VINTAGE Maintainers Saturday 26/6

Good Morning Magnificient Ones!

Another sunny day up here. DH and his friend are putting the hardwood floors in today.......... bang, bang! Oliver is hiding from the noise. He is on my shoulders right now as I type.

I was thinking yesterday as I wrote the date the 25th, that we are 6 months to Christmas Day, so today will be Boxing Day. Does that mean we can start shopping? LOL!

We have 6 months to make a change in a clothes size if we want to......like that little black dress for New Years! Just planning ahead.

My goal is to continue to eat healthier and to incorporate more physical activity. The Water....the elixir of life (sp) is that the right quote.

A BIG THANK YOU to Shawnee for helping me to draft out a "request letter" for my extended leave of absence. So looking forward to two months off work, July and August Yipppppeeee!
I should plan for this each year, maybe I should re-train as a teacher? for my older years.

I hope to check back later as more of you guys check in.
Happy Saturday!

Hi Susun,

Nope, the elixir of life is definitely BEEFEATER GIN! Water comes in NINTH! I'll bet that floor will be lovely. What is the material?

We had some very heavy storms last night and we needed it bad. After a cool morning we are into a tropical stewpot this afternoon.

I've been looking at a bag of "bean thread" for about a year now and I decided to get off the pot and DO something or toss it. It's rolled and dried sheets of soy flour/protein. I dutifully reconstituted it in water and am cooking it in some canned broth now.
So far it is a charmless product with no taste and the texture od squid (boingy to the teeth...like tender rubber bands.) It was cheap! Maybe the broth will transform it into lobster meat? Fat chance; more likely it will transform it into the toilet bowl!

Bob to the ballet today. The NYC Ballet usually bores me because I don't like Diagilev's choreography and that's the core of their work. I've got the 4 hour Salem's lot that you-know-who-who-isn't-here recommended ! That should take care of my night!

Off to the gym (let THEM pay for the air-conditioning!)

A nice weekend to all.
Tomorrow after the movie we will catch the tail end of the NYC Gay Pride March and Rally! Calling for nice weather and it's always fun (if insanely crowded with 1/2 million people- no exaggeration!)

Hi Roger,

Not sure where everyone is, I guess they are out enjoying the sunshine today.
The floors are Ash I think in a high gloss cinnamon color. I will attempt to take a digital pic and post? I might need help!

Here is some food for thought......Splenda is a Winner!

High sugar diets are usually high junk diets. In other words, the diets tend to be high in refined flour and refined oil as well as refined sugar. An example would be the pancakes served to participants in an event held here recently to raise money for cancer research. Many of these people were cancer survivors or the relatives of cancer victims. Yet they enthusiastically gobbled down pancakes made from white flour, soaked with super-heated vegetable oil, topped with margarine and drenched in sugar syrup. No other "food" could be as deadly, not even French fries.

See the following two articles re sugar-junk and breast cancer mortality:

Hey gang,

Just started reading the posts from late this week and noticed a little discrepancy. Zip, your pic of the violacea you posted is gorgeous, however it is not violacea v murtoniana 'Leprechaun'. It is a pic of phalaenopsis bellina (formerly classified as a violacea v. borneo) but still gorgeous none the less. We have several, and they're blooming/starting to bloom.

Here, y'all, is the 'Leprechaun' in full glory from my greenhouse:

Not only do you get those beautiful blooms, the fragrance is to DIE for!

Gonna go catch up........

Hi Y'all

Magnificient day here, and we enjoyed the heck out of it

Well,...would ya looka what the pups finally dragged in??? Our Lost Goddess is back Girl, glad we didn't have to summon the posse.
That OrKid is a stunner...add in fragrance, its an outstanding WINNER...lovely. How's Life on the ranch? I have a pic for you to enjoy later on down this post

Zip...how did your Bean Thread experiment turn out? Is that stuff like noodles? Did ya ever do the Split Peas? I froze half my pot; love that stuff. Enjoy your Salem night

SuSUN, ...*tick*-*tock*....we're all ready whenever Ella is
Thanks for those links. I couldn't get into the second one.
You can lead 'em to better alternatives, but ya can't make 'em accept them.
You're welcome, and Good Luck with your request.

Jacki...all your shovel work is sure paying off Lookin' good! I moved some roses a few months back; lot of work, but they finally recovered and are doing nicely after pouting for awhile. I really soaked their roots before I dug them up.
Glad ya liked the homemade Yoggie...kinda thought ya would...but didn't you get a bit of gritty texture in the Biscuits? Bob ate his like a starving hound.

Loretta, is this your "Company's coming" time?

We went for a Country tour today, backroads Northward to old towns. Brekkie at a restaurant we'd remembered from our last jaunt up that way...then went to another small town parade; yes we are addicted to them

Here ya go, a classic shot of a horse rump..for YOU, Ginny ...an old 1930's Teardrop trailer (precurser of our travel trailers and mobile homes)...and a locomotive housed on a truck chassis, its been from Anchorage to Arizona.

Ok, I think I've caught up

Been a busy couple days, with miscellaneous running here and there, the gh, work, etc. National Repotting Month (in our gh) has started, and we're working on the phals right now. DH got lots done this week (other job didn't pan out, so still looking for something that is forklift WITHOUT requiring packaging and other assorted junk they don't tell you about) and we got more done today. Tomorrow will see hopefully the last of the 4" phals done. Then we're off to other genera, including the sale plants that are outgrowing their pots.

Zip, so you enjoy a good t-storm too? Sleeping to the rumble of thunder is great! Of course then the steambath occurs, and we certainly have our share of that here too.

Shawnee, glad your flour FINALLY arrived! Biscuits look great, and it's been a LOOOOOONG time since I had a real one. Love the pics, and that is quite a nice looking rump on that horse....my mare is easily that big, but not so muscled LOL!

Loretta, I'd really have to think to come up with a 'favorite' bad word....I'd probably use yours, but my arsenal (especially with work frustrations) is rather extensive Sometimes I even make the guys do double takes. I reckon I'm nothing if not creative LOL

Susan, not much longer for Ella's arrival. When do you find out about your extended leave? Yikes! I don't even want to think about Christmas yet....too busy enjoying the warm summer weather to even consider the cold months! I will have to start plotting though, as some are harder to buy for every year.

Julie, hope the sleep aids work for you. I stay away from that stuff, can't hardly take a benadryl without falling asleep! Of course, if I wasn't sleeping like I should, I'd probably need it, but I'm really a lightweight as far as anything that can make me drowsy. Get what you need to help you through the stress, and then when it's all said and done, you'll be fine.

Jacki, I sure envy you your summer off! Now we need more pics of your yard and all you've been playing with!

Anyone heard from Barb? Hey to all, hope everyone's weekend is happy and relaxing!
