Vacation indulgence is over!

Yesterday I returned home after a 2-week vacation, and this morning I weighed in at about 4 pounds higher than before I left. Not too bad!

I was on Oahu, in Honolulu mostly, visiting my bachelor brother. He doesn't keep any food on hand, so we ate out almost the whole time.

I didn't go too crazy with my eating, but I did have rice, fruit, and a couple bowls of shave ice (sno-cone ice with syrups and stuff). And a couple of malasadas (fancy donuts).

But on the healthier side, I had several lunches of poke (marinated raw fish). I love poke, and you can't really get it on the mainland. All fish on the islands is awesome, actually.

I'm back on the wagon today, and hoping to get into fat-burning ASAP. Any advice for a quick return to ketosis?

Sounds like a great vacation with no real damage done at all.

Honestly, I'd just get on your regular plan and maybe drink a little extra water. No need to go to any extremes.

It sounds like you had a great time. Welcome back.

You could do a fat fast for a couple of days, if your up to it (I've never done one myself). It should get you to ketosis a little faster and maybe she'd a pound or two. Or like advised, just go back on plan and not worry about it.

I seriously doubt you ate enough to actually gain four pounds. Drink your water and just getting back on your plan should do it. Sounds like you did really well, and that's awesome!

Eat zero carbs for a day or two (and drink much agua) and you'll shed that water-weight in no time.

MMMM, I love poke! I loved that it was sold in every grocery store over there. Can't wait to go back!

I agree that a few zero carb days and those 4 lbs will be history!

Mmm, yes. I wish I had enough time to try every kind! I saw at least 20-30 different varieties. If you do go back, I can heartily recommend Taniokas out in Waipahu. It's kind of a hike to get there from Honolulu, but, on the other hand, it's right on the way back from the North Shore. SO GOOD.

We are headed to the big island next year, but there's an off chance that I will be on Oahu for a few days. If that happens, i will definitely check it out!

You did pretty good with only 4 pounds in two weeks. I went there for a week last summer and gained 8 pounds (which I lost within a couple of weeks.) Of course, I love the Hawaiian Host brand of chocolate macadamia nuts and I probably ate a box a day and our hotel was within walking distance of Cheesecake Factory. It was worth it to me. I'm glad you had a good time on your trip. Just jump back on low carb and you'll lose the extra pounds pretty quickly.

Thanks, all my LC friends! I'm down 1.5 pounds already, back on the wagon for two days. The other few pounds are going to fly off, I know it. I decided to just go with my usual meat & salad meals rather than doing anything drastic.

Nice! Was it Leonard's malasadas? I was there last year and loved those!! Coco puffs are delicious too, did you try those? And shave ice! Love! can't wait to go back! Great job only gaining 4!

Ahhed. Hawaiian host! Those caramacs!! Killed me. I found them, and those delicious Maui Onion chips at our local Costplus World market.

I agree! Only 4 lbs in 2 weeks of vacation? That's wondrous!

This time I tried Champion malasadas, since I was staying right in Makiki. They were different from Leonard's but still delicious! Kinda like Krispy Kremes vs. Dunkin Donuts, i.e., potayto potahto

Also! As of this morning, I think I'm back down to my pre-vacation weight. So it was just water weight that I gained.

Next stop: the 180's!!

Exactly!

I've done enough vacations on this woe now to know a 4 to 5 pound gain is mostly bloat, and can be rolled back pretty quickly if one just gets right back on plan, and yeah, this is a good time to drink extra water.

leeloo, I think you did great on vacation---maybe because you did it like I do. Some treats, but not going hog wild, and jumping back on plan the day you get home.

That works! Allows you some vacation treats you WON'T be punished for IF you just get right back on plan.

IMO, everyone should have a treat on vacation. Best thing going is finding out how to do that in a way that doesn't derail you. It's not that vacation treats are wrong, it's all about how we behave when we come home.

Thanks for the inspiration! I'm flying home tomorrow and need to get back in the groove, too. For me, sometimes the day or two after vacation can be pretty dangerous.
