WEDNESDAY for the Vintage Maintainers

Good morning Kiddies,

Looks like I forgot to post yesterday...I guess after my first peek, I went right to the HealthBoards and never got back.

I'm walking a thin line betweeen trying to work out and not hurt my hurt shoulder...
taking ibuprofen which has a nice side efffect for me: it kills APPETITE. I hope it lets me keep last weeks whoosh of nearly 5 pounds...I'm down about 16 this year.
Does anyone know if IBUPROFEN is a blood thinner like aspirin? I hate to take both (amplifies stomachache) but I won't go without a blood thinner.

Welcome Back Linda,
Gee those pics are dark but you and Tod (and Dollie Parton) came out well. Wow, all the pork certainly wasn't on the grille...I hoped the LC ketchup (Catsup...what a silly spelling) works well for some. You made me hungry for a pork roast, but I'm still marinating the eye-round (beef.)

Jacki,
A pretty girl, your DGD.

Julie,
I hope the Celexa works for you but that class of drugs is risky indeed. I agree with Loretta, I'd rather battle 2 weeks of depression a year than take the SSRB's (or something??). If you get any thoughts of suicide GET OFF the drug immediately!

I'm nervously fiddling the Mega Million tickets. As long as I don't check I can be the "winner" in my head. Bob doing his day today...I'll hit the gym, watch my taped SALEM'S LOT, and catch up on some paperwork.

A nice day to everybody and I'm off to the LOTTERY site!

edit:
Oh LORD, no winners. It looks like Friday's jackpot will start at $ 280 M and certainly climb over $ 300 M...
I'm off to the corner store.
(amazing quirk, if I buy the Mega in NJ, the prize is exempted from state tax but in NY, it's taxed. So if you're SURE you've got the right numbers, buy them in New Jersey and save $21 million...that should cover the commute!)

Morning all.....

Just popping in for today and soooooo happy to be able to post for a change. It's like - like coming home!!

In all of my travels so far (feel like Marco Polo) I'm happy to announce that low carb is HERE -- and to stay!! It's no problem to ask for what you want -- people understand!!

I'll be back next Tuesday for a week or so and then on to Oregon for FUN!! I'm sorry to say that I'll probably be home in August -- like forever with work starting on August 9th for me!!

Julie, keep checking in with doc on those meds and you can probably find a good match for you!! I've been on Lexapro for a year now and love it!! We played around with that for awhile and now the teeth marks on my tongue are gone and I have fingernails. I'm a compulsive floor walker and have always had more stress than I need! Haven't you noticed how relaxed I am and what a pleasing personality!!

When you win - Zip don't forget all of your friends!!

Everyone have a nice day...... later

Barb (and yes, my weight stayed the same)

good morning everyone. Beautiful blue skies here.

Zip, careful with that sholder...sorry, I can't help with the med question.

Barb---have a good trip and summer.

Here's a little something I got in my email this morning. It is so sweet:

Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a
10 year-old blue heeler named Belker. The dog's
owners - Ron, his wife, Lisa, and their little boy,
Shane - were all very attached to Belker and they were
hoping for a miracle. I examined Belker and found he
was dying of cancer. I told the family there were no
miracles left for Belker, and offered to perform the
euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home.
As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they
thought it would be good for the 4 year-old Shane to
observe the procedure. They felt Shane could learn
something from the experience.
The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat
as Belker's family surrounded him. Shane seemed so
calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that I
wondered if he understood what was going on. Within a
few minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away. The
little boy seemed to accept Belker's transition
without any difficulty or confusion. We sat together
for a while after Belker's death, wondering aloud
about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than
human lives. Shane, who had been listening quietly,
piped up, "I know why." Startled, we all turned to
him. What came out of his mouth next stunned me - I'd
never heard a more comforting explanation.
He said, "Everybody is born so that they can learn how
to be good - like loving everybody and being nice,
right?" The 4 year-old continued, "Well, animals
already know how to do that, so they don't have to
stay as long."

Isn't that the truth???

Hi gang,

Boy it's great to be back and sleeping in my own bed.

Gerard took a walk in the woods last evening and ran into a large black bear. The darn thing was between him and the house. Poor guy had to back up slowly through the woods and take another path home. Next time he will take the Grizzly Pause bear spray. I sure hope it works against black bears.

Roger, it's not a good idea to mix those two meds.
http://www.systoc.com/newscomments/n...1/123101ib.htm

Hope you have an alternative.

Guess I'll run out and buy one of those Lottery tickets today. It's always fun to dream, eh?

Barb, My goodness you are traveling all over the place.
Enjoy every minute of it.

Jackie, what a nice little story. Animals are great!

Ginny, Banana Popsicles?? What an interesting plant. Can't wait to see the pictures.

Julie, hope you are feeling better

Waving to Shawnee and Loretta.

I'm off and running today.

Thanks Linda, those numbers said in no uncertain terms that ibuprofen is VERY bad with aspirin. (My pharmacist said the same thing about an hour ago.)
I never DREAMED it would actually counteract the effect of the aspirin. That means I can't ever take IBU...bummer, 3 a day (total 600 mg) works on my shoulder where 4 apirin (1300 mg.) doesn't.

I've got some OLD, OLD bottles of Nalfon and Tolectin but they are really just pricey ibu-like NSAID drugs and are probably the same damn stuff....NUTS!

Well ground zero is that I cannot take the ibuprofen because I MUST not EVER chance a clot forming on that stent...EVER!

I'm seeing my basic doctor Friday the 9th and I'll get a referral for one of your shoulder specialists Linda ...also a referral for a liver-GB scan and a peek at my lower aorta (several relatives have falled over dead from burst abdominal aortae? AND a referral back to my cardiologist for a stress-echo.... OY aren't HMO's such FUN.

Barb,
You are a busy beaver this summer...have a wonderful month or two.

I bought 21 Mega Million tickets...an all time record for an all time prize. If I win I'll take that house in the Grenadines on the island of MUSTIQUE...remember. You can all spend all or as much of the summer there that you wish...
AHHHH, another LC Margarita anyone? Just ask Juan (he's the muscular one in the thong.)

http://www.caribbeanway.com/villa-page/ind/105216.asp

I've got a tensor unit for my back...I used it on my shoulder yesterday and it seems to help. Good to interrrogate neighbors as well...I make them stand on a bucket ...WHOSE doggy doo is that in the hallway...TALK!

Off to the gym.

Hi to all

Jackie your DGD is such a doll, don't know how I managed to make her a pre teen. The age she is at now is most enjoyable.

I have been shopping most of the morning and want to get started on the house here shortly. I can only stay for a minute or so.

back Barb. Too bad you are taking off again you sweet even tempered gal. Glad that you found some rx that works for you. I think it is wonderful that help is available when someone needs it.

Zip you don't need to buy an more of those tickets. My DSister is getting met the winning ticket. Too bad about the ibus, I really prefer taking them over tylenol for even a headache. Geesh I'll have to tell DH doc about the ibus and that ASA. He takes one ASA and about 8 200mg ibuprofens a day for his arthritis. His stent is about 4 yrs olds now. He does not take any other blood thinner except for the asa. My brother takes a blood thinner daily
(Plavix?) I think.

Yeah Ginny more orkids pics. Such sweet smiling faces.

Shawnee my cookies were just the one with almond, oat and flax meal flour. Not sure of the name. They have a little cinnamon, nuts butter. I call them almond cookies but they are not the same as Linda's amond cookies. No peanut butter in them.

Suzy is standing behind be raring to go.

I CAN'T BELIEVE I'VE DONE THAT! MY LAST DAY AT WORK FOR 2 MONTHS! Sheeesh! What a luxury, I hope I can enjoy it, right now I can't let myself go!

DD is having an early evening out tonight with her DH a patio meal out. It is gorgeous and sunny out. She had her hair done this aft, so she is all set now for the baby's arrival. It is Canada Day tomorrow, so fireworks going off here too!

There is an amazing celebration here but the crowds are horrendous! I love the fly by in the morning by the "snowbirds" they fly over our house around 11a.m. coloured stream of exhaust. That is the best sight for me.

Glad to see all the kids are back in the fold!
Gotta go supper is almost ready.

Susun,

How EXCITING ..

It looks like EVERYbody is jettisoning work (a moment of mourning for our poor Ginny!)

Loretta,
Here's a big web site on the subject of ASA vs. IBU's:
http://content.nejm.org/cgi/content/...e79b999b1d0291

I guess I'll try 8 aspirin a day (and I SHOULD take a week or two off the gym also...or at least the upper body!)

G'Night!

Haven't had chance to read but Rogers reply. I just want to say, I shouldn't have asked about the meds. My Dr. and I are working on getting me back to "normal" again. I also have to worry about what drugs cause more RLS, as many make it worse. This is NOT a 2 week ordeal I'm going through. My DGS will be living here for quite some time. It's my choice as he needs a 2nd chance and it's either here or the streets. I know you all don't understand and can't expect you too. Just remember we are all different with different needs. I am very fragil and sensitive now so if I took this statement all out of contex, I'm sorry.

Hi again,

Oh Julie, you did take that out of context. Roger is just telling you what can happen to some people on that class of drugs. We all understand you are going through some tremendous stress right now, but things will get better. You are a saint for taking such good care of your DGS. ((( )))

Susan, enjoy your new found freedom. Hopefully that baby will arrive soon so you can relax and enjoy.

Roger, you might as well get everything checked out to relieve your mind. AND yes that shoulder needs some prompt attention by a good Ortho.
LOL You, Loretta and I are going to share that huge prize because I want to live in that villa.

We had a lot of excitement here tonight. About 6:30 this evening I looked out the patio door and saw a HUGE black bear right on our front lawn near the windows of our walk out basement. Gerard was down there on the computer so I yelled for him to get the camera, by the time he got up here, nervous as hell, the bear was standing by our truck. He tried to take a picture but got the flower pots on the deck instead. The bear wandered over to our storage shed and then into the woods.
Here are some pictures. Bet he weighed at least 350 lbs. Keep in mind that our shed is at least 10 x 10 and the push mower is a good sized one. The burn barrel is a 55 gal drum. ( just to give you an idea of proportions)

You're right Linda, I did overreact. My Dr. gave me all the info and warnings about the drug and I have also checked it out on the net. He warned me of all the side affects and so did the pharmacist. I am well aware of the side effects and will be careful. No drug is without side effects or perfectly safe.

Great pics of the bears.

SHEEESH! Linda, What a shock to see that fellow so close to your home and hubby!
Fab Pics, did you send them to your local TV show? They pay something for them. It will help pay for the gas to the pigroast possibly.

Julie,
So glad you have a good rapport with your doc. I agree with Linda that you are an Angel to take on your DGS. It is tough, but when it is family what else can we do. That is why God put Grandmothers here right! Sending special prayers and hugs your way!

Jacki,
What a thought provoking story. Thank you for posting here. I have sent it on to several pet owners.

Roger,
If ya bought 21 tickets is that extra one for me?
Love that house with the houseboy, chef, etc....
Dreamy!
Just to clarify, I have one DD and one DS!

Loretta,
Hope you managed to get to the Molly stuff, house chores that is.
Ginny's hidey hole sounds like a good place to hang!

Ginny,
Mmmmmm! Banana cream popsicles, yummy!
Yep, tell DH to take more pics!

Waving to Barb on her way thru!
