Vintage Maintainers' Wednesday
Hi everybody,
Air conditiner overnight...that bedroom 12,000 BTU's unit is JUST too damn big (and loud) to work properly in an 11x19 room!!! But there's nothing I can do about it except ask for a new one....THEY are 15,000 BTU/hr!! I guess I'll just have to eat the added expense of using the LR A/C with a fan blowing into the bedroom...THEN the 12,000 is sized just right for nighttime temperatures but is pricey because it runs nearly continuously and is landlorly inefficient! YAAAYYY Yahoo...got an e-mail today saying that the YAHOO PLUS (needed for POP mail- $19.95/yr) has increased mail storage from a palty 6 Mb to a MASSIVE 2Gb...that a 300-fold increase...NOW I can take Susun's wall-sized photos Shop-Rite and a nice workout today (boobs getting shapely and hard!) Soup is basically rinse a pound of dried split peas and drain. Add 7 cups water and bring to a boil...skim scum! Add 2 bay leaves 1/2 tsp oregano Finely chopped onion, carrot and 2 ribs celery (leaves are tasty) 3 whole cloves 4 bouillon cubes...no other salt needed. 1/2 tsp MSG (optional - who said I wasn't a FREETHINKER )Pepper Simmer 2 hours in a heavy pot (prevents scorching...stir occasionally). Remove cloves and bay leaves and puree with a "wand mixer thingy" til smooth Taste for seasoning! Crusty bread good with it and it's a whole meal (if you eat enough) Serves 3 generously...or 2 pigs! (Warning: not really low carb but it sure is the highest fiber food I've ever come across and the carbs that ARE there are probably lower glycemic than any other common American food...perhaps only Chana daal is lower and that's hardly a staple except in India) ![]()

Hey all,
Had some surprise company yesterday! Well, it wouldn't have been a surprise if the phone would have been working right...they were doing something on the lines I think so I missed the 'warning' call! My Mom's cousin and his wife are moving from Maryland to just about 30 miles from us. They've had the property for about 10 years, and are finally making the move! It will be fun to have them here ![]() The roast was a beef roast, not sure which cut, but it was a big'un. I used some season salt, Canadian steak seasoning, killed off the last of a bottle of worchestershire sauce and finished up with a good amount of Moore's meat marinade (similar to Dale's). I let the meat swim in that for about 16 hours, then slapped it on the grill. Only turn on one burner and put it on low, and put the meat on the side that's off so it slowwwwww cooks. Took about 3 hours. Roast was about 1' long x 10" wide and about 2" thick. If I'd have had more time, it would have been more tender, but I had to speed it up for the last hour on med. low heat just so we could eat. Sooooo, the flavor was excellent, not dry at all, but a little more chewy than I'd have liked. Next time I'll marinade for 24 hours and plan cooking time @ 4 hours...see where that gets me. Off to lurk for a bit, so hope everyone is having a wonderful day!

Hi to all
We are living in a rain forest here in KY. Such high humidity and more rain last night and more in the forecast for several days. Some called SCATTERED STORMS and others called ISOLATED STORMS Took the bait Shawnee and made the Bread Pudding. Guess I tried too hard to lower the fat and did not come up with an acceptable dish. I did eat part of it though. I used 2 egg whites, instead of the whole egg. And tried to use some yoggie with a little cream mixed in for the topping. Maybe needs some refining. I think I forgot the butter too. It was no where near the original recipe. Ginny are you using a propane grill? What a great idea to slow cook it by putting it on the unused grill side. Did you wrap it in foil? I might try my cornish hen out there like that. Sure hope that Suprise company did not surprise you too much. That is great that you will have them living close by, but not that close. Zip thanks for that recipe for the soup. DH and I eat a lot of soup. Do you not have Central Air in your unit? Sounds like not. Hard to get quiet and the right temp. I like the noise though and run a fan for the noise mostly. Wanted to wash more windows today but it is so humid I will play at Suzy stuff inside the house. Linda those Adirondack chairs would be perfect for some flower treatments. Sorry to hear that those patients are difficult. You will really appreciate not have to work. Jackie you are almost home free. How sweet these days will be knowing that you are almost at the end.SuSun are you being busy with work and getting caught up before your time off? How about your toast masters, anything going on there? Later folks Loretta |

Hi everybody,
Roger, thanks for the soup recipe. I'll be happy to try it even though it's rather high in carbs. The fiber will more than make up for it though. Besides those things are allowed on maintenance. We don't have central air either but use two 12,000 BTU window units in the two large (13 x19 ) bedrooms upstairs. If we leave the doors open, those air conditioners cool the entire house. We do have a smaller unit that we are going to put in the basement even though it's much cooler down there. Yahoo also increased our freebie e mail storage space yesterday too. It's going to make it much better for all of us. Ginny, That roast sounds very much like our "London Broil" roast. I think it's a bottom round or something like that. Tough cut of beef but if cooked slowly, it gets tender. I'll have to look for Moore's or Dale's marinade but don't know if we have it here. Humm, maybe I can pick some up in Tenn. next week. Hope your relatives are going to see quite a difference in real estate taxes there. We are going to look around in the area after the Pig Roast. Loretta, Our weather sounds very much like yours. Scattered showers, Isolated severe thunder storms, sheesh!! Every Night!! Gotta get more flowers, maybe tomorrow, to decorate those chairs but I best get another coat of stain on them first. Sorry your "bread pudding" didn't come out quite right. I need to try it soon. Jackie, how many more days till freedom? Susan, how is DD feeling? Shawnee, Yes I will get my butt in gear and make some of your creations, I promise. Might even take one to the Pig roast.Gotta go get dinner. More later. |

And we've gotten no rain at all...for WEEKS!
All the new plantings, impatiens and violas are dying because the aspwipes (snake cleaners ) down here are too stupid to turn on the sprinklers.Ginny, that sounds like a top round cut for London Broil though lately they've been passing off shoulder cuts (like they're kidding anyone.) Unless fast broiled (or long braised into a pot roast) they ALWAYS get tough...and the longer you grill them the tougher they get. Best is to scorch them black in 5 minutes and slice thin with bloody middles...then they can sometimes come out like prime rib! Gym was fun...easy chest and arm day and a lollygag at the pool reading Paul Krugman's new book THE GREAT UNRAVELLING! (He's a Princeton economist/NY Times editorialist and right up my alley.) Then a jacuzzi/sauna/steam/shower and I feel like Daisy the contented cow! Last edited by zip2play : 06-16-2004 at 03:45 PM. |

Hi Ya!
I apologise that I did not make it yesterday. The end of the day and I am tired agin. The PG Moms group ended today. I only have to work tomorrow then that is this week over! Gorgeous sunny with blue skies up here again. Tomorrow will be a hot one up to 29C, then I think we are going to cool down into the teens. DD is still feeling great, but not sleeping too well, cuz she can't lie back, affects her breathing and her groins are sore at night after being upright all day. Just the usual last weeks discomfort. Thanks for asking Linda. Jacki, Are you finished now till September? Or do you still have a few days to countdown? I still have 6 more to go! I may have to go Garage salin to pick up an old chair! Ginny, DD will take a year off! They are paid for a year now all new Moms Gov't tops up their pay. She might not go back for a couple of years, if they try for another. Did the Pups enjoy their breakfast? Is that the Montreal steak spices that you used. I like that too! Loretta, Are you playing the tooth fairy or the fairy Godmother? LOL! That is adorable that she rolls over on her own already. She must be a strong liitle one. I do have a speech to prepare for TMs for next Monday, not sure if I will be ready. I have already cancelled the last two. I haven't been for ages now. Thanks for asking. Linda, Tough group you have. I used to work with psych patients years back. More recently, about 4 years ago, I used to do a quit smoking group for them too. I had 21 in the group, mostly outpatients though, so the meds were managing their symptoms. They were a handful but just trying to make their way in the world, like the rest of us. Shawnee, Wow, I couldnt believe my eyes! "Bread and Butter Puddin!" That's an old English recipe too. There is another really good one similar to that. I think they call it Poor Man's Puddin! Served with fresh cream and syrup, so we could subsitute with Davinci or my Maple one. Roger, The soup sounds wonderful, hearty and lots of fibre for sure! The Gym-Spa visit sounds heavenly, no wonder you are one contented cow! Did I say that or you? LOL!So your book is all fact and no fiction? Are ya gonna be a rich man oneday? Does he give tips? Glad ya can open my wall sized pics now! Feelin tired agin! May have a snooze-nap or just zone out with the TV. SuSUN! |

Hi everyone. One more day at the salt mines to go!!!
Susan, your poor daughter. I rememeber that discomfort. Soon tho she'll be cuddling a sweet little bundle. My grson graduated from elementary school monday. Here's a pic of him taking his turn at the microphone. They each told their name and what they want to be when they grow up. He wants to be an Army Man. ![]() Last edited by JackiCWa : 06-16-2004 at 08:32 PM. |

Hi everybody,
We got home a few hours ago, cleaned out the 5th wheel, washing clothes, watching the Mariners and trying to catch up on the posts. I think it's impossible though. So will wing it!! We sure had a nice time. Weather was for rain all 3 days and got surprised with fairly nice stuff. Sun breaks for 2 days and today close to 80. So we can't complain. It was restful and am now ready to face some more challenges. Loretta, thanks for asking how I was holding up. I am, some days better than others but am doing quite well considering I don't do stress!!!! LOL This is quite an undertaking but feel I didn't have a choice. Here or the streets (which wouldn't have given him any chance at all) He's a good kid really. Even told me he loved me out camping right in front of his friends. Now how many 18 yo boys would do that? Dr. note to me about my LDL was ... he didn't recomend the Lecithin but did say, no smoking, (which I don't) and low fat and exercise. So guess I'll be trying your woe and trying to get some serious walking in along with my Curves. I loved the pic of your new rocking chair planter. Wow, such creativity you have. Linda, didn't know you will be gone for awile. You'll be glad to know, Nick has had very little fluctuations in his moods since he's been here. They are keeping him on the Neurontin for now until he feels he needs different meds. Maybe gettting away from home has improved his moods. Shawnee, sure enjoyed the bun recipe. I do eat a bread that only has 13 carbs with 4g of fiber for breakfast EVERY morning. So far it's not made me gain. It's a sprouted bread. Ginny, nice of you to inquire about how our trip was going. Sure is nice to know someone is missing you. Thanks sweetie. That roast sounded so good. We do everything on the ole BBQ. Cornish game hens are excellent too. We split them. Turkeys are wonderful and cook them just like you did the roast. With one burner off I mean. Edited to say Jacki, such cute kids. Sorry I missed you. Tomorrow is D day for you. Enjoy!!!!!! SuSun, awile back I put my exp. date down as either July 7th or 8th. Lets make it July 7th!!! Nothing better than being a gramma!!!! Roger, thanks for replies on AdAware. it's working fine. Spybot doesn't catch anything now. LOL Stay cool guy!! Catch ya later........

back Julie. Glad you had such a good and relaxing time. How cool that DGS expressed his love for you out there in public for all to hear. Wow. He sounds like a great kid. You are sure doing something right. Aww Jackie, those dear grand brats of yours are so cute, and I love the little fur baby too. Susan, when are you going to give up that job and relax a bit? Glad dd is hanging in there but sure do remember those last few weeks. UGH!! Guess that's why we old broads can't have babies anymore. Can you just imagine? Roger, duh!! Top round it is. I should have known that but yeah, they are passing off tough crap for those. Bloody inside and scorched outside is the BEST! Yummm How about a picture of those firm pecs ? ![]() Shawnee, I'm with you on the chunks of ham in that soup. Gotta have that protein. AND the eggs, butter and cream in that puddin. If there is time tomorrow I will go look at some flowers to plunk in the chairs. We shall see but don't bet the bank on it. Ya know how darn lazy I am about that stuff. A few minutes ago I smelled a strong odor of SKUNK!! We had the door open and one must have wandered on the deck or up the driveway. I'm about to GAG and need to go turn the fan on exhaust to get the stink out. ![]() |

OH, Lordy Montana
![]() That is one stinky situation...hope ya go that problem eliminated. Loretta...LC, LF bread pudding is a real pain, darn it! Most of the LF recipes are BIG in carbs. I'd suggest using some LC bread, or homemade LC muffins...to sub in for the raisin bread in this recipe, plus add in nutmeg. (I'd kill for a piece of RAISIN Bread, boo hoo) Low Fat Bread Pudding (NUKER recipe) ![]() serves 4 2 c skim milk 1/2 cup egg beaters 10 single serving packages of sweet and low *(or Splenda) 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1/4 teaspoon salt 4 slices raisin bread cubes * (cubed LC bread or muffins) 2 teaspoons of butter or margarine Combine milk, eggs, sugar, cinnamon and salt in a 2 quart microwave safe casserole dish. Beat with mixer Stir in bread cubes, dot with butter Microwave 26 to 28 minutes on Medium (simmer) or until almost set in center. Let stand 5 minutes, to serve cut into 4 pieces ........................................ |
