Bouncing Back After Baby: 7/11 - 7/17
I'm on a roll - finally!
I woke up this morning to another 1/2 lb loss, setting another new low for me. I feel like I'm back into ketosis, b/c my appetite is suppressed, and I'm not having any cravings. I'm also not snacking anywhere near as much as I used to. I believe cutting out the whole grains was what did it. I'm still eating nuts, and eating more carbs than induction allows. I never did a strict induction. I'm not exercising right now, but I do plan on getting back into a regular routine soon. I know how important exercise is.Stephanie - I hope you're feeling better soon! I've been battling some terrible allergies this year, and it hasn't been fun. At least I have meds which help. Lisa - I can't believe Michael is already getting his 6th tooth! Wow. Leah is still working on #1. She does do some chewing on things, but she doesn't drool at all. See, I told you the clinginess was only a temporary stage! That's so sweet that Nick spent quality time with Michael. Glad to hear the cake decorating class is going well, and your worship band is launching your singing career. ![]()

Hi Mary-Yay! You go girl, let those lbs roll off
![]() So who says I have energy? ![]() "Denise" is on my lap now and it's hot(sigh) Got off work, worked out and ate a chicken burger,I'm happy with my scale but not my body.I don't think a belly should stick out more than ones breasts(which I no longer have-back to my AA).So I'm doing some upper body strengthening trying to balance my pear shape some what.I know I don't have a right to complain as others are struggling to lose weight. How did the service for your friend go? Hi Lisa-good luck with the solo-I'm sure you'll Wow the crowd ![]() Babies go through lots of clingy stages,I had to pack Cody around shopping yesterday as she was freaking out at the thought of my leaving. The other 2 stayed at the grandfolks and that helped. We're going to a Julyfest parade tomorrow, then I have to work.I may take the kids to the lake on Monday(my day off).Have fun at the eastern LC gathering ![]() Hi Dawn=sorry to hear about your story. My 1st was similar and though the other 2 were better there is always something that goes *wrong*.Congrats on the safe arrival of William,he'll help fade the memory of it all ![]() Hi Steph-hope you are feeling better.Does Roarke ever sleep in his carseat?I found it easy to tote them around the house in one when they are little. Hi to our MIA mom's and y'all have a great weekend

It looks like it'll be a quiet weekend. Guess I'll have to pick up the slack.
No new weight-loss today, but that's okay. I'm still glad to have seen the scale go down this week. At least I know I still can lose, for awhile there I was worried. Lisa - No big weekend plans for us! My DH has to work, so I'll be at home with the kids (as usual). Maybe our highlight of the day will be taking a walk (so exciting! ). I hope your low-carb gathering went well. I wish they had something like that around here. Lee - Hey, if you can get off work and then work out, you have more energy than I do! I haven't seen an AA since I was about 14. I'd be happy to get back to a C, which I hope I will after I wean. Right now I'm working more on losing the weight. Once that's closer to being accomplished, then I will concentrate more on toning up. I'm sure I'll have the same problem as you.The funeral service was very nice, there were lots of people who came to say goodbye. I was distracted by my 3 children, and wish that I could have focused more on what was going on. My DH and I will feel a deep sadness, for quite some time. Death is never an easy thing, as I'm sure you know. Hopefully, we won't have to go to another funeral for a long, long time. Thanks for asking. MaryC |

Hi everyone. I've had a horrible two nights but I am hoping tonight will be much better. Roarke kept waking up at 1 am and not wanting to go back to sleep. He stayed up crying on and off until about 4 am no matter how much I nursed and rocked him. I feel like a walking zombie. I'm not sure what is causing this. The first night I put him to bed earlier than usual which may have messed him up, but last night I didn't. My DH says I should stop giving him "that crap" at bed time. He is referring to formula. LOL He'd prefer that I nurse Roarke exclusively. He was formula fed but his much younger siblings were nursed for 3 years and that's what he remembers. Not gonna happen here! He knows that one year is my limit.
Mary: You're really moving in the right direcetion. Good for you. I'm feeling better, seems that the cold never came through. That's a good thing.Lisa: Have fun at the cook out. I saw the post of the Playground, sounds like it will be a blast. Too bad there is none my way. Although Ottawa is only a few hours away. Lee: He doesn't sleep great in the carseat either. When I bring him in sleeping from the car, he will sleep for another 10 minutes then wake up. He sleeps well in the car, but I think all babies do. He's been doing better with a long daytime nap, it's just night time that's troublesome. I knew I was going to jinx myself when I said last week he's sleeping better. ![]() |

Stephanie - I'm glad your cold never came through! Sorry to hear about your trouble with Roarke at night. I'm having trouble myself at night with Leah. She's not crying or anything like that, it's just that she wants to stay attached to me and BF half the night. I am trying to "hang in there," and remind myself that weaning is only a short time away. I will begin serious weaning at 10 mths (one week from today), and one way or another, she'll be fully weaned at 11 months.
How did it go last night? I hope better. ![]() essence - You didn't say how old your DD is, but I'm guessing she's over a year old. That's old enough for her to know how to drink out of a bottle or a cup. Your leaving on a trip, is one way to force wean her. She will drink eventually, b/c she'll have no choice. I'm wondering how long you'll be gone for. Your DD will need lots of comforting while you're gone, b/c it will be hard the first couple of days. She will adjust though, young children are better at adjusting than adults (thanks to their short memories). My DD prefers me over a bottle or a cup too, but eventually she'll have no choice. I'll probably have to do the force weaning thing too. Have fun on your trip! ![]() |

Taking a break

Good morning everyone! This timke next week I'll finally be home to see my family! It has been way tooooooo long!
Sydney had her 1 year check up Wednesday. She's 19 pounds 15 ounces and 28 inches long. She seems awfully tall but that's okay! Her head was I think 48cm I've still been letting her have 1 bottle right before bed but that's it. We'll probably wean that after our trip. She's walking a lot now so it's very exciting! Allen had his 4th birthday on Friday. He got a new bike and loves it! I think Sydney is excited to have his tricycle now too! Better get back to work! Have a great week!

Hi Gals
...guess the parade is next weekend.I worked all weekend so was quite busy anyway.
Hi Mary-I remember taking my 1st to my Grandma's funeral.I actually didn't want to go but my family insisted.I knew my Gram knew I loved her and that the ceremony is for those left behind. So I went and sure enough my baby screamed through the whole ordeal. So I'm still trying to squeeze in a little workout everyday even if it's 10 min's.Cody is back to being crabby when I get home.I've found I have to let her have a bottle now in order to get some sleep.I let her come in with me too as her shrieking keeps her sisters up.Mercy! She is working on a bunch of teeth(she has the front 8),I feel molars coming up etc... Hi Steph-hope DH can be more understanding about the sleeping habits of babies.I exclusively BF mine and they were up through the night(and sometimes were extremely upset and inconsolable)so it is normal.Good news is that after we got past all the baby stuff they slept better.I can't wait for Cody to cut all her teeth as I haven't slept in months.I think they are a bit fearful at night and found a soft light and music helped.I've even gave them a soothing bath in the wee hours to relax them.Good luck finding what works ![]() Hi Essence-I weaned my 1 year old recently. She was really upset for awhile but did accept my decision. It took about a week before she would take the bottle(which I didn't want to do but did anyway). She uses a cup during the day.Good luck Like your pic BTWHi Kim-things are sounding pretty rosy in your world.Happy BDay Allen and yay Sydney being a big girl.Cody gets about 3 bottles a day.Spoiled I know. This week will fly Hi Lisa-hope the get together went well Hi to the other busy moms that straggle in ![]() |

I forgot to say how old she was, lol
She is 1 she turn one last week, She eats all day as long as some one is eating she there trying to get a bite, she drinks some juice from cup, but plays with it more than drink. I find she may nurse only when she wants to sleep or take nap, sometimes she nurse and don't nap but it seldom . I think she nurse more at night then anything . Also when i brought her to the Doc Friday they said she was sort of small for her age( 18lb 8 oz and 27 inches) she in the 10th percentile, which also lead me to believe she may need more milk, but they also said that about my son who was formula feed so who knows. BUt all in all she is very healthy Lee- i think i will use cup during day and just give bottle at night, but she hates to even look at the bottle, lol Mom i am oping she is wean by the time i come back, but if not i guess i better make sure my milk supply tays up,lol. i wasthinking of takening my sinus pills and dry myself up, since thats all it takes to decrease my milk supply ![]() |

Hi girls!! I don't know if anyone remembers me, but I posted for a while last summer and fall while I was pregnant on the pregnancy thread. I came in here today and read your thread for last week and this week. It is nice to know that I am not alone in my feelings of fatigue! LOL Anyway.. I wondered if you guys would mind if I started posting here with you? You all are so nice and I can totally relate to you.
My baby girl, Shelby Layne, was born November 21, 2002 via c-section. She'll be 8 months old in one week. Wow, I can't believe it! She is the love of my life. I actually started trying to lose weight again very shortly after she was born because I chose not to breastfeed. I'm nearing my goal, but still extremely frustrated with my body. Anyway.. I hope you ladies do not mind if I post here. I'll check back later! |

HI all
It is great to be back "talking" to you all. I never have the time over the weekend, only when I am at work! LOL
I am happy to say I am down a few more-only 4 more to reach my first goal- 7/27, my DS's Dedication(like a Christening) Day and party. I have been trying to get a bit more creative with my eating. I tried to alter a cheese cake recipe, and it is OK. I'm going to try the no-bake one next, and see how it goes. Mary- Congrats! YOu go! Amanda- Congrats on your baby girl! I had my DS in March. I uderstand the body frustration! Lee- that's funny about the belly vs. breasts! I can relate! Essence- I agree with Mary-once you're gone, she will eat. It is probably GOOD that you are going. Stephanie- how old is Roarke? My son Ryan is 4 months, and has been getting up 2x again too! UGH! GOtta get back to work-have a good week all!

Nick is still taking extra time w/ Michael. Its awesome, because he basically takes over for at least an hour or so every night, so *I* get a break! He puts him to bed and everything.I have go though, gotta kiss him goodnight. ![]() lisa |

Hey again mommies! I'm just popping in to say hey since my DH and DD are in bed.
at 8 p.m. I can't believe it. I actually have a few minutes to myself.Hey hedy! Sometimes I feel like I have to go to work to rest! LOL I NEVER get computer time at home. This is a rare occasion! Maybe one day we'll be happy with our bodies.. It's very dissapointing to me because I honestly thought I would look better at 170 lbs. I need to get my butt in gear and excersize to tone up though I guess. Hey Lisa! I saw the pics of your get together on the playground. They are great. You have such a sweet looking family. That little Michael is a baby doll. (Oh and by the way... all of the babies I have seen so far on this thread are absolutely precious!) Wow, I can't imagine taking a cake deco class and trying to low carb! It sounds like great fun though. Let me see if you guys can offer any advice for me. Shelby has slept in her own bed from day 1. She was sleeping through the night by 8 weeks and continued to do so except when she was sick. But always when she got better she would go right back to sleeping all night. Well just all of the sudden she will not sleep in her crib. She started waking a dozen times a night and finally it got to the point where I just put her in bed with us so that I could get some sleep. Now she has been sleeping with us exclusively for about a week. When she goes to sleep taking her bottle, I try to lay her in her crib and she immediately wakes up and starts crying. She is teething big time. She has 3 so far. (All on the bottom.) And now she is trying to cut some top ones and also another bottom or two. I can see all kinds of little white bumps in her mouth. So.. I'm sure that that could be part of it. Do you think it might be separation anxiety or something? Has anyone been through this? Did your baby eventually go back to sleeping in their own bed? I have to admit that I kinda like snuggling with her at night and knowing that she is safe right beside me. But... it really takes a toll on the love life. Ya know? Anyway... if anyone can offer any words of wisdom I would be very grateful!Okay, hopefully I'll talk to your girls tomorrow! Have a great night! I'm off to do some crunches. ![]() |

...work called(my day off but someone was sick) but I couldn't come in as I couldn't find a sitter(not even family).
I never accomplished a noticeable thing today(did water the lawn).Cody opened my flour bucket and dumped part of it.She opens the fridge too and can open bottle lids. She was slurping on the honey mustard Way too busy,I was almost wishing I had gone to work...Hi Dee-I didn't think mine would ever take the bottle, now she is an addict(for when she wants to lay down).Tonight she got down from the couch, went to the fridge, got her bottle, crawled back up and off to sleep.Wonder if I can train her to do that from bed so I don't have to get up LOL.I'll cut her off at a year and a half like I did the other 2,that'll be fun. Hi Amanda-welcome aboard I have no advice about the sleep situation as I am in the same boat. With my 1st it was easy but with this one she creates such a stir in the middle of the night and wakes her sisters up.I still try her in her own bed and she either cries or just walks into my room.I do believe that teething keeps them from reaching that deep sleep.Hope Shelby cuts hers fast.Cody is taking sooo long....Yeah my body is looking worse with the weight I lose.I am so flabby,blech...looks good squished into jeans but out of them YIKES Hi Hedy-way to go on the lost lbs ![]() Cody is up,it's 12:30am.I don't mind the late nights but the other 2 are up at 6am.Sigh... hi to those missing, hope all is well |

Hey everyone! Thanks Kim and Lee for your advice!! Kim I can only pray that maybe Shelby will do the same thing. I felt her gums this morning and one of her top teeth has barely broken the skin. I believe it probably happened sometime late yesterday evening because she was one cranky baby all day yesterday and was worse in the evening. We gave her Motrin though and she slept all night (with us of course
). I'm sure the other top tooth will be close behind.Lee I know exactly what you mean about squishing yourself in jeans and looking fine. I am the same way. I feel confident and attractive in my clothes, but out of them.... totally different story. We are going on vacation the first week in August and I have to buy a swimsuit. I dread it. I gonna work hard on crunches and see if I can tone my stomach a little between now and then. |

essence - My DD plays with her cup too. When she's weaned next month, she'll quickly realize that it's more than a play toy, as your DD will too. I'm sure your DD is growing just fine, she'll eat or drink when she needs to. Keep us posted as to how your trip goes, and how your DD does with weaning!
![]() Amanda - If you're tired and frustrated, then you've come to the right group! It seems like we're all struggling to get our bodies back to "something," like it was before pregnancy. At this point, I'd be happy to lose the rest of my weight. I'll worry about toning when I get there. I'm struggling with sleep issues with Leah too, so you're not alone with that either. Someday I hope to have her going to her own bed, at a set bedtime, and have her sleeping through the night. Maybe even this year. ![]() Hedy - Congrats to you for losing a few more lbs! I too try to be creative with meals. It doesn't help that I'm not a very good cook, and I try to stick with simple recipes. If the food turns out edible, then I'm happy (so is the rest of the family ). Lisa - Still struggling eh? Do you find your cake making class to be part of the problem? I can't imagine being surrounded with all that sugar, and not caving in. When you're ready, I'm sure you'll get back into the swing of things. How's Michael doing with his pulling up? Is he cruising the furniture yet? When babies start doing that, it's only a matter of time before they start taking their first steps. Too exciting! ![]() Lee - I forgot to ask before, but what's going on with the moving situation? Are you seriously thinking of moving, in the next few months? Where will you go? Are you looking forward to it? I didn't think I'd ever be a co-sleeper, but it's either that, or let Leah wake up everyone in the house. As soon as possible, Leah will be back in her own crib. It's hard enough with my other children, waking up and coming in bed with us. Wow, it does sound like you're busy keeping up with Cody. Isn't that enough of a workout for you? Leah still pretty much hovers around me. I find her grabbing at my legs, when I try to get things done around the house. MaryC |

Hi!
I was posting a few weeks ago, trying to switch formt he pregnancy thread to here..and Kyrie Grace was born July 1....8 lbs 14 oz...YAY Atkins! She was the smallest of my 8 babies...the last one was 11 lbs 2 oz. and I was using the "zone" diet. I just really need to stay strict with carbs during pregnancy. Anyway, she was my 6th homebirth and it went great with just a very long labor and a cord complication...everything is fine. I have lost 35 of the 55 lbs so far...but still had a good hormonal cry when I couldn't get into my jeans last night. So I look forward to getting to know you all a bit more...and hi! to those of you I know from the pregnancy thread!

Hey Mary!! I'm sorry to hear you're having sleep troubles too. It's so frustrating. I had no intentions of being a co-sleep either and we thought we were going to be soo lucky with her being such a good sleeper from early on. Unfortunately.. it just didn't last. It comes to a point though when you just have to get some sleep. Whatever it takes.. you have to sleep. I have decided that as soon as Shelby gets her top 4 teeth ( I don't think it will be long at all) that we are gonna try our best to get her back in her own bed. So how does everyone feel about "cry it out". I have tried it and was not successful. I gave in. Are there any other tactics that have works for anyone?
Hey Marye! Congrats on your baby girl! That is a beautiful name. Wow! Six home births! I always thought a home birth would be nice. I'll never know though. Shelby is my first and last! LOL |

Taking a break

Amanda I think I am the odd one out around here
We do have both kids on a pretty tight routine for bedtime. Bath...books..bed (with a bottle in there right now for Sydney) We try very hard not to let her fall asleep drinking her bottle and believe it is very important to put her in her crib while she is awake...drowsy yes...but awake. This way she learns to put herself to sleep. It also works that if sh wakes up during the night she can put herself back to sleep again an doesn't need us to rock her etc. If she does wake up during the night, I will generally listen to her on the baby monitor for 10 minutes. If she hasn't gone back to sleep I'll go check on her. She almost always does. And, keep in mind, you really learn to distinguish the types of cries. If it is a better get me know mega type of cry, granted I'm not going to wait on that. Both of our kids are good sleepers and sleep in their beds.....although my son sometimes may have a bad dream and climb into bed with us on rare occasion. I'm sure it isn't right for everyone...but it is what we do and we're all sleeping at night right now. 4 more days until I finally get to go home and see my family! I have given up on my LC right now I'll get focused again after vacation. |

Hi Gals
Hi Kim-you aren't so odd
My older 2 are on a beautiful sleep routine(brush teeth,jammies,story-voila)but Cody is another story.Even with my 2nd I'd put her to bed and she'd fuss a bit but relent.I even believe in *crying it out* but when Cody gets screeching in the night the older 2 beg me to take her so they can sleep.Mind you she has really lumpy gums, wish she'd cut them and spare us all the agony.Yay 4 days time is flying ![]() Hi Marye-super Congrats on the birth of your *little* baby Kyrie! You are doing good with the weightloss,it takes time to get in those jeans So is 8 enough?Hi Mary-I have no idea about the moving situation but that at some point it is inevitable as there are no jobs here.Travelling will be a little difficult for me come winter for my job(in the next town).DH isn't sticking with this job. It's long hard hours with unsafe equipment. He barely sleeps and always has to make time.He called tonight and will be home tomorrow. There was a job offer today and he'll call when he gets in tomorrow and he says he hopes it isn't another Mickey Mouse outfit. Yeah I hear ya about cosleeping.I do start Cody off in her own bed but somehow she gets into mine. She must have crawled in last night as I don't remember going and getting her which of course is far more preferable to the "screaming" she's been doing lately in the wee hours.I'm wiped and can't wait to fall into bed tonight.I don't know what's more taxing, working all night or hanging out with the kids LOL.I love them to bits though ![]() Hi Amanda-I do crunches too and have wonderfully hard abs underneath my roll of flab.I don't know what it's going to take to have the skin shrink, maybe more time? anyway I guess I should squeeze in a mini workout before bed,if I can stay awake long enough.... |

>>Hi Marye-super Congrats on the birth of your *little* baby Kyrie! You are doing good with the weightloss,it takes time to get in those jeans So is 8 enough? Dunno. I am 43...No sign of menopause yet and my husband still finds me at least mildly attractive after 23 years of marriage... LOL! Although we are not Mormon or Catholic (our most common question, closely followed by "don't you have a t.v./don't you know what causes that??) we have a personal conviction about not limiting the number of children that God places in our family, whether by birth, adoption or aquisition...We also have an 18 yr old living with us that has been kicked out of his house because "you're 18 and old enough to be on your own"...He was in high school at the time So far, except for him, all of our children are ours by |
