Sunday June 6

Hi to all and a Happy Sunday, my favorite day of the week.

Jackie that fuschia is just beatiful. Thanks for the pic. The summer time board is just chocked full of wonderful sites to see.
Guess you are off now for your summer break?

Julie, Chuck's blood work is stellar. What wonderful numbers. Will be interested in yours when you get them. Glad that things are working out at home. It will take time and healing.
I tried knitting a long time ago but my work always seem to get out of porportion as I went along. Lol on Ginny's beer comments. We live in a dry county here and I still see lots of

Hi everybody,

Loretta, hard to imagine a dry county. LOL I forget that the South sometimes walks to the beat of a different drummer.

Hope your computer is working great now with all the work you did on it.
BTW people on the Golden are wondering where you are.

Shawnee, what lovely, lovely roses. AND they smell good too?? I visited a flower store and everyone of the roses I smelled didn't have much fragrance at all.

The Viili site is really interesting. It would make me nervous to leave my yogurt sit out for so long though. LOL just call me paranoid.

Roger, so what movies did you enjoy yesterday?
I'm with Shawnee and want what ever Bob eats to get some of that energy. Can't imagine how he does it.

Jackie, what a lovely fuschia. Do they take a lot of care to grow well? I've seen them around here on occasion and they have always intrigued me.

Hang in there, 9 more days isn't too bad.

Ginny, what kind of store is opening next door to you? Hope it won't spoil your lovely solitude.

Yup, retirement is looking really good to me about now. Hopefully I'll make it through Aug. but we shall see.

Julie, It's good to hear that Nick is doing well. Work should keep his mind off of his problems and occupy him.

Wow on Chuck's blood work. I just got my results and they are pretty much the same as last year except my HDL went down a few points as did my triglycerides. Humm, wonder why.

Yes the yogurt is easy to make. All you really need is a candy and oven thermometer ( dollar store) and a couple of good jars with lids.
I posted the recipe on the golden recipe sticky but I'll get it and bring it here for you.

Just going to gag some lollies today and maybe do a bit of laundry.

Here is the yogurt recipe

Homemade yogurt...

You will need:
Yogurt starter ( I use Yogourmet from the health food store or it's available on line) Guess you could try plain Dannon but I never have.

Candy thermometer

clean containers with a cover ( I use canning jars covered with foil to keep out the light )

60 Watt light bulb on a drop light...place light bulb in your oven with an oven thermometer and let the oven warm to approx. 112 to 115 degrees..

Heat 1 quart of half and half to 180 degrees on a candy thermometer....

(You can also use heavy cream for the best tasting, creamy yogurt ever or use whole milk. Believe me. half and half is best.)

rapidly cool in a sink of cold water and ice cubes to 112 degrees on the candy thermometer...remove from cold water.

Remove 1 cup of the heated half and half and add yogurt starter, whisk.. ( do this quickly ) Add back into the rest of the half and half, whisk and pour into clean containers..cover..

place in the oven to "set" for 4 1/2 to 6 hrs. depending on how tart you want it. Keeps up to three weeks in the refrigerator.

You can add splenda and your choice of flavorings or low glycemic fruit if you like.

Thanks for the yogurt recipe Linda. I sure could've gone over to the GY and got it though. LOL Sorry you are getting all that rain. You need more Vit.D kiddo. Ours is off and on but at least some on.

Yep Loretta, everybody is inquiring over on the GY for ya.

Jacki, I don't envy you having to bath a 90 # doggie. Must be a struggle. Hope he cooperates. Counting down with ya girl.

Been to the store for groceries and not sure what the rest of day will bring. Maybe just resting and gearing up for the week ahead. Loretta, Sunday is a special day huh?

Later gang...

HI again

I thought I had lost that post completely but I see part of my post appeared. We were about to leave for a celebration dinner for our pastor when I was posting and ran out of time.

Linda I checked out that Pig Roast celebration for Tenn but it is about 5 hours from here and I would not want to be gone that long from DH. He does not travel well. The site gave a lot of info on it though and was pretty thorough.

Ginny what is a dipladenias that you have for a hanging planter?
I had some lobiela (sp) mixed in with my purple wave petunias, but seems like I have killed it off. The petunias are doing fine.
WIll that new store be closer to you than a trip to town. We have some little local stores but they have higher prices but are very handy if you need something in a hurry. "the rest of my statment" was I see lots of beer cans along our roads especially after a holiday.

Shawnee what are you busy with today. or is it just a day of relaxing and reading, maybe some fishing?

L8ter g8ters Loretta

SuSUN enjoy that baby shower today. Hope DD does not get too worn out.
Zip stay away from the red licorice.

Hi y'all

RAINING!

A great day for being a bum....I'm practicing, and getting darn good at it. Bob is fishing with his buds on the Columbia...so the Chuckster and I are gagging lollies and snuggling.

Ginny, is this new store across from y'all, or on the side? It will keep the Pups overly-entertained til the new wears off. I looked up your dipladenias....NEW to this ol' farmer ...and oh, so pretty...kinda exotic-looking...(an OrKid lover would of course want them)

Loretta, how is the lovely lil Leah doing? Improving, I hope?
When DD was about 15, she got into knitting and chrocheting...she tried to teach ol' Lefty me....I thought I was doing pretty well with a simple knitting chain stitch...NOPE!...she said something about my louzy " tension" and promptly ripped out all my work ...LOL..I went back to baking cookies and forgot about yarn.... I'm blessed to have an afgan she made for me...in my fav color of Federal Blue of course.

LOL, Montana...leaving the Viili out does make one wonder...but that's the way its been done since forever. Here's something that always bugged me re Beachgirl's cheesecake instructions:

Turn oven off and leave cheesecake in until the oven is completely cool. The cheesecake can even be left overnight at this point.

With a lot of the hybrid roses, the scent has kinda been lost along the way as the breeders strive for bigger blossoms and more disease resistance.

Bob just got home from the Steelhead fishing trip...NO steelhead...but brought in a pint of Smoked Salmon in jalapena sauce! One of his friends there gave it to him.

Jacki, pretty Fushia. What was the other plant? Does Star shake IN the tub, or wait til she gets out??

Julie, I made the yoggie with stuff I had on hand. Hood's LC milk worked just fine...for the second batch, I used half-Hoods, half regular milk...you can use anything as long as its some form of milk or cream.
I used Stonyfields yoggie as a starter, again cause I already had it.
I like that it has, besides the usual complement of friendly bacteria bugs:
Stonyfield Farm is the only American yogurt with L. reuteri.
L. reuteri’s unique health benefits include the ability to fight viruses and bacteria associated with diarrhea and gastrointestinal disease, and most importantly inhibit the growth of harmful bacteria such as Salmonella, E. Coli, Staphylococcus, Candida yeast and other harmful microorganisms.

Hi to everyone I missed...gotta go help the ol' Finn do something.

Shawnee, you mean the regular Stonyfield Farm yogurt? I see that all over the stores so I can get some of it. Otherwise I'd have to go to the health food store for Linda's suggestion.

Julie YUP...the Snonyfields ya see everywhere... In our Fred Meyer, they keep it NOT with the regular yoggie, but in the cold Health Foods section....maybe cause its Organic.

For a Starter, add 1/4 Cup yoggie to a quart of milk....after the milk has been heated and cooled as above..

Its great that Chuck has such good numbers

Most all of Bob's were great too...except the BP.
He makes fun of my LCing, but gobbles down all my recipes ..so I suppose he eats "mostly" LC....and french fries, etc now and then.
His Blood Sugar was 92....not bad for a redneck beer drinker.

I'm being "requested" to the garage again....I need to hire a helper for him

SHawnee

Ok, think I have everything but canning jars. Gave those away about 5 years ago. Anything else I can use? Does it have to be glass?

Julie, after you do all the steps, and its ready to refridgerate...Instead of a jar, I pour (PLOP ) it into a 64 oz. GLAD container with a snap-on seal lid...it does not change anything, as long as the container is spotlessly clean. Glass isn't necessary.
Some people might wanna strain it after its been in the fridge for awhile; I just place a folded paper towel on its surface to absorb the whey.

Hi Gang!

Yes, I made it through the shower, just wanted to check in!
Lots of good "legal" food. Hip of beef with horseradish my fav! Roast chicken, 3 hot veggies, rosemary roasted potatoes, gravey with mushrooms, 3 salads, a hot pasta dish, lots of fresh fruit, watermelon slices, pineapple, grapes, strawberries, cheeses, and of course the little baked goods, and the shower cake.

I was sooooo good, then a piece of the shower cake appeared in front of me, a very small one, but I "caved in" and had it with my coffee. I have not felt sick yet! So I may have escaped that yukky feeling from the sugar!

LINDA, I guess I need a slap from you!

We were 33 people, so glad it was at a banquet hall so no one had the mess or the cooking.

Jacki,
LOVE that smile! 9 get ups? That'll do it! LOL!
I have 10 more "get ups" but that is spread over the next month.

Loretta,
Glad to see you posting again. How is Leah? I do hope she is on the mend and YOU too!

Shawnee,
Ya bin cookin up a storm agin? I guess I have not acquired the yogurt tongue yet. I do find the plain a tad too tart for my taste buds. I do prefer it loaded with legal fruit and splenda.
We had 3 pink roses, babies breath and fern on each table today at the shower. I bought them at the florist this morning, if we had lived closer I could have come over to your garden. LOL!

Julie,
Sounds like you mean business there with the yogurt making!
Happy yogurt makin.

Roger,
Were you on a bike ride today?

Whew! I am so glad the Shower went well without a hitch!
Yikes, only 1 more month to go! Sheeesh, Am I ready? Gotta get those books out agin!

SuSUN!

Hey all,

Spent a gorgeous day mainly outside, gagging a few lollies here and there amongst some planting and making a new platform bird feeder. Also took a couple pics. Here's little Shey

Here's the front porch with the new swing. Dipladenias are hanging in the front.

and just for fun, a couple bloomers

Seems like all is well with y'all. Oh, the store is right across the street from us. We're on a corner (a rather busy one by country standards) and they are on the north side of us. It's been closed for about 3 years, and I don't miss the traffic from it a bit. Will be hard to get used to once again.

Off to lurk!

Good looking pooch you have there Orchid and your porch looks so inviting. Beautiful orchids too.

What is 'gagging a few lollies'?

Here's a couple pictures of my nice clean brushed out Star Tunia. I tried to doll her up for her photos but the flowers ended up the worse for wear. haha

OH, BOY....PICCIES

where to start ??????????????

Jacki...Love the pic of your kissin' cuzzin', the hamdsome Prince
Star is gorgeous as always, always a STAR.

Gagging lollies is referring to "lollygagging" ...AKA being a bum....doing as little as possible...stop to smell the roses.

Ginny! SheyPup's pic is already sent to GBrat. She has turned into a raving beauty....I want her in my lap when I sit in your porch swing.
LOL, I see you enjoy that special BLUE color too. (porch trim)
Your Bloomers are precious. Thanks.

Hey SuSUN....WOW, sounds like a major happening at the Shower...lotza attendees...cool gifts??
Did DD cry? Sweet baby things /showers always made me cry, especially if I was the Mom-to-be.
Bet the flowers were gorgeous too...I'd have happily given ya mine, tho the rain has not been kind to them today.

To all, have a good night.

Jacki, Star is gorgeous!

Shawnee, you can have Shey in your lap, but remember, she is 64 lbs. You won't be able to get up until SHE'S ready LOL!

Susan, glad the shower went so well! Good idea having it in a hall and no worries about cleanup!

Well, all, got the munchies....gonna look for something legal
