VINTAGE MAINTAINERS SATURDAY JUNE 11

Well hi and welcome to Saturday.

Gonna make that hamburger bun today and give it a taste test this evening. Very hot and humid here, guess most of the USA is having above normal temps. Things sure are growing nicely. The toms are getting bigger and more of them.

Linda did you get your patio plants potted? They should be doing well by now.

Julie sometimes we just have to let the steam out. I think it is good to vent but sorry that Chuck got in the way. I always used to hold back on the venting but I think it is more healthy as long as it is forgotten quickly.

Any else guessing the delivery date for ELLA? We are all going to feel anxious the closer we get.

Later
Loretta

Hi Loretta,

I may just try that burger bun today too.... If I can get out of this lazy mode. Someone please kick me!! I need to finish cleaning, help Gerard stain the deck and make that Victoria Cake base for dinner tomorrow.

I still have some white impatiens to plant but did get two toms in 5 gal. buckets. Keep your fingers crossed that I don't kill them off.

Julie, hope you are feeling better today.

I'm off to get some things done but will return later.

Good Saturday Loretta, Linda and all that follow!

It is a gorgeous Sunny day up here today, blue skies and not too hot. DS called from FLA and said he could do with our cool breezes. It is hot down there!

An elderly lady in her 80's wrote back to me and said she could do the watering of the geraniums, if she could borrow my giraffe while I was away! LOL! What a great sense of humor she has.

DH is golfing today and won't be home till 8p.m. DD is dropping the dog off around 3p.m. they are having an early dinner out downtown, getting close to being their last chance. So I should be able to plough through some work, being so quiet on my own, except for Oliver and Sassy.

Loretta,
Sounds wonderful that everything is growing in your garden. Those Toms will be full and fat soon, great slices for those new "Shawnee" buns. Enjoy tonight.
I still have to get some impatiens or begonias whatever they have left at the garden centre.

Linda,
Gotta tell ya agin! YOUR new Pic is absolutely gorgeous, we can see all that great work you have done for yourself! Our pin-up gal, our role model.
Wishing yours and Gerard's chores go smoothly!

Ginny,
Glad that you are back to the normal shifts today.

Here are the dates taken so far for Ella's arrival:-
Estimated Due Date July 8th
  • Ginny - June 29th
  • Loretta - July 3rd
    SuSUN - July 4th
  • Shawnee - July 6th

Any more takers?

So glad to have a "free day."
Wishing you ALL a great Saturday!

Will be back later!

SuSUN!

SuSun, yep, count me in for July 7th. Enjoy your day alone. Isn't it nice sometimes to be able to just have solitude.

Linda, get off your butt!!!!!!!! I don't want to have to get out the 2x4!!!!!!!!!

Loretta, I have to put some butter in those buns or it sticks to the top of mouth their so dry. I've tried all the different ways and it does need some butter. Hope you like them. Low in carbs.

Thanks everyone, I do feel better today. Venting is good sometimes and I really needed to. Day is behind me so onward we go.

Today is groceries and packing for a short camping trip. Will be back on Wed. We'll be close to Nick's work so can run him over when he has to work. It will be good to just get away and walk on the beach, sit by the campfire and stare. 2 other couples are going to. Will think of all of you.

So how do you think I did here??

Cholesterol...229 Not very good
HDL...83 good
Ratio...2.8 Not bad huh?
Triglycerides....61
LDL...134 too high

Seems some are good and some are not so good. Anybody got any opinions on it?

Julie those numbers are pretty darn good. My last total cholesterol was 305. Your only number not that good is the LDL at 134 but that is not too bad. Your ratio is good.

Well the final verdict on the hamburger bun is in. No way by any stretch of my imagination does that bun taste any thing like a hamburger bun. I guess I am so used to eating just the patty with onions and mushrooms on it that I find the "bun" so much extra to chew. It also hides the real flavor of the burger.
Not sure what the rave is all about
I'd rather save those carbs for something else. Hey I gave it a try.

Finally getting back on line. We stained most of the 12 x 32 ft. deck and most of the 4 x 30 section but ran out of stain. UGH. The place that sells Cabot's brand is closed tomorrow so no more until Monday. Bet it will RAIN. LOL

Susan, LOL pretty soon they will be dropping the baby off for you to sit with so they can go out. Bet you will really enjoy that.

Thanks for the compliment on my picture. UGH my hair is a total mess but oh well, I don't really care.

Loretta, Humm, I was going to make them tonight but got busy with so much else that I didn't have time. So you don't recommend them, eh?

Julie, your numbers aren't bad at all, especially your ratios. Ratios are the important thing. although there are a few Doctors out ther who don't think cholesterol plays a part in heart disease.. Also LDL has both good and bad components. Did you get a break down of that?( most labs don't do it unless you ask your doctor to order it.) Mine is about 4 points higher than yours and my doc isn't worried a bit.

Remember too that total cholesterol is meaningless. Again mine is higher than yours.

Enjoy that camping trip. We used to love sitting around a camp fire at night just staring at the flames. Unfortunately my allergies don't allow me to enjoy that little pleasure any longer.

Hope Ginny is catching up on her rest.

Shawnee, are you working in your garden?

Where is that Roger? Bet he is enjoying this lovely east coast weather.

Later gang.

Julie, ( and others) you may want to ask your doctor to order this VAP test.

Hey all,

We had the farrier out today, luckily before the t-storms hit. Ponies were a bit on the more antsy side, especially Mr. Magic Man! Torchy is so laid back all the time that not much phases her. With the air pressure changes before a storm, animals can be quite affected, and horses being flight animals will get the jitters (even the best trained ones can do this). Anyways, the ponies got done just fine, with minimal fuss, and will be fine for a couple more months. Then, after a bit we decided to do some yard saling, only got to one, but were close to a nursery we like (gee, imagine that ) so we stopped in for 2 pot saucers and came home with them, 6 dipladenias in 4" pots (2 white/blush and 4 darker red than we have), and 2 of a low growing perennial silvery blue plant that I can't remember the name right now. Of course during all this, it poured rain! On the way home, the lower radiator hose busted, so DH redneck-fixed it until we got to some friends' and then the guys went and got a new one and installed it. Much better! Now we're home, the storms seem to have passed, and I don't have to water the hostas! Pups were a bit moist, they'll play in the rain (or they ain't got enough sense to get out of it LOL) and are now in the house drying off. Life is good.

Julie, I had to read your post a couple times when you mentioned driving over DGS.... I must be a bit tired! Hope you have fun on your mini-trip!

Susan, yep, you'll be babysitting soon for furkids and gkids! I just think she'll go early if she's dropped already....is she hoping for the actual due date or ?

Loretta, did you get the storms? There's more in Kansas City, looks like they may come your way so watch for them!

Linda, well, you got a good bit of that deck done. How long does it take to dry? You'll do fine with your new plants, and there's plenty of gardeners to help you out

Zip, Shawnee, Jacki and everyone else have a great weekend!

Loretta, sorry the buns didn't turn out to your liking. I haven't tried them as actual buns yet but liked them split and toasted.
You do have high Cholesterol #'s.

Linda, no I didn't get a break down of the LDL. So how do you lower the LDL? I'm not too concerned cause my ratio is excellent.
Sorry you couldn't get that deck finishied. Crossing fingers on keeping the rain away.

Ginny, hehehe guess I was in a hurry with that post. After these past 3 weeks, I wouldn't be running him over!!!!! But I would run him to work!! I love your "side tracked style."

Dinner and the theater tonight. The play was real good. Neil Simon's "Rumor." Funny and we laughed so hard our sides hurt.
Now I need to hit the sheets....
