MVM Sunday
Hi all. Not much to report here. Saturday was a slow stay-at-home day for me. I did some maintence work on my flowers yesterday...spraying and putting systemic around my roses. Bought some new flowers for the hummers, fed some plants then sat under the tree and just enjoyed my yard with a glass of ice tea. I'm loving it. Soon enough it will be back to work and I'll be remembering these nice soft days.
I experimented with egg custard this weekend--in the nuker. The results are perfectly tasty although the texture is a bit broken up because of the power fluctuations in the nuker. Even at level 6 (1100watt oven) it would boil, then settle. It didn't hurt the flavor but the smooth texture was broken up by the bubbles and kinda gave it a smooth tapioca like texture. Still yummy and I'll keep making it. 3 eggs beaten really well (extra large) 1/2 cup davinci dulce de leche sugarfree syrup (or more if you want it sweeter) 2 cups of milk (I used the Hoods) dash of salt Make sure you blend this really well to mix the eggs smoothly. Then I poured it into 3 ziploc plastic containers (lightly sprayed with pam) Into the nuker for 15 minutes on level 6 (1100 watt oven) You will have to adjust for you nuker power. I also gave the containers a quarter turn every 5 minutes. Take out of oven and place the lids on top....loosely. When cooled put in fridge. Enjoy. Only 3 carbs a container. Carol, love your photos. Especially the sweet old lady. She's beautiful. Loretta, hows DH doing? Zip, Orchid, Montana, Julie and everyone...waving at ya. ![]() |

What's your Redneck Sign???
Some of us (especially REDNECKS) are pretty skeptical of horoscopes, and it has become obvious that what we need are our own "REDNECK" symbols: OKRA (Dec 22 - Jan 20) - Although you appear crude, you are actually very slick on the inside. Okras have tremendous influence. An older Okra can look back over his life and see the seeds of his influence everywhere. Stay away from Moon Pies. CHITLIN (Jan 21 - Feb 19) - Chitlins come from humble backgrounds. A chitlin, however, can make something of himself if he's motivated and has lots of seasoning. In dealing with Chitlins, be careful. They can erupt like Vesuvius. Chitlins are best with Catfish and Okra. BOLL WEEVIL (Feb 20 - Mar 20) - You have an overwhelming curiosity. You're unsatisfied with the surface of things, and you feel the need to bore deep into the interior of everything. Needless to say, you are very intense and driven as if you had some inner hunger. Nobody in their right mind is going to marry you, so don't worry about it. MOON PIE (Mar 21 - Apr 20) - You're the type that spends a lot of time on the front porch. It's a cinch to recognize the physical appearance of Moon Pies. Big and round are the key words here. You should marry anybody who you can get remotely interested in the idea. It's not going to be easy. This might be the year to think about aerobics. Or - maybe not. POSSUM (Apr 21 - May 21) - When confronted with life's difficulties, possums have a marked tendency to withdraw and develop a don't-bother-me-about-it attitude. Sometimes you become so withdrawn, people actually think you're dead. This strategy is probably not psychologically healthy, but seems to work for you. One day, however, it won't work and you may find your problems actually running you over. CRAWFISH (May 22 - June 21) - Crawfish is a water sign. If you work in an office, you're always hanging around the water cooler. Crawfish prefer the beach to the mountains, the pool to the golf course, the bathtub to the living room. You tend to be not particularly attractive physically, but you have very, very good heads. COLLARDS (June 22 - July 23) - Collards have a genius for communication. They love to get in the "melting pot" of life and share their essence with the essence of those round them.. Collards make good social workers, psychologists, and baseball managers. As far as your personal life goes, if you are Collards, stay away from Moon Pies. It just won't work. Save yourself a lot of heartache. CATFISH (July 24 - Aug 23) - Catfish are traditionalists in matters of the heart, although one's whiskers may cause problems for loved ones. You catfish are never easy people to understand. You prefer the muddy bottoms to the clear surface of life. Above all else, Catfish should stay away from Moon Pies. GRITS (Aug 24 - Sept 23) - Your highest aim is to be with others like yourself. You like to huddle together with a big crowd of other Grits. You love to travel though, so maybe you should think about joining a club. Where do you like to go? Anywhere they have cheese or gravy or bacon or butter or eggs. If you can go somewhere where they have all these things, that serves you well. BOILED PEANUTS (Sept 24 - Oct 23) - You have a passionate desire to help your fellow man. Unfortunately, those who know you best - your friends and loved ones - may find that your personality is much too salty, and their criticism will probably affect you deeply because you are really much softer than you appear. You should go right ahead and marry anybody you want to because in a certain way, yours is a charmed life. On the road of life, you can be sure that people will always pull over and stop for you. BUTTER BEAN (Oct 24 - Nov 22) - Always invite a Butter Bean because Butter Beans get along well with everybody. You, as a Butter Bean, should be proud. You've grown on the vine of life and you feel at home no matter what the setting. You can sit next to anybody. However, you, too, shouldn't have anything to do with Moon Pies. ARMADILLO (Nov 23 - Dec 21) - You have a tendency to develop a tough exterior, but you are actually quite gentle. A good evening for you? Old friends, a fire, some roots, fruit, worms and insects. You are a throwback. You're not concerned with today's fashions and trends. You're not concerned with anything about today. You're really almost prehistoric in your interests and behavior patterns. You probably want to marry another Armadillo, but Possum is another somewhat kinky, mating possibility. Oh my!! I'm a Collard married to a Moon Pie. Yikers!!! ![]() |

One Boll Weevil checking in LOL
Me and my Armadillo are fixin' to celebrate our 17th anniversary tomorrow (poor guy!) Not much new here. Had a lazy day yesterday, and really enjoyed it. Today we have to go get pics done at the fire hall....they do a fundraiser every couple years and th contributors get a free pic, so on with the makeup at the ungodly hour of 9:00!!! I may even look human by start time ![]() Shawnee, sounds like a fun day yesterday! Great pics! I like the churches that are like that too....IMO the $ is better spent on spreading the Word than ostentatious buildings. Jacki, your day and my day seem to have matched up! I even did some porch sittin' with DH! Glad you're enjoying your summer! Well, off to lurk for a bit, then SMILE TIME!!! Hey to all....

Moon Pie, checking in...all I'm missing is the friggen FRONT PORCH.
(Back in Allentown I LIVED on the porch!) WONDERFUL show yeterday. Great acting, tears, pity, infidelity and Greed...Just like REAL LIFE! Horton Foote's new play, THE DAY EMILY MARRIED will get RAVES when it opens. Parsons was Brilliant as usual as an Alzheimery old Southern Dowager who married DOWN and took it out on her daughter (Halley Foote...the author's real-life daughter.) Great CURRY in the "new" Indiantown...had to search though because most of thise restaurants were STRICTLY vegetairian...we had lamb and chicken AND nice curried veg! Weather is appalling Hot rainy and HUMID as a tropical rain forest...a JOCKSTRAP is overdressing! The BLONDE was trying to make some money so she knocked on a prosperous looking front door looking for work. The owner answered and said he'd pay $100 to paint the porch...deck paint is in the garage. A half hour later the BLONDE knocked on the door claiming she was done. The owner was surprised she was so FAST. The blonde said she had plenty of paint so she gave it a second coat and... "By the way, it's not a Porch, it's a MERCEDES!" Luv ya!

Another Boll Weevel checking in here.
Lots of smiley things here this am. LOL on the blond and the porch. Shawnee love the pic of the lady in her Finnish Costume. She sure did not look to be 78. She had such a beautiful face. Glad you two enjoyed the day with the Finns. Hard to find authentic foods though. We visit a Slovak place when we go up north that has a grocery and resturant. Most of the employees seem to be slovak also. Great food there for sure. Thanks Jackie for the humming bird reminder. They had emptied the feeder while we were away. Glad that you are enjoying your summer vacation. Congrats Ginny on getting that make up on so early. Hope the pics turn out great. Enjoy the festivities too. Hey Moon Pie glad you enjoyed the play and the dinner. Sorry about that heat and humidity. We are in the same boat here in Ky. Sending an ABP for Susun and Julie. Hey girls we sure are missing you both. Linda enjoy that dinner today. Your menu looks great. You folks celebrating a birthday or something special since your DB and his wife will be attending. I am going out to get some free cantalope from a friend and also to check on DSons new home. Hope DH will want to go along for the ride. He is progressing nicely. Later |

Collards, married to a Boiled Peanut
, checking in.It's hard to believe that the sun is finally shining. Maybe I should take a picture of it while it's here. Jackie, Thanks for the egg custard recipe. Unfortunately the only sugar free Davinci syrups our Wally world carries are Vanilla and Almond. Guess I'll have to order some from Netrition before I try it. Most recipes for the egg custard I make turn out like sweetened scrambled eggs. Not the best texture. Blah!Ginny, a very happy 17th anniversary to you and your Armadillo. How the heck can you even attempt to put makeup on at that ungodly hr? I have to be up at least two hrs. before I am able to function. DH and I will celebrate our 26th on 8/4. Roger, LOL. I love blond jokes. Maybe because I am a brunette. Glad the play and dinner met your expectations. It must be so wonderful to live near all that great stuff and not in the boonies like we do. So what's on the agenda today? Details please. We all live vicariously through our Big City man. ![]() Shawnee, My gosh that wonderful lady didn't look 78 by any stretch of the imagination until you looked at her hard working hands. Loved the native costume and that lovely old church. We have several like that around here. I need to get the camera out and take some pictures. Loretta, It's great to hear that your DH is progressing nicely. Oh now I NEED some fresh cantaloupe. You are fortunate to have neighbors who share with you. Don't you just love those ethnic festivals? There are several around here this weekend. I especially love the Uki Days. OMG the food is fantastic! No birthday, we are all just planning our Montana trip. My youngest brother has never been there so we are going to show him some some places that we plan to visit in and near Glacier. He has no clue as to what to expect. We will take the Going to the Sun Road through the park from the west side and perhaps stay on the Reservation on the other side before starting back to Columbia Falls. DH and I will stay for a few extra days there. |

Linda,
I'm with you on the scrambled custards. Even my carbonaras manage to come out a bit like breakfast food. Hey gang, for a very good Horror Film...Sci Fi Network premiered OUT FOR BLOOD on Friday (stars Kevin Dillon [spitting image of his brother Matt].) It's VERY good and far better than most theatrical releases. I'm sure it cost SciFi plenty so look for it to be on again. Vampire afficienados like me will like it a lot. Honey (es) I'm home!!
THANKS for leaving the light on! After all of this time on the road -- I'm really glad to be able to NOT have to live out of a suitcase. We had a WONDERFUL time on the Oregon coast -- it was cool, and refreshing. While you were all 103-104 inland, we were a balmy 65 on the coast. Our raft trip was great!! I managed to stay in the raft but ended up wet!! Ross and I were up front and trying to paddle our way thru the rapids -- but when a wave is coming over your head, I'm sure I was just paddling air! We had our own private beach to sprawl out on -- other guests were inside enjoying the "warmth" of their rooms -- we enjoyed the wind and coolness of the coast. I was pleasantly surprised to see all of the direction toward low carb with restaurants, grocerery stores, etc. I do believe I have become a master of the low carb cooler!! It does help when both of you are doing it and so much is available in this area. We only ate out a few times and our favorite was crab with garlic butter on the beach. Tired, but needed to check in........ Later, Barb

Hi Y'all
Welcome back, Barb! ![]() WAAAaaaaaaah..., Jacki...I don't wanna be an OKRA; I'd feel better classified as an ARMADILLO,...so I'm changing my birthday (Bob is an OKRA too)Doggone it, I have one heck of a time making a decent Custard in the Nuker...almost need another filler/stablizer like gluten or pumpkin to solidify it,preventing the "scrambled" effect. Have you perfected the technique? ![]() GODDESS, HAPPY ANNIVERSARY to you and DH..and know the Pups are included too (did someone mention pictures???? oh, boy!) I loved your Glamor Shot one.Montana, heheee...y'all really do advance planning/prep for the Moms dinner. Great that most of the work is out of the way, and more time for visiting when they arrive. Have fun. Loretta...aw, good to hear DH is doing well...sleeping with the Patient does work, huh? ![]() FREE cants is a very good price! Zip, thanks for that zany link....its fun! *** Just wanna mention, re the Splenda conversation a few days back: I always try to sub in some or all DaVinci for Splenda, replacing some the liquids in recipes as much as possible with it.
