Well, NINE was a triumph. The production and singing were well up to the BRILLIANT SCORE and oh so clever lyrics.
Antonio Banderas held is own with a STRONG voice, and delightfully quirky acting....like a little kid lots of the time: "As my body's nearing forty and my mind is nearing .. TEN!"
The women weren't quite so strong with Chita Rivera stealing the show with camp. The 70 year old managed to get her perfectly straight leg up onto Banderas' shoulder during a tango...no small feat even if he is a tiny guy!

All in all, though quite a show it wasn't so good as the 1982 production with Raul Julaia (quite a different Guido), Karen Akers and Lilliane Monteveccio and Anita Morris. I know the recording ny heart.

Prices are sky high...we paid $31 for standing room. THe rest of the orchestra seats were $100 even. Sold out completely.

Julie,
Check STAPLES ad....FREE NORTON INTERNET SECURITY 2003. That pays for the year of updates. I'm buying mine as soon as I shower...I hope the sale begins today and not tomorroe. Oh we;;, it's in the back yard (5 minutes walk)....Nice orchids, how many did you buy!

Ginny,
Thanks for the tip....but why save a single node? Don't I want a new stem from the crown of the plant?

Lord,
Bob is doing another standing room tonight: Kirov Opera (at the Met this month) doing Tchaikovsky's EUGENE ONEGIN....God bless his feet being able to stand ANOTHER 4 hours. Last night did it for me....between the sore feet and the dodgy back I'm SITTING, or STAYING HOME.

Linda,
Some nice weather for a change. After two hot days we should have a VERY nice mild week next.

Susan,
So profiteroles are British as well....live and loin (said the piggy on his way to the bucher!)

Loretta,
Very little chocolate in the profiteroles (How nice you remembered my migraine trigger) Just enough to make it PERFECT!

Pam,
Where are you.

Have a nice weekend everyone

edit: 2 hours later. Got the Norton Internet Security Package: $69.99- $20 Instant Rebate- $20 Mail-In Rebate - $30 Ugrade Rebate. Total Cost $0.00

Morning,

Roger, I think I just bought my update for $14.95 (I think) this last winter so I'm not due yet. If I buy it now, it's only good for a year from purchase, right? I can't believe all the rebates. Makes one think there is some hidden cost somewhere. I assume you bought it though. I wish I could buy it now but not use it until I'm due.

The production sounds wonderful and glad you enjoyed it. Too bad about having to stand though. That would do me in. Back and all.

I bought one orchid in bloom. Very common I think. Phalaenopsis. Looks just like the one on the front of the Ortho Orchid book. Got some small ones, 3 total for cheap, $2.00 apiece. One that is about 9 inches tall called a Epidendrum. Showed the pic on yesterdays thread. 2 of the smaller ones are Phalaenopsis, white in color. The other small one is Manoa Ruby. The pic is also on Friday's thread. I'm so excited about them. Sure hope I have luck with them. Know nothing about them though but reading up on them. Is Phonecia the real name of yours?

Going to farmers market and then dogsitting another Bichon this afternoon. Should keep me hopping. Later, Julie

Roger glad you enjoyed NINE. You sure have written us a nice mini review of it. How crowded is that place with people standing all over? That would make me nervous.
I have never done an update for virus on my pc. I really have had only one problem in my 7 or 8 yrs pc ing and was able to remove it by using my micro trend web site. They just want you to buy that stuff. Will you be leaving soon for the real vacation?

Julie I had an orchid a while back and after it bloomed out and I repotted it it did not do anymore for me. Hope you have better skills at it. The gal I gave it to says it is not growing but is not any different either. Just at a standstill. I cannot get African violets to bloom either. My hardy green houseplants are doing fine though.

I tried making that Nuker custard from the recipe you posted Shawnee but it sure did not set and was runny. After I looked at my other recipe for custard I noticed a big variance in the amount of eggs and cream. I think it needed more eggs. My 3 egg, 1/3 cup cream and 1/2 cup sugar worked find and took me about 4 min on 70% power. I like experimenting though. The recipe on the web site called for 1 3/4 cup (milk) cream to 3 eggs. I had to pitch it. I am anxious now to try the flaxseed muffins in the micro and get to a kitchen store and see what I can find.
Hope the pup is well. Glad you are enjoying the Curves workouts.

Linda I sure hope the fires will be done for by the time you are ready to head that way. LOL on Gerard cooking the burgers. I though he did a lot of cooking for the moms. Like the roasts etc.
The only thing I usually grill out is rib eyes. I do not have success with ribs. They usually end up burning. I just find it more convient to cook in the house.

Susan LOL on the "tea". I don't even drink "tea" My sister went to a tea recently and they did not even serve tea, just coffee. One of the guests was complaining about that. I do have a beatiful antique tea set that was my mothers wedding present from the gals she worked with. It has sort of square plates and cups, quite different and dainty.

Going to a wedding this afternoon with an outside reception. Not sure if they will be serving food or just cake? Willl eat something before we go and a salad when we get home if I need it. The weather promises to be nice.

Later, Loretta

Poping in quick between cleaning, running over to feed son's cat and picking up a few more things at the grocery store.

Loretta, Gerard goes in spirts with cooking. LOL That kidney stone threw him for a loop.

You are very fortunate to have had only one problem with your computer in all those years.
My co worker had many, many viruses in hers after only two years. She didn't do updates either. Funny thing her computer guy installed AVG free for her and told her to check for free updates monthly.

Those fires have me extremely worried. I will check the web cams at Glacier later. Last night the air was so thick with smoke. Fire jumped the Going to the Sun Road too and they are evacuating the town of West Glacier, among others.

Julie, have fun at the farmer's market. I love those. Dog sitting again, eh? Have fun.
Give me a kick in the butt will you? I really NEED to try an orchid.
I was across the road from Loew's yesterday and thought about it but traffic was bad so I just came on home.

Roger, how on earth do you find such good bargins? I would have gone to Norton at one point if I had known. It was installed in this but gave me some conflict with my OE.

You had to STAND for the entire show? OMG!! It sounds like it was wonderful though so you probably didn't mind a bit.

It's muggy and overcast here and may rain tomorrow. I hope so because it's a pain in the butt to water my son's garden and all of their flowers.

Shawnee, I am going to try that custard later tonight but I'll increase the eggs too. Is the texture about the same as oven baked.

Pam, come on kiddo, check in.

Susan, where are you today?

Ginny, are you enjoying a good weekend in the gh and yard?

More later.

Hi again,

Loretta,
Standing Room is always against the back of the last row of the orchestra...about 25 standees /performance one deep. It's sold on whatever days are SOLD OUT....for NINE, all of them!

Julie,
Phonoecia is my name for her....she's really Phalaenopsis kmartia var. Cheapskate On'Saleii! ($10)
On the NORTON: You don't need to load it til year's end. Open the Anti-Virus and check "Subscription Service" on the front page - it will give your date of expiration (mine isn't til November 8th....I'll load the new one on the SEVENTH!

Hi Y'all

Just a quickie again...in from yard work for a minute...

Loretta, sorry to hear the custard thingy was a NO-setter! Yup, we have to experiment a lot...I've never had a recipe from the Web that I didn't change.

Montana, the only recipe I can personally vouch for is Jacki's revised Pumpkin Custard that I posted yesterday.

later

Need help with toms. I'm getting leaf curl!! ^%$#&^ What prevents this disease? Anybody know. My neighbor has it too and she usually grows beautiful toms. I just want to know for next year. Had some toms rot. I'm sooo mad.

Linda, consider this a kick in the bu!!, now go buy that orchid. The heck with traffic. Just do it.

Ok, here comes doggies mom and dad. Doggie sitting coming to a close. Wasn't too bad. Julie

OUCH Julie, OK, OK. maybe Monday. LOL

Good to hear from you Pam. Catch your breath girl.

Shawnee, I may try that pumpkin custard first. I think more eggs in Loretta's may be the key.

OY... Look at this web cam... You may not be able to see anything till the morning though. They are in the Mt. time zone.

Hey gang,

Spent part of the day at Horsetrainer's chatting and pruning a couple shrubs. Then home for puppy baths (they were just thrilled) and some computer time. Have to get on messenger with DSisIL shortly.

Zip, LOL on Phonecias name! I've had a few different varieties of inapotitcome nonamea to show up here.

Julie, the epidendrum will need to be moist but not wet, like a phalaenopsis. It will probably need a little brighter light, so a bright window may be the best spot, just watch it so it doesn't show signs of sunburn. The dendrobium likes to dry out a little between waterings and will like the same light as the epidendrum. You've got a great start!

Shawnee, now we need to get you and Linda an orchid. Keep watching those sales tables! Did you and Pup get to play outside today?

Linda, consider your butt kicked into the orchidmania

Susan, how's things up there for y'all?

Loretta, how was the wedding? Hope y'all had a good time and they had 'real' food for ya!

Pam, glad to see you check in. We do worry, y'know!

Off to meet SIL...

Oh Linda, I didn't really mean it. But since I'm beginning, you might as well get in on all the wonderfull info Ginny has been offering. That way she won't have to repeat it. LOL

Shawnee, no tips on the leaf curl and how to prevent it next year??????

Ginny, thank you for all your help. I have been doing so many searches in the past few days, my eyes are crossed.

Pam, it's good to hear from you. You and Mary (golden years) have a great time together in Vegas. You'll love her, so soft spoken and very interesting to talk to.
Thats a lot of company for a loooong time. I'd be a wreck!!! Maybe you are too. LOL

Hi

ZIP, if Bob has legs strong enough for all that standing, he must be in as great a shape as Chita Rivera

Was actually gonna use the oven tonight, while on Preheat the damned bottom element went out..actually burned out with a little flame going. Had to put Baking Soda on it, and threw the Range Switch/breaker just in case...Thank goodness the Nuker works! Bob wants to get a new stove...this one is only 6 years old, so I'll balk at that.

Susan, I was thinking of you today as I was trimming the English roses. They don't like this heat, delicate things they are.

Goddess, did ya do all three Furbabies? Just doing one Pup kills my back. Glad ya got in some good visiting time with Horsetrainer.
It was only 80° today, so Pup and I spent most of it outside. She'd rather drink from a hose than a bowl

Tink, have fun with your Family, and hope you'll still have time to make it to Curves. Sure hope its helping our bones!
