Wednesday, January 7

Happy Full moon day,

I am up, around and chipper. I bathed 95% last night (NEEDED IT)....still afraid to shower the compress holding back the dam that is the femoral artery though they said a full shower would be fine and the sealing would just dissolve in the water...I'll wait another day for safety and for the 5 SUPER blood thinners (Plavix) to wear off....one a day now.

We were going to FINALLY see the ElGreco show....but I decided att the last minute the 22° temp with wind chill near zero might be too stressful. We'll walk to ShopRite and I'll let Bob drag the Can-Can cart around (12 pound limit for me.)- no bowling, Julie.

Linda,
Did you get the 11 degrees my MSN was reporting for the Big Bing!

Loretta,
Boo-Hoo, no Puritan catalogue yesterday for me....maybe today???
Loretta, on a 1-10 my doctor was an 18....arguably the primary cardiologist in the country and a sweetheart to boot- even the nurses hug him- HONEST!

Everybody bundle up.

For a cool look at the heart arteries:

http://www.crd.ge.com/esl/cgsp/projects/medical/

Go to the CT Heart Arteries and do the download (5 minutes for the dial-ups....like me...seconds for you rich high-speeders (but only once then it remembers whenever you go back.)
Choose the Media Player rather than Real Player.
Once you get the tree image, Control-P starts and stops the video scan: easy to stop at any point. Just lay on the Control key and toggle the P.
They show one blockage.....very close to where mine was (RCA-right coronary artery) BUT now imagine the block about an inch long and the passage even SMALLER (if you can CONCEIVE)....law of averages had me dead 20 years ago!

ALL the other images are also KEWL beyond belief.

Hi Roger glad you are up and about and getting back to yourself.
Thanks for that web site. Nifty. That blockage was quite noticable. My DH was the Left Lateral Descending artery that was blocked. AKA the widow maker. Dbrother is having an angiogram this am. Last time he had to have a stent and he bled, and had to get some transfusions.
That web site had some other good stuff on it. I sent my DIL the site and told her to check out the pelvic delivery.

13 degrees this am and the power went out. It was out for about an hour. WHewwwww, I sure like power.

Check back l8ter.

Good morning Roger and Loretta,

Roger it's great to hear you are doing so well but it is best that you just take it easy for a few days.

What a cool site!! I saved it to my favs. Wow!

When I got up it was 8 degrees here on our thermometer and on the weather bug.

Loretta, oh dear! I sincerely hope your DB sails right through the procedure with no problems.

Glad you got your power back. I HATE when that happens.

Daughter is in the ER waiting to be admitted so we shall see. I hope they take her. We are going to pick up her puppy and feed the fish.

More later.

Morning,

Roger, I agree with Linda, take it easy for a fw days. Don't want to do any damage until it starts to heal. So what was the 5% that you didn't clean or maybe I shouldn't ask??? LOL Mend well!!

Loretta, thats awful to lose power with those temps! Sure glad it didn't last any longer than an hour. Hope DB comes through his proceedure ok too. How's DIL feeling now?

Linda, glad your DD got to the emergency room. They better admit her. It would be bad if they didn't. How long does it take to detox? Will her work give her a bad time for taking time off? Poor girl!! ((((hugs))))) to both of you.

I'm feeling much better today with renewed resolve. Have 2 of the DGD here today as school is closed for the 2nd day. Snow is still here but think Shawnee got the worst of it. Are you thawing out yet Carol?

Later..........

Hello all. Seems this website is the slowest on the internet today.

Zip, glad you are feeling better. As for that billious green wallpaper....hahahaha...what was I thinking?????? Who knows, that was 15 years or so ago. Hahaha

Montana, I hope all goes well with your daughter.

Julie, good that you are feeling better. You've sure had a time of it lately.

Got a call from my boss last night saying no work today either. All this snow and then freezing rain made for a nice thick crunchy layer on top of the snow. Finally!!!! it's starting to thaw out a little. We should be getting some rain soon. A couple days worth of rain they say. I'll be so glad to see this stuff go.

Hope all is well with everyone.

Linda,

I thought you had only sons....live and loin says the man with the hole in his groin.

Anyhoo, what's she on. Usually long term painkiller use results in tolerance rather than toxicity...fill me in- You know I love medical details (AND painkillers.)

Hi Y'all

Beautiful white wonderland here...from the window, anyway ...looks are deceptive; I don't wanna drive yet.

LOL, Jacki...our Ice Crust over the sneaux is strong enough to bear the Chuckster's weight.
Are y'all gonna take a breather from remodeling, or keep hammering away on that new bathroom..and expanded dining room? Geez, this has sure turned into a monster-sized project!

Haha, I ran across a pic the other day of wallpaper I'd used about 15 years back...LOL, what was I thinking??? well, guesss at the time, I thought it looked GOOD !

Cali / Ann....Thanks for your "explanation" post on yesterday's thread. WOW, you have an interesting life. How has your back recovery gone? DETAILS, Gal
Yup, sometimes it's kinda hard to keep up with our names at first, cause we nicknames, pet names, etc.
I'm Shawnee / Carol. I hate my name, so I used Shawnee after my golden Lab. Sadly, I had to help her pass over in Nov. Just have a 13 yr old cat now, Cherokee Charlie..aka The Chuckster.
Montana is Linda...I love the State of Montana, as she does, ..and love to call her that.
Roger is Zip, with variations...
You'll get us sorted out soon.

Ginny, (aka Dock Goddess, aka OrchidCactus ) Woo-Hoo...good news on your puter! Tell DH to keep following those hunches, whatta doll he is!

Julie, enjoy your GDs and you made me LOL re the Sneaux Angels... our temp her is now above freezing, so may see some melting soon.

Loretta, when its COLD and the power is out, even an hour can seem like forever...cause ya don't know when it will return...Hope you (and ALL of us!) don't lose it again.
Prayers and blessings to your DB; how far away is he? Bless his heart, I sure understand about anxiety causing hives...which then increases the anxiety. Hoping his proceedure goes smoothly, and you hear news soon.

Montana, sure hoping your DD gets some help quickly. Being Mom to adult kids is sometimes no picnic. Better give Zip the details, so he can calm down

ZIP/ Roger....we can all tolerate that 5% unwashed ; the main thing is..you're back!...and improved..and 95% clean Since you're beating the Law of Averages, time to hit the Casinos!

Hey Tink (Pam)...please check in with us. Since we have lots of snow here, you must have TONS.

Susan, guess you must be working today. Continued Best Wishes to your DD and her precious cargo.

Hi to my Fav Lurker.

Update.... the detox unit had no beds available so she is here and it looks like detox will take place here. I'm really worried but it's better than having her get more of that *****.

Roger I have one daughter and three sons.
Unfortunately she has been prescribed hydrocodone for over two years and did some doctor shopping to get extra so she is really hooked.

This is going to be frightening since she is getting sick now and they still don't have a bed available. We will keep calling and hope for the best. Any advice on what to do for her will be more than welcome.

Sorry to be so self absorbed so please forgive me.

A running around day. Heard from DS on DB and there is no blockage and the stents he had put in a 2 yrs ago are clean as whistles. He will go home today. He is very stressed about retirement and this is how his body deals with that stress.
No news from DIL so I am assuming all is well. She has to go back to doc tomorrow for a recheck on her blood sugar. The dumbies took it last time after she ate a big lunch and it was elevated 149 so now they want to do a fasting one.

Gee Linda I hope the hospital gave you some hints on how to help your daughter. Give her lots of water. Not sure what I would do. Did they give her some kind of rx to see her through the rough stuff.

Carol enjoy that winter wonderland from your living room window. Stay warm and safe.

No more power outages today.

In 1998 there were over 56 million new prescriptions written for hydrocodone products and by 2000 there were over 89 million. From 1990 the average consumption nationwide has increased by 300%. In the same period there has been a 500% increase in the number of Emergency Department visits attributed to hydrocodone abuse with 19,221 visits estimated in 2000. in 2001, that number jumped to 21,567. In the first half of 2002 (estimates from Jan.-June), the number of ED mentions was 12, 033.

That stuff is getting popular....I once had a variant in a VERY good OTC backache pill (Momentum)....blah...last time I bought the stuff it was magnesium salicylate (expensive aspirin)....YUCCCH...and I only realized the change when my backache remained MY BACKACHE!

She'll be alright, Linda....trouble is all the things that relieve pain are addictive, the nonaddictive stuff is a waste if space. Women of the 19th century were taking laudenum for headaches and it's a tincture of pure morphine!

Ginny,
I'm so glad you got the old Compaq a'runnin. Bet it was something simple- always is...til it's NOT!

Jolly night in planned....The walk to ShopRite was a breeze and walking into the icy blasting wwind for the first time in years without chest discomfort made me cry with joy on the way into the Newport Center Mall (Mall is a nice warm route to ShopRite in inclement weather.

(Peek out at the beautiful Full Moon....January's is called THE WOLF MOON (now, class, who knew that?)....go out and HOWL!)

Oh, Montana...
This sure sounds like a huge challenge for you and DD...I know you are tough and have Med knowledge.

Am praying you can get her accepted ASAP, this is a lot to take on.
There are meds like CLONODINE for withdrawal, but sometimes the side effects of some meds cause other problems too...as you know.
Blessings to you both.

As Loretta said, lots of water if she can get it down...hey, how about Pedialite instead of water?

Loretta,
that's great about your DB's results...now to get that anxiety under control...I hope his Doc gives him something for it...
Blessings.

Shawnee

Loretta, it's wonderful that your brother got a clean bill of health. Whew!! what a relief.

They don't give anything to patient's in detox. They make them go cold turkey. All they give them is a patch if their BP goes too high.

Carol, enjoy that winter wonderland. LOL so the Chuckster isn't heavy enough to break through the crust of ice?

Jackie, hope you enjoyed your extra day off.

Ginny, wow you did it? You are brave. Glad your computer is all fixed.

Julie, you have a house full. Enjoy those grandkids. Will they have school tomorrow?

Detox should take 5 to 7 days. UGH!

Waving to Susan, Pam and lurkers.

edited to add thanks to Roger and Carol. THis isn't going to be fun but it's necessary. Poor Gerard is beside himself and has gone off to the book store.
Roger, glad your walk was chest pain free. Way to go on your DX. Glad you pushed for it to be done ASAP.

LOLOL,

Looks like the last 3 posts came in at the same time and nobody saw the others....

Loretta, wonderful about your brother's stents....
but PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE tell me that they can check the stent with an MRI or an echogram. If they have to drill though the unwashed 5% periodically I'll panic! Already feeling loose in the bowels at the thought!

Oh thank you Annie, If you don't mind, what did you do to get through detox? I understand it's going to be pretty bad. It was explained to us that it is like the worst flu you have ever experienced.

(((hugs))) to you for getting your life back.

Finally, getting a chnace to do something for myself.

Linda, hope everything goes ok with DD. I would be scared myself since I'm not familiar with detox. I don't understand why they can't take her.

Roger, you survived to live another day!! Don't know you very well, but do you follow doctor recommendations? Sounds like they told you what to do!!

Julie, you don't have school there? Maybe I should move! Is this one of those situations where if a snowflakes falls - we dismiss.

Jacki, what type of work do you do?

Saying "hi" to everyone must get that water thread going over on "goldies".

Jacki,

Thanks for mentioning the slowness of this site....it's been KILLING me for 2 days now. Now at least I can assume it's not my computer or ISP that's doing it. It's been almost impossibly slow at times. I wonder if they are doing repairs or changes???One post yesterday took an HOUR to load for me.

Barb,
With my basic physician (GP) things are done exactly the way I want them done....he writes the prescriptions and orders the tests I ask him to order (or he's fired). With the specialists like my ear surgeon and cardiologist it's 50-50 up to the point where they work their MAGIC....then I am a 110% cooperative patient... and usually a greatful friend afterward. I've had the best of the best ear and heart surgeons and I got my SO the very best colon cancer specialist in New York (and Head of Surgery at a premiere hospital).

Moral: since Health Insurance cost is a constant, it need not enter your choice.....find the very best man you can...unless, God forbid, you're crushed in an auto-accident or fall over at the mall!
Then you take the closest person with an MD after his name.

Me again...

Ok, I haven't read everything but have a general idea of what's going on.

Zip, glad to see you back with us and it sounds like you're feeling pretty good! Very relieved all went well for ya, big guy!

Linda, {{HUGS}} to you and your DD! It will be a rough road for the both of you. I sure hope she's going to work on getting off the stuff with all this going on. Never experienced what you're going through, but I know it will be hard. Keep us posted on her progress, please, and vent here if you need to!

Loretta, great that DB is A-OK! I know y'all are very glad for that report! Cold here too, but our power stayed on--Thank God!

Cali, thanks for jumping in with your history! That couldn't be the easiest thing to do not knowing us! Stick with us and you'll get familiar with everyone pretty quick. Lots more than LC in this daily thread--everything from soup to NUTS!

Barb, around here at the sign of the first sneauxflaque (I hate snow, had my fill in MN) the grocery stores are packed and the schools close. It's really pretty silly! I just wish the natives would stay off the roads and leave them to those of us who know how to drive in it!

Shawnee, we got most everything back on the system. I'm so relieved I won't have to head hunt a new PC and get used to a new operating system. Even though I'm the young'un of the gang here, that old dog/new trick thing still applies LOL!

Jacki, is there MORE remodelling going on

Susan, how are you doing with having to go back in to the office? I bet Oliver misses his momma!

Julie, are you back to normal yet? Hope you're feeling GOOD!

Well, gang, off to lurk a bit and catch up some more....

Hi, my server has been down most of the day!!! AGAIN!!! Running around with them. Suppose to be out yesterday, then the big snow storm. It was ok for a few days when they called to cancel, said they'd call back Friday. Going to dock them their pay for the days I've been without my BB. LOL

BArb, Yeah! When it snows around here or let me say, when they THINK it might snow, school is cancelled or 2 hours late. Luckily for the parents, we very seldom have snow here. Good thing as our hills and moist, slippery snow is not good to be out and about. Yesterday, stores and everything cancelled. Even the government bases closed. No nothing open. I think Starbucks was open! I'm serious. Can't have any cranky homebound people around on days like that!! LOL Rains have returned so hoping it's gone tomorrow so this little chick can finally get out from under these walls. Being sick for over a week, one day out and then snowbound. DGD were good as gold today. Got our 1,000 piece puzzle done in 2 days. Not bad, huh?

Linda, you have been in my thoughts today. Prayers are all I can offer sweetie. Gosh it's too bad they can't give her something to counter the effects of withdrawal. ((((hugs)))))

Roger, so glad you had a good outing and no pain!! Thats wonderful. They said the bb were slow because of all the NEW RESOLUTION PEOPLE on here. It'll be ok in a week or so when they go off the woe. LOL

Hi Ginny! Glad you got the restore done. I admire you for attemping it. I'd never do it. I hire someone so I wouldn't get all stressed out. Stress makes my rosacia to come out full force.

Carol and Jacki, are you still getting the ice or is it finally starting to melt?

Hi Cali, sorry to say, I haven't been able to catch up on the bb. Nice to see you posting and have patience with us, we are one crazy bunch.

Susan and Pam...hi and get your bu!!s in here.....

edited to say....Ginny, I'm just fine today!! had the 2 DGD here today and got my fix. Great girls. Sorry, I needed to vent and we always take it out on the ones we love, huh?????

Loretta, sure glad the power didn't last any longer. Ok now??
