A little nutty

So...I'm four days back on track. Two out of the four days I have gotten in my car to go and buy ice cream because I felt like I was going to have a nervous breakdown if I didn't get some sugar. And twice, I have instead driven to Sonic and gotten a coke zero. Does anyone else feel like they are going to literally go crazy? Like claw my skin off crazy? I hate this feeling but am determined to stick to the plan. Every day usually gets easier. I hope that I remember this feeling when I'm doing good, feeling good, and think that I can have just one treat! It's not worth it in the end.

Some people compare dropping sugar to quitting heroine, but heroine isn't everywhere like sugar. I've heard the supplement L-glutamine can help with sugar cravings. Also, try eating something sour like a pickle.

Meanwhile, pat yourself on the back. While this is VERY HARD, it's one of the very best things you could possibly do for your health.

Another idea for a sugar craving buster:

can of tuna with mayo

I found that after eating a can of tuna - I wasn't inclined to eat anything else right away - maybe it was the tuna breath!

.Been here done this!!! All that helps me is getting deeper into ketosis and white-knuckling through the cravings. No advice, just a lot of empathy

I am largely past that now, thank goodness, but that's how it felt.

I wish insurance would pay for inpatient rehab for food addicts like they do drugs and alcohol because it's every bit as hard!!

I just wrote this a few days ago.

I had the car keys in my hand to go buy my absolute fav. ice cream at 9:30 at night! I thought I MUST BE NUTS!!!!!!

believe me it is hard. I let some stuff creep back in and TO CUT it out again is agony. Not so much physical, NOW it is a true mental fight for me.

I want certain things back. And darn it I am mad I can't

I got my sugar free fudge pops. poor sub from my fav. ice cream I am wanting lol

today was good for me. very low carb. but right now I am thinking all kinds of bad things but I won't do anything. chugging tons of water just to bloat up and feel fuller.

I tell ya it is hard and that is a fact jack !!!

Your post reminded me of when I quit smoking---dang, that was HARD! I screamed into my pillow many times and talked myself down, looking in the mirror, locked in the bathroom. But I made it. And eventually the cravings went away and I was CLEAN. Just don't give in! Tough it out! Sugar is addicting, so there WILL be withdrawal...but you can do this! I know you can.

Well good for you for NOT giving in!! But, now you also know how addicted you are/were. As were most, if not all of us. I some times think it would be easier to be an alcoholic, I can completely stay away from booze. Not so much with food.

Maybe even better would be tuna with sour cream? Odd combination but it might be interesting.

EDIT: You'd have to be careful about which sour cream you bought, however.

Cfine, I have had success at similar moments with eating very high fat-- like 75% fat-- for a few days. It really helps get the carb monkey off your back. Here are some of my go-to foods:

cream cheese
avocado
macadamias
coconut milk smoothies
veggies sauteed in a lot of oil (I like mine Asian style w a big splash of toasted seame oil at the end)
grilled sausages

And if you are inclined to make treats -- these are some of my favorities:
Carolyn's coconut oil chocolate candy
Sugar-free Sheila's peanut butter fudge
cream cheese muffins

I ended up doing this TWO days in a row, but I made it thru. I know that there comes a certain point when I can truly say that I'm ok because I've done it before. I have managed to successfully lose 60 pounds on this WOE and keep it off. I think that I at that point where someone said...I am mad! Mad that I can't eat certain things without losing my mind mostly. I am not one of those people who can set off plan one day and get right back on the next. I have obviously proved that point to myself quite nicely. I will prevail!!

Good for you for not caving. I think it will get easier for you!

If I have a craving ( which I can't recall when), I would drink water. My cravings are that I want more protein.. but that is just me.

Water, breathe, do something totally NOT Related to food for 3 minutes, it will go away.
