WEDNESDAY, Jun 25
HEAT WAVE....Heat indices to 110° today. Yesterday, the Hudson kept us only hot. But when I stepped off the PATH train in NYC, I alsost DIED...too much too soon.
This diarrhea is still murdering me (and dehydrating and exhausing me- even causing leg cramps). Of course sweating in the heat makes things bad. Felt like "homemade shiit"[from an old FUGS song], crawling home last night (from the show- excellent acting, fun but weakly written material) Audiology test and final cleanout today. Maybe my surgeon will know whether I have "clindamycin colitis" - SEVERE ILLNESS, or not. I'm starting to worry. Twice daily kefir now to battle the suspected overgrowth of Clostridium difficili that causes this dreadful condition ....Treatment is unfortunately ANOTHER ANTIBIOTIC- vancomycin - the last of the BIG GUNS.....I'm trying to avoid that- it used to require CDC approval on a case to case basis lest bugs get immune...AND THEN THERE ARE NONE. Linda, Glad the stone is out and the pics are interesting. It's hard to tell though what is stone and what is ureter and I'm not sure I can see the basket. They should have squeezed my CANON Sure Shot up there for some ggod resolution...maybe some extra lighting equipment too. So they got the stone and are analyzing it. As I recall, a urinary acidifier like methionine (an essentail amino acid) is used to prevent most type stones....at least that's what my cats took REGULARLY[ ]!It seems that Gerard will have to spend the rest of his life trying to avoid MANY MANY drugs...I seemed aimed in that direction myself. Strange though, as a youngster I could take ANYTHING! Shawnee, Nope, the movie was the VERY VERY famous ANNIE HALL). Whenever Dianne Keaton got nervous she said "Lah, Dee Dah...Lah, Dee DAH" When you next see the film (and you should see it often) you will laugh your asp off! Loretta, Quote:
Sometimes I WISH as hard as I can that there really IS a Hell and that it is propulated 100% with NUNS AND PRIESTS, and psychosis is no excuse on judgement day. God's word to them would be: "DEPART TO HELL, YE WHITENED SEPULCHERS" Is DH taking allopurinol (Zyloprim?) He absolutely should be- and then he can eat all the liver, kidneys, sweetbreads caviar and achovies he wants with NO worry...a wonderful drug that I've taken daily for 10 years! Julie, No need for the glass at all. Proper engineering technique can involve piping the water directly into the mouth....the water fountain. Better yet...THE INTRAVENOUS DRIP![ ]I'm not thrilled about dragging myself to the nether regions of EAST Manhattan to the hospital in this wretched heat, but I MUST go....also I MUST close the FOURTH large CD which expired Sunday, lest it roll over at 0.6% (AAAAAUUUUUGGGGGHHHHH!) Ginny, I know of what you speak. Last apartment for the first 10 ish years we had 15 amp service to the whole place. Of course you couldn't make toast and coffee at the same time unless you turned off every light. Air conditioning with almost NOTHING ELSE ON....even the fridge compressor would groan and the TV picture would shrink- LOTS (like letterbox before they invented it. I am in SEVENTH HEAVEN here with about 100 amps per apartment. I could use arc welding equipment![ ] Each air conditioner is 4000 watts (when used to heat)Love and kisses, The Weak (and weak willed) Roger

Hey y'all,
Was woke up at the ungodly hour of 7 this morning with the floor vibrating! WTH!! Sit up abruptly, throw on bathrobe, look outside and they're doing REPAVING on our road! Detour to bathroom, climb back in bed and catnap for another hour. SHEESH! You'd think they have a little more respect for a 2nd shifter! I'll be tired tonight! Linda, those pics are really interesting! So do they figure they got it all out? Hoping for a speedy recovery for the brave Gerard! And for you, of course! Keep us posted. Shawnee, have you picked that 'mater yet? We are anxiously awaiting a full report (including pup's thoughts). Hope you get a 'day off' soon and can just play. Zip, the diarhhea has been going on long enough. Make them stop it (but not stop you too much!), you'll get all your levels out of balance! Sounds like you're low on potassium now with the leg cramps, or that your sodium/potassium levels are out of whack pretty bad. Glad you enjoyed the show, too bad the writing was a bit lame. Those 3 big guns deserve an EXCELLENT script! Loretta, so did your DH catch any fish? I know what you mean about running all the errands taking lots of time. I've gotten to where I set my route and just slam through as fast as I can. At least with my schedule I generally don't run in to too many crowds and can usually get in and out fast. Hopefully you are keeping that foot out of the carbeurator as you go from place to place ![]() Pam, hoping you feel better soon! Surely you can get into the neurologist sooner than a month?! Take some time off to relax and take care of yourself! Susan, sounds like you're having some gorgeous weather now! Yep, gotta have that AC running when it heats up so quick. We're just not acclimated yet! We took our unit out (wall unit, no central heat/air here) and cleaned it. All ready for the first big climate control day. How long before you have to do another speech? Julie, looks like Shawnee will win the race...have you got your midnight tomato raid clothes ready? LOL Stiffness is easing up some, still no obvious visual expression of the affected areas (no bruising showing much) so hopefully all will heal quickly. The kitchen floor is almost done, and next will be some wiring adjustments. We're going to have to reroute a little of the kitchen to another circuit to avoid the breaker tripping. There are times when I wish we'd have redone all the electric in this house when we moved in! Modifying an older home is really a booger when you have to deal with what someone else did. Well, off to start moving for the day...

Hi, Y'all
Beautiful morning here, gonna see high eighties ![]() Montana, you and poor Gerard have been pulled thru the proverbial knothole...backwards! Damn, sometimes the "fix" is worse than the actual malady Hoping today brings relief for both of you. Thanks for the pix of the stone/basket...had you not explained them, I'd have thought they were shots of a Planet thru a telescope...Mars? WOW, ZIP...that Guilt thingy sure hits a raw nerve with you! In my early thirties, I was convinced I was nuts, and saw a great shrink who told me to dump my burdens of guilt back onto the ones who had dumped them on me...they were NOT mine to carry. (Acute Depression, not "nuts"..LOL) By then, most of those people were dead, so I had several graveside chats with the departed to clear the air. One adult niece overheard me doing this...she said, "That must have felt GOOD!" I told her to give it a shot, and she was afraid to...I told her that Death did not turn those mortals into Saints...Finally, she was able to do it, tears flowing...afterwards, she was BEAMING thur those tears. Anyhoo, it sure had a cleansing effect for me, and I apologize to no one for it. As for the living ones, I made it clear that they were no longer welcome to invade any part of my life. "Cancers" need to be removed, and I did just that. I also learned to say "NO". I'm still stuck with this Conscience, but really don't mind that much. It keeps me accountable for my actions, and I feel "square" with my Creator. You are obviously carrying a lot of angers from the past; glad to see ya dumping some of them today... hope you can find your own way to let them all go, and be free of them. We can't change the Past, but we damn sure don't have to let it ruin our Present. Off the Soapbox now... Ginny, Bummer for such a rude awakening! Hope your "owie" is healing... Yeah, I'll give a full report on the Tom later...planned for Noon consumption. ![]() To all, hope your day brings Contentment. Be back later, the sun is beconing me. Shawnee |

WOW, what a powerful morning already. The guilt thing!! I also have that horrible thing over me a lot. Sex a biggie. My kids have said I have dumped guilt on them too. Oh I want to cry. Now, am trying real hard to correct that. It does creep in though. It was so drummed into our heads. Can't even talk about it. Thanks Shawnee, maybe I'll try the graveside chat and see if I feel better.
Zip, the weather is awful. Going from rain and cool to that heat!! I was going to complain about us fluctuating between low 60's to low 80's but won't say a word!! About being an engineer, I laughed at what you said because thats exactly what my hubby would've said. He could figure out something better. He takes things apart to just see how they work, I swear! It makes him quite creative though. He has built a motor home from a 1 ton chasis and we used it for 19 years and then sold it. He has remodeled our house a million times. We did a big remodel in 95. Took out a half wall and moved it out into the living room and deleted the living room and made it the dinning room. Nobody ever used it anyway, we use the family room. He eliminated a bedroom and moved the front door and made a hallway for stairs because he dug out a 2 car garage and workshop under the house. Anyway, back to the kitchen, it is about twice as big as it use to be. With an island and a table. Love it!Also has built nearly all of our furniture except couch and chairs. Enough about the talents of my DH. Diarrhea HAS gone on way too long. Find out what is going on man. Ginny, glad you are getting over the little accident. Keep moving so you're not stiff. Got my midnight raid clothes laid out on the bed, but she said she's going to eat it at lunch. DAMN! Shawnee, let us know how it taaasssstttteeee. Can't even say it. It breaks my heart, Ok, YOU WON!!!!! Linda, sure hope Gerard feels better today. What did they give him for the reaction? Benydral? sp.? Got to run, going for a walk with my neighbor. Hate to have SET times to do something. I need to start a regimen for myself regarding exercise. Have been in such a rut. Makes me so mad as I have been such an enthusiastic exerciser all my adult life. Got to run, check back later. I didn't get off my chest everything I wanted to say. Didn't check my english or spelling so bear with me. Julie

Hello everyone,
Roger, I'm getting concerned about you an those runs. Please don't let the electrolytes get all out of balance. You may need to take extra potassium.. It's nothing to fool with as you well know. Go see your primary care physician and have those checked. It''s appalling that young children have guilt shoved down their throats by any organized religion. Gerard's face is still a little bit swollen but not nearly the "Daffy Duck" appearance of yesterday.. All of the pictures are "inside" the ureter. I used the paint function to circle the stone in black. The pointy thing is the basket ..Second is the same but the laser is inside the basket...third is the basket open around the stone.. note the black lines extending out from the round object( stone) in the middle...#4 pic. is the laser blast shattering the stone.Clear as mud, eh? Susan, "Make a friend with silence" LMAO What a polite way of saying we talk to much. Glad the speach went well though.Ginny, Old homes are a pain to remodel. Sometimes it's easier to start from scratch. Glad you are putting in another circut for the kitchen. I loved Loretta's suggestion to use the gas grill to make coffee. I've done that more than once. Road crews have no respect for 2nd shift workers. You have my deepest sympathy and understanding. Glad the bum is healing well. Loretta, Did dh catch any fish? If I were you, I would jump in that beautiful lake for a swim. Do you do much of that? Julie, I'm in awe of your dh. He actually built a motor home that lasted for 19 years and actually completed all of those other projects?? WOW! Humm, can I borrow him for a few months? Shawnee, Graveside chats are wonderful!! I've lost most of my guilt with long vents there. Roger and the rest should try them. It's so therapeutic. Sorry this is short but I'm so tired and can't really think or type right now. More later. |

Hi to all
Gee Zip hope you can get rid of that diarrhea quick. Your system is getting depleted of its important electrolytes. Are you seeing the doc soon, like today. Sorry for opening up the guilt issue. I guess it was "the way it was done" then. Thank God the emphasis has shifted to find the good in ourselves and others. God really made us magnificently. We are amazing. I agree with Shawnee that we cannot change the past and do not need to let it affect our present. I too feel that a healthy Conscience keeps us accountable to our Creator. Linda thanks for the great shots of Gerards ureter. How amazing to see that so quickly after the procedure was finished. I was very surprised at the photos. Thanks for posting them. Sorry to hear that Gerard had another set back from the rx. Sure hope is is on the straight and narrow now. DH caught a few fish yesterday. We don't swim in the lake, it is not all that clean. I have not gone swimming for several years. I used to enjoy it. Ginny I can always find a way to make coffee. It is my #1 priority. Your project is getting bigger and more involved daily. I know you will be happy to get the job done and will enjoy that new kitchen doubly. That is what my Dh must be a second shifter. He sure likes sleeping until 10 or 11 am. Those people cutting grass at 9 am sure bother him. Good thing he does not hear all that well. Boy when the sun comes up I am ready to get up too. Shawnee you are probably biting into that tomato right now as I am posting. Enjoy, enjoy. Are you going to describe your taste delights to us as Ginny did last year. The plants are drying out finally. Now I am afraid to water them even it they show wilting from the hot sun. Tried to find some Dusty Miller yesterday but no luck. The sure have lots of impatiens though. Julie what a handyman you have there. Sounds like he can do about anything in and around the house. Built a camper, WOW. He sure is a keeper. He can design the project and then get to building it. Sure is cost effective too. Julie no lunch dates this week? You sure are on the go a lot. Pam you sure seem to be having some health problems there. I wish they could get you in sooner to see that doc. All of those specialists sure seem to stay busy. Slow down gal. Hi to Susan. Is your weather staying warm up there? Do you have a vegetable garden? I bet you are glad that your speech is done with for a while. How soon before you do another one? Going to have lunch and then haul another load or two of rock. I am using 6 buckets and putting them my trunk. I can't fill them too full or I won't be able to life them. So I set them in the car and then add more rocks from a smaller bucket. My neighbor called last evening and said I could have them for the taking. I think it will work fine. 12 buckets down and another 6 or so to go. Ooooowwweeee I am going to feel it tomorrow. Later, Loretta Last edited by Loretta V : 06-25-2003 at 12:37 PM. |

Me again! Got all my things done that I needed to do and still have time to pop in here again. I reckon that early rising accomplished something besides aggravating me LOL
Shawnee, excellent way to deal with guilt and giving it back! I like the idea of the graveside chats and airing it all out. Even if you can't do that (location may be difficult for some to actually get to the site) even writing a letter to the person(s) is beneficial. I think all of us have some wounds from the past as to how we were raised, whether they be guilt, favoritism, emotional abuse/neglect, or whatever. Whatever wounds there are need to be lanced, drained and then allowed to heal. Just like a cancer or infection, not treating these things will affect one in their dealings with themselves and others. IMO, respect and worth is earned, and we have to learn how to allow ourselves to earn our own respect. What we're doing here by keeping our bodies healthy and thin is a wonderful start! Linda, hope Gerard is feeling better today! That sucks about his reaction to the meds...poor guy! Did they remove all the fragments or is he having to eliminate them himself? Loretta, yep, just accepting something for 'the way it was done' back then has harmed many. I'm hoping that now the pendulum has swung the other way (giving self esteem without earning it) that it will come back to a happy medium! Julie, let it out, whether here or elsewhere so it can heal! You can't change the past, but can start with the present and modify! Zip, you've started a good ball rolling...Growing up around Catholics and not being one, I only saw a bit of what that church teaches. It was confusing to say the least! Well, all, off to lurk for a few, then time for work. Have a great day! |

Hi again...
Loretta...you've opended up a subject that has apparently touched a lot of us deeply, and don't even think of apologizing for it!...may just help get some personal healing done ![]() Goddess, I couldn't agree more with your every word, if I had written your thoughts myself! The one thing I cannot tolerate is using the Past as an excuse to be a Poop in the Present...drag out that past, examine it, exorcize it, move on and be responsible for your own actions. Montana, glad to hear that Gerard and you are having a better day! ![]() Julie, you are blessed with a wonderful DH He may be quiet and analytical, but he sure accomplishes a lot.About the Tom......oh, it was kinda difficult to actually pick it! Left the little plant lookin' kinda naked, no red spot! I first fed Pup her lunch, so she would be satiated suffeciently before trying the delicacy. A quick rinse, then de-capping the lil thing...a serrated knife quickly and cleanly cleaved three equal parts. (Why am I feeling badly about this long-anticipated moment?) Maybe because ANTICIPATION is frequently more rewarding than the actual accomplishment....and I hate disappointment! Here's the Pic of Pup receiving her bit of the Famous Tom...give it a click..(PhotoIsland being cranky again) http://www.boomspeed.com/shawneesioux/puptomjune25.JPG Her reaction: Lip smacks, three tail thumps...then THE LOOK...More? ...then the incredulious Look...NO more???? Human reactions: Bob said "That's damn good, lotta flavor in that bitty half-bite!" Mine: Skin very firm, not tough..CRISP! rather an acidy but not unacceptable flavor, ..followed by an explosion of SWEETNESS as the "meat " met the taste buds. Let the experience linger on my tongue as long as possible...hated to actually swallow and end it all.. And now we wait not so patiently for the next fruits of our labor. Going to Curves soon, then to the Farmer's Mkt. It has a special "downtown" event on Wed., streets blocked off...supposed to be a Festive gathering ![]() Later Shawnee |

Ginny you did a wonderful job of putting "our wounds from the past" all together whether it be abuse or neglect and to show us in the many ways it affects our lives. A lot of people want to hang on to it and use it as a crutch. You have a wonderful way with words.
Not even sure now how I got that going. Oh Shawnee I loved the pic of Pup enjoying her taste of the tom. You sure made me feel like I was right there in the kitchen with you, Bob and pup enjoying that tiny morsel from harvesting, cleaning, cutting and serving. Going to see if the boat has pulled into the dock. Later Loretta |

Audiologic Test are as SPECTACULAR on paper as they are in person. After the audio test the audiologist said "I've done MANY of these tests and it;s rare I've seen such an improvement- your doctor will be pleased."
My response: "My DOCTOR will be pleased????" I told him about the vicious diarrhea and he was as concerned about Clostridium difficili superinfection as I. He was going to prescribe Flagyl (metronidazole...which is the #2 treatment aftyer the vancomycin) but thought better of it and called my PCP who said "Come on down"....just like Jamaica. So off I toddled to Greenwich Village in godawful heat and doc wants stool samples, 3 cartons, and then I should immediately drop them off at a Quest Lab. One sample must be brought immediately and there flash frozen. He also prescribed Flagyl (hardly worth the trip) and I shouldn't take the first dose til I get the stool sample..... Logistically this is going to be tough to work out....I sure am not going back into town again and I can't fill the sample jars til I'm just ready to leave....and I can't take a Flagyl til I poop....cut me a break here! Another wrinkle: 2 days of double dose kefir may have stopped the runs in their tracks about 7 AM today...dare I hope? Of course, you guys know me: I've been taking perhaps 2000 mg Potassium daily (as No-Salt) + about 500 mg. Magnesium in my Crystal Light , plus all the salty food I usually avoid (maybe 4 grams a day NaCl....If I hadn't I'd have gone into a coma by last Saturday.) I started the minerals at day 2 of the diarrhea....as it was I almost fainted in yesterday's heat. If I've truly stopped crapping, I will just not do ANYTHING more other than continue to eat cheese (to block things up) and enjoy lots of kefir. I was gonna do a kefir colonic tonight but maybe not necessary. Anyhoo, as long as I was at my PCP I said I get chest pain....the last leg in my journey to an insurance free life. I have a referral to a cardiologist for a probable angiogram- without one I wouldn't dare drop the insurance...one coronary event and we are both on the bread lines! It was A FULL day. Oh yeah, I got to Emigrant bank at 2:58 and they slammed the door in my face and I went to Vitamin Shoppe to redeem my $10 coupon for a $50 purchase (8 bottles of Cod Liver Oil....they had TONS of cherry favored and mint flavored (BLLECCHHH!) but only 2 of the unflavored,,,,they will order 8 and call me. Shopping wasn't very productive today. Can you see why I'm not running to a lab today. Oh some dipshiit pulled my cable by mistake???....in a now locked box-unlocked for the previous YEAR...til this morning????...so no TV lest I have something good on tape (I BELLOWED at the cable company a little while ago)...Bob doing 4 hour standing room to LONG DAY'S JOURNEY INTO NIGHT...God bless his energy (and he's 16 years my senior----SURPRISE) Linda ROFL....I thought you said those jiggely black lines were the laser cuts ... I thought the doc should lave been charged with an LUI and sent to laser scool....PAINT that explains it...those are the way my lines come out too!!! Shawnee, That is soo cute...whooda thunk a doggie would like tomatoes. Were you holding the camera in the other hand? Are there any pinkies-in-waiting? Julie boy do I ever want to put my arms around you and give you a big hug. {{{{{Julie}}}}}
Life is not always easy is it? Sometimes we beat ourselves up too. We as individuals are such a combination of parents, siblings, our place in the pecking order etc. Our heritage, religion, our economic beginnings etc. One cannot begin to fathom what really makes us, us. It goes on and on the list of things that make us who we are. I think we are basically all the same and have the same needs. The need to be loved and to love, #1. You cannot change your daughter as I could not change any of my children. We have to accept each other where we are and love unconditionally (a big task). Thanks for sharing a big part of yourself with us. Love Loretta |

Julie ((((hugs))) you are a wonderful and strong person for sharing a big part of yourself with us. Thank you. As Loretta said we can't change our kids or our past. It's a huge part of all of us. Your daughter will learn this as all of us did. Don't let it disrupt your life now, and as our wise Shawnee said " move on."
My kids blamed their dad's death on me for a time saying if I hadn't divorced him, he would still be alive. HUH?? They can blame me for many things but not a massive MI from years of abusing his body. It's in the past now, and we have a friendly and on occasion, a sometimes warm relationship. It's adult now so we all keep our advice and opinions on how we should live our lives to ourselves. Shawnee, pup looks extremely happy and content even though wanting more of the tomato. Your eloquent description just about allowed me to tast that tom. Hope you enjoyed the festival today. Tell us all about it. Roger, Maybe the kefir has completely stopped those runs. Next time take some with the antibiotic. My pharmacist always reminds me to eat things with live culture when I''m prescribed an antibiotic. Knock on wood, it's always kept those nasty runs away. No you didn't have a very productive shopping day Pam, Are you getting any rest? We all worry about your hectic schedule. Back to the couch for some R & R. I can't get my old body to do much today. Hi Guys!
Checking in late! It has been a hot, sunny one agin up here! I have just got home from the Adult Smoking Cessation Group last one, so that is the end of them till Septemeber. I start the Prenatal Classes tomorrow night. Then at the office all day Friday! DH is very pleased with his efforts on the deck and we finally have all the patio furniture washed and in place. We humans are all so very similar. You are in good company on this BB. It's So good for the "soul" to express our feelings, glad ya did it here! Ginny & Loretta those that asked the next speech will be mid July, I think, I'll have to recheck the date. Anyhoo, looks like I have lots of posts/reading to catch up on. WOW, ......Anything said at this point would be anticlimatic, so I'll just say I'm very pleased that so much healing/cleansing, both mentally and physically, was accomplished here today
![]() Kinda like an o' time revival /confessional/ and psyche visit all in one shot. Very cathartic, I'd say. ![]() A round of APPLAUSE here for everyone who opened up and spoke from their hearts...and grateful our ZIP, Gerard, and Goddess are on the mend physically. OK, on a lighter note... DGBrat and I did Curves (3rd day this week) and then took in the Downtown Farmers Mkt. We enjoyed strolling thru it, and checking out the various wares. The KettleKorn vendor was popping up a fresh batch, and that wonderful aroma wafted thru the breeze..oh, my! LOL, NO...we walked away ...back down the street towards where we'd parked. Just so happens, two of our fav Resale joints are on that block. I bought books cheap!!! and SEVEN shirts/blouses ( Eddie Bauer, Abercrombie & Fitch,Liz Claiborne, and Old Navy) for $2 a pop! Hehe, got that Retail Therapy in with an unplanned spree. Shawnee |

Shawnee, I'm so proud of you passing up that KettleKorn. It's really hard, huh? I did it at the ball game last week but it about killed me. I wanted some so bad. good bargans too. $2.00 for anything is good.
Roger, back to you finally. The report on the Audiologic Test is wonderful news. Yes, you must be pleased. Sure hope the Kefir has helped stop those awful runs. Do you really take Cod Liver Oil? I took that as a kid. What are you taking it for. Didn't mean to ignor you earlier. Sorry. Linda, how is Gerard tonight? Sure been on all of our minds. Susan, Are you glad the lecture is over? do you really enjoy giving these speeches? Sounds like we have a lot in common. Isn't it amazing when you mention gay children, how many pop up and say they do too or have friends who do? Sounds like you have your patio all ready to enjoy some summer! til tomorrow, Julie |
