Vintage maintainers...Monday, April 26

Hi everyone,

Never made it here last night. Moms were here for dinner and then I got lazy. LOL getting old is no fun.
The Dreamfields pasta was pretty darn good. It tasted like the real thing, so we shall see what the scale says this week. Hopefully it will be OK for an occasional "treat" but nothing we would eat on a regular basis until the results are in.

Ginny, glad you survived the company week and now will have your mom for a visit. That should be fun.
Enjoy, and we'll keep the light on for you.

Jackie, you can make it for the next 18 days. Hang in there. How long will you have off?
Our schools close in mid June and open the Wed. after Labor Day.
Both the University and community college open in late Aug. and finish mid May.

Loretta, Congratulations on making it back to goal. Way to go girl
How did the new toy perform? Hopefully it will make life a bit easier for you. Some of the newer sewing machines are just amazing.

Julie, you must be totally worn out from you week from hell. Get some rest and take care of yourself. None of us are 25 anymore.

Barb, so you are counting the days till summer vacation too. How long do you have off?
LOL I thought I would finish all my unfinished projects when I retired too but I still have an afghan half finished.

Shawnee, it's good to have you back with us. Bet you need a week of rest to recover from your trip. I know I always need a vacation to recover from my vacation.

Susan, are you working this week? Interesting article you sent re: sugar and cancer. Did you read the one I sent you? I had posted it here several months ago but I think you missed it.

Roger, so did you get to see the mother ship? What interesting things did you do this weekend?
How's that nasty cough BTW?

I'm off to the allergists but shall return.

I bought some of the dreamfields pasta to try also. I think I'll save it for friday night dinner. Good to have a positive opinion of it. Thanks.

Hi to Jackie and Linda and the best to the rest.

Linda just how many carbs were in that pasta? HOW much of it did you eat. I bet you had a spoonful if that was it. You sure seem to be overly worried about it. INMHO
Did you go out and buy one of those monitors??????? Did you feel strange after you ate it? How about Gerard? I have enjoyed reading all of your comments about it. I should not even comment because I don't want to even try it because of some of the same reasons you cited.
Enjoy your day off today.

Jackie that is just great to have Jessica's weather drawing in the paper. Thanks for sharing that with us. Did you show her how you posted it here for us?

Barb I just cannot keep myself from starting new projects. Some day my kids are going to be mad at me when they have to clean up all of this sh@@ I have accumulated. I can hear them now.

Loretta, the information on the box is 5 "digestible" carbs per serving. I had about a cup of the stuff. I felt just fine after as did Gerard.
No I didn't get a Blood Glucose monitor yet. Maybe today if I have time.
I'll let everyone know what the results are.

OMG just look at Chuckster in that bird bath. Wow what a little doll. He looks like a little king on a throne.

Shawnee your yard is so very lovely and those hostas put mine to shame. Gosh mine are just beginning to poke their little heads up through the ground. I bow to your creative horticultural genius.

The pasta we tried was this.

Unfortunately the blood glucose monitor we want was not in stock, so we will have to wait for the thing to come in before we can test how we react to it. Boy it's good.

Hi Gang!

Tad late tonight! I did post a long one yesterday. It vanished into cyberspace.

I have a bit of insomnia tonight, hope to get into bed and sleep late if Oliver will let me.

Thank you Linda for the site. I did not see that when you posted it before.

Not enough registered for the Group tomorrow, so I have cancelled it. Frees up more time before Ella is due.

Still have the FAQs to write up.

Great new Loretta!

Hope to be here in the daytime tomorrow!

SuSUN!

Hey Montana, thanks for the Pasta info....interesting! I'd best find some for Bob, he does like his spaghetti and Mac & Cheese.

There's this one way he likes the spaghetti type...don't know what it's called, a friend showed me: cook the pasta, drain it, then sautee it in Olive oil and Garlic...sprinkle on Parmesan. Sound familiar?

The flowers and plants here are weeks early; its the driest and warmest Spring in 66 years....a dubious distinction, considering how its already contributing to the Wildfire situation.

Today I found an open Rose and an Iris bloom...they seem to think its the end of MAY, not April. (also found enough Aphids to suck the Iraqi oil wells dry....I went on a killing spree....)

Keep the Faith, your Hostas will be glorious when their time is right.

We were BBQing tonight when I saw ol' Chuckster climbing into the birdbath...it was worth risking the steaks to run in for the camera.

HI SuSun...YES, you need more time off to be with the Mom to be.

Loretta....CONGRATS on regaining your skinniness

Shawnee

Good morning! Am I in the right place?

I've been following Atkins for two years tomorrow. I reached my goal of 110 in June 2003 and since then have been really struggling--most recently failing-- to stay within 3 pounds of that. I am also perimenopausal and in the last few months TOM and weight have been fluctuating like crazy. Last week the weight was 121; this week it's 116; TOM cycle was 50 days when it's usually about 25! After the horror of seeing 121 on the scale, I am re-inducting to try to get my cravings for too much of permissible foods (nuts, butter, sugar-free chocolate, lo-carb tortillas, whatever) under control because I'm aware that I'm consuming too many calories and too much fat even while carbs stay in the net 25 gram/day range. On the plus side, however, I have not had any carb-loaded lapses in two years. Today is day 7 of re-induction for me and I have been observing the rules religiously. I want to do another clean induction week and then slowly ease back into maintenance. In the 11 months of maintenance, I've made plenty of mistakes. I did a shoddy pre-maintenance and never discovered what my outer carb limit for maintaining might be because I kept the carbs low but piled on the calories instead. I haven't consumed more than 25 or 30 g net carbs/day and I haven't progressed on the food ladder beyond berries and melon. Guess I am afraid of the grains, legumes and higher glycemic fruits and veggies.

Has anyone had a similar experience? Would you recommend, after this re-induction, doing all the baby steps (OWL, pre-maintenance) until goal and then trying to live a reasonable maintenance thereafter? Since I have only six pounds to go, following all the steps could be compressed into a month or so. Or I hope so anyway.

Does my story qualify me for Vintage Maintainers? If so, I'd very much like to visit you each day.

Hi Elaine and

....almost missed your Post; we Ol' Timers run a Daily Thread, and this one is kinda old.

Many of us struggle from time to time, cause our hormones change, or we get a tad lax....or do less exercising..

How commendable that you have been TWO YEARS without Bad Carbs

I don't think many Maintainers are perfect, and weight fluctuations are a fact of life.

Most of us try different things/experiments to keep at our goal weight.....some cut back on Fats, or Calories, or Carbs...or serving size...its an individual thing, whatever works for YOU.

I think Goal Weight can sometimes be a bit too Obsessive/compulsive....a realistic one that's easy to maintain and healthy for the individual makes more sense to me.
I can be flabby at 128, or toned at 135...exercize plays a huge roll....as does metabolism, age, and medical conditions.

Please feel free to join us on our Vintage thread, today's is April 30. We have folks there who have been at this for years.

Best wishes

Shawnee
