Overate lowcarb 'stuff" :(
HI you guys. COnfession time here
![]() I am proud to say I had been 'cheatfree" since starting Atkins on July 13,2003. I havent let ONE MORSEL of any high carb food pass my lips including any kind of sugar, flour, bread, pasta, rice etc. etc. I have to confess though that I HAVE overindulged on some lowcarb 'products over the course of the 11 1/2 months. Recently I got 'seduced" by the pint of KETO brand icecream called "chunky monkey"?! --not sure the exact name but.. trust me it was E--V-I-L!!---- Before I bought it I told myself I 'deserved it" because Id been 'so good" and was below my goal weight...blah blah. Anyway....I bought a pint of it and noticed it was GONE in 2 days! YIKES! It sort of reminded me of the way I used to eat PRE Atkins. (I used to have mini 'binges" a lot prior to Atkins so this brought back bad memories to me.) This feeling of being out of control and controlled by food! I also had pretty bad gas afterwards and have since gained a few pounds. It seems my cravings have been moreso than normal since this episode and all Ive wanted to is KEEP EATING!! Thus far Ive only overindulged on 'lowcarb" stuff but Im feeling a wee bit 'out of control" now. I thought my cravings were lifted FOREVER but I see this is not the case! I am also going thru some major life changes lately : 1) my boyfriend was let go at work so I am supporting HIm now thru my art business 2) We decided abruptly to sell our condo and move out of Vegas------- so Im busy packing boxes and more boxes!! 3) In a few days Ill be driving my 2 cats across country and Im a wee bit stressed about their reaction to it all! Anyway.........perhaps Im into 'comfort eating" because of all of these life changes!? Any suggestions anyone?? LOL Michelle in Vegas (soon to be MichelleLeftVegas!?)

! Don't beat yourself up about the ice cream. My God, you've been on this way of eating for a year and you've done so well. You're bound to make a mistake now and then. Just chalk it up to experience. Remember the way it made you feel - that out of control feeling - and that should keep you from doing it again. It does sound like you're going through a bit of a stressful time in your life right now. Try getting more exercise and make sure you have good food choices around so you're not tempted to grab something bad for you in a weak moment. Hang in there and you'll get through this rough patch. A little tip on transporting your kitties - I had to haul my cat from KY to NC when we moved here. Its an 8-hour car trip and she HATES the car. I got a pill from the vet that sedated her but did not knock her out. She was sort of half asleep during the whole ride and after we arrived she recovered from the drug within about 4-5 hours. I would suggest you get something like that for your kitties. Good luck! Julia

Hey, we've all been there and done that. You are doing fine and will not only rebound from it all, your will survive. I've had a couple of bouts with the ice cream myself. You are a woman on a mission, just don't give up. Granny

I sure can relate to your ice cream, my favorite food!!!!!!!!
You know what? We don't learn unless we make mistakes. It's over, done with now learn and go on. You can't change the past but you can change the future. Now you know, don't buy it again. I always say I'll have just 1/2 cup, Ha! It just doesn't happen so I cannot have it in the house. Come and vent if it will help. When urges hit, take a quick hard walk around the block if you can. Take care, you're worth it.

Ditto the above.
Low carb treats, especially those made with a sugar alcohol, are disastrous to some on low carb plans. The sugar alcohols can spike some people's insulin and cause those darn cravings, not to mention the digestive disturbances so get that stuff out of your life. Good luck with the move, and do get something from the vet to calm the poor kittys. |

thanx you guys!
Thanx so much for your respones. I just arrived in Louisville Kentucky. My cats are FINE. (We did give them this great drug from the vet which tranquilized them and they did amazingly well!)
ME on the other hand.. I feel really 'out of sorts", and pretty bummed!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We mainly ate at truck stops and out of 'coolers" because we didnt want to leave our kitties for too long. When I got here to my boyfriends parents I got on their scale and it looked like I gained 7 lbs!!??! YIKES!!!!!!!!!!! Before I left I weighed 131.. It looks like I weigh 138 on this scale! I definitely ate very oddly on this trip. (Lots of protein ..very few veggies, quite a few lowcarb 'bars" etc. but 7 lbs?!!!) SIGH............... FIrst of all do you think my boyfriends parents scale can differ that much from mine?? (They are both the regular kind not the digital scales). Secondly...HELP ME get back on track!!!! Do you all suggest i go back to induction level carbs for awhile?? or..just start at 25-30 carbs!? This is the first time Ive GAINED weight since starting this WOL on July 13,2003 and Ive been cheatfree since beginning...so needless to say Im pretty bummed. Thanx for your suggestions. Hey Michelle,
First off, you've done a great job! Second, use one scale and only one scale for your weigh-in as every one will read different. Remember, household scales are not calibrated, so you can have major fluctuations. After a trip like that it isn't unusual to be up a bit, but if you take a couple days and eat fairly strict then it will come back off quick. A good portion may be water retention from the change in your eating. Just eat clean for 2-3 days, drink lots of water, find your own scale, and you should be just fine. Good luck in KY--you're probably not TOO far from me in TN!
