Shopping in maintenance

Okay, you guys. I dont' want to post this elsewhere because I don't want people thinking I'm whining about being too small!!

I had an appointment yesterday and realized I only have two pair of dress pants that fit me. I put on my size 6 black pants, and they are too big now! Woo hoo. Or so I thought.

I was able to stop at a mall and picked up a pair of size 4 Dockers pants. Nice black pants that can be worn with a sweater or blouse and blazer......

I put them on and showed my BF last night and he said "hun, they are way too big". Honestly, I didn't think so at first, but I realized he was right because they do stretch a bit like jeans after you wear them awhile.

Here's my b1tch about it. Where do you find size 2 pants?? I have rarely seen them anywhere and am really getting frustrated. Most stores I shop at (WalMart, JC Penney, Boston Strore) do not carry pants in size 2; everything is 4-16.

I was told by both my BF and megananne (from the exercise board) that I may have to bite the bullet and pay more for higher quality clothes. That just SO goes against my grain! I am not one for designer fashions-I don't pay a lot for clothes because frankly, nobody sees the label on the inside of my waistband anyway!

Has anyone found clothing at cheaper stores that comes in size 2?

And please don't say "Oh, boo hoo. Big problem to have". This is really disenheartening to me.

Ok, first let me get this out of my system: YOU'RE UPSET BECAUSE YOUR SIZE 4S ARE TOO BIG?!?

Thank you, I'm over it now. You can find size 2s at Old Navy for pretty reasonable prices. The problem I have is finding long sizes. I wear a 6 or a 4, but they're almost always too short. I've found that Old Navy and the Gap are just about the only place I can find pants that fit that are also long enough. I know the prices are still higher than Wal-Mart, but sometimes you can find good sales. Besides, if you invest in 1 pair of good quality pants in black, navy and khaki you can mix and match different tops and get a lot of outfits out of them.

Old Navy and the Gap. I'll check them out. Thank you. ON is where I got some jean shorts. I didn't realize they sold nicer pants than jeans.

See...I KNEW you'd all think I'm a nutcase. But gee, I don't really want to have to GAIN weight to find pants that fit!! And I can't afford to spend $80 a pair. I guess I'll just have to have less clothing, but better fitting ones.

I have the opposite problem Julia. I'm not tall OR short. Well, I'm short at 5'3", but petite pants are too short and regular ones are too long. I always buy the too long ones-not too much flooding in Wisconsin.

I hear you. It is a problem I have too. I found a Size 0 pair of Liz Claiborne pants at Marshalls for less than $20.00. On occasion I will find Size 2's at Rich's which are reasonably priced; around $25.00. I'm a little shorter than you and have also bought Size 12 & 14 pants in the Children's Dept. of places like Kohls and Walmart. Happy Shopping.

Thanks!

My sons size 14 pants do fit, but they are those huge legged ones lol. And a little short. Boys size 14 lol.

The other problem I have is juniors sizes don't fit me well. My outter thighs are too big! The waist and hips are always way too big on the pants that fit my thighs.

Sorry Jill - I couldn't resist teasing you a little bit, but I do know what you mean. I'm finding that size 6 pants are too big in the hips and thighs but just right in the waist and size 4's are just right in the hips and thighs but too tight in the waist. I guess my waist will always be proportionally a little bigger because of having three kids. I used to have the same problem with size 16's!

Julia, don't worry-I can take it! I had to post it here, though. I could never bring myself to complain about it to anyone in real life without risking a big time flame! LOL

I too had the same problems in a size 16! Too big in the waist. Can I blame my saddlebags on the two kids, too? LOL

You can also try consignment shops. Never know what they'll have, and the better ones only take in current styles so you don't have to deal with a bunch of junk. You may be able to get on a 'calling list' that they can notify you if something in your size comes in.

Oh, boo hoo. Big problem to have. *rolls eyes*

just teasing ya

Size 2 at Old Navy or Gap might fit you too big. You may need a 0 there because of their "vanity sizing". I say this because the last time I shopped at ON was a few years ago and size 4 was huge when I wasn't near a 4 in other brands.
You can find small sizes at Express for about $40, or try Ross, Marshalls, and TJMaxx.

Why don't you try shopping in the juniors department in the mall. Jc penny and filenes carry a large selection of nice clothes and the sizes are smaller than womens sizes.
Bootleg styles are back, so they won't all be flared leg either! Just check it out.

I guess I could try again. I've never been able to fit into junior's sizes because of my saddlebags! Ugh. The ones that fit my thighs are always hugely gaping in the waist. But maybe now that I workout a lot they would fit better.

Oh well. Back to the mall to return the ones I got and check out the junior's!

Thanks for all the tips you guys. I don't know what I would do without this board!

The thing I don't like about Junior pants is most of them are so low at the waist/hip area. I like my pants to fit at the waist. I don't like having that gap between my waist and lower hip; the flabby tummy area in my case.

Me too, Ann. I like very few styles I see in the juniors department. We older ladies just don't look good in hip huggers and midriff tops I mean really, who wants to see that?

Yeah, that's another good point. I'm 38 years old with a 14 y/o. I'm kinda past the hip hugger look! But I do love boot cut jeans. I think they are sooo flattering. But the low rise jeans look horrible w/a top tucked in. You have NO waist whatsoever with that look!
*sigh* I'll keep looking.
