SATURDAY, July 31, Vintage Maintainers
Hi gang,
Shawnee, I forgot all about MOBA (and I LOVE that it's a play on MOMA- Museum of Modern Art!) I put "Lucy" on my BACKGROUND. Sissy indeed, you'll outbutch the best of 'em! Yeah, those McMansions are sprouting up everywhere <except the old, old, old, cities like Jersey City (founded by Henry Hudson himself.) Linda, Looks the weatherman got it right, we haven't had a DROP, just hot and VERY humid (A/C last night!) Believe me you NEVER want a 15,000 BTU unit in your bedroom! The convent sold that cow...I bought it and make my own Half and Half! ![]() Ginny, I had a nice trip through your e-bay orchids. Is your opening price your reserve or do you have one in "RESERVE." Have you been propogating to generate new plants or just "thinning the herd." The packing and shipping must be an art form. Loretta, Continue, how's the patient doing...where do they install the computer- on the chest wall? Or IN the chest? Sorry you can't plug hubby into the phone. Gee, even 20 years ago our neighbor was able to??? Jacki, I hope that plumber has no relatives...especially not children that he drives to work in the toilet-mo-bile...it's just BAAAD (and belongs in the MOBA!) ![]() ![]() Time for our newest grandmother to start reporting in- we don't like playing "second-fiddle! Theater this afternoon after a hiatus. We are seeing Horton Foote's new play THE DAY EMILY MARRIED which stars one of our life favorites, Estelle Parsons (TV people might remember her as Roseanne's bossy mom.) Somebody recommended two Indian restaurants in the "other" Indiantown in Manhattan lovingly called "Curry Hill"...the section is in "Murray Hill" (Don't you LOVE it!) A nice sunny HOT day for an air conditioned theater and a spicy Lamb Vindaloo!)Enjoy the weekend.

Hi Y'all
Just a quickie check in before my day officially starts... Zip, you are just full of ...(to be nice) ..vim and vigor this AM ..(what is "vim"?) Lovely to see ya so positively positive. Sounds like y'all have a nice agenda lined up. Estelle Parsons is a classic ol' broad....right up there with Estelle "Sophia" Getty from The Golden Girls. Heheee, your Siggie line is superb... Don't know who started this but around here, to discribe an unruly person: "shoulda been eaten while he was young and his bones were still soft" Hope all our Gang is doing well, and having a good weekend. Hi
Love some of these new "art" pics. Thanks Shawnee for that MOBA site. Where do you find all this stuff? How nice to receive that lc gift. NICE neighbors you have there. Zip you too sure eat a lot of Indian food. Must be the large ethnic population of Indians there. We have a few chinese places here and some Mexican but no Indian. You have a nice weekend planned. Enjoy the theater. How nice to see a live play with such a wonderful cast. Can't remember when. The pacemaker is just under the skin, upper left chest. Lots of ugly bruising right now. He is getting around better but sleeping a lot for now. Linda do you just use splenda in the cookies? I have been using some Diabeta sweet and splenda but do believe the diabeta sweet causes me an upset stomach. My next batch will be without the diabeta. Hope you have a nice weekend with the moms. That is great that you both still have your moms. Later folks, L retta |

Hey everyone!
A bit on the drizzly side here, but that's ok, keeps the temperature down! Not much on the agenda for today, so time to decompress ![]() Zip, we are doing a little 'herd thinning', but quite a few of the items for auction are divisions or keikis of our own plants. When DH repotted, many were ready to divide, hence the auctions. We also (altho not listed currently) had some species phals that we got and have been selling them. It seems the species orchids are the going items, especially if you have blooming or bloom size/in spike plants. We are starting to selectively hybridize, but it will be years before the fruits of our labors are saleable! A starting price is just that....a reserve price allows you to no-sale an item if the reserve is not met, and you can see if you lurk (much easier now with DSL, huh!) that many have a reserve set way too high. We have only put a reserve on one plant, which was more than met. The thing about reserves is that they are higher than your starting bid, even if just a bit. We figure if we start a plant at a set price, then that's what we want for it minimum, so unless we have something 'really special' we won't reserve. Loretta, so glad your DH is doing well. The bruising will fade, but it always takes time. Big (gentle) hugs to you both! IMO, everyone recouperates better OUT of the hospital once they are able to go home. Comfortable, familiar surroundings and the lack of 'hospital bugs' I think are the main things! Linda, good thing y'all are on that hill! It may be a pain in the winter, but during the monsoon season it sure is a blessing! Has your well water finally cleared up? Shawnee, trying to send some rain your way....know what you mean about selective watering. We do that anyways even tho we're on well water. The big thing for us now is just having plants that will do well xerically! Of course, we've had good rainfall this summer so haven't had to water in the yard, just the potted stuff on the porch and the gh (of course!). Last weekend we got the kids some new 'squishy rugs'. They are the big dog pillows, and were quite well recieved! Currently my oldest is comfortably relaxing on the one he's claimed as his. Last weekend we had a t-boomer which required my keeping him company, and they are even comfortable for us humans LOL! Susan, Julie, Jacki......check in please, when you can! Off to lurk for a bit...

Hi everybody,
Well damn it, I just hit the wrong key and erased everything. Haven't been on line since this am because of thunderstorms and downpours. That forced me into doing some much needed Suzy stuff. Oh well, everything is ready for tomorrow. All I have to do is put the ham in the oven and warm up the vegetables. Roger, at your sig. line too. Glad you are loving your new DSL. There is nothing quite like high speed INTERNET access. LOL "Curry Hill" in the Murray Hill district. Hopefully the meal will be scrumptious. Shawnee, LMAO at the MOBA site. Humm, maybe I'll get myself some of those Elvis prints on velvet. We do have a couple of bare walls here.OMG that line of yours sounds like something my Dad would have said. I wish I could remember some of his crazy sayings.Suburban sprawl is hitting here too. We see someone clearing the parcel of land next to us. Fortunately they left about 40 ft. of woods between our sites. Sometimes I wish we had municipal water and sewer but the day will come, no doubt. So what are you going to make with your lovely gift from Jackie? Remember we want recipes. Loretta, Your poor DH must be exhausted from the stress of this past week. You too, eh? Hopefully he will be back to his spunky self soon. Yes I just use Splenda in anything I bake. That Diabeta sweet is sugar alcohol and will keep you in the bathroom half of the day if you eat too much. Ginny, I visited your E Bay site and just drolled over your lovely orchids. I would buy one but I know I would kill it within a week. Yup, the water is fine. Filter and water softener are turned on and working wonderfully. Boy selling sounds very complicated. I don't have a clue about Reserve and such. Guess I'll investigate a little further. Susan, are you getting your rest? It's good to hear that you will be giving up the night shift. Now you know why babies are born to the young. ![]() Waving to Julie, Jackie, Barb and lurkers. I'm off to the True Value store to get some Dirtex and a few other things. Household tip from my DIL. whose family owns a plate glass business. NEVER use Bounty paper towels to clean glass because it has a coating to make it very absorbent which leaves a film on the glass. Use the cheapest ones you can find and your glass won't streak. Later Last edited by LoveMontana : 07-31-2004 at 04:15 PM. |

Hi again
Today we drove West about 60 mi to the lil Finnish community of Naselle....biannual Finnish Festival. (Bob's my Finn, gotta celebrate his heritage ) This festival is supposedly about passing the ethnic pride and ways on to the younger generations.Bittersweet there, as most of the "real" Finn elders have passed on, and the traditional clothing and foods were few and far between...saw lots of rick-rack sewn on polyester, and cheeseburgers were the most popular fare...missing were the handmade hats and dresses from Grandma's steamer trunk, and NO salmon bakes, no lutefisk....but there was a Teriyaki stand HUH???There were some vendors selling Pulla Cardamom Bread....pronounced boo-la. Great fragrance, but NOT homemade...it came from a bakery in Astoria OR. !! ...we tried it, ugh, super sweet...Bob's Granny would have had a hissy- fit! Shoot, even I can make a decent Pulla. Just a tad disappointing, but we did find some Finns...LOL...and some were Bob's relatives! HEY, all was not lost, we had a good visit with them.I spotted a precious elderly lady (78, I think) who was dressed the most authentically, and accosted her; she was flattered that I wanted her to pose ...bless her heart for taking the time ![]() Her HANDS held the most appeal for me, they spoke gentle volumes of her life history. She was obviously the genuine life-timer who "took sauna" (sow-na), for her facial skin was so dewey. ![]() We then visited some friends who run a business there: Bar/grill/motel...and serve wicked Bloody Marys...I ate the olives and pickled green beans from Bob's and caught up on gossip. Next stop was Puget Island, a farming and dairy community...reached from the North by bridge, a ferry across the Columbia from the South. Spotted a simple yet elegant (to me) ol' Lutheran Church...unpretentious, I like that....anyhoo, the rural setting there on the island appealed to me. ![]() Then we did the ferry thing to Oregon, which was kinda fun on a slow Saturday....the Columbia was nice and calm, the eagles and osprey gave us a circling send off. I HOPE Bob will want to spend Sunday at home ![]() SORRY the pics are too huge...and I'm too tired to fix em. ShawneeLast edited by shawneesioux : 08-01-2004 at 12:56 AM. |
