Hump day! 08-13-03
Hey everyone,
Me first again?!? I went to bed early last night, @ 12:30, which is very early for me to tap out. I must have needed some extra sleep Scale is going in the right direction.Shawnee, your day yesterday sure sounds perfect! And the blackberries....yum. We give you permission to hogtie Jacki if it becomes necessary. Jacki, stay off the dadgum foot would ya? We want you all healed up! I hear ya on the junk/snack stuff that you keep around for others. I have that kind of stuff here for DH and have gotten to the point that it's pretty easy to ignore. He has a metabolism that lets him eat WHATEVER he wants. Grrrrrrrr...... Loretta, that quilt looks great! Wow! Have you ever done a Minnesota Vikings one? If you ever attempt one let me know what you charge....that's our team! Linda, see you can grow stuff. Now get your butt out hunting an orchid! Remember, you have plenty of support here for growing them! Zip, how's your stay-at-home vacation? Sometimes those are the best kind, just being able to go play and still have all your stuff you need. Susan, I haven't really heard much about WNV here. Where we're at, there are very few skeeters and I can sit out in the evenings and NOT get bit! Other parts of the state are not so lucky, but we have virtually no standing water here at home. Have you had Oliver checked for his thyroid? My middle child has slow thyroid and she is on Soloxine for it. Our vet says a slow thyroid in dogs will intensify any allergies, and dogs show allergies via skin problems. Hope they figure out what it is soon and he's a happy camper again. Julie, glad you're home safe and sound, now if we could get you feeling good again! Time to kick back and take it easy for a while and regroup. Pam, hope all is well with you. We know you're busy with family there, so pop in as you can. Hey to all you lurkers! Well, off to check and see what's going on....

Hi folks.
Can't says I relish being hogtied!! So I'll do better. Nice weather here today. In the dark of the a.m. I looked out and got a good view of the moon and mars....anyone else see mars? Pretty Kewl! Too early and too sleepy to try to see the meteor shower....I'd have had to get the flashlight to avoid doggie poopies and slugs. This morning I have an interview for a different postion at the school. I'm a lunch lady and a job came open for lead cook at one of the elem schools. I don't know why they are bothering with interviews...we are union and I'm sure someone with more senority than me put in for that job. Interview or no---the one with the senority has to get the job. Oh well....you just go along huh? Hey..here's couple pics of a flower bulb that Shawnee gave me a couple years ago. This spring it gave us this----- That's hubby's arm close up Oh....and it smelled of rotten meat!!! ![]() |

Good Day Magnificient Ones!
Another gorgeous Sunny day up here, a bit hot though. Off to DDs to sample the pool, gonna pack Oliver up in the car. He is off to the Vet tomorrow, Thanks Ginny I will ask about his Thyroid. I guess no Soy eh Linda? That's great ya dont have skeeters in your area! Glad to hear the pounds are coming off, me too this morning down 1lb, so a couple more to pull back. Sounds like ya needed to catch up on your sleep too! Hi Jacki, What a Vulgar Plant! Marvellous Pic though! Shawnne the Pork turned out well. I chickened out and made the recipe the slow cooker book had. I think the recipe with the Syrup will have to be done in the Oven in the Fall too hot yet to put the oven on, although I did have it on 350 for the coconut pie last night. Julie, thanks for the funny! Are ya back from your Anniversay Trip yet? Waving to Ya'll, hope to check back later! ![]() |

Hi Y'all
My body is telling me I'm OLD today..LOL...had a great workout yesterday in the yard...the yard won; it looks better, I feel worse! The love of Flora and Fauna taxes the mind and body cause they both demand attention Going to Curves today, hopefully work out the stiffness. Bob offered to help yesterday, but his idea of pruning is done with a chain saw , ground level Susan, from somewhere in the dark recesses of my dimming mind, I pulled up an old factoid bout Pups not requiring Vit C...something to ask the Vet about, cause I'm so forgetful. I did have a Hypo Pup at one time. He gained weight too easily, and as Ginny stated, it contributed to skin-allergy problems. ( Happens with humans too, I am prone to Hives.) Enjoy your time with DD and that pool! Good luck with the Vet visit. Jacki, LOL...Love the NASTY pic of the Lily Ginny and ZIP will have fun with the name. Hope you score some major points in your Interview. Ginny is serious bout that Hog tie stuff. We have had "virtual" trips across the country for butt-kicking anyone who gets outta line LOL....also Virtual Parties in her GreenHouse when we are good ( I sometimes worry for our sanity )Bob got a good viewing of Mars. Hehee, I had to take care of the Pup's Landmines yesterday. Ginny, glad to hear your Scales are showing good results. What's going on in your GH now?To all, hope your day is good; be back later. A morphing phallus...sheesh! Excellent pic! Wonder what the Holy Rollers would do if I put that one anonomously in a church flowerbed complete with NAMETAG! LOL Living in the Bible Belt could have it's advantages (insert evil laugh here)
Shawnee, you just reminded me to do some situps. ![]() Jacki, are you staying off that foot? Have lariat at the ready... Susan, let us know what the vet says! Off to torture my abdominal muscles.... |

Hi gang,
Susan, I posted last night but guess you missed it...just as well, was complaining again!! How is Oliver? Guess I missed whats up with him.. Fill me in. Sure hope it's nothing serious. Ginny, I am feeling fine now, thanks for your concern. Am sure ready to stay home for awhile. Sounds like you are a night owl like Linda and me. Love to stay up late but also love to sleep late in the morning. Now that we are retired, hey, it's possible. Bowling starts next week, 2 X a week and start at 10:00. Going to be hard to get up and going that early!! Lol Ginny, those orchids in the bark, seem to dry out quite quickly. I soak them for 5 minutes but seem to be quite dry in about 3 days. Is this the norm for summer months? Jacki, that flower name sure gave me a good laugh!! It really stinks?? Did ya thank Shawnee?? LOL It is quite exotic looking though. Shawnee, sorry for all the complaining! Am going to be working on that so repremand me any time you want. Hi to Zip, Pam, Linda and Loretta....Julie

Hello to everybody.
Phooey, I'm not getting anybody's pics today. PhotoIsland must be under water temporarily but since it's 5:16 PM I guess computers are loaded on right now. Maybe I'll see the stinky phallus tomorrow. Linda, That $300/week is a nice price these days. Susan, Sad about Oliver's jock rash, have you ever tried Sulfadene. I used it for my cats a lot. No Britcom Vote; both my PBS channels are boring my asp off with the bimonthly- all- monthly PLEDGE nonsense . Dreadful shows shown over and over and over again with continuous begging. Shawnee, The high price of gardening <owww>. HBO called Bob back to work next week for 6 days. I hope it's VERY part time. I will join the downstairs gym next Monday. Time to do some apartment cleanup now. The final count on the local rain: 17 days straight...finally over! Later gaters.

Hi Guys,
Back agin! Yes, had a dip in the pool, the temp was just right, like bathwater! It was 35 celsius up here this aft, I think that is is 95F so the pool was a welcome treat. I was sitting in the shade of one of her umbrellas, the sun was and still is very strong. Oliver found a spot under the lounger beds in the shade,we had water down for the dogs. He came to the edge of the pool when I went in, but stayed there, just curious, but not to come in! DD's company are leaving for England tonight, so they are off to the airport at 8p.m. She has a break for about a week, then her DHs parent's come over. Asking for help agin! I have been chasing a job at the local Community College and I finally have an interview, she called today, so going on Monday, from the sounds of it, it is mine! It is only one day a week through the school year, Sept till April. I asked about vacation and she said two weeks at Christmas and a week in February. Yikes, you guessed it, what about Florida?????? If I want the job I have to forfeit FLA, 2 weeks in November and 2 weeks in February. I dont think they will go for that, do you?? DH said let it go, it is only 7 hours a week, it is good pay and something I wanted to add to my resume, but the COST IS too high, whadya all think????? I love being part time but filling my hours per week, every season gets to be weary! All the searching and juggling pieces together. I was just thinking of spreading my wings a bit, for the experience and the resume bit. Julie, Whoops, I will have to go back and read last nights posts. Oliver just has a rash, he has had it over a year now, the vet has treated it with several creams, injections and now these drops, called Revolution that treat heartworm too. I guess this mite, that causes the rash is stronger than his immune system. Roger took note of the Sulfadene. I agree, about PBS. DH and I are eagerly awaiting the Fall line up on PBS, A&E, we tape most of the detective shows, just taped MI-5 a new show on A&E not sure if it is any good yet, havent watched it yet. We tape from TV Ontario too another public broadcasting station. Ginny, Wow, sit-ups......nuf said. I need to get down and do them again too! I want to join Curves or one of the other two gyms in the area, just afraid to lay out the $$$s and then not use it. Shawnee, Thanks for the info on Vit C and pups. I guess they dont need it unless that is why they eat grass sometimes. I heard brocolli water is good for animals lots of anti cancer stuff in brocolli. Anyhoo, I have lots of questions for the Vet! Waving to Loretta, Linda, Pam and Jacki. Have a great evening All, ![]() |

Hi to all in this early evening
Got the refrig fixed today and the cost was only $35 not the $70 as quoted. Some elbow was clogged up, easily removable it you knew what to look for. It was on the back of the fridge. He gave it a test and it will work fine. Ginny don't know when I have stayed up past 10:30PM. I guess it is because I am usually up at 5:30 or so most days. I have lots of "stuff" I want to do. Glad that the scale is cooperating. I have made Georgia Bulldog quilts, Titans, Chicago Bears. Not a problem to make but getting the material is sometimes costly. On line it is way to expensive. If you have a family shopper up there in Min and could get a deal for you I can make the quilt. Price depends on how big you would want it and what design you would want to use. Jackie that plant is something else. The name sure fits the design on the plant. Odd that it has a bad odor. The pictures are great. What sort of camera are you using? Susan hope the vet can have some good news for Oliver. Get that list of questions ready and fire away. Not sure what to advise you about the job. They might let you go for your usual trip. You can only ask and see what happens. Glad you got to get in that pool and do some aquatic exercise. Shawnee too bad that yard worked you over like that. Hope you got some rx and that Curves helped get out the kinks. It is so hard not to overdo. Just one more limb to cut or weed to whack, been there. LOL on Bob's idea of pruning. I have a zucchini or 2 out there if they make it to maturity. Cukes and toms doing great. Have a bunch of grapes to pick also. Julie complain away if you want. We will listen. I have been known to get wound up occasionally. Hey, how is that corn? Bowling that soon already. What time of day do you get up. Does DH sleep late also. My Dh sleeps really late but I feel free in the mornings and come and go. He is up by 11 or 12 some days. I check to make sure he is breathing before I head out in the morning. Zip I was afraid that the worm got a hold of you. Hope you get to see the pics. Your vacation "time" is passing by quickly. Linda thanks for the pictures of your nuker pan and something else. Are you all set to bake. I have been making my custard in the nuker and it turns out quite well. 70% for about 4-6 min for 3 of them. I have to keek checking them because they rise up out of the custard cups. I sure like seeing everyones pics. This www is great. Later Loretta |

PSSSSSSSSST Loretta, my toe is fine!!!!!!!!
Yes, now that DH isn't working, we slept til 8:00 this morning. I get up about that time every morning but for some reason, it takes me forever to get going. Could it be I get on this computer??? Naaaahhhhh...can't be!! The days I bowl, I'll just stay off it and get busy getting ready. I think it's attitude, just lazying around. Had to get up for so long and now don't have to. Thats funny about checking your DH to see if he's breathing. Well, maybe not so funny. LOL Susan, is Olivers rash allergy related or maybe a yeast infection? My Bo is on 2 allergy tabs a day for itching and chewing his feet. He gets rashes on his inner thigh and chews it til there is no hair there. Dr. wants to keep putting him on Prednisone and I keep saying "NO." Roger, glad that virus didn't get you. Don't scare us like that. Julie |

Hi again
![]() Oh, ZIP...poor Bob must be popular and talented, he got snatched up again! When ya hit the Gym, please don't overdo...your back will thank you later ![]() I sure had a good sweaty workout at Curves. Thought I'd continue with the Yard afterward, but Bob had other plans for my physical abilities...LOL...painting some trim and carport posts he had prepped. Must admit, the parts I actually finished look good, but the contrast against the unfinished is not! Tomorrow will see me slinging paint again.Ginny, please mentor me thru the results of my moment of weakness: an OrKid jumped into my grocery cart.... Ok, its officially adopted now, christened Dolly Parton cause its flashy/trashy/frilly yellow, a slu*ty-lookin' little Gypsy of a thang. ![]() Only info is Orchid Oncidium, and some care instructions. I'll post a pic soon. Currently in indirect light, west window...had its 5-minute soak, the roots are snaking thru the holes of the pot. BTW, ...LOL...interesting plan on where to plant that NASTY Liily of Jacki's ! ![]() Loretta, great price for the fridge fix...guess at least $30 of it was for knowing where to look! Please tell us which Custard recipe you're using. Boy, I hear ya about checking for DH's breathing...if Bob is NOT snoring, it scares me! I'd love to sleep in sometimes too, but Pup wakes me up wanting her food and meds on schedule...7 AM during DST. LOL, she keeps me on a fairly even timetable. Julie, LOL ...Good luck with your Golden challange. (Yup, I sometimes Lurk there.)Jacki, did ya baby that foot today? ( Ginny wants to know also ...) Montana, are you working today? How's the Fire circumstances around your Brother's place in Missoula? Susan...wow, tough call on that decision...pros and cons, huh? Glad you and Oliver enjoyed your time poolside. Time to be Suzy Chef now, gotta go sizzle some steaks. ShawneeLast edited by shawneesioux : 08-13-2003 at 07:42 PM. |

Shawnee you sure peeked up my interest when I was reading that Bob had other plans for my physical abilities...LOL... Sure got my curiousity aroused as to what would follow.
So glad that Dolly Parton found a home with you. I can hardly wait to meet that gal. Julie glad that the toe is healed. The computer sure takes up a lot of my time too. I keep saying I am going to cut back some but somehow my day is not complete until I get in here and socialize. Thanks for the camera info Jackie. Loretta |

Hi Everyone, I'm finally getting here.
Ginny, I'm so happy the scales are going in the right direction for you. I wish I could get to bed early some nights but if I do, I don't fall asleep no matter how tired I am. OK, when we get back from Montana, I'll seriously look for an orchid. Haven't seen any in Wally world or Lowe's lately. Jackie, What a nice looking plant. LOL love Ginny's morphing phallus title. We are going to check out the night sky tonight and see the show hopefully.Julie, I guess you and I are hopeless night owls. I LOVE it. I'm about to go outside and look for the night sky show. Hopefully it's not too cloudy. Glad your toe is getting better. It must have really hurt. Roger, we were getting worried about you. Glad your computer isn't down. Yes, 300 per week is almost unheard of these days. It's a cute, clean little place. Hopefully it will be there for many years. The one across the street went from 200 a week to $92 per day Bummer that Bob got called into work. Have you thought of going up to Mass. now that the weather is getting better? Susan, why don't you do what I did. I told them if they want me, it will be on my terms and told them I take TRIPS. Poor Oliver, I hope you can get to the bottom of his problems. Loretta, sorry that was a purple petunia. Looks rather blue in the photo. What a nice surprise that repair bill was. Glad it is all fixed. Boy I wish I had your talent. Those quilts are beautiful! Shawnee, yes I did work today then visit oldest son and the grand brats. Can't wait to see the new orchid. S!uty, eh? ![]() Painting?? Yikes but a necessary evil. Gotta get my butt going and do the last bedroom. We should have stained the deck but because of the rain, we didn't. Missoula is in a "ring of fire" right now and Glacier is closed again. God I hope some rain comes for them. I really want to go. I sure want to see my younger brother and the two cousins. Not looking forward to the three day drive with Gerard in the car though. LOL maybe some duct tape and a nice cozy spot in the trunk will solve the problem. Off to check around and catch up. |

Hey Y'all
Montana, I just looked at the long range forcast for Missoula... ...looks hot and maybe a chance for a T-storm on Friday...but otherwize, dry...Sure hope all your people there stay safe.Hope Gerard doesn't read bout your plans for the duct tape ![]() LOL..Bob does a running commentary on trips...maybe I need some of that tape too ![]() Loretta...hahaa...well, your curiosity was aroused, but trust me, it was an innocent non-event. ![]() I've been doing a Search, and haven't found the exact type of Oncidium that Dolly is....my camera doesn't do clear close-ups, so a full frontal shot will have to suffice. Thankfully, the camera /lighting toned down her brassy-blonde color...what was I thinking, to bring this painted lady home ??? ![]() (a close/possible match) http://www.paramountorchids.com/jpg/...0VQ%20copy.JPG Any guesses, Ginny? ...........here's Dolly! ![]() ShawneeLast edited by shawneesioux : 08-13-2003 at 10:42 PM. |

Shawnee, that orchid IS just beautiful!! I went looking and couldn't find a good pic of it. Not sure about the one you think it is. Where is Ginny when we need her. Night owl too!! I had questions too. Where did you find this one Shawnee? Makes me want to get more. It may be months before my other little ones bloom. Just the big Phal was blooming when I got it and it was at the end of it's blooming. Good luck. Have you ever grown one before?
Linda, wow, are you sure you want to go? It doesn't look good does it? My sister lives in Boise and that looks awful too. Best call her and find out. J Last edited by Jewels60 : 08-13-2003 at 11:55 PM. |

Oh, Montana...that Fire Map is heart-wrenching
....not only for all the people, but the wildlife too. Saw on the news that the Yellowstone roads are opening and closing as needed.Julie, hope your Sis and family are not in harm's way re those fires. The OrKid came from Safeway, there's a floral section near the Produce. Had only 3 yellows and 2 Orange ones...NO whites, which I really wanted...but this was pure Impulse buying. Orchid novice here, but Ginny can work her magic long distance for me. ![]() Up late, cause we have a couple coons in the backyard that Pup is interested in. Hope she's ready to call it a night now.... or get her own doorman. Shawnee |
