Monday, May 3--VM Gang

Hey all!

Rainy and chilly here today, just 40 this morning Where did our heat go??? I think what did it was I brought my coveralls and mediumweight jacket home from work for a washing.

Welcome Elaine!!! I saw your post last week, but haven't been on the board much since I have had houseguests these last few weeks. Next week I'll be back to normal (or as normal as I get). Good job getting back to 113! I would do some premaintenance stuff like you were thinking about, and see what your CCL is this time. So many things factor in to maintaining your weight besides a carb number. The type of carbs, how much water you drink, exercise, what else you're eating, how late you eat--all have bearing on what your body does to burn it off. BTW, I'm 39, 5'7", 125, fine boned. I stay within a week of my goal weight.

Jacki, WOW you had some good finds! That's a successful yard sale adventure to be sure! My DH likes to go too.

Shawnee, Linda's shot at Suzy just ran her off and she came here but I fired more than a warning shot LOL! Will go dig out the jerky recipe....

Linda, I thought you were a better shot than that Good find on the pillow cases!

Loretta, so where you been?

Julie, 'puter problems suck. Hope you got yours fixed! I bet you're looking forward to that trip!

Barb, good thing you've been with us for a while and you know we're not as crazy as we sound...or are we?

OK, now off to find the jerky...

1/2 c Worchestershire Sauce
1/2 c Soy Sauce
1/2 tsp sage
2 tsp accent
2 tsp seasoning salt
1 tsp garlic powder
2 tsp onion powder
1 tsp black pepper

Marinate meat 10-12 hours, turning periodically. Cook 8-10 hours depending on thickness of meat.

This works best with well trimmed roast strips, usually we'll use frozen chuck or shoulder. Let it defrost 1/2 way and cut with an electric knife. This also works excellent with venison!

Ginny, this jerky recipe sounds so good. Can you do it in the oven? I don't have a dehydrator.
House guests? Poor thing! Hope they don't overextend their stay. What do they say? 3 days is 3 days too long.

I'm off to Curves and then to visit my friend who happen to fall off her 18 inch porch and broke her foot!!! They are suppose to go camping with us. She goes to the Ortho tomorrow morning and maybe they put her in a cast. She has C.P. so her left side is affected so that means no crutches. They put a soft cast on til tomorrow. Poor thing!

Barb, how is getting down to 125 doing? You haven't said anything lately. Are you having trouble? Maybe I need to get on your butt again. LOL

Welcome to Elaine. Come often and keep us posted. We are a little crazy like Ginny said but don't let that scare you.

Now, where are the rest of you???

Hope all have a great day.

Ha, we're running TWO Threads today, so here's my post from the other:

Hi Y'all

Too late, Barb...we are already running TWO Threads for today..Loved your One Liners re our Happenings.

Suzy: well, she's the wicked representative of anything related to HOUSEWORK ! (think Suzy Homemaker from the Sixties...or the Beaver Cleaver Mom image of same era, doing her chores oh, so gracefully in pearls and heels...)

Gawd, Zip...if you're into drool , I'll send ya my pillowcases...which must be changed daily, as Bob is a drooler too...
As a Guest Volunteer Gardener, take your "druthers" of any of the million tasks. Said chores usually start out pleasurably enough, but as the sweat increases, they become work.
Sure miss my Pup sidekick; her B-day was MayDay.

....will post this on the other thread too...gonna confuse our new Elaine for sure.
.................................................

Hey Goddess Ginny...Thanks for that Recipe. Will probablt try it out in Bob's new smoker...he has two old ones, but he likes things in multiples I guess.

Elaine, you are more than here...especially since you have DOGS...you'll find that most of us are kritter krazy.

Julie...your poor friend sure hope she gets patched up ok, and without a big hassle.

Gotta get busy, or at least pretend I am...

later

Elaine so nice to have you join our little group of maintainers. Congratulations for making it to your goal weight.
We sure could use another poster here with this tiny group.
Guess we are a little confusing. Just bear with us though and we'll get it right sooner or later. Glad Shawnee gave you a run down on some of our daffynitions. Names might get confusing too.

Here is Beth, my 6 yr old DGD minus her first tooth at the art show yesterday, with her self portrait. I had a great time but it was a long day.
DH stayed at home. Beth is sure up on current events because she told her DAD yesterday "YOUR FIRED". We all go a laugh out of that one.

I confess, I drool too. Sometimes I'm not even in bed and the drooling happens. What is up with that? At least we are not alone with this problem.

Ginny thanks for that recipe for the jerky. Sure sounds like something my Dh would enjoy, me too for that matter.

Barb on the quick rundown. I love your wit.

Rain here too Zip and cool weather, 40s with wind. They PROMISE US some 80s by the week end.

Julie are you all set for the trip. The menu looks good and well planned. I like the pre thought to knowing what you are going to be eating. Sure helps to stick with the plan. I know what you mean about the PC. I say that too, I'm not going to mess but I usually end up messing somehow.

Linda you are going to drive yourself batty with that glucose monitor and your fingers are going to be sore for sure. You have been getting some interesting results. The last sheets I bought were 270 count and I sure do like them.

Thanks for the info Zip on the puritan catalog. I'll have my eye onit. But I think I'll wait some more for that big sale you were talking about. Thanks for the pic of the old Loew's Theater.
Glad that it has a support group. Wonderful.

Shawnee maybe Jackie will let Bob use that shredder.
We could just fire SUZY and get rid of her that way.
My hosta leaves still look nice and green (the plant that does not have any bottom roots) Maybe it will comeback.

Congrats Jackie on your bargains at the yard sales. YOu have a very good eye.

l8ter folks.

Loretta

So, already it's a small world!

Loretta, I am originally from Kentucky and went to undergrad at Western Ky. University, thirty-plus years ago! Still have relatives in Louisville and Bardstown. My immediate family (mother, father, brother, two sisters and a niece) all live in Florida (where I grew up) and none of them can fathom why I would stay here where it's cold. I figure I'll "keep" better. Your 6-year-old is adorable!

Elaine

I am originally from the Chicago area and love the more moderate climate here in Ky.

My x and I bought a resort here on Kentucky Lake in 1986 and I have been here ever since. The x has moved on (thankfully, and by the way I love the comment on your signature line) and I have remarried and live on the lake now.

What are you doing out in the cold state of North Dakota?
besides "keeping better"

Loretta

Loretta: I work at the University of NORTH Dakota (we're the ones who don't have Mt. Rushmore) year round. I like everything about ND, except the climate, but even winter has its upside as the six months of winter correspond with the six months of hockey and I am a huge hockey fan.

As a long time resident of Miami, FL, I can safely say that I do not miss the traffic, the crime or the frantic pace of life in the big city. Here, you can go from any spot in the city to any other in 10 minutes by car. Crime rears its ugly head everywhere--even here--from time to time but the rate of crime is extremely low. The fact that violent crime is so rare here means that we do not become desensitized to it.

I'm sure all of you have reasons to like and dislike the places you live, too.

I am having a hard time staying focused on my second week of clean induction today. I think printing out the 3-minute chocolate cake recipe did me in! Now, I hear, quite distinctly the voice of Mr. Peanut calling to me from the vending machine across the hall. I've been trying to unleash his hold on me by coming to work with no change and nothing smaller than a five in my wallet. I've also been bypassing the coffee bar in the student union. I can get decaf there and SF DaVinci syrups but all they have is half and half, 2% or soy milk and when I drink coffee, I really like to lighten it up. And I already took in my 2-3 tbs of heavy cream this a.m. in my coffee at home.

I really want to get cleanly through this week. I think my problems with maintenance have had less to do with carb-creep than with calorie-creep caused by my inability to understand why, if 4-6 oz of meat is really a "serving size," how come I can find a steak smaller than 8 oz.? It wasn't McDonald's that invented "super sizing;" the grocery stores have been at it a lot longer.

Two daily threads?
LOL better than none.

Ginny, must have been off on my aim otherwise I would have got the darn critter, Suzy.
Thanks for the jerky recipe. Guess I need to break out the dehydrator.

Loretta, What a cute picture of that little doll, Beth. Thanks for sharing.
I think everyone drools and maybe even snores too so don't worry about it.

Not to worry, I will only test new things to see how they affect my BG.

Cold and damp here today but tomorrow will be a little better. Gosh spring has to be here soon.

Julie, what a rotten thing to have happen just before your camping trip. Hopefully the poor girl will still be able to go. It sounds like a fun time. Don't forget, we want PICTURES.

Roger, glad you got the chin strap working better. I hear ya on the dry mouth. It's a huge PITA and interrupts sleep.

Elaine, good to have you join our crazy bunch of oldies. LOL the exception being our Ginny. She is the baby of our group.

Congrats on the weight loss and maintaining all this time. Maintaining takes some work but you will find your way soon..LOL I love your sig. line too.

Barb, the pasta is called Dreamfields and is supposed to have only 5 digestible carbs. Check out their website. I thought I would test to be sure it didn't spike the glucose but unfortunately it did on the first test. That wonderful kastadiva told me to be sure and wash my hands before testing since "unwashed" hands can skew the results. The second test was much better but still not something I would eat frequently.

Hi Shawnee, bet you are missing pup's company in the yard. How is the Chuckster doing?

I'm seriously thinking of getting one of those robot vacuums, Roomba, since everyone is raving about them. Our Target has them on sale for $179.00 One of the gals put up a thread several months ago and said she LOVED it and has had it for over a year. Can you imagine just turning that thing lose and not have to bother hauling out the old vacuum?

Off to catch up.
Later.

Two more Dirty Man Plant pics

Hi y'all. Another day at the 'salt mines' done and over.

Nice to meet you Vane. I am in SW Washington State and also in the 'State of Struggle'. Hard time taking off some lbs put on during a difficult time. Perserverance will pay tho. They let me hang around anyway.

Lorretta, what a doll your DGD is.

I tried the Dreamfields pasta last night and it tasted great. Didn't trigger a carb binge or anything. Left overs tonight with some brocolli.

Who's Suzy??? She'd better run!!

Ok....here's a couple more pictures of the Dirty Man Plant.
(Amorphophallus Vulgaris)

A lot bigger bud than last week.

Hi again

Loretta, such a Cutie-pie GBrat!...and proud of her Art too!

Yeah, Montana...I sure miss Pup in the wheelbarrow. Glad when GrandPup Burk comes to visit and plays in the yard. The Chuckster is a perky and bratty as ever.

Jacki...this is one place where you'll never hear "You're Fired!'' for struggling Great pics of the dirty ol' man.

Elaine...dang, sorry bout that cake recipe Ok, tell all the Nosey Ones here what ya do at the U.

Had a nice "escape" surprise this afternoon: SIL has a getaway place on the Kalama River...said to meet them up there for a visit. Talk about serene contentment on a river!

On the FAR Right (Just to the Left of the house)...see that wispy vertical smokey line?) That's a waterfall.

Jackie, I'm at a loss as to that Dreamfields pasta. One time my BS spiked and yesterday, not quite as much.

What a nice looking Dirty Man Plant Thanks for sharing.

Shawnee, WOW, WOW, WOW what a spectacular place that is. Glad you got to visit.

Glad the Chuckster is perky and keeps you company.

Elaine, North Dakota is beautiful but I wouldn't want to live there in the winter. We live in upstate NY, and it gets nasty but not as bad as there. We have 6 months of winter and 6 months of construction.
Glad to have you join us.
