Tuesday, July 22

Storm passed through at midnight. Furious rain for 15 minutes and several lightnings and thunderclaps and that was it. Clear this mmorning but another wave predicted.

I got a splitting headache an hour after reading the mail requiring Bob's presence on August 4. Turned in early and woke with the same head. Took 1000 mg. acetamenophen on awakening (first line defense)...if it continues to develop to a full-blown vascular headache, I'll take an ergotamine....but I DREAD them-my whole day is ruined by a mescaline-type spaciness (all the weirdness with none of the pleasant feelings).

I guess I have two choices: to drive him back to NYC and spend the night at home and head back to Boston the next day. Or to drive him to Boston (1 hour) and bus him in...(God knows WHERE the station is). Yeah bus RT is $50, train is 4 TIMES that! That Amtrak line is VERY pricey. Bob is a bad driver and we haven't had a car for 4 years so I assume he's even worse...so that option is closed!

Phonecia still in radiant bloom ...2 1/2 months and counting. I am ABSOLUTELY blown away. I've had PLASTIC flowers that didn't do so well! I'm going to buy her a sister as soon as we get back.

Everybody, be well.

Roger

Mornin' *yawn* y'all,

T-storms yesterday for us too. Gotta check the weather to see if maybe I can give the old legs a rest and wear bluejeans. Sure cooled it off nice last night

Zip, that just sucks having your vacation broke up like that. Hope you can figure out a relatively easy solution, or better yet hope they call it off! Phonecia would love a friend...

Julie, good deal on the orchids! Now we need pictures so we can tell you about what you got! A great book to start with is Ortho's All About Orchids, a wonderful book geared towards beginners that gives advice and tips in plain English. It's one of the first orchid books we got, and still use it periodically. If you have any questions, just let me know and I'll help you all I can.

Shawnee, have you cooled off any yet? Hope you get some rain soon. Looks like we're the lone smokers in the bunch here...BTW, how much are cigarettes in your area? I smoke an off brand that runs around $12 for a carton.

Linda, if you think you could train my DH to take shoes off, c'mon down! LOL How are your plans for the trip coming?

Loretta, did you get the storms yesterday too? The nasty stuff went north of us. One of the regular drivers saw tornados in his mirrors as he was heading towards us glad he didn't let them follow him!

Susan, I hear you on the rolling up the sidewalks in October. That's how it was in MN. I remember many times having snow for Halloween and having to get a costume that went over a winter jacket. Down here it's still warm, and I like that!

Pam, glad to see ya! We miss you when you're gone, but understand what it's like to be so busy. Have fun with the DGbrats, they will grow up quick!

I have to go in to work an hour early today and tomorrow. One guy on days is gone till Thurs, and our supervisor will be out tomorrow too. Ugh. Will have to hit the ground running when I get there.

Off to lurk,

HI to all

Zip how long of a trip is that to take Bob back and forth and spend the night at home. You could check the mail and house and make sure the plants are ok. Inconvient no matter how you go about it. That headache was not chocolate induced? right?
Hope it is gone by now. How nice that Phonecia will get a sister. She will love one.

Ginny we had storm warnings but no real bad storms or signicicant rain fall. We did get a little sprinkle yesterday evening and today our temps are in the 80s with very low humidity. It will be nice to work in cooler temps for you. It sure gets me ready to do some work instead of feeling drug out with the high humidity.

Julie did you scare that company away? I do really enjoy being home alone especially after a wad of company leaves. I am having a period of readjustment though. Today I am cleaning out the fridge of some of those carb laden foods and tossing them. I sure don't feel much like cooking for DH and myself though. Out of menu ideas too.

Shawnee how goes it there in Wa. I checked out your weather reports. I like that accurate weather page and checked out ours too. Our lawn is looking sort of brown and my plants are looking stressed. Maybe today will refresh them with the cooler temps.

Linda now how do you make the flax meal bread? I saw that today on your menu post on the Golden BB. I like heading over to ww on a Sunday morning early when most of these southern baptists are at church. Wm is about empty. Gee our poor priest was re ended the other day and the other driver just left the scene. Good thing he had some witnesses and he was not injured. He thinks his car will be totaled. He had presence of mind enough to get the license of the driver as they drove off.

Susan how was that pork roast? I prefer salt, pepper and garlic on mine and that is about it for me. WE had a boneless pork loin when our company was here and it was delicious. It even had its own pop up timer in it. I baked it in the oven.

Hi to Pam busy enjoying the grand kids and summer in beautiful Lake Tahoe.

Later, Loretta

Loretta,

I COULD say headache was caused by an OD on nuts (which I did) but I know it was caused by a relatively insoluble logistical problem with the vacation. We've got it all settled this morning: I'll put him on a local bus in the next town>>into Boston>>GREYHOUND to NYC and he'll overnight at the apartment, tend plants get mail, pick up what we forgot and he'll reverse the trip back...I'll pick him up 3 miles away...easy enough for me.

The round trip drive for me to take him into NYC is 10 HOURS! AND I HATE to drive! That doesn't sound fun! A total of 20 hours behind the wheel for a vacation is NO vacation at all....10 is QUITE enough.

What miserable weather- rain-clear-rain-clear-rain! All within a background of 85° and 100% humidity...hard to breathe!
Lightning starting up again...best shut down the 'puter.

TORRENTIAL RAIN!

OHHHH, What was that freebie anti virus you are all so fond of...my neighbor would like it (too cheap to do Norton)

Roger, sure hope that headache went away. Have suffered with mild migranes all my life and don't wish them on anybody. Sure sounds like a pain trying to get Bob back to work.Sounds like you had horrible weather. Don't suppose that contributed to that headache. Seems I read that somewhere. Weather changes can cause one.

Loretta, yeah, I'd be real interested in the flax bread also Linda.
Clean out that fridge good. I do the same thing. No I didn't scare the company away. They had been on a cruise to Alaska and before that traveling and the gal just was exhausted so caught a plane home.

No baby yet. Boy is she getting big and swollen. Feel so sorry for her especially with this 85-90 temps.

Relaxing this morning. had 6 yo DGD for about 1.5 hours. Now have to run and get that lab work to find out if I have a imbalance somewhere thats causing all my leg and foot cramps. Then off to Toys R us to bet a swing for the new baby. My DH is going to get me a new computer chair for my upcoming Birthday. So I'm going to start looking. Later....Julie

Oh Zip 10 hours that is tooo long of a drive. Glad you got that figured out. Here is the free virus check site.http://housecall.trendmicro.com/hous...start_corp.asp Probably not the nuts that caused the HA.

It takes a while for it to download and then all you do is check the box (es) that apply. It will automatically remove those viruses it finds that it can remove.

Julie glad you did not scare them away. I want to think about making that bread on my grill top instead of as a loaf of bread or order up some muffin top pans. Still debating on that.

Hi gang,

Pain in the azz work today. The group I worked with were a bunch of really bad guys, cop and wife killer, child molester, and just a few other rotten SOB's. I know what I would like to do to a few..Shawnee's indian justice.... but don't really want to spend the rest of my life in jail. Whew!! that felt good.

Roger, hope the headache is gone. That plan sounds great!! Put him on the bus and go back and relax till he gets back. Greyhound is easy, quick and stress free.

Here are a bunch of free downloads our computer guy recommended, as did a few others. Anti virus is the last on the list here. Go to products and you will find the free one. It's free to PC users and Schools.

you may have to look around for the free downloads but they are there.

http://www.lavasoft.de/support/download/

Free firewall..Really Good.

Free and excellent popup stopper..FANTASTIC! The best thing ever.

Spyblocker

Webwasher

Free Anti Virus..better than Norton and McAfee..catches things that both of the others miss

Make sure any other anti virus program is un installed before down loading this and check for free updates monthly. It's great!!

Gee Ginny, it sounds like your job situation is as bad and busy as mine. It's awful to have to "hit the ground running".
LOL I'll train him for ya. Should take about three days.
Oh you and Shawnee aren't the only ones. They are 50 bucks a carton here. My internet supplier stopped shipping to NY for 20 bucks because of a new NYS law! Now I order from a NYS reservation for 30 till this thing gets through court.

Julie, it will be interesting to hear what your lab results are. Post them, OK?

No baby yet? Oh that poor girl! My friend's daughter had her 1st Sunday and was all to happy to push that kid out. She was really focused and worked really hard.

Hope you had fun with the 6 year old. They are fun but a lot of work at that age.

Loretta and Julie, I used the cinnamon flax muffin recipe and left out the sweetener, cinnamon, splenda and added in garlic and cheese...baked it in an 8 x 8, cut it into 12 squares, sliced them in half and coated with butter and garlic salt then broiled till lightly brown. Boy they were good.

Boy I hope they catch that driver. The NERVE! Do you have stiff fines for that sort of thing there?

Susan, how did your pork come out? I'm like Loretta and love garlic, salt and pepper and especially, unsweetened applesauce on mine before I cook it.

Pam, Good to hear from you. Now stop and take a breather. Geez you are making me tired.

Gosh Shawnee, I sure hope it cooled off a bit or will soon.
Storm was really nasty here. 12,000 without power in the area and during the early am we had more go through. They woke me up even over the drone of the air conditioner.
I'm pooped but knowing me, won't get to bed early.

That't the free download for the anti virus program Roger. Our computer guy highly recommends it and it's used by our school systems here in Binghamton.

If she loads Zone Alarm, she will get a flag every time she visits a site. All she has to do is check "allow" and "don't show me this again". When she has all of her favorite sites covered, she is good to go. It will only warn her if a hacker or some site is trying to access her computer and will ask if she wants to allow it.

The pop up stopper is really the greatest too. Put that in for her. She will see a little green thingy on the left of the screen. When it turns red, it means that it stopped a pop up.

The others are good too so check them out.

Hi Magnificient ONes!

Just getting here today! Its been another sunny yet cloudy day today. Did some reading agin this morning. Went to the Garden Centre with DD, far too much that we wanted to buy. We will go back with two cars. She has steps coming down and around towards her pool and she wants to place pots on every other two steps. They had some lovely red impatiens for $10.00 a pot, large and full. She needs at least 10 and then other stuff. I wanted to get some perennials delphinieums etc.. The pool should be ready for the first week of August.

Shawnnee, The Pork turned out sorta okay. Not like Pammy JOes pic. The slow cooker sure had it falling of the bone. The moist cooking made the sauce runny. I still enjoyed the flavours, DH was not impressed at all. I served it with a large helping of steaming hot cabbage and butter. He loved that. Still have lots of pork leftovers for lunches an added bonus. Thanks for posting the recipe. I love a change!

Roger, glad you figured out the bus route to save you the drive.
Hope the Headache has gone. DH has had one lingering the last few days, I think his is allergies, sinus-related. Could yours be a pollen related one? Sounds more like "stress"- induced, around the dilemma of the trip back to NJ for Bob!

Linda, Yikes, I did not realise that you worked in Forensic Mental Health, or is it Correctional? Ya brave gal!

Loretta, I guess you can breathe a sigh of relief now!

Ginny, that sucks, having to go in early, hope ya getting paid overtime for that?

Julie, dont get mixed up and get your computer chair from Toys R Us! The swing sounds a wonderful idea for the new baby!

Pam, do slow down, ya makin us all feel we are movin in
slow- motion!

Julie, I found the recipe for the Chocolate Cheese Balls that Shawnee posted.
http://www.lamsonadventures.com/recipes/truffle.htm
She said to cut the carbs a bit use Davinci.

Susan, At least your dd will get to enjoy a month or so in that pool this year. Take some pictures will ya?

Yes part of our Facility is a forensic unit. Bad, nasty people. Sometimes it does feel like corrections and maybe some should be in jail.

Linda,

Thank you ever so much for all the links you sent. I'll copy and paste the whole thing over to her and let her pick and choose.

Heck since I missed the freebie on the Norton Security 2003, if they don't offer the big rebate again before I run out of UPDATES in November, I may well go the freebie route myself....but I DO like the Norton package.

You guys are NOT going to BELIEVE the next wrinkle: We looked through our credit cards to choose one for the car rental ( and the Collision Damage Coverage) About 5 of the cards have it BUT ALL ARE LIMITED TO 15 DAYS....our vacation is 18...I MUST have broken a mirror I forgot about. I don't know WHAT to do now!.....sheeeesh Ralphie! Somebody is sticking pins in my voodoo doll.

Roger, glad to help. You may need to help her through it though.

I'm very satisfied with all of these. They work very well and I trust that computer guy. Trust me, you will not be sorry if you go that route. That anti virus thing is great! So are the pop up stoppers and firewall as well as the spy catcher. I was totally amazed at what they caught.

As for the auto ins. How much would it cost to purchase it through the rental agency? I know I was covered by my own when we rented the car in Montana but what they tried to sell wasn't that expensive.

Linda, thanks for the websites of all the free downloads. I already have Norton and like Roger, I really like it. Often thought about the firewall one but don't really have anything on this computer to steal. All personal info on my old computer.
Thanks too for the chococheese balls. have you made them yet? Thanks to Shawnee too. LOL

Susan I managed to buy the right thing at Toys R Us. It was a take and go low swing. She wanted one so know she'll like it. Just looked at chairs. Want to shop a little more before I buy or excuse me...my DH buys it for my B.D. LOL

Zip, are sure you're suppose to go on this vacation?? I know you need and deserve it but so far, things aren't going to good.

Ginny, I did buy the Ortho Orchid book today. Lots of different fertilizers out there so what do you use? One regular and one for blooms? The smaller 3 I bought just got done blooming so how soon will they bloom again? Once a year? Found a good site last night. Orchidlady.com Have you been into it? Looked pretty good.

Will be back later...julie
