How Often Do You Measure?

Since the scale can often be misleading, I've decided to start taking measurements.

How often do you measure? Weekly? Monthly?

Or do you just notice, "Hey, my pants aren't/are tight!"

Since the measuring tape is the bane of my existence as the scale is to others, I just go by the feel of my clothes. Sadly, it is not changing as quickly as I want because my belly fat just hangs on for dear life. I do eventually want to take measurements as I lose more fat and start to tone up because the scale will become even less important then. Perhaps in 15 more pounds which is still going to be awhile for me.

Once a month.

I weigh daily, measure monthly, get a hydrostatic body analysis every four months, and chart it all (I'm a numbers geek). Of the three, the scale is the least helpful, and the body fat test is the most helpful, but they all give me information I can use.

I also regularly try on clothes that are too small.

I measure EVERYTHING (almost ) once a month. It is a pain & time-consuming but it always makes me happy once it is done.

If I am planning to order clothes or go bra shopping mid-month I will measure those areas again. It can make a difference.

Like Ntombi, I am a numbers geek & track my weight every day.

I learned the hard way to try on clothes often. all my old too-small clothes are gone now - too big - but I often buy things just a wee bit tight so I'll be able to wear them as long as possible before they get too big.

I am more of a fit of my clothes kind of girl. I do wish I would have taken measurements at the beginning so I could see how far I have come, but I didn't.

Start now! Seriously. You won't have the numbers from day one but you will have them from now on. It will be just as motivating, I promise.

It took me a long time to start measuring everything. Even so, I ended last year with almost as many inches lost as pounds. If I had actually started measuring everywhere on day one I know would have proof that I lost more inches than pounds.

I weigh fairly regularly but I tend to go by my clothes for the other things.

This is partly because I'm never really sure if I'm measuring in the right/same places. An inch or two up or down or if the tape isn't straight and it can do crazy things to the results, which in turn drives me crazy. Still, it's a good guide overall if you don't start obsessing over it like I do.

I never bother with measuring at all. I use the scale to monitor my weight-period. Measurements are too easy to do wrong, for me at least, and the scale keeps me honest because I know that a pound or two in either direction is irrelevant, but I have my 'go no further' limit, too.

I use a scale once a week. Every ten pounds or so I measure. That's also when I take front and side selfies so I can visually see the difference.

It is definitely easy to measure incorrectly and/or in different spots. It is important to always measure in the same place. I keep the exact places where I measure (like 3 inches down, at belly button, etc.) in my stats notes to avoid the problem.

I may be a bit unusual in that I do not have a scale weight goal. The scale really does not tell me anything much of importance regarding my fat loss. It is more of a reminder of what causes me to retain water & what doesn't.

I'm the same way. Weigh in pounds and body fat % every morning and monitor the trends.

I do body measurements on the last Monday of every month, but have currently started weighing daily to monitor fluctuations and patterns on my wifi-enabled scale (used to weigh weekly, and before that, monthly).

I rarely bother to measure. I don't find the scale to be misleading at all.

I weigh daily and measure monthly. I weigh daily, because when/if the pounds begin to creep back on, I want to be ready to fight back. I measure monthly, because it is so rewarding to see those numbers go down, and some measurement or another always goes down.

I'm with JanetA, I weigh daily and measure monthly. I ignore changes on the scale of 2lbs or less but anything more and I know I have to reel it back in. Weighing can be a bit depressing but so far measuring has been great. For 22 days I stayed the same weight +/- a pound but I measured and WOW I had lost so many inches everywhere! The very next day I dropped 3.5lbs!

I can't rely on clothes, it takes too long for my size to change even with inches pouring off me.

I weigh myself every single day, and I measure with the tape measure monthly, and keep track of it all!

That being said, I will sometimes "spot check" my waist measurement once a week, or once every two weeks, just to make sure things are progressing like they should!
