Thursday, the THREETH of July

Good morning maintainers.

Did ShopRite yesterday morning and at Noon put in a call for my ear surgeon. He hadn't heard from the weekend "on-call" that I was having trouble. That surpridsed me.

Come in IMMEDIATELY...oy, I'd have never dragged groceries had I known. Well One Hour later at Roosevelt hospital (good time) I got a comple audiological test (my THIRD)...Thank heavens there's very little change in the results. But testing through the screetching tinnitus was psychologically difficult.
He said no middle ear inflammation.
Terrible words: he said that had he found much loss he'd have had to "go in again" and look around. I almost lost bowel function at these words.
Nitty gritty result- he THINKS it a case of of labyrinthitis from the "frigid theater" experience....DAMN Helen Hunt, so he's upped the pednisone to 60 mg. per day (which I WILL take all of) and put me on a gram of erythromycin q.i.d. (I THINK that means 250 mgx4)... and a powerful and expensive (thank god for samples)time release proton pump inhibitor (Prevacid)so my stomach doesn't fall out from all the meds.

Ordered me to spend as much time in bed as possible and limit my exertion to the computer the TV and a "sit in the garden."
Another audiological evaluation for next Wednesday. Thank GOD for this insurance.

I was exhausted by the time we dragged home. Thank God I had bought a cooked roaster at BJ's in the morning...Neighbor greeted us with a steamning bowl of Spanish rice.

Linda,
Thanks for the "don't worry" on the prednisone.

Shawnee,
I don't know anything about lipoflavonoids- fill me in. Gold tomatoes look so inviting.

Julie,
What did he give you for that upper back, Flexeril (cyclobenzaprine)?

Have a nice weekend everyone.
BANG....that was a firecracker!

Hey everyone!

Warming up for us today. Gonna shave the legs so I can wear shorts! Looks like the sun is shining out there a bit too, hmmm, maybe I should have kept today as a vacation day? We get 10 days vac each year on our anniversary, and I carried over 6 from last year. They WILL get used, but I generally wait for something necessary than the good ol' mental health day. I think I'll have to start taking some of them!

Zip, be careful of sun exposure with the erythromyacin, it causes sun sensitivity, and you will burn quickly! Hope these meds cure it, and hope you don't get mood swings from the prednisone. Your 'pharmacy' should be looking rather healthy right now. Just be careful and do what the Dr. said--REST!

Julie, flexaril is a pretty strong muscle relaxer, so it should do you some good. Please be very careful on your activities while you are on it, since you know it makes you a bit loopy. I have a very low tolerance for med. side effects, so am very careful about what I take. OTC cold stuff drops my on my @ss! My right wrist has tendonitis and I have lost a lot of the strength in my grip due to it. Goes back to falling on some ice 20+ years ago, and eventually a ganglian cyst had to be removed (was affecting the nerves in my hand and I was losing feeling so that's why I had to get out of office work instead of risk the cyst coming back). Anyways, it has been my 'barometer' for years now, and there's not much of anything but anti-inflammatories that will help it. When I had the surgery to remove the cyst, I got to watch (very interesting!) and I reckon I was the only person to ever tell that Dr. to write a pain 'scrip for something LESS potent than he originally prescribed! He wanted to give me Loricet and I requested him to drop it to Darvocet since I knew I could take that and function. Last thing I want after surgery is to be worshipping the porcelain god, and I know strong pain meds will get me there!

Shawnee, once again, thanks for the pics! I got some back from Wallyworld yesterday, now to find time to scan them in and post them! Got some good ones of the daylilies, just love them as they are easy to take care of and seem to love it here! I made the mistake of asking DH to show me how to run the rider years ago, and am now stuck with that job LOL. This year hasn't been too bad (allergies!) probably since it has been a little wetter and the pollens aren't flying around as much. Normally, even with Claratin I get a bit stuffed up, but haven't had to take it more than a few times so far.

Linda, do any of the holidays like the 4th affect the patients you deal with? Will y'all have a celebration there for them or just keep everything kinda quiet? I'm not familiar with any retirement communities locally, but have heard that there are lots of areas around Cookeville/Crossville in TN. That would be a good area to check in to. When my Mom was looking to move from MN, that was almost considered an option until we realized just how much she was losing her memory and couldn't function by herself in a new area. Also, check out the Knoxville surrounding area, as places like Pigeon Forge or Gatlinburg may have communities, but they are heavy tourist during the summer. TN does not have a state income tax yet, so that would definitely be a benifit!

Loretta, have fun fishing today, and don't forget the sunscreen! Looks like a warm one for us, so drink that water too. Hope you get a good catch for dinner! But most of all, enjoy yourself. How much longer before we can raid your 'mater patch?

Susan, glad you had such a nice day picnicing and relaxing with family! Hope all goes well at the dr.s and you get a clean bill of health!

Pam, have fun with the family, and be safe! We'll be waiting for you to check in!

Well, gabby me better run for now. Y'all have a great day!

Shawnee,

Those are FASCINATING links, thank you very much. I will greedily devour every word.

Ginny, thanks for the heads up on erythromycin vs. sun. For the last two years I've been preserving my skin from old SOL. I wish I could get back the 12,964,218 hours I clocked baking on a beach....how stupid we are when we're young........and old! I think I'll go shopping for a lovely parasol (on sale of course).

Roger

ps....Seems I'm coming down with bronchitis. The ear thing is beginning to make more sense.

Hi
Shawnee I am positively jealous with those almost red toms. I keep hoping every day when I check for some, down on my knees searching, praying. Thanks for the pictures to remind me what I am looking for.

Zip sure glad the doc had you come right in. You sure are having a problem. All those meds working together to get you well. Rest probably very important there also. At least your runs have quit.

Linda I did not catch any fish yesterday. Dh caught some nice ones. A large crappie, 15 inches and a large sauger 14 inches. Supper for tonight. Baked. I am going to try a new recipe from a friend called Okra Tomato Bake. Includes, onions, green peppers, okra, tomatoes, bacon, p. cheese. We will see. Hers tasted just great. She used some Rotel toms to spice it up.
No sun burn to report, I wore on of DH's long sleeve white shirts. My hands are a little red and my neck some.

Ginny good you knew about the sun sensitivity on the erythro for Zip, I was not aware of that. Ginny take those vacation days and enjoy them. Don't save up too many. I used to do that too but lost a bunch of days when I left one on my 3 jobs.
The Darvocet worked wonders for DH and his shoulder problem a while back. He just cannot take those high powered meds without having side effects.

Julie hope you back "lets" you enjoy your camping. Be careful out there and have a fun time. So many people out and about. I'm just a stay at homer.

Pam enjoy your family. Hope all goes well with that for you.

Susan what are you busy with. Now we have our holiday tomorrow, the Fourth of July. Lots of big noises going on, Barbeques etc. We will be home alone (I hope). We will be having lots of company later this month.

Will check back later after I check my Toms.

Loretta

Good morning or guess it's afternoon,

All packed and ready to go. Just wating for some of our friends to come by so we can travel together. The park isn't all that far.

Roger, the Dr. put me on Methocarbamol,500mg. every 6 hours. I seem to be somewhat better this morning but not going to push it. Will spend the weekend relaxing and taking naps. Sure, with 33 people there?? LOL
Hey, I hope you feel better too. Boy are we a bunch here. Age is not being good to us. Take care and when I get home, I hope you are a lot better.

Ginny, it took 3 hours for that muscle relaxer to hit me last night but sure felt I was higher than a kite. I have a real comfy bed in the trailer.

Hi to everone else. Have a great and safe 4th of July.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMERICA!!!
(no white here)
Julie

Wanted to leave you with a little humor. Will be back on Sunday.

The success of the "Wonder Bra" for under-endowed women, has encouraged
the designers to come out with a bra for over-endowed women.

It's called the "Sheep Dog Bra."

It rounds them up and points them in the right direction.

Julie I love the Bra Joke. Have a great time.

Shawnee flowers are identified. I posted them over on the golden bb and a gal made this comment.
Loretta, I loved your flowers...made me happy as I didn't have time to post mine...I love the purple and white neurembergia, and what is that in the middle?
The mystery is solved.

Yea that's them.

Evening motly crew Well at least we are all still breathing, eh?

Poor Roger, if it's not one thing, it's another. Your doc sounds like he's right on top of things though. Listen to him and don't do much of anything.
Now bronchitis? Well at least the erythromycin will take care of that too. Don't forget to eat your yogurt and drink that kefir. You don't want those "trots" again.

Avoiding the sun is something I have done since a trip to Greece in 1974. When I got back with a really dark tan, all three of the plastic surgeons I worked with chewed me another one. Oy!

Julie, LOL loved the joke. You have a safe and fun trip and DON'T do much of anything. Hope you remembered to take that camera.

Loretta, Sorry you didn't catch any fish but at least dh did. Bet they were wonderful!!
I'm with you and jealous as hell of Shawnee's toms. I still have flowers and no sign of a tom yet.

Susan, enjoy your weekend and don't work to hard. Why not pretend you have a holiday weekend and celebrate with us?

Pam, enjoy your family and slow it down a little too. Gosh you spring chickens make me feel like a very old lady. Where do you find the energy to do so much?

Ginny, thanks for the info on Tennessee cities. I'll do a search later. I don't mind paying high sales tax as long as realestate taxes are within reason.

I thought I was the only one crazy enough to insist on being totally awake through surgery. Had a ganglion cyst and some nerve damage repaired with an IV block. One of my former plastic surgeons did the surgery and it sure was fun watching. Sorry you had to give up your office job, but yours sounds like much more fun and not nearly as boring.

Shawnee, Working hard was something I always did too but now I find I can't do nearly as much. Damn this old age.
Interesting links, thanks.
Bet you would rather be outside in the yard with pup but necessary suzy stuff must be done. I'm off to clean a bathroom or two and dust.

Traffic is just awful around here. Most out of state cars are heading North. Humm, must be going to the Finger Lakes, Great Lakes or the Mountains. When the trees are bare, I can see the interstate, across the river, from my front windows.

Later

HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!

Hi Guys,

Just checkin in late. Had the Prenatal Class tonight. They are a wonderful bunch of youngsters.

Had the docs this morning, yep, he gave me a letter with his opinion and states that he recommends an open biopsy, so at least we know what we are dealing with. He said its either now or in 4 or 5 years. So I guess I will schedule for Sx. Its gotta be done!

Linda, know need to pretend to celebrate your Holdiay! DS is celebrating it too tomorrow down in my FAV State!

Roger, Hope you are "in the Pink" agin soon! Glad you managed to get the free samples, if not pick up some Canadian Meds are a reduced price when ya come North to "Tie the Knot."

Julie, Loved the Bra Joke, that'll be me!....rounds em up and points them in the right direction! Have a great trip and rest that back. That Med is a good one!

Loretta, Loved those flowers, what ever name they are. Like old Willy says, a Rose by any other name should smell as sweet!
What, no Fish stories to tell! Yep, be careful in that Sun. A few minutes gives us enough Vit D so we can absorb the ol Calcium. Enjoy the fireworks and BBQ, hope you are alone as you wished.

Ginny, I'm with you gal! Off to get my legs waxed tomorrow morning! I visit the salon more often in the summer months cuz, WE can wear shorts with pridenow, with our WOL! Gotta celebrate these things!

Pam, Enjoy your Family!

Off to catch Leno!

Hi again

WOW, it sounds like a War Zone here; at least we don't have to worry about being blown up, just from having the place catch fire from the flying fireworks. Irresponsible jerks abound!

I decided that Suzy work is for the birds on a nice day; it should be illegal/ immoral to do housework when the sun is shining!

ZIP, what are we gonna do with you, encase you in a big bubble?
Lordy, Guy...its time for you to catch a break instead of additional maladies. REST!

Loretta, how was the Fish Bake? Hooray, you got the flower properly identified, and I learned of a new -to-me plant. Gorgeous lil guys.
Those new Toms are GoldNuggets; they graced our Lunch salads, along with a couple of the Tumblers. A TOTAL fluke, having ripe ones in this area before late July/mid-August...must be all this extra sunshine.

Susan, Bless your heart...I feel the same as you, I'd want to get it done ASAP...waiting years would drive me insane. It's easier to deal with facts than possibilities.

We have a 4 day Celebration at our Lake/Park uptown...will take a stroll thru it in the morning. Usually run into friends and family there...and delicious aromas from the food vendors...

Montana, I like to have my fix-up work done under Local, whenever possible..yup, its facinating.
Do you have any pics you could share from your trip to Greece?

Ginny, looking forward to seeing your new pics.

Hi to busy Tink, hope your Family visit is running smoothly and happily.

Bye-bye to Julie, enjoy your trip.

Worked out again today....if sweat is any indication of something happening, Something Happened! LOL

Have a Fun and Safe holiday

Shawnee

Glad you said to hell with suzy today and enjoyed yourself.
Have fun at the lake/park tomorrow. I bet it's beautiful!

No pictures except one of me that I may upload, bell bottoms and all. I do have 300 slides and have no clue on how to load them on the comp. I'm not about to spend a small fortune getting negatives and pictures made. LOL Humm, I wonder if I can project them and take a digital picture with my camera???

Susan, I don't blame you for getting it done and over with either. Shawnee is right. It is easier to deal with facts.

Mother of Pearl , it's almost 3am here, so I best be off to bed.
Happy 4th everyone.
