Hi everybody,
Loretta, Friend had to work last night so we cancelled our dinner at Gene's last night. Maybe next week. Anyhow a profiterole is a delicious, almost hollow, round puffed pastry maybe 4 inch diameter that is filled with a mixture of home made ice cream and whipped cream and chocolate fudge or so it tastes. You back yard look wonderful for lollygagging in. Well, Banderas tonight in NINE. I'm psyched. Just a cheap Pernil, black beans and amarillo rice at a cheap but good Cubano restaurant (EL DEPORTIVO...(for REAL, ROFL) right in the theater district. from GUIDO'S SONG "I would like to be here, I would like to be there. I would like to be everywhere at once, I know it's a contradiction in terms, I would like the Universe to get down on it's knees And say, Guido, whatever you please, Even if it's impossible, We'll ARRANGE IT, So ARRANGE IT, That's all that I ask" Susan, I think I had West Nile 2 years ago. I got bitten badly one day. After a couple days I started getting headachy and listless and slept for about 18 hours a day for almost a week...I just couldn't wake myself up. For the 6 awake hours I was in a dull fog. Then just as quickly it passed. Is there a test for antibodies; in fact, is its auto-immunizing. For my trouble at least I'd like to know I can walk bravely mid the buzzing (and suffer no more than a bodyful of ooxing, infected, suppurating welts for 2 weeks (because that's what happens.) I suffer more from a mosquito bite than a wasp sting! Later, gaters! edit: Well, Phonecia is FINALLY calling it quits after 10 weeks of 10 gorgeous HUGE blooms- among the nices phal shows I've ever seen (INCLUDING the florists). Ginny, Finally this time there don't seem to be any buds on the main stem (after rebudding over and over again since last summer). Should I cut the stem back to the leaves and let her rest unfed and slightly dryer? I'd hate to forcea bud (though I'm sure she'd cooperate). I don;t want to drive her to exhaustion. She's got nice deep green hearty leaf growth (11 strapping leaves). Roger

Good morning Roger and everyone.
There isn't a cloud in the sky this beautiful morning. Wow!! Maybe things will dry out a bit. Deck furniture and some other things really need some serious attention. Son's cat was nice to me last night when I went to feed her. Let's hope she stays that way and doesn't bit the hand that is feeding her till Monday. Roger, enjoy dinner and Nine tonight. LMAO at the name of that Cuban place. Sheesh, at least they have a sense of humor. Have a profiterole for me next week. I can almost taste it. It seems I read someplace that there is a test to determine if one has had West Nile. It would be nice if we all had a mild case and are immune. Shawnee, thanks for those nuker recipe sites. Wow!! Boy that will come in very handy. Been on a serious quest for nuker cook ware but have been unsuccessful so far. I may take a trip to Owego and haunt their second hand and antique shops. I seriously hope your relatives are safe from those fires. Please keep us posted. We are keeping a close eye on those huge forest fires in Montana. They evacuated part of Glacier park and ther is heavy smoke all over the area. I'm off and running but will return later. Waving hi to Loretta, Ginny, Susan, Julie and Pam |

Good morning my dear friends,
Shawnee, thanks a ton for the nuker recipes. I love pumpkin and will definately try that one. The flax ones I will try when I eat the last batch up. They all look good. You're a doll. Roger, That profiterole sounds sooooooo yummy. My mouth is watering. Ice cream is my downfall. I love it and haven't had any since I started this woe. I think for my birthday I will have some as a treat. One small little bowl. Enjoy that funny little cuban restaurant. Sounds like fun and very interesting. Too bad about last nights dinner date though. Is Phonicia the real name of that orchid Roger? I am just getting into them so don't know. 10 whole weeks!!! Isn't that great? It was so beautiful. Was it a a Phalaenopsis? What kind of fertilizer do YOU use? I can't find the right kind around here. Still need to check Home Depot though. Linda, glad you have some sunshine for a change. We are going for 78 today, PERFECT!!!! Beter enjoy it here though, by Monday it'll be 92 here. Poor Shawnee will be getting lots hotter than us. Hyey, that cat better not bite you!! Or out the door for it. LOL Next time your son will have to find someone else to take care of it. Sure hope the wildfires won't keep you home from your vacation. Have little Madison here today. Lively little one. she is. Will be 4 the end of Sept. Her mom is the one expecting a baby boy any minute. Going to be a real shock for her. Best be off, will check back later, Julie

Hi to all of you mag maintainers
Shawnee thanks for that Nuker Flax Muffin recipe. I think I can nuke them in the round pan and have muffin wedges. I am anxious to give them a try. I have a feezer full of things I need to eat up though ie, flax blueberry muffins, blueberry bars, Baklava muffins, pumpkin pie. Lets have a party. I am either going to have to start eating more or make a bunch of new friends. I keep giving this one gal baked goods. She will be saying O NO HERE WE GO AGAIN. SO many good things to eat. I need to try that custard recipe also. I have been eating that for breakfast occasionally. Roger stay away from that profiterole. That chocolate will not work. Maybe you could take some rx with it though to ward off that migraine or scoop the chocolate off of it. Too bad you missed the dinner. Cuban sounds like HOT food to me. Julie enjoy Madison. 4 yrs old she can be a handful. She is about the same age as my DGD Beth. She was 5 in Dec and quite active, very active. Her little brother is mild by comparison. Will they induce DDIL if she does not deliver soon? Poor gal. My next DGB is due in Jan. My DIL is big already and complaining about the discomfort. Do you frequently eat the same foods? I guess so with 20 flax muffins. LOL They are good though. Gee Linda too bad that gal injured her arm. I know what you mean about that paper work from and incident report. Tons of it. Glad the trip was enjoyable as could be. That cat has got a nerve trying to give you trouble. It's like that birds dive bombing my car after I fed them all winter. My friend and I made a date for shopping next week at a kitchen ware store. I am going to hunt for nuker pans too or muffin top pans. Did you try ebay? They have lots of hard to find stuff. Sure hope the fires won't keep you from vacationing. Ginny we sure have been having some great cool weather. I think the map is mixed up. We have Shawnees probably and she has ours. It is suppose to warm back up this weekend. 90s. No more rain and I have been having to water. Hi Susan seems like that class with the gals went in a hurry. How was the success rate? Lots of gals quite smoking when pregnant but go back at it after they deliver. I think once I was quit for a while I would not go back. Wish you could take some pictures around your place for us to see. How about those kids, get them over there with the camera. Haven't seen your picture either for a while. HI to Pam enjoying the summer and grand kids. Later Loretta Going to pic toms.

Hi Y'all
Just a quickie for now, gonna go to Curves soon. I had sent that Pumpkin Custard to Jacki...got a call this AM to come try her LC version... ..she didn't have to ask twice![]() It was cooler this morning, so she made it in the regular oven..individual servings...OH, YUM! Pumpkin Custard Here's her recipe revisions: 6 eggs 1 (15-ounce) can pumpkin 1/4 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves 1 TBLS Gluten, optional..to prevent a "wet" bottom 1 C Davinci 1 C water 1 C Cream, these 3 "wets" all heated until very hot Ground nutmeg or cinnamon for garnish, optional * The amount of eggs used can vary according to your needs. When I make the custard for dessert, I usually use 4 eggs. When making for breakfast, I increase the recipe to 6 eggs. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Adjust oven rack to center position. Lightly butter (or use non-fat vegetable spray) eight (6-ounce) custard cups and set them into a large baking dish. If cooking custards in a metal pan, cover the bottom of the pan with a layer of newspaper to ensure an even temperature on the bottom. In a large bowl, beat eggs slightly; add sugar, pumpkin, salt, cinnamon, ginger, and cloves ( and optional Gluten) and beat until combined. Mix in hot milk until blended. Pour egg mixture into prepared custard cups. Sprinkle with nutmeg or cinnamon. Bring the water for the water bath to a light simmer on top of the stove; carefully pour hot water into the baking pan to come half-way cup the sides of the custard cups. NOTE: The most common mistake people make in baking a custard is not putting enough water in the hot-water bath. The water should come up to the level of the custard inside the cups. You must protect your custard from the heat. Carefully pour hot water into the baking pan to come halfway cup the sides of the custard cups. Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until set around the edges but still loose in the center. The cooking time will depend largely on the size of the custard cup you are using, but begin checking at 20 minutes and check back regularly. When the center of the custard is just set, it will jiggle a little when shaken, that's when you can remove it from the oven. Remove from oven and immediately remove cups from water bath; cool on wire rack until room temperature. Cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate at least 2 hours or up to a week. Makes 8 servings (depending on size of custard cups). -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- catch up with Y'all later....have a FINE day! Ginny, this maybe it but will continue to look. So many orchids and none that i've seen have had specific names. Got a good site that shows a good variety? This may be it.
Epidendrum pseudepidendrum???? edited it to say, I found it I think. ![]() 2 other names came out of my earches, Cinnabarinum or Hokulea So how do you know which one it is. The last two is what the plant looks like minus flowers but that is the kind of blossum it shows. Last edited by Jewels60 : 07-25-2003 at 06:38 PM. |

Hi Guys!
Here at last. Had a great day off today! Went to the Arboretum Park with DD and the two dogs! It was wonderful, no reading, just taking in the sights and sunshine! Roger, I am sure the bloodwork would reveal the WNV but not sure about the immunity. I'll check at work next week for you! I suspect no immunity though! We used to eat profiterioles all the time back in England, they filled the choux pastry with fresh-cream or custard and topped the upper crust with chocolate icing, wonderful with a hot cuppa tea! Julie, Loved your pics! Wonderful colour! Enjoy Madison, she sounds adorable! Surprise Baby Brother taking his time eh?Shawnee, Good for YOU off to Curves agin! Thank YOU so much for another recipe to try. I keep printing them, a bit slow to get cooking in these temps. Ginny, Hi as you run through agin! Busy gal.....I guess you have a life? Loretta, With all those assorted goodies, you could have an English High Tea! Little breadless sandwiches on the porch served on dollies of course and the "good" china, with the shiniest of silver tea-spoons, and only the whitest tablecloth. Hot tea with cream and those assorted goodies sliced up! Ya could squeeze in the old strawberries and cream too! LOL! I wanna come down for Tea! This last group has been Childbirth Preparation hence all the reading and reviewing! No Tobacco Cessation till September!Linda, ouch! Watch out for those baby tigers! Yep, talk about biting the hand that feeds ya! Hope all is drying out in your "neck of the woods." We are supposed to get scattered showers Saturday and Sunday. Hope those Fires die down soon!I'll check later if time permits! ![]() |

All of you are probably getting pretty sick of my orchids I've just bought but hang tough....just one more small one I bought today at Home Depot.
This one is called Manoa RubyxJaquelyn Thomas 'D192. It is a Dendrobium. Susan, these are not my pics but from the internet during my many searches today. I only have one blooming and the others I wanted to find out what they look like. Sounds so nice to go with DD and have all these nice quiet places to spend the day at. I sure envy you both...a DD you are friends with and the time spent together. |

one last check in.
Hope Roger had a good time seeing NINE. I can't wait for his review. Loretta, yes there are some on Ebay, but I just can't be bothered trying to figure out how to do that bidding stuff and won't use paypal. Shawnee, Thanks for the pumpkin recipe. I might just try that tomorrow. Susan, the cat rubs against me when I fix her food but when I talk to her, she hisses at me. Darn cat, I just can't win.Did I see a flash??? I think it may have been Ginny. Slow down girl. Julie, ok you just shamed me into going to Home Depot and Lowes looking at those orchids. I don't know if I want to get one till we return from our trip though. Damned fires!!! They have evacuated most of Glacier Park and several little communities around there. Fire jumped across the Going to the sun road near the tunnel too. Maybe it will be safe to go there but the are saying the fires won't be out till the first snow. I NEED to get to bed. |
