorious!
DD has invited me over for supper this aft and early evening, they keep telling me how very grateful they are to me for the weekday work. We are having roast beef, veggies and all the trimmings of a English Sunday dinner.

DD said she had a better night last night, so we may have turned a corner, only two feedings and sleep stretches of 4 hours and 3 hours, so progress!

Each week baby steps are being made. Last week, Ella was in a growth spurt, they typically go through them at 3 weeks, 6 weeks and 3 months, where they are ravinously hungry for 3-4 days. That did happen last week!

Thank you for all the experiential contributions. That was sooooooo interesting Ginny on Native Indian babies and crying. I can use that in my prenatal-parenting classes to add a bit of N. American interest. The soap and candle making sound wonderful.

September the 1st is rolling around fast, DD doesn't want me to return to work. She has asked her DH to supplement my pay. LOL! I need to return to keep my licence, so I may negotiate to one or two days a week to start with.

I have been daydreaming about my retirement and feel I really must have the winter months in FLA and the summer up here, to escape the heat of FLA. So I guess, we had better make some concrete plans instead of just talking about it.
I want to keep the health care advantages up here, as we have paid into the system for over 28 years, and take out some extra health insurance while we are down in FLA. Hopefully, the best of both worlds.

Is this what happens when you become a Grandparent, you dream of retirement? Not sure how I will feel at leaving DD and DGD up here for 4- 5 months!

Have a wonderful Sunday!

SuSUN!

Back again,

Julie, it took me quite some time to wake up today

Glad Nick is on the right track with this new program. How long will he be involved in it?

Enjoy your dinner and Happy Birthday
Enjoy every minute of it.

Loretta, your poor DH has been through the mill. Hope he feels better very soon. It must be so stressful for both of you.

I'm embarrassed to say we may not need a new camera. It very well could be both sets of rechargeable batteries are on the way out. Tomorrow we will get some new ones and see what happens.

Shawnee, we want to hear all about the huge garage sale. Did ya have lots of fun and buy some really neat stuff?

Susan, you have to work to keep your license up to date? Here all one has to do is send it in and PAY the fee.

Hopefully you will only need to work on or two days a week and start getting used to retirement.

Roger, come on and check in will ya please?

Where are the rest of the gang?

Linda, glad you woke up long enough to go back to bed. LOL
Nicks drug court program last a minumum of 18 months if he works it right. The alternative school should be the same as high school. Not sure on that yet.

Barb, we went to the casino and I blew $10.00!! Big spender from the west!! Had a nice dinner on the waterfront. Thanks for the birthday greetings. Had a real nice day.

If any of you are interested, here is a website for the alternative school Nick will hopefully be attending.

http://www.bremertonschools.org/scho...enaissance.pdf

Guess it doesn't really tell you much. I'll look and see if I can find out more.

Julie,

That is a great structure in place for your DGS. Sounds like you are super organised and have a great plan for him. YOU are a fabulous Grandmother. I hope I can live up to your standards!

Your Birthday Dinner on the waterfront sounds heavenly! MANY HAPPY RETURNS OF THE DAY!

I too am a Capricorn, as is my DH. I think Shawnee is too! Lots of us "ole" Goats to keep your DH company. Is his birthday Dec or Jan?

Hi Barb,
I see you "snook in" to see us.
Hoping your summer is going well, you deserve it! I know only too well that September is coming closer and closer.

Linda,
I think I have to keep so many hours a year going to keep my license, ya know to show that I am still practicing and all that.
Do you have your RN too? I know Loretta had hers.

Loretta,
Love your flowery avitar, they are always so pretty. We get to see a real bouquet of flowers over the months.
Thanks for the reminder on more ME time! I'll go for more of that!

Shawnee,
Ya not here yet? MIA or having a peaceful Sunday.

Wavin to Y'all till tomorrow evening, off to a different salt mines tomorrow morning. LOVIN IT!

Hi Y'all

Back to HOT here.

Seems some of y'all missed my post yesterday re Garage sale adventure; its more of a social outing than a treasure hunt...but the "finds" are fun too. Here's yesterday's babble on that:

We gabbed so much, bargain hunting was secondary...still, managed to find some treasures...I spent around a whopping $10, and had $1,000 worht of entertainment. Ran into lots of friends, which required more gabbing
Friend with me is putting finishing touches on log home she and her DH (building contractor) have built themselves on nights and weekends over the last two years. I enjoyed helping her find antiques and old stuff to give it the right touches. ( She had her Gramma's furniture, etc in storage...which was broken into and stolen)...can't replace the family stuff, but try to find similar things.

Today we drove South about 30 mi. to a large County Fair...yes, another one. LOL, our Local one here is also going on, but we skipped it for greener pastures. NO MULES there...damn, what is the world coming to??? I haven't downloaded my Pics yet, will post later if any are worthwhile.

Ginny, good to hear you and HT had a good time out retailing. Tell me about her Pup.
Glad you're dabbling in a new hobby, and enjoying the results so much.
GAWD, I love your statement:
They say nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool, so I must not be sufficiently talented as it smells good and it set up well
Words to live by for me too, but usually involves cooking, or anything I've never tackled before..
TRUE bout the Indian babies...also for any culture (like when Jewish families were in hiding)... when one small wimper could spell doom for many.
BTW, most Natives I know call themselves Indians, and think its funny as hell to be given that title by some lost white eyes dude. ( North America is called Turtle Island.)

Montana, yes..instant gratification does cause trouble...Thankfully there's birth control.

Seriously, just as with any brand name product in any line, there are winners and lemons. Hope its just a battery problem. Don't be embarrassed, be thankful !!

Loretta, probably we all have differing views on child-rearing...and what works for one doesn't seem to work for others. Somehow, the babies seem to survive our efforts.
Sure hope your DH settles down with his "internal wiring".
Yup, you're right, my age is about half of the eyebrow loss. One of the Hypo symptoms is loss of the outer edges of the brows...(and other places on the body)
Good for you, staying under Goal!

Hi SuSUN...you sound so upbeat, back to being our Cheerleader again!
Right you are, both DH and I are those earthy Capricorns. Glad you had a relaxing weekend and got your batteries recharged.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JULIE ...gonna change your username?
One thing about your area, lots of nice waterfront places to choose from.

Hi Barb, ZIP, Jacki...hope y'all had a good Sunday.

Shawnee

Got a few good Fair shots

A gobbler with a face only its mother could love..and me too. I'm pretty good at "perking" at them to get them to gobble...we had a lengthy conversation.

Some goats with gorgeous coats

A litter of month-old piglets ...count 'em if ya can

............and a wonderful experience for the City Slickers (and me!!)in the Cow Barn: just as we walked in, Mom was dropping her calf!
