A "It'll never happen but" question on mayo/bleu cheese

If someone were to market refrigerated mayonaisse or bleu cheese dressing
with a healthy, quality oil...what do you think it would cost and
how long a shelf life would it have?

I know, make your own. But....

But what if they did?!! Sir Kensington's does just that. Here's what's in it;
Sunflower oil; egg yolks; water; lemon juice; white vinegar; salt; raw sugar; ground mustard seed; black pepper. And all non GMO, and cage free eggs.

It cost about $5 for a 10oz jar. It's shelve stable until you open it then refrigerate. It's good for quite a while. This is what I found because I was going to have to start making my own to get away from the darn soy bean oil in everything!

Someone may say sunflower oil isn't good either, but, I'll take that over soy beans and making my own. Oh, and I found it at whole foods. They also make ketchup, mustard and a killer chipotle mayo.

I think renee's is like that too.

Here are the ingredients for the blue cheese dressing:
Canola oil, fresh buttermilk (milk ingredients, bacterial culture), water, vinegar, blue cheese (milk), salt, frozen yolk (egg), cultured skim milk and skim milk powder, seasonings, whey powder (milk), xanthan gum, onion powder, natural flavor, garlic powder, spices

Question please from a self-admitted Newbie. I eat a big salad every night with Ken's Lite Blue Cheese dressing. I then add Costco blue cheese into the mix. Is this unhealthy?

I eat store-bought and restaurant dressings but I
Wouldn't call them healthy.

Would love to find a decent store mayo...my wife

I'd steer clear of anything labeled "lite". They usually add more sugar to off set the lower fat. Full fat blue cheese dressing is fairly low carb though.

You can make your own blue cheese dressing easily.
Just mix olive oil and vinegar, wisk or beat with fork and crubble blue cheese into it and mash some of it into the mix so it blends into the oil/v but still has some blue cheese lumps.
Just don't use balsamic vinegar because it has sugar in it.

In 1T:
90cals; 10g fat; 95mg sodium; less than 1g carbs (the label says 1, but 10g fat = 90 cals, so it's less than 1g carbs with the leftover calories)

Wilderness Family Naturals has a soy free mayo but they are pretty pricey. Hain makes ones with safflower oil.

I found one here made with rapeseed oil. Isn't that a little healthier than most other vegetable oils? I won't touch anything made with soy or sunflower oils.

Dukes mayo. just did an advertisement on TV. It's new to my area as of last year. I made a mistake and grabbed their lite version, not being familiar with the label . That was before low carb so I tried it and it was horrible, had to throw it away. I'm sure it had sugar, being low fat. Does anybody know about the regular Dukes Mayo?

I think the rapeseed oil is what they have renamed as canola oil for marketing purposes....If I remember correctly.

It's 21% omega-6 and 11% omega-3. Soybean is 54% omega-6 and Sunflower is 71%

I think you might be right. When I look up canola it has the same ratio.

There is a thread discussing the fact that some Italian olive oil is not 100% olive. Some have said that canola was mixed with it. Canola is new in the US. I don't remember ever seeing it here 20 years ago.

I just read that canola contains erucic acid which I know is added to cattle feed for fast weight gain. It says that it is toxic to humans and I know that horses can never have it will kill them. There is a comment claiming it is linked to scleroderma in humans

I eat Bob's Big Boy Bleu Cheese dressing on practically everything. I buy the giant jar from Costco for fear of running out. I don't even bother to read the ingredients. For all I know it has crack in it, it's so addicting.

Yes, canola is a Canadian marketing for a rapeseed oil developed at the University of Manitoba, Canada. (thus the "can" in "canola" comes from "Canada").

I cannot even believe what I've been reading when I looked up info. about canola oil after reading this thread. Almost every one of my salad dressings have it.

I am a Duke's guy. No sugar, but yes it is made with soybean oil. I just looked at their website and they do offer a Duke's Light with Olive Oil. However, looking at the ingredients it has olive oil, canola and soybean oil too, sugar and starches. 1/2 the calories and one carb per serving verses 0 for the regular. Who knows? Think I will stick with the regular and just control portions.

My While Foods carries Sir Kensington's, if you have one near by. After all the label reading, for me it's the best option, next to making my own. I steer clear of canola and soybean oil. The mayo's that claim olive oil, still have the rest of those nasty oils in it. They just added olive oil. But, gee, doesn't that 'sound' healthier?

Snow I agree. I was excited to see "made with olive oil", until I read the labels and the olive oil was the smallest amount of the oils used.
I've really started to enjoy my own made with a combination of grapeseed oil and either macadamia oil or avocado oil(I use avocado oil if I want a really light, neutral flavor).

That sounds good Dottie! Gives me an idea too. I have some MTC oil in the cupboard. I am resisting making my own. Just one more thing to do, if you know what I mean. Maybe I should just bite the bullet and try it. Should be easy in the blend tec.

Grn, I can't imagine why it would last quite a while. If I do make it it'll be a small amount like the jar, 10oz. I don't go through it super fast.

I sometimes buy Hains, I like the taste. Sometimes Spectrum (canola based). I don't do much Mayo, so I don't worry too much about safflower v. canola.

Snow angel, let us know how you do with MCT oil. I'd like to try that, too.
