MAYDAY, MAYDAY to all VM's
Happy Mayday All,
Quiet time here. Joffrey Ballet at Lincoln Center tomorrow but just a rest today. With no rain, we'll do dinner before the ballet...but forecast is iffy! I made a PERNIL yesterday (pork shoulder to anyone not living in a Hispanic settlement...like NJ!) It was DELICIOUS and cheap $.69/pound. Four hours at 325°F. I sliced off the fell leavinga layer of fat and then tied the fatty fell to the lean exposed area and it was a great baster the whole 4 hours. I have enough meat for a lunch for 2 and whould like to tear PULLED MEAT....any suggestions? Do you have to cook it to death before you can "pull" it? My mom used to make something called pork barbecue (served on a bun) which it seems was the same thing....but I can't ask her because I forget Heaven's area code (I have Hell's memorized though.) Did anyone listen to Ted Koppell's reading of the wwar dead? Lovely weather continues today (middle 70's). Last week I did some sun at the gym and left a library book behind...they found it AFTER a rainstorm....OY, I'm trying to dry it PAGE BY PAGE...Geez, what dogwork. Every couple hours I have to press it with weights because it SWELLS as it drys and if I return a 200 page book that is 6 inches think, somebody might get suspicious. The soaked book weighed several pounds after the deluge!!! Probably just paying the $29.95 might have been the wiser course. Keep the baby-faith!

Garage Sales Garage Sales!!!
Here I come! Rose Valley (a country area nearby) there is an area wide sale---30+ sales. Who knows what treasures await me. Wish me happy hunting. I would suppose to tear the meat you'll have to cook it pretty tender. Hope your book drying goes well but I tend to think the $29.95 would be the best option. Didn't listen to the Ted Koppell reading. I did hear he was going to leave out all the accidental deaths...which I think is wrong. Wouldn't be dead if they weren't over there serving. Drinking down my cup of coffee before heading out the door. Junk?? Where's the good Junk???? ![]() |

HI to all
ZIp I have been making a pulled pork as you are going to do (did do) I slow cooker the pork for until it falls off the bone. I rinse the meat off with cold water. Then I pull the pork apart and put it back in the slow cooker with some lc bbq sauce until it heats through. Everyone seems to enjoy it. I wonder if the librarian will know that book was water logged? Good try. Jackie best of luck on the yard sales. Seems like most around here are just as poor as we are and I sure don't ever find any bargains. Gave up stopping. I don't have the patience to sift through the stuff. Have fun, hope you find a treasure. Linda I pulled up what was left of that hosta, a few leaves and put some rooting hormone on them and put them back in the ground but in a pot this time. Seems like the plants I have put in pots first before putting them in the ground are surviving so far. Rain, rain here again today and then it should be on the way out of here. SuSUN glad you enjoyed that party. Isn't that interesting how those high carb foods mess us up now that we have been eating low carb. I find that too. I'm glad to have that mechanism built in now. I think twice knowing that I will most likely get an upset stomach. That sure was a lot of people retiring, 300. Must have been a big company for that many to retire at one time. Missing Ginny and Shawnee, Julie, and Pam and Cali and mommy dragon. Know you guys are just busy. I will be gone tomorrow to visit DGKids in Indiana. 6 yr old's class is having an art show. Looking forward to the visit. DH is going to sit this one out. L8ter Loretta |

Hi everyone,
Roger, I listened to Ted last night and was extremely surprised to hear him say "Many people think I'm opposed to the war. I'm NOT". Just about fell out of my chair at that . Oh Pulled pork is wonderful and is what was served at my Son's house today. Do try it Loretta's way which is the way DS fixed it and try Bruce's BBQ sauce. YUMMM! Hopefully the weather will be nice tomorrow for your area so you can get out to the ballet and dinner. Try using your iron to press the pages flat. Let us know how that works. Jackie, did you find some wonderful treasures at the area event? Loretta, I just love pork cooked that way but DH hates any "mushy" texture meat. Odd duck, eh? Keep us posted on how that hosta does. The one I have in my deck pot hasn't even started to push through the dirt, darn it! Hopefully it survived Enjoy the visit tomorrow. Yeah where is everyone else? Hopefully enjoying a wonderful weekend. I just may sleep most of the day away tomorrow, I'm whipped. Later. edited to add: this is why my mom and I were stuck in a massive traffic jam yesterday on our way from the credit union to Lowe's. http://www.pressconnects.com/today/t...04s85962.shtml Incredibly sad for the families. Darn lead footed kids just don't have a clue. ![]() Last edited by LoveMontana : 05-01-2004 at 08:56 PM. |

Hello Fellow VM's!
Well we are off to another wonderful start to the weekend! Love this Sunny weather. The garden needs some TLC stapped for time agin! Roger, Yep, I agree great weather up here too! I was going to suggest ironing the pages too, if they are still damp that is. How is the spine? Is that swollen too? They may not notice if ya drop it off on time. At least it was returned on time! What is the title of the said book? Just curious!BTW, were you out at dawn Morris Dancing for May Day? I thought you might have your whites on ready to go May pole weaving! LOL! Old England thing! Jacki, Good hunting on the garage sale front. I would love to participate in them. DH would n't, he thinks we have enough junk to start our very own junk shop. We have a large basement, gathering 23years of junk, at this location.I dont know where you find the time. I guess I am notthat well organized to get all my chores out of the way first. Good for YOU, report any bargains! Loretta, Wow, enjoy Indiana and the DGkids tomorrow. The art show should be priceless! They paint such cute things!Oh yeah, YUK to sugar, that awful feeling is still with me, even though my tummy is settled now. It was not a company it was the City, including Firemen, Transport, Paramedics, Nurses, Administration, Planning, boy you name it they were there. It was a bit too long though. Linda, How very sad for those families. Yep best to drive like a lil old lady and get there in one piece. Enjoy your day of sleep tomorrow, "To sleep per chance to dream!" Wavin to the rest of Our Gang! SuSUN! Last edited by SuSUN : 05-01-2004 at 09:24 PM. |

Hi Y'all
Sorry for not posting yesterday... pulled a marathon mow-a-thon, trying to get too much done at once. Rewarded with dinner out, Buffet-style. Hit the sheets as soon as I hit back home. Amazing how 12 hours sleep can rejuve an Ol'broad tho. Today was Hicks escaping to the Sticks; our hearts needed a dose of Country for unwinding ....we drove North to tiny laidback towns. Great brekkie in one....and another held a May Day parade. Our travels thru the countryside netted sights to warm the heart's c*c*kles. GINNY! How I wish you had been with me today. Saw so many lil farmette/ranchettes with horses galore...and a few MULES too (ya know I'm partial to them)...........and at the parade, an Indian guy on a sorrel mare put her thru some fancy dancing...impressive. We stopped at a Farmer's Co op and of course I got a few plants...one being a Pineapple Sage...really smells like Pineapple. Zip, how's the Pork (and the book) progressing? Good luck with the Ballet/Dinner plans. Jacki, tell all....Rose Valley is a beautiful drive, even without treasure hunting. Loretta, have a safe trip and enjoy every second of DGBrats and Art show....camera ready? Montana...what a tragic story. This will be a somber Memorial Day for those families. Catch some Zzzzzzzzzzz's Gal. SuSun, LOL...maybe time for YOU to have a Garage Sale? Glad to hear you are getting Sun. My peonies have FAT buds, but haven't burst yet. To all the MIAs, hope your weekend is going well. Made one of those Nuker cakes and had it with strawberries and cream...YUM. ShawneeI took this at Dusk tonight...Red is a Hawthorne, just blooming out. No wonder my roses get too much shade, but I do love those darn trees ......... ![]() Last edited by shawneesioux : 05-01-2004 at 10:33 PM. |
