Vintage Maintainers' Sunday

Hi everybody,

Ballet looks pleasantly possible this afternoon because we can get to Lincoln Center almost completely underground if we need to. Rain might even hold off til tonight. Probably Japanese sushi dinner. It's always good for the waistline.

The book seems a success. I might have to iron a couple of the thicker pages at the beginning and end. What I did was alternately dry in front of a fan with the book opened so the pages fluff about...I adjusted to a different section every time I walked by the kitchen. Overnight I pressed the book with dumbells between two cutting boards and then started all over the next day.
Susan,
Book was Ginny's favorite: RUSH LIMBAUGH IS A BIG FAT IDIOT, by Al Franken...screamingly funny.
I took the fly-cover off and dried it separately to allow the hardcover to dry out....the black discolored to an ugly gray but it will be invisible when I recover it.
I didn't think my results would be so good- I saved the book.

Loretta and Linda,
Thanks for the tips on the pulled pork...I'll do it exactly that way.

Oh I made a chin sling to keep my mouth closed during sleep. I sewed a 3 inch wide denim sling to both sides of a baseball cap....It WORKED but the brim kept getting in my way if I turned my head left or right....and the plastic adjustment piece accross the back began to feel like an I-beam by 3 AM....a work in process! If I add a wimple I look just like a mother superior (with a Yankee hat!)

Nice weekend to you all.

Oh Loretta,
I got my new PP catalogue yesterday. I had to laugh: it's the same sale but they changed the name to BUY 2 AT HALF PRICE...GET ONE FREE!!!
Of Course that's exacly identical to BUY ONE GET TWO FREE...but I had to think for a minute!
Prices good through 6/15.

Hey everyone!

Cool and rainy today for us, so not much activity going on. Will most likely just hang around here and piddle about. Caught a good show on Animal Planet last night called Thoroughbred--a documentary type movie about a racing farm, watch it if you get a chance!

Zip, it was your subconscious that left the book in the rain. Listen to it, it's telling you something!

Shawnee, that Burke is such a gorgeous little guy! Sure looks like my Tyke with a paint job Your drive through the country sounds like such a pleasure (one time I rode a mule/quarter mare and she was great! Had the long ears and all, really a smart critter!) Around here it is getting built up, so I reckon we'll either have to buy land farther out in the sticks or start doing drives like yours.

Jacki, whyever are you making that much ranch dressing? Hope it goes smoothly for you!

Susan, glad you are getting some relax time in before your big event--saw your group got cancelled! Is your DD slowing down any now?

Loretta, got some lobelia yesterday at the Co-op and we'll be putting it in a window box on the porch rail (or hanging off the porch rail when DH gets a framework made for it). We have a couple Dipladenia hanging baskets in the porch too, sure looks good! You should be able to find them pretty easily. Definitely know the drill on the horse manure/seed content, but it sure makes the plants grow good!

Linda, won't be long and y'all will be mowing too. Hope that hosta comes up in that pot! My one hosta is about 2' across now or more, one of the large leafed blue/green ones. We moved it this year and it seems to be happier already!

Julie, getting ready for the camping season, huh? Time to break out the dehydrator and make some jerky! I have an excellent recipe for the sauce to soak meat in (if anyone is interested, just email me--no idea on carb content, but it's the best jerky I've ever had!)

Barb, welcome to the annual mower races LOL! Of course, Shawnee and Jacki have a longer season and have been training more, but we'll get in form quick!

Well, gang, just a bit scatterbrained today (need some down time really bad!) and hope I'm not forgetting too much on here. Hey to all I've missed, and will post as I can this next week...

Hi Y'all

Currently enjoying one of our last days of sunny weather; rains are on the rebound....and I'm almost looking forward to that. (NO mowing)

Great pic, Zip. There's a future for you in Damage Control.
We have an underground system here too...unfortunately, it consists of mole runs.

Whoa, Jacki....y'all made quite a haul Can't wait to tell Bob about all the goodies Roy grabbed, especially that Chipper.

Ginny, I'd like that Jerky recipe, please. Enjoy your day of piddlin'. Would ya send me the addy to your PI Albums, I lost My Faves when old puter crashed. Would like for GBrat to see a pic of Tyke...she has an eye for breeds.

To all, have a Super Sunday.....I'm off to gag lollies and be a bum...if Suzy rears her ugly head, she'll be shot on sight.

Shawnee

Hi everybody,

What a lovely building Roger. Is it still in existence? We have an old theater, ENJOY, that they are talking about restoring but nothing has been done about it lately. When I was a kid, we would spend all day Sat. there watching movie after movie for only 5 cents. Ah, the good ol days.

If your local grocery store carries Dinosaur's BBQ sauce, give it a try. It's wonderful!

Cool that the book is drying nicely.

do a search for cpapman.com and check out the chin straps. I'm going to see if I can find the little stick on ones at the pharmacy.

Jackie, you and DH made out like bandits at the yard sales. Wow!

Ginny, nice to see you here today. Do get some much needed down time. I'm with Shawnee and will gag some lollies too.

DH has mowed once already so spring is finally here. LOL seems we have lots of lovely "yellow" flowers all over the lawn. Someone didn't put down weed and feed.

Yeah, post the Jerky recipe here for all of us if you will.

Shawnee, Driving through the country is so relaxing. Unfortunately we don't do very often.

What nuker cake did you make? Recipe please.

Pass the pistol in case Suzy rears her ugly head here today.

Yesterday between the church service and post 1st communion party, we stopped by Family Dollar to kill some time and I found some lovely pillow cases with embroidered edges...250 thread count...2 per package for only $5.00. I'm off and running to grab several packages.

Strangest thing happened yesterday. I ate some "real" pasta at the party and checked my blood glucose 1 hr after. It was 100 for the same sized portion that I had of the so called low carb stuff which raised it to 167. ARGGGGG guess I'll be pricking my finger several times again today.

Later gang.

Having a little more trouble with the computer but it's all my fault I guess. Won't go into detail but couldn't even get online since yesterday. My connection settings went haywire and I didn't know it. Listen up....I'll only click on my email and search. I'll leave the rest of the crap to all you puter nuts. Spybot won't let me destroy New.Net and guess I don't need it and tried to go into Safe mode. Didn't work for me and boom. No internet. Long story! Chuck was furious with me as I get all upset and he has to listen to me. LOL I'm not touching anything I don't know how to do anymore!!!!!!!!!!!!!til the next time...ha

Been busy getting the trailer ready and doing a little cooking ahead. I like to do as much ahead as I can so I can go and RELAX!!!!! After last night, I need to let the blood pressure rest. Good thing it's so low normally or I might have had a heart attack.

Ginny, I don't have a dehydrator but can you do it in the oven. Seems all the prepared jerky has lots of sugar in it. Please post the recipe.

Jacki, quite a haul girl!! Good for you. I love garage sales.

Since I've been gone lately too, where IS SuSun?????

Linda, those yellow flowers don't go over very good with our neighbors. LOL You away from yours a bit?

Zip, you sure are imaginative!!! WTG on the book. Who'd a thought up a contraption like that but you. Maybe a few adjustments and it'll be fine.

Shawnee, sun finally came out here. No rain so far but they predict it off and on all week. Unless they changed the forcast, which wouldn't surprise me. Happens serveral times a day around here. LOL

Mariner's won today!! Surprise, surprise!! LOL not their best start this year.

Hi again...

Saw some of Jacki's new treasures...and gotta mention that her Hostas are fabulous! (fat and lucious)

Poor Julie...nothing like a contrary puter to skyrocket the BP. Hope that trip allows ya lots of R & R. Bob's arthritic knee is a better weather indicator than those Doppler things that LIE !

Montana, I take it the Church is still standing
Sounds like a good deal on those pillow cases.

( I was shanghied by that witch Suzy...she was *****in' about dirty sheets, etc....I did just enough to stop the nagging...[damned guilt trip!]...then ran away to Wally's.) Found some plants for DGBrat so I went to drop them off. She was leaving to go shopping, so we went together.

Here's the Nuker Cake...I left out the Choc to use it for shortcake, and doubled the ingredients..

Posted by CarolynF

Three Minute Chocolate Cake
This isn't an original from me..but it is indeed wonderful and
a quick dessert for 2.

Three Minute Chocolate Cake

1/4 cup almond flour (1 ounce)
1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
3 tablespoons plus 1 teaspoon granulated Splenda
2 tablespoons butter, melted
1 tablespoon water
1 egg
3 drops almond extract (optional) (could also use 3 drops of peppermint extract)

Mix the almond flour, cocoa, baking powder and Splenda in a 2-cup glass measuring cup. Stir in the butter, water, egg and extract. Mix well with a spoon or fork. Scrape batter down evenly with a rubber spatula. Pour into a microwaveable glass bowl and cover with plastic wrap, cutting a small slit in center to vent. Microwave on HIGH 1 minute 20 seconds. Cool slightly and serve warm topped with heavy whipping cream.

Makes 2 servings (which is good, because if there was more, you'd eat it all!!)

Here's the origional idea in the Recipe Room.

Loretta, sure hope your visit with DGBrats was FUN

What's with the Chin Strap stuff? To prevent drooling, or what? Lordy, I've started drooling in my sleep

later

Shawnee, ME TOO ON THE DROOLING!! What is this, old age? I sometimes drool before I even fall asleep. Jeez, never did that until about 6 months ago or so. I thought maybe it was all the water we drink.

BTW, I love that choc cake recipe and make it often. Sometimes I eat the whole thing.....

LOL Barb, maybe you should read the posts more thoroughly so you don't think we are all NUTS.
Hope you had a wonderful time with your friends. Where did you go and what did you do?

Julie, bummer on the computer problems. What the Hell did you do to the poor thing? It's awful not to be able to log on isn't it?

What a bunch of doddering old codgers we are eh? Drooling all over the place. Actually Roger and I sleep with our mouths open and wake up with a very dry mouth. A chin strap may help. Duct tape HURTS!

So are you going to tell us what you cooked for your camping trip? Inquiring minds want to know. Oh and how big is your trailer?

As for the dandelions, my brother is next door about two hundred or so feet but the other neighbors are quite far away. We have woods next to us on one side.

Shawnee, I thought you were going to shoot Suzy if she showed up. I did. LOL

So what did you and DGB get while indulging in some retail therapy?

Got 5 packs of those lovely pillow cases and one set of matching sheets..King size sheets for only $25.00.

Thanks for the recipe. I just may make it later tonight. I'm getting hungry again but can't have anything for another 1/2 hr.

Been pricking my finger again after eating that lc pasta again.
Boy am I confused now.
BG before after not eating for 5 hrs was 65
One hr. after it was 97
two hrs later... 102
4 hrs. ?? I'll let everyone know tomorrow. Perhaps I wasn't as careful with the strips the first time and screwed up the result. We shall see. What to do, what to do

Oh yeah, the church is still standing last I knew.

gotta go and catch up around here.

If you MUST know.... with some moderations I'll impose for me, here is the menu. There are 4 couples going and we always plan it together and then divide the food up between us.

Tuesday dinner...Cornish game hens. All meat is done on the BBQ
Stuffing (salad for me)
Asparagus
Wed. morning...Huckleberry pancakes and bacon
I'll eat yogurt and sprouted toast w P.B. probably
Wed. dinner....(one couples anniversary) so steak, baked potato
salad
Thursday morning...Scotch eggs, fruit cup and toast
" dinner....ribs, cole slaw and baked beans.
I can eat the cole slaw and make myself another salad
Friday brunch...taco's before we break camp

We always have dessert every night. I made Loretta's almond cheesecake for me. Made lots of goodies I can eat. Yummy bluecheese balls coated with walnuts. Cheese crispies. My minds blank but I'll not starve, believe me. We snack all during the day!! Now, do you know how I got fat in the first place????

On the computer, I tried to go into safe mode to delete that New.Net but it wouldn't let me. Then all of sudden I couldn't get connected to the internet. Hmmmm my LAN settings was off. I know nothing about all this stuff so really should not be doing it if I don't know. Chuck was sure mad at me for doing this again. Didn't get a lot of sleep last night. Patti walked me through it today. Thank God for DDIL's.

So Barb, tell me you NEVER drool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good morning! I don't see a post for Monday, May 3rd so I just added on here.

Thank you shawnseesioux for the warm welcome last week. I am not near a computer on weekends but I will try to post faithfully during the work week.

As I explained before, I have just finished 2 years on Atkins. I have been struggling with maintenance for 11 months. Currently, I am in my second week of a religious re-induction, trying to get my cravings for nuts, cream and SF treats under control as well as my portion control problems. My official weigh-in day is now Saturday. My weight was at 113, three pounds from goal and at the outer edge of my "zone of comfort."

I am happily divorced and am human companion to two rambunctious dogs, a Golden and Border Collie cross. No children. I live in North Dakota where we enjoy six months of winter followed by six months of pre-winter.

I hope to get to know all of you better in time.
Thank you for opening the door of friendship and support to me.
