Friday, September 5
Hello gang,
Well, last mini trip of the Summer was a bust. At dawn yesterday, they called Bob in to work (turns out for both Thurs. and Friday. I was GOING to take the car alone and THEN it seems the weatherman got his timing wrong and it looked like rain all day yesterday. Had the weatherman been right, he'd have "HIDDEN" from the work call. I e-mailed ENTERPRISE again and cancelled the car reservation. It's official: THIS SUMMER WAS A CATASTROPHE! Cold and damp this morning with some signs of clearing. I'll do two rebates (printer and Norton Security) and maybe install the new printer. Pokey, eh? Shawnee, What amperage did they bump your household service to? About 200? It's not really so much about the circuit breaker that you use but rather the HEFT (thickness) of the incoming wires. Seems Myrtle Beach was named for the WAX MYRTLE trees in profusion on the beach as you guessed. A little history: http://myrtlebeachgolfsecret.com/myr...ch_history.htm Linda, On the roller excercise, do I face the wall, have it perpendicular to me or something else (like 45° )? How fast do I "roll?" How many reps? Ginny and Loretta, Looks like some miserable weather pushing your way from the Gulf. Susan, Wheeee....Channel 21 added 2 of my OLD favorite Britcoms to THURSDAY (in ADDITION to all night Friday): THE GOOD NEIGHBORS (Wheeee) and WAITING FOR GOD. I'm in pig heaven! Julie, How was the waterfront lunch. I regret never having gone to Seattle....Well, I suppose we could RENT A CAR. ![]() ![]() ![]() Jackie, Sore feet are a pain in the...well......foot. Pam, welcome back. ![]()

Zip, I regret you never got to Seattle too. It is a beautiful city and area. Of course we think west of there on our little penninsula is much prettier and not as congested and traffic woe's to deal with. With all the sunshine this year, it's not quite as green as it usually is but at least most of it isn't black from fire yet. Still holding our breath's as it is still a very high fire danger. Some rain coming for a few days Sunday.
What a bummer on your vac. plans. Sounds like you were just plain doomed. You need to get on an airplane and get somewhere sunny....oh yea, how about Seattle??? Maybe you can still get a short trip in spur of the moment this fall, huh? Tuesday is the day for cable high speed coming to me. Is it best to just buy a cable modem Zip? Didn't realize I would have to have that til my DS2 told me I would either have to buy it or rent it every month. Where do I go to buy one I wonder. Off to bowling this morning and then a memorial for a good friend who keeled over on vac. from a heart attact. So sad! I'm getting pretty sick of these funerals. That is the 3rd one so now it's over for a long time. Right? Susan, Whoppie!!!! Have lost the weight I put on. Down to 117.5, my lowest weight and as low as I want to go. Feel good that I was able to get it off in 1 1/2 weeks. Probably most of it was water but 122 scared me. At least I didn't say my usual..."Oh well, I blew it so might as well forget it." How are ya doing on yours? I color my hair too and have no idea how much of it is grey. I almost decided to let it go natural but ..... do I really want to look my age???? LOL Pam, nice to heaar from you. Check in as you can. Shawnee, so did you write down that recipe revision you made for candy? I think we all would be interested please. Loretta, did you catch any fish? Our little Madison is a real spitfire. Sure a cute personaltiy though. Glad you liked the pcis. We are mostly all Gramma's over there so guess it's ok to post our DGK pics. Ginny, it is hard to relax some time. I do that at the puter. LOL DH thinks I'm obssessed with it but I love it. Jacki, take care of the feet. They are important!! Linda, resting today? Shawnee, poor pup. It must really upset him to have something out of the ordinary going on. Well, it's over now. It's going to be 80 here today. Just right!!! A big change coming though. 69 for Sunday.... Later, Julie Last edited by Jewels60 : 09-05-2003 at 10:20 AM. |

Julie,
You'll need something like these:http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati....asp?CatId=160 I've never shopped one but Tiger Direct tends to have low, low prices on everything. You can use these as standards and toddle off to STAPLES or COMP USA or whatever you have. Then compare the rental with the bought one, remembering that they will stand behind their rental (presumably.) I'd say for $3-4 a month, rent; over that, buy! I presume they'll install one you bought yourself....or will YOU have to do it. Linda, What did you do? Rent from Time Warner or buy your own? Last edited by zip2play : 09-05-2003 at 10:55 AM. |

Hi everybody,
Oh Roger, what a shame your last trip of this crummy summer was a bust. It's been a nasty year all over the country. Well, it's about time you sent those rebates in guy. Printer installed quite easily for me so I hope it goes smoothly for you too. When I use the roller, I just pretend I'm painting, facing the wall and stretching my roller arm in all directions..left, right, up and down.. I use slow, steady strokes. I don't count the reps but do it for maybe 5 minutes at a time. Do it several times a day. Interesting article on Myrtle Beach. You and Bob should take a trip there for a week or so in the fall. The water is still warm and the crowds are gone. Rates can't be beat either. Computer question... when we go away should we unplug the thing or just turn it off? I'm worried about power surges. Julie, I'm so sorry about all the deaths of friends and family you have been through. My computer came with an E card or something like that and the modum was installed by the cable company. I wonder if some place like Radio Shack or Staples would have them. Give them a call. We may check into that too but I don't know if owning one will reduce our Road Runner bill. Shawnee, OMG those recipes look good. I'm going to order some wheat protein isolate from one of the sites I have and see how that stuff is. Whey does have a "funny" taste and is much more expensive than wheat AND I can't find it in our local hfs. Pam, When are you going to be rid of all that company and get back to us? Ginny, Did work go well last night and the temps stay in the comfort range? Waving to Loretta, Susan, Jackie and lurkers. We are going to the local arena for a clothing sale. Maybe we will find some good bargins. Our local Wegman's had some great looking sea scallops, no water added, on sale yesterday for only 8.99 lb. Can't wait to bite into those babies. YUMM> Later gang. . |

Dang Zip one cancelled plan after another. Sorry you missed again. Our weather man has promised us SUNSHINE for the next week or so. So I sure hope we don't get more rain. I got those cars washed up today and ready for traveling.
Julie I had to install my own 10/100 Lan card, but I think your new PC probably has it already. Most of the new ones come with it already installed. I do have a DSL modem that the installers brought with them when they installed it. It was a free deal when I signed up for it. Glad you enjoyed lunch with the golden gals. Congrats on that 117.5. HOW do you do that. I would be interested in seeing your menu. I sure would like to be just a little under 120 and have tried lots of different things but my 120 is solid for the past 5 months at least. Sorry to hear about your long time friend. You have been attending a lot of funerals recently. DH's SIL died recently but the BIL did not call us at all but called DD after the funeral. It was DH's first wife's brother's wife. She has been ill for quite a while. Linda I would unplug that computer. That can't hurt for sure. I did not get to do much playing with my adult toy because DH came in from fishing early. Too windy with whitecaps on the lake. One of my DS's really likes Mrytle Beach and goes there frequenlty. I like the new Firefighters logo you are sporting on the Golden Bb. Shawnee poor pup having her territory invaded by strangers. I know just how she feels. Glad the job is done and you are "wired" and ready to keep baking in the nuker. More recipes to save and try. Will it never end. My DB made something called "energy bars" I want to try when we visit. Nuts, sunflower seeds, olive oil and some other ingredients. I will bring some muffins for them to try. ' Jackie sorry to hear about the sore feet. Wise idea to take the days off and rest them up and do see the doctor. Hope DH gets to fish and get you some salmon. Susan you Dd sure gets lots of company. 10 days I agree with Linda about wanting to keep my privacy. Does your DD work? It is difficult to be "entertaining" so much unless the company is self sufficient and can get around and give DD and her hubby their own free time. Glad your scales are cooperating. Hope your day at work is easy on you.Ginny those new pups are keeping you busy. How is that potty training coming along? Has your weather cooled like ours has. It is beautiful out there. I'm with you on the hair coloring. Seems like another "chore" to keep up with. My dark brown hair is dispersed with lots of gray. Sort of gives me my own "frosted" look. Later guys Hi to Pam and our other lurkers. |

Hey y'all,
Another gorgeous day here. Supposed to be in the low 80's today so another nice day for jeans. Turned off the A/C in the house and have the windows open! Really nice to have some fresh air in the house again. I'm not much of an a/c baby, but it is necessary, especially if I'm cooking and the kitchen tends to heat up. Puppies are doing just fine. On Monday we take them in for their 2nd set of shots, and then they'll be all set till they are old enough for rabies shots. They are growing like weeds, and it will be interesting to see what they weigh in at! Big dogs are getting along with the pups very well. Nitro still thinks Bull's tail is a toy, and it's funny to watch hime chase it and her to evade! I got on the scale today and it said 123!!!!!!! I'm going to try to get to 120 and hold it there. That's what I originally lost to, but life kinda got in the way and I stabilized at 125. I think I look much better without those pesky 5 pounds, so we'll see what my body has to say about it. I do believe that when you hit a good weight for yourself, your body accepts it and will stay there fairly easily. If I have to work too hard to get to 120 and stay there, then I'll know 125 is where I'm good at. Shawnee, poor pup, getting invaded like that. Bub always supervises projects, but we don't let him do that when they're being performed by outsiders. I think he gets miffed when we put him outside in the yard, but he's a big boy--he'll get over it! I know you're glad it's done with and all is normal again! Zip, sorry the vac plans are a bust. Maybe this fall y'all can go somewhere. It will work out eventually when the timing is right. Linda, it was down in the upper 50's last night! Sure felt good to have some cooler air! I know the weather has done some changing here, elbow and wrist are saying so ![]() Loretta, so you're all geared up for the trip Gee, if I washed the van, everyone would see how bad the paint is on it! Good ol' Chevys in the late 80's had such awful paint! Ah well, pretty don't make it run any better.Susan, hope your workday goes smoothly and quickly. Oliver will sure be glad to have his mom home for the weekend! Julie, so what's your bowling average now? When I was on league (many many years ago) I ended with a 142 average. My highest game was a 165...that night it seemed I could do no wrong DH's high game is 212.Jacki, hope that foot settles down really quick. Stay off it and do what you need to do. Sore feet make your whole body feel bad. One thing I WILL spend top dollar for is good work boots. Even tho I'm on forklift for the majority of my job, I still do a lot of walking there and need to be in cushioned comfort ![]() Well, all, better lurk for just a minute then feed the yard art...

Hi Y'all
another hot day here, I think our 23rd this summer of over 90° , which is a record-breaker. Sure hope that promised rain materializes soon. My water bill is gonna be scarey! Poor ZIP, you and Bob have had some bummer luck trying to get out of town, and I hope y'all can still get in a trip somewheere before Winter. Yup, its 200.....and a big hole in the wall. The new box is much larger, and to get to the lead in wires easily, Bob told the guy to whack out a huge space......GRrrr,...so Bob will have to do some sheetrocking, build a new "hiding" door.....and I'll have to paint. Ha, we have the opposite problem for traveling, been too hot / NO rain...hate to take Pup anywhere in the heat...and no one wants to babysit a pup that has epileptic seizures and diabetic comas. I'm earning my fluffy cloud in Heaven, right? LOL Montana, hope it was fun at the Sale, and ya found good bargains. About Whey; its easily found locally, HF and large grocery chains. In baked goods, it has a grainy texture I don't care for, but its LC, so I add a little in for bulk now and then. In the Bar recipe, there is no taste or texture of it, so I'm pleased with that ![]() Loretta, hope your relatives enjoy your Muffins, and you their Energy Bars...have a Recipe Exchange Wonderful that you will get to see some Family.Goddess, you Skinny-Gin....I thought you were fairly stable at 125 for years Good to hear the FurBabies have integrated well into the Group...they must be such fun to watch at play. Susan, bet you are looking forward to the weekend, huh? Was thiking of you while out watering "your" English roses. Jacki, will you be able to keep off your foot (feet) ?? Sorry it wasn't well mended yet. Another gal on our block told me she has been LCing, then said she was making Raisin Muffins...rude me, I didn't tell her any differently...she's on a new "diet" every week, but most of her exercize comes from elbow-bending, and I just don't have the patience for lazy people. (God will probably get me for that, but I'm too old to change my opinions!) LOL Hey, Tink...if you're Lurking thru here...Hope all's well in your world, and you get a chance to catch us up on happenings in Gambling Land. ![]() Julie, so sorry to hear you have lost yet another one. It does seem to come in Threes, huh? My bowling was never great; I did manage a nice Lefty curve ball now and then..but gutter balls also! Here's my version of the bars...very firm, very rich Chocolate Caramel Nut Bars 2 1/3 C Vanilla Whey 3 TBLS Cocoa 1/2 C Butter 4 oz Cream Cheese 1/2 C chopped nuts 1/2 C SF Coconut (optional) 1/2 SF Choc chips ( optional) pinch salt 1 tsp Vanilla 1/3 C Splenda 1/4 C SF DaVinci ( I used Caramel) Heat butter, cream cheese, and Cocoa together in Nuker, then stir well. Add in Splenda, Vanilla and DaVinci, Salt, mix well..Stir in the Whey and nuts, chips and coconut. This is the messy part, and disposable gloves are handy ...finish mixing with your hands. Butter well a rectangle or square casserole (like 8 x 8, and I use cold butter) Then press and flatten the gooey mess into the pan and stick it in the fridge to cool. Later...hope everyone has a good weekend. ShawneeLast edited by shawneesioux : 09-05-2003 at 02:32 PM. |

Shawnee, we do get whey protein isolate around here but not Wheat protein isolate. I understand the wheat is much better for baked goods. Guess I didn't make myself clear. I have only one or two sites that sell Wheat protein so I'll order some from them.
The sale was a HUGE disappointment. Oh well, live and learn. Hopefully your area will get some much needed rain soon and cool down a bit. Yikes! Poor pup would have a very difficult time traveling in that heat. You are on city supplied water? Sorry about that. We have a deep well so no water bill like we had in the city but we worry about the well pump breaking. Now you won't have to worry about electric for a very long time. Our box is in the basement utility room which was never sheet rocked. I'm not going to worry about that since I can close the door and not look in there. That's Gerard's area. Ginny, you should get the pups activities on video. I bet it's a HOOT! Poor little things aren't going to like going for those shots. My furbabies always KNEW where they were going as we headed in the direction of the vets, and I had to drag the dogs into the bldg. Poor babies. Glad it was a nice cool night for you at work. You will get to that 120 mark easily. Just watch the carbs a little more. Loretta, you and I would make good hermits, eh? I'm a little concerned about my brother in Montana. He said he is going to drive his new car across country maybe in Dec. to visit. My mom had 5 bedrooms and he may stay there but the last time he visited, he wanted to have a "jammie" party here one night. Guess I'll live through it though.Sorry you didn't get to play with your adult toys. Maybe you can find some private time over the weekend. Are you getting excited about the trip? When are you leaving? I know it's not a good idea to put such info on a public bb so you could pm or e mail all of us so we don't worry. I'll do the same just before we leave. It's still overcast here and we did get a shower again this am. Right now the sun is trying to come out but who knows. Later. |

Hi Montana...must have had my head up my ........, LOL..I didn't get the Wheat PP idea. Yup, I have Lowcarbman's addy for it ..just haven't gotten around to ordering it. Also, I have read that you have to "learn" how to bake with it...to understand its capabilities. Or I could just cheat, and follow one of Carolyn F's great recipes
![]() Hey, what's this about Loretta's Adult Toys???? I wanna play too! Do tell all ![]() Bummer bout the Sale. Wish our Box was hidden, its in the kitchen. Yeah, the traveling for Pup is ok with the AC on...its the sitting while stopped or trying to find shade for her that's the bummer. Here's a pic of the Bars on a saucer...got 18 pieces from an 8 x 8 pan. ![]() |

Hi Guys!
Just checking in, had a painful spasm in my back, above the waist, came on late last night, took an anti inflammatory before bed but woke up at 3a.m. in excruitiating pain. Found some Robaxacet old ones, took one at 3:30a.m went back to bed and slept, up at 7a.m. took another, back to bed, called work to say I wouldnt be in. Took another at 10:30a.m. and then started to feel a bit easier, still having to be careful which way I turn. I took another around noon and these 4 seem to be holding me. I will probably take another before bed. I will go to the Walk-In Docs tomorrow morning, for a script. I will ask for that carisoprody Roger! YIkes, this certainly came out of the blue! The lower back is usually where the disc bulges and gives me siatica, still have small remnants of that, but the spasm was something else! This gettin OLD is no fun eh?DS's partners' Father died of a heart attack on Wednesday evening after a family supper. He was 56, we did not get to meet him as this is a new relationship. He was a healthy guy, no smoking, no drinking and chiropractor and homeopathic doctor. His family are in shock! DS is trying to be supportive to his partner and feels a bit helpless at this time. This young age of 56 is a little too close to home, which underlines for me that WE should have some FUN everyday! Roger, glad your FAV shows are back on! Sorry about the Vac plans! The boat trip looked fun that Jacki posted. Linda's tip about Myrtle Beach sounds a reasonable $$. We went there a few years back and had a good time!Linda, you asked about the Curry the other night. I just cubed some extra lean sirlion, cooked a large spanish onion in a little oil, added the meat and a couple of large diced tomatoes and 8 Tbsps of Patakas Madras Curry, cooked in the pressure cooker to tenerize the beef, then in the oven to reduce the wetness. I had the oven on anyway for the coconut pie. Shawnee, those bars look tempting. I dont have all the ingredients again. I dont have the Whey or the Syrup, waiting for NOvember to buy-out the stores in Florida. Thank you for thinking of me when you water your English Roses! Hope the Pup recovers from her ordeal with the Electricians invading her territory! Ginny and Julie, Congrats on the weightloss. I am still up. 2lbs gone, 2lbs to go. Good for you Guys! Yes, Julie it is great now we dont say, well I just blew it and do nothing about it.Working on getting back in control! Loretta, I am unable to post a pic as I do not have a digital camera. We bought DS one when they first came out and paid $700.00 for it, a ridiculous price by these days. DSIL has one, so I will try to get him to take a pic and help me post it, but dont hold your breath..... Jacki, put those proverbial FEET UP! You deserve it! Are you able to wear a comfortable shoe yet? Thanks for sharing your boat house trip!Hi Pam, glad you dropped in the other night! Till tomorrow, whatever that will bring? ![]() |

Susan sorry to hear about your back giving out on you. Maybe some physical therapy is in order and some pain rx. Hope the pain subsides quickly for you.
Linda Yes I could easily be a hermit. I know I want to make the trip north and see everone but I could just as easily stay home and play with my adult toys. Too bad that sale did not work out for you. Shawnee those bars look delicious. Next time I am in a health food store I will have to look for those ingredients. unless I fall in love with DBs energy bars. I don't think the ingredients included the whey or wheat protein isolate. I will be taking some of my adult toys along on the trip. A few puzzles, pillows to quilt, book to read, etc. L8ter, Loretta |

Roger, thanks for the tips about a cable modem. I called today and it will only cost me $3.00 a month. Still unsure but guess we'll rent for awhile anyway. Can always change our minds at a later date. Your right that if something went wrong then they have to fix it and not me.
Susan, wow! I can sure relate to back spasms. I took muscle relaxers though and they helped me in 2 days. Have had very few since and then usually work with one pill. I feel so sorry for you. Do go to the walk in and get something for it. What a shame about your DS's partners father. He was so young. It does hit home when someone like that dies. The friend that we went to the memorial today was 61 but I'm 60 and DH is 61. He also died just like that. His wife told me today they were vacationing and he was laughing one minute and the next, dead. That quick. Sure makes you rethink some priorities doesn't it? Ginny, I bowl about 153-155 average. I have not been doing real great this year but today was much better. Shawnee, recipe looks real good. I've never cooked with Whey or wheat protein. Guess I'll get some. Loretta, I just cut waaaaay back on the carbs for awhile until they came off. It's not easy but I didn't want it to get out of hand. I usually eat 2 cinmamon muffins/spongebob's bread for breakfast, lunch is cheese, (which I eat way too much of) 1 handful of walnuts, and /or some leftover meat from the day befores dinner. Also another option is 3 scrambled eggs w cheese. If I go out for lunch, I at a salad w chicken. Today I ate some celery w P. B. I don't eat all of that, just some of idea's I use. Dinner is usually just 3 or 4oz. of meat and a big salad and vegi. sf jello for dessert You can do it if you set your mind to it. May want to wait until after vac. Julie, good idea to rent it for that price. Ours is about 45 bucks a month. Boy you are getting off easy there.
I don't blame you for cutting back on the carbs. We stay at or about induction levels on some days. Those legal treats can get out of hand. I'm so sorry about your friend. It really hits home when they are our age. Fortunately he went quick and didn't suffer.Loretta, Enjoy that trip. Are you doing the driving or is dh? Susan, bummer about your back. Hopefully the muscle relaxers will do the job and take care of it. I'm so sorry about your DS's partner's dad. That is far too young to go. My deepest sympathy to all. Thanks for the curry recipe. I'm going to give it a try soon. Maybe in Myrtle beach. Shawnee, those bars look great. DH saw them ( he lurks here all the time) and wants to give them a try. I'll have to check out Carolyn's recipes. Dang, I haven't had a lot of time to get on line lately for some reason. Gotta get back into it. |
