Any ideas?
Hi guys!
I've peeked in here and posted a time or two, but I tend to forget about the Maintain Lane. Now, however, I have a crisis and it occurred to me that this might be the place to come for help and advice. Okay, I've been maintaining for months with no problem - bouncing around 134-137. I'm sensitive to sodium so I don't panic with the fluctuations. But now...I'm nudging 139! I don't like "products" much, so I haven't added anything like bars, shakes, or carboptions type things. I'm at 30 - 40 carbs a day, and I don't do net carbs. What do you think is going on? I saw Julia's reference to hormones causing a weight gain and I wonder if that could be a factor. OB/GYN told me in October that I'm premenopausal but my bloodwork at that time didn't indicate that I needed hormone therapy. Ugh. I feel fat and feel like I look fat. Now, does anyone in the "real world" want to hear this??? Nooooo... HELP!!! Cheryl |

Hi Cheryl
Congrats on getting to your goal weight. Such a pretty smile and I love the color of your hair. Sorry for the delay in responding. I think that all in the maintain lane have episodes of extra weight for not a really good reason. Sometimes our bodies just metabolize food slower. How about your water intake? Exercise? Some hidden carbs in some food you are eating? Just take a good look at the whole picture. HTHs |

Yup, I have gained and lost 5 lbs. in a week. It is very scary! I am pretty careful about what I eat, I think it must be as someone has said, hidden carbs/sodium and so far for me has worked itself out without me having to change anything. If you are really concerned, go back to induction and eat clean for a few days and drink plenty of water and maybe that will do the trick.
Hang in there! |

Cheryl, glad you popped in over here. There are actually quite a few of us who have a little trouble maintaining at times. Sodium does play a part in it. I feel drinking lots, over 100 oz. will help with that in a jiffy. I never fell for the hormones causing it but I'm certainly not a Dr. so it may. If you haven't changed your eating habits, maybe up the exercise and see if that gets your metabolism back to burning it off. Maybe you aren't eating ENOUGH either. If we drop too low, it will let us know by adding a few lbs. on. Hope this helped some but if not, reply and tell us what you think.

Thanks, guys, and I think you may have found the culprit. We were administering standardized tests last week, so I pretty much talked nonstop for 2-3 hours every day (I teach an age group that has everything read aloud). As a result, my water was way down and appetite way up. I made a conscious effort yesterday to drink water. I timed myself to make sure I got it in, and sure enough, I'm back down this morning. And when I calculated what I ate yesterday, it was significantly less.
You know, I always knew that and preached the benefits of water consumption. Thanks for the reminder! And what a relief. Ya'll are great, and I'll be here a lot more often. Cheryl |

I found my weight inching up the other day & eliminated diet coke which I had only recently discovered. Back to water & I'm back down too. Skin looks great as well. I hope that I weaned myself off the diet sodas for good. My bottle of water is always nearby nowaday.
I'll look out for that sodium though. |

Cheryl - I have done the same thing, gained as much as 4.5 lbs. in one week. Water is the main factor, and when I said hormones played a part, for me that means water retention due to irregular TOM. Drinking lots of water helps, but when TOM is late sometimes even that doesn't work. The good news is that it is temporary, and even when TOM doesn't arrive it seems to subside eventually.
Hang in there. Julia |
